The owner of the company has sold the firm to a Houston firm. Their lead service tech quit. I have used this firm for 15 yrs with excellent results. However, after the ownership change the way they do business has also changed. The new service tech showed up 1 1/2 after the 2 hour window I was told he would show up. He say it would be a flat rate of around $500 to fix the problem. He worked on it for about 30 min and fixed the problem. I was still charged the full flat rate.

About a year ago I had a 4 ton American Standard HVAC, duel heat (heat pump with back up coils), Cost was around 9,000.00 dollars. The problems started right from the start, first I was told that they could make my old Tstat work which was a NEST that I really liked, kept track of run times, monitor and adjust from my phone anywhere in the world or as long as I have a internet connection that is. Well they could not get it to work so I had to go buy another Tstat for the system that would work at a tune of 275.00 dollars, and was told that I had to buy their Tstat for 200.00 to keep the warranty on the system which was a lie but did not find out until later from American Standard Corp. but bought even though it was never going to be used and is still in the box to this day. Well after they got the system installed and working they left a mess, door frame on the AC closet was left about to fall out, wood frame was cracked, look like it was removed with a sledge hammer. Well the owner came out and tried to fix it with some nails and some caulking, still looks bad to this day. The system was also pulling in air threw the AC closet door bypassing the air filters to the point it would actually pull the door closed, so he also put caulking to help stop that. I was told that with this system I got a 10 year warranty and 1 year labor on any problems and that after 6 months they would need to come back out and check the system out and make sure it was running correctly. Here we go with more problems, it gets really bad... Well after around 8 months they wanted to come back and clean and check out the system for proper function, up to this point it had been working fine. I had a date setup for them to come May 13th, I was told on the day of the check that they would not be coming because of the rain we had the day before and they did not want to open the system up to the moisture and they would have to reschedule it (even though they were installing other systems at that time they could not check mine), so they setup another date of June 4th. Their tech guy showed up and asked where the system was installed I told him in the AC closet in the hallway, so he says he needs to get a ladder. I asked him why he needed in my attic and he said to check out the air handler, again I told him it was in the closet, all he had to do was open the door. Right from the start I had a bad feeling about this guy, if he could not even listen to where the unit was how is he going to clean and check it out. Well he looked at the air handler for a couple min, looked at it and said it did not need cleaning and proceeded outside to the compressor unit. He checked it out and said that the coils needed cleaning which they did not because I keep the sprayed out the exact same way he did it about every 2-3 weeks. At this point I had to leave and he was still at the house checking the Freon levels or something, not really sure what he was doing. Well when I got back home he left a statement saying what he did and that there was no charge and noticed that the house was warmer than normal but the AC was running. Figuring it was off for a while it would take a bit of time to get it cooled back down, hours later it still had not cooled the house down any, so I called them and told them they needed to send somebody out that knew what they were doing, at this point I was not very happy with them at all especially when my system had been working fine before he got here and now it was not. So another tech showed up and secretly recorded our conversation and he went to town on me right from the start complaining about how he knocked on the door and that I made him wait outside longer than I should have that I knew he was there with all the cameras I had that I knew he was there and he could be at home. I told him I was half asleep on the recliner and that I do not spend all day watching cameras. I asked him did he want to checkout the system or stand there complaining, he popped off with something else and said that I have a list of complaints against me and that nobody wants to come fix my system, but I asked him again if he wanted to checkout my system to see why it was not cooling properly, he said no that he was going home. So I called the main office and told them that he left, he did not even check one thing and that I needed my AC fixed and if I had to I would call another company to check it out and I would bill them for the service. I was told that I was free to do whatever I liked that they would not pay for anther company to check it out. I told them if that is what I had to do to get it fixed I would just have file suit against them for the bill. So they agreed to come back the next day along with the manager/new owner. So the next day they showed up, adjusted the freon levels a bit and told me that I did not have enough return air vents, that the system was running at a 2 ton rating instead of a 4 ton that I needed 1600 cfm and I only had 800 cfm, and now I also needed new ac ducts in the attic at a cost of around 1,600.00. I asked them why was this not fixed when I paid them almost 9,000.00 dollars to install the system and if I needed new ducts why was this not suggested at the time of installation? I was told that he was not the owner of the company that he did not know what was suggested at the time of installation. I was also told that the Tstat I had was not the one the air handler needed, I need a variable speed Tstat and they had one that was internet ready and would let me have it at cost 400.00 dollars, I said fine I just wanted my system fixed. A bit later the tech showed up and did some more checks and installed the new Tstat and left and was told that I would get billed for the new Tstat, I said fine. The next day the house was a bit cooler but was still not cooling as good as it was, so I added the extra return air intake vent late that night so it would be cooler outside and not be so hard to cool the house back down, the next day I noticed no difference in the system, and that they blower motor was not shutting down after it reached the set point. The next day they called asking for a credit card to pay for the Tstat that was installed and I told them that it was not working properly and that I was not paying for anything until it was working properly because it may be defective, she agreed but they could not come back for 2 weeks. I asked them how much was this going to cost me letting this blower run non-stop for 2 weeks or more, I was told not that much. After a couple weeks the tech showed back up, I showed him what it was doing and he played with it for about 30 min's, rechecked the freon levels and again adjusted it, it was running at a sub-cool of 12 when it should be at around 8, he had to again add more freon to the system and he left, the blower motor still was not shutting down, so I called the office again and told them. I was told that they could not come back until July 28th so I said fine. Well the day they were to show up I was called and told that they could not make it because they were working on a church with 30 AC units and that every time he got one fixed another one would go down and that they would be there the next morning around 9-9:30, they did not show up nor call. The next day I got a bit worried about how the system was running 24/7, puling cool air from the house and pushing it threw the ducts in the attic that is around 130-150+ deg and then back into the house. Although they are insulated they still increase the air temp and causing the compressor to run more so I checked the power consumption for the month. After I read the meter it showed I had used over 7147 Kwatts of power and I still had 6 more days before the bill would generate, so I called them and told them I wanted the Jerry the original owner that was still there to come fix my system. I have not heard from them since. After waiting for a week I had to hire another company to fix my system and fix the Tstat, they installed it improperly by placing one wire on Y2 instead of Y1, which had it set for a duel cool system instead of a single, causing it to run 24/7. It cost me 85.00 dollars to have another company to fix their work. So I am looking at a 800.00 dollar electric bill and 85.00 dollars for another company to fix their work. Do not ever call this company for any work, you will be as sorry as I am. I was also told that they took me for at least 2,500.00 dollars are more, that they same Trane/American Standard system should have been around 6,500.00 with all new ducts and with proper return air vents and could have had a 5 ton instead of a 4 ton and had it with a higher energy rating.

