The most horrific experience I've ever encountered with a so-called 'professional' and business. Brock Johnston, Owner, Apex of Texas Homes, LP (201 W Bufford, Suite 101 Burleson, TX 76028), was sent a formal communication to terminate our contract by my fiance and I. We were unable to reach a satisfactory agreement, in completing the project due to the following: timeliness of performance, nonperformance by the contractor or subcontractors, lack of communication (mainly by Brock) and the inability to fulfill numerous client requests to keeping us abreast throughout the process—more specifically, weeks with no communication, lack of response to written communications, proceeding to clear the property and determining the house’s placement on the property without notice. We were previously advised by Brock, during our redline meeting, that our next step was to speak with Wayne (construction on-site manager) and do a site visit to determine the placement of the home. We discussed, on numerous occasions, that we wanted our home approximately 90 to 100 feet away from the street. Brock assured us that we would speak directly with Wayne prior to any movement being done on the property. That did not happen. The process was disorganized and left us having to hunt them down for responses. After our initial meeting, we went in to sign our contract and learned Brock had the wrong property on our contract and was adamant about us selecting a lot we were explicit in saying we didn't want when we gave them our $5,000 in earnest money. He argued us down until I went to my car and got the original documents we had noting the correct lot. He stated, 'the other couple wanted that one anyway..." There were several unprofessional signs we ignored and don't want anyone else to experience. We dealt with Brock's condescending undertone, lack of respect, and overall unprofessional behavior on numerous occasions when communicating with him directly. He is overbearing and became agitated when we didn't want to select more expensive items to upgrade, or take his idea into consideration for our dream home. His entire team, including Jeffrey Davis, conveyed one thing in our meetings, only to do the opposite when it was time to proceed. Brock caused confusion and dissension throughout this project, and it reached a level of frustration that was unjustifiable and was no longer tolerated. Our initial meeitng Jeffrey Davis suggested a larger patio for entertaining at no additional cost (he specifically said those words), when we got in our second meeting with Brock and saw the floor plan, the patio was significantly smaller than we'd discussed with Jeff in our first meeting and he advised Apex would do. When we asked Brock about it, he attached a hefty price tag to it and said, 'oh we can't give you that.' They conveniently waited until my fiance traveled for business to disrespect me and my role in the process with their chauvanistic undertones. It was by far the most disheartening experience ever. As a result of the frequent delays, barring weather and typical ‘construction’ timetable, we incurred additional rental expenses, storage, exhausted valuable leave time from work, travel expenses to and from the Apex offices, and hours of phone calls leading to spinning our wheels to accomplish nothing. Apex never applied for a building permit, and when asked they were always 'waiting on samples.' To make this clear for you, the process of retrieving results from the 'samples' was about a 6-month process. I called on several occasions to get an update, sent numerous emails and the admin would respond with 'let me ask Brock.' She did all she was allowed to do in assisting us, but he was not forthcoming with information, controlling of the process, arrogant, and unprofessional. We never experienced any follow through in this project, as it relates to the level of communication that met our expectations. Furthermore, we lacked confidence in this project being completed in the near future, as we were delayed and informed that our October 31, 2017, closing was not going to happen, per Jeffrey Davis; which led to even further financial hardship and incurred expense. Our conflict affected our ability to remain confident working with Apex or receiving a quality product; hence the reason we withdrew our contract. I'm relieved we did. This experience has left such a distaste for the Apex brand that we wholeheartedly believe families should not invest their time in working with Brock or Apex. We were encouraged, by Jeffrey Davis’ suggestion to our realtor, to withdraw and have all earnest money returned to us. In his exact words, Apex is "more than willing to return their money, in the amount of $5,000, and happily move forward with a family on your waitlist." We have been told on numerous occasions that you all have several people waiting on a lot this size, for the price point, and we are no longer of value to you. As a result of his and Brock's encouragement, we found it appropriate to terminate our contract and relationship. I pray a hard-working family doesn't have to deal with such tackiness when building their dream home and finds a professional builder who takes their vision seriously. Proceed with caution. I highly recommend you go elsewhere and save yourself the heartache and wasted time. Our 10-year-old was heartbroken that we wouldn't be getting our new home we'd selected all the materials for, and before the holidays. I'm grateful for God's protection against working with a company that is riddled with unprofessional, chauvanistic behavior and lacking integrity. Our family is better off in the end, and so will yours. Just say no.

Response from APEX OF TEXAS HOMES
The main issue this customer had with our build job pertained to their roof. We personally upgraded their roof warranty from a 1 year to a 10 year warranty. The roof was inspected by the local city inspector and we sent out a manufacturer inspector to further guarantee the extended warranty. To be clear, the house was fully inspected, overall, every step of the way. In order to receive a Certificate of Occupancy the house had to pass all the inspections.

It was a nightmare. First of all, when they poured the driveway, he didn't put in enough steel. He never came down to check on the house when the inspector would come. In the bathrooms, he didn't install a GIF, which is required anywhere there is water in the home. Just about everything he did has had to be redone. It's the worst workmanship I've ever seen. None of his crew spoke English, and they just did whatever they wanted to. I've had to hire a lawyer because he's just not taking care of it.

I recently contacted [removed member name] because, we are currently working with her on a new build job - she is a repeat customer. She didn't recall giving this rating and stated that she would change it immediately to an "A" rating. [removed member's phone]
