When the crew showed up on Friday, I noticed there was no plywood. I asked a crew member about the plywood and he didn't know anything about it. Then I called Bill again. I couldn't reach him, so I called Ja-Mar and they said he would call me back, but no one ever did. I thought about what the insurance company told me: the worst thing I could do is to have it re-roofed and not take care of the problem underneath. But I believed Bill when he told me his estimate would take care of the problem underneath. He came by a couple of days later and I gave him the rest of the money. The roof looked good and I was happy with the job at the time. But then about a month later, I happened to look at the roof and I gasped. It was wavy and uneven, just like before. I have since learned that it takes awhile for structural defects to show up when you install a new roof, that new roofing pieces are stiff but that gravity eventually takes over. I called Bill again and a few days later, I was in New York visiting my son when I received an email that said that he pounded on my door and no one had answered and that Pat, your construction supervisor, had come out to the house and said that the problem was with the joists underneath. And I thought "I told them there was a problem underneath. Why didn't they figure that out before?" When I returned to Austin, I decided to try to talk to somebody else besides Bill--he obviously had not really listened to me before. No one from your company would call me back. It took another six months to get David, the owner to agree and come look at my roof. He listened to me and sent a man out to try and fix the roof, who worked on it for about six hours. He told me the roof was not installed correctly. It looks better, but JaMar definitely have not fixed the entire problem. I believed Allstate when they told me that any roofing company would be able to see the problem right away and I believed Bill when he told me the new roof would fix the problem. A good roof should last for years and years. I have a warranty supposedly, for two years, but what is that worth? I don't think this roof is going to last. I believe the roof on the front of my house should be replaced and the problems underneath should be fixed. I believed Bill when he told me a new roof would take care of the roof problems underneath, but now I know he was lying.
Description of Work: I first realized I had a roof problem when after trying to lower my insurance rate, Allstate Ins. told me I would have to revert back to my classic Allstate policy because my roof didn't pass inspection. They told me there was a problem underneath the roof. I didn't understand the technical language, but they said to tell the roofing company that there was a problem underneath and that any roofer would be able to see what was wrong by looking at it. The back house roof had been redone by Ja-Mar about five years previously and my husband was happy with the result. At that time, we told Ja-Mar that the previous owner had let the plywood get warped before having the money to complete the roofing job and Ja-Mar agreed. They said our assessment was correct; they had needed to replace about 10 sheets of warped plywood. So when Bill from JaMar came out and estimated the costs, I told him what the insurance said--that there was a problem with the roof underneath and it was wavy, and Allstate had cancelled my cheaper insurance policy. I tried to find the letter to show him, but right then I couldn't find it. I didn't try to hide the problems underneath--I was distressed I couldn't find the letter from Allstate. Allstate told me to make sure you tell them about the problem underneath--Allstate said any roofer would immediately see the problem underneath by looking at the roof. The worst thing, they told me, would be to just re-roof it without fixing the problem underneath. Bill measured it and he returned a few days later with the estimate of 9600--this was to replace the front part of the house and the garage and a pump house--the back part of the house was still OK. I specifically asked him about the problem underneath and whether the estimate would take care of the repairs and he said yes. I had also told him before about the back roof that had needed new plywood. I asked him if the estimate included new plywood and he said the plywood would be an extra $40 a sheet, depending on how many sheets they used. He said the crew would be out on Thursday. Nobody came out on Thursday, so I called him and he said, "I can't micro-manage the crew." He called me back a few hours later and said they would be out on Friday.