Description of Work: I had a 16 year-old 2.5 ton a/c with a leaking inner coil that I wanted to replace. They installed a 2.5 ton 16.0 SEER, 410A system according to a detailed installation plan which they provided with their bid. I am very pleased with the equipment (American Standard)and with their installation.

I started having problems with my outside unit makig a loud noise when the heater was running. I was still getting heat, but with a whole lot of noise and the motor seemed to be straining to keep up (this was during the big cold snap in January). My outside unit (a Rheem) was 19 years old, and the inside unit possibly older. I had done about $500 in repairs the summer before, and after I bought the house 11 years ago I had to replace the compressor and throughout the years have other minor maintenance and repairs. Anyway, I called a company I have used before to take a look at it. They said it was a txv? valve and that it would cost between $600 and $900 to repair. They also said I should not run my air conditioner until the problem was fixed (this made me nervous because no one wants to be without a/c in Texas, even in the "winter"). They recommended I consider replacing the unit. That sounded reasonable as I did not want to keep pouring money into an old system, plus a newer one would undoubtedly be more energy efficient and save money on the electric bill. I arranged to get some bids (I ended up with five). The salesman from the company that diagnosed the problem told me I had to do a lot of things (like replacing the corrugated metal pipe over my stove to bring it up to code), that ended up not being required. Bids ranged from about $5300 (without new ductwork) to $14,000 (with new ductwork). Except for the first company, I felt like the other companies were being honest in giving me a bid and advice on whether or not to replace the existing ductwork; they seemed professional and answered all my questions. I had done some research and knew about what SEER I could afford and learned a little about the different major manufacturers. I also considered warranty. I prepared a chart of the pros and cons of each proposed system, price, company personnel, etc. and asked a ton of questions. I took about a month to make my decision. I had a good feeling about the person from Mullinex, Jerry Brewer, because he seemed very knowledgeable, honest, and he was very patient in answering all the questions. (The office person I spoke with, Amy, was also very friendly and professional.) When a couple of people I trust (who were not bidding for the job) told me their first choice of equipment was American Standard, which is what Mullinex sells, that helped me make my final decision to go with Mullinex. The installers showed up on time, were professional, cleaned up after themselves, and showed me how to work the new digital thermostat. They even installed the carbon monoxide/smoke detectors I had purchased for me at no extra charge. Mr. Brewer was on site at various times to oversee things, or bring parts, etc. The job took two partial days to complete and I was very comfortable having the installers in my home. The system is working great (don't have my first full-month electric bill yet, so savings yet to be determined). The inspection by the City of Bryan went great and the inspector commented that the company had done a good job. And while this was an unplanned major purchase, I at least don't have to worry about my a/c breaking down in the heat of the summer. I would definitely recommend Mullinex.

We called on a Saturday afternoon. Our a/c had quit cooling and left a message. The technician called, but we decided we didn't want to pay the weekend rate. On Sunday, the tech called again and as we were talking he pulled the file from the instillation of the unit and found that we had purchased an extended warranty when we had purchase the HVAC unit 3 years ago. We had forgotten. He came out a couple of hours later, checked the unit, added freon, made sure that would keep us cool and then scheduled to have someone come out during the next week to check the unit again to see what may have caused the freon to escape. This company does awesome work. The servicemen are polite and work quickly and efficiently. If I ever have to have another HVAC unit put in, I know who I am calling.

The technician arrived as scheduled, was pleasant and professional, performed the service requested and left within about 30-40 minutes. During the spring a/c service in 2010 (by a new-to-me technician), a refrigerant leak was found to have occurred. Repair involved replacing the evaporator coil (about $1500)....then, about a month later the primary technician made a follow-up visit -- routine for Mullinix after a major repair. He (the primary tech) found another leak which was repaired at no charge. All other semiannual service calls have been essentially repair free.

My wife is who dealt with the technician and praised him for his professionalism and courtesy. He talked to her like a person and not a turnip. When we replace the unit in February we will have them bid the project along with one or two other companies. Their men seem to know their business and do justice to their reputation in the community.
Description of Work: Mullinex came out and inspected and added freon to my HVAC system. We also suspected a leak in the ducting, but it turned out not to be.It is in the attic and the house. The unit has a freon leak and is nearing the end of its user life.

Gentleman came out and checked my AC. Said it was the thermostat inside. He offered to put in a new thermostat. I declined, and he repaired the thermostat I had inside already. He said it was not guaranteed. He made it clear that the thermostat was the problem, and would most likely be the problem for any future malfunctions. He was very honest with me.
