I had been wanting to remodel my kitchen for over two decades and have finally been able to complete my dream thanks to Green Igloo. When I first met with Stephen Sweet, owner, he arrived on time and I immediately felt comfortable with him. He heard what I wanted and presented an estimate a few days later. Work included complete re-do of kitchen and extension of floor tiles through-out the entry hall and a long hall way. Also re-painting those areas as well. Went with IKEA cabinets and I was able to use their on-line planner to figure out the exact pieces that I wanted. We started in mid-July and even though the sub who was going to do most of the work became very ill on the day we were to start (and could not continue) Stephen arrived and was able to get others to get the demo started that same day. After dry wall the tiling was going to happen but tied to not having the original guys available - an alternate tile installer started off and there were some problems with how the work was done which turned out to be the worst of things and had to be taken up. However, Stephen made things right. Arranged to have it all taken out and a new installer was selected who did a very good job. Stephen responded quickly to calls and texts and because of his calm demeanor and follow through, I never doubted that everything would be fine. After that things moved along well. The project took about 3 months - which seemed reasonable. The end result is really even more then I had imagined and I am very thankful to have had Stephen do the work. I have a phase 2 and 3 spinning around in my head now (bathroom and living room) that I'll be talking to him about. Thank you Stephen!!
Description of Work: Complete remodel of kitchen including gutting and re-configuration of the space, removal of popcorn ceiling, new windows etc. Also, tile and paint to front entry and long hallways.

A delayed project with lots of problem - over-all, a very slow project.. Glad it was, finally, finished!
Description of Work: Many problems, but. Steve did try to make it right and finally, finished it himself. So thankful for that. Missed many appointments to complete the job, and his contractors were not reliable. Wait time was long for finishing the job, and Steve had to come to finally fix the mistakes. It started 11/1/2013 and was finally completed around the middle of December, 2013.

He was a little hard to get a hold of, but when you had his attention, it was undivided. He explained everything very well and knew what he was talking about. He was able to make suggestions on what would work best and what would look best. His worker showed up exactly on time and did the work quickly. They were both very polite. They cleaned up after themselves. I am very happy with the new windows.

It was a very good experience. Got an estimate same day Stephen came over to talk about his products. Was able to start within 2 weeks, whereas another company had told me it would be 6 weeks. His crew came on time, Stephen was there to introduce everyone and they started. Took them all day but they were constantly working. Clean up started about dusk so that wasn't as good as I had hoped but Stephen came over the next day and made everything just right. Good follow through. Windows fit great and look good. If I ever need more windows I will definitely use this company.

The company was very understanding and demonstrated patience through the insurance process (3 months) prior to awarding the work. The work has been performed as committed and in accordance with schedule. The quality of work is high and the staff and workers are professional. Additionally, Green Igloo has paid specific attention to detail of the older home and performed work above and beyond the estimated scope of work. They identified other conditions outside of their scope of work and provided professional subcontractors to evaluate, provide recommendations, which we gladly secured them to conduct the repairs - roofing and mechanical systems HVAC.
Description of Work: Conducted repairs caused by a hot water line leak that included - removal of kitchen and bathroom cabinets, demo of wood floor, sub floor entire house, replaced and repaired floor joist, seal plates and leveled floor system. Replaced all plumbing lines with new copper lines. Reinstalled new sub floor and wood floor. Conducted sheet rock repairs and finish work, installed trim preparation and painting. Reinstalled all kitchen and bathroom cabinets.

[removed members name] have been wonderful to work with and if I could clone them i would. There situation is not unfamiliar to many owners of older homes...especially those that happen to be income property. Green Igloo (GI) will never cover up a condition that needs addressing. Rather, we will bring it to the customers attention at which point the customer may address with contractor of their choosing.

As the attached photos show, the result was dramatically successful. It's as if we now have a completely new home.
Description of Work: Stephen Sweet of Green Igloo served as contractor for our kitchen remodel. He provided an estimate, stuck to it, scheduled workers, advised us on materials, inspected completed work, and made sure that everything was completed to our satisfaction. He conducted himself in a genial, helpful, and professional manner throughout the remodel, which took about two months. Perhaps the best indicator of Stephen's character and honesty was that when the substitute electrician ended up charging $1000 more than the estimated cost, Stephen took this overrun out of his own contractor fee. Stephen prides himself on his Christianity, and he walks the walk. Truly impressive.

Stephen worked with me on updating various aspects of my almost 100 year old house, from electrical work to painting. He is a great contractor to work with - flexible, engaged, and very family friendly. His work is very good, and anytime I wasn't completely satisfied he happily worked on the project until I was. I am planning more projects for the future and will definitely use Green Igloo again.

I didn't use this provider because he took so long getting the bid to me.
Description of Work: The provider came out to give me an estimate of window replacement for my whole house. He came by on time and was very polite and perfectly professional, but it took about three weeks for him to get an estimate to me. By that time I had already chosen another contractor and thought they had forgotten about my bid. Everybody else had provided a bid within a few days of coming out to my home.

Green Igloo did a wonderful job. They are very professional and paid close attention to my wishes and needs. Their design was outstanding re. the porch and the color and style they chose for the windows was excellent. GI even came up with a brilliant floor idea in the patio that consisted of something I have never heard of but am now a huge fan....dry placed brick in a herringbone pattern (see photo). Bottom line is that if you need ideas and outstanding workmanship....Green Igloo is a no brainer.

This is the second project that we hired Stephen for. However, in many respects it was more complicated than the total-gut kitchen renovation/remodel that he finished in our home last Spring. My husband and I had known for years that we had a large amount of inaccessible storage space underneath our stairway. We agreed that we wanted to find a way to tap into that space and had previously talked to a different contractor about the project, but were uninspired by his ideas and couldn't agree on how to proceed. We let momentum on the project lapse hoping to pick it up another time. During our kitchen renovation, we mentioned to Stephen that we wanted to find a way to access the space. He was intrigued by the project and gave us some preliminary ideas. A few months later, I handed him a picture of a swing-out bookcase, told him that I wanted the bookcase to serve as a hidden doorway for the space, and asked him if he could replicate the idea. He assured me that he would find a way to make it work and quoted us a reasonable and fair price for the project. Stephen literally spent weeks thinking about how he and his crew could design and install a custom bookcase that functioned not just as a bookcase, but also as a wide, hidden door. He consulted with his carpenter, Robert, and submitted a proposed plan. He later amended the plan to include trim that complimented our fireplace and would create an even more customized and cohesive look. We were more than impressed with Stephen's creativity and willingness to dedicate his time and attention to creating the look we wanted without compromising quality or workmanship. During the project, Stephen and Robert ran into a number of unforeseen complications, not the least of which was re-assessing how to mount the large, custom-made bookshelf onto a swing-out mechanism. This part of the project was tedious and required on-site engineering and re-assessment in order to get the mount correct and secure. Once the mount was figured out, Robert ran into additional problems due to the existing walls being uneven. This caused him to spend several hours pounding on the walls to get them prepared for the correct placement of the bookcase trim. Throughout the project, Robert remained dedicated to ensuring that his work was top-quality and that we were pleased with his efforts. The final touches were outfitting the inside space with an electrical switch and the painter, Solomon, finishing out the trim and painting the entire bookshelf a glossy white. The end result is an absolutely gorgeous, custom-fitted bookshelf that not only looks like it has always been in our house, but that opens easily and is wide enough for my husband to shuffle large boxes and bins in and out of the space. Stephen, Robert and Solomon created a high end product that is unique in both form and function. We are just as pleased with this project as we were with our previous kitchen renovation. Stephen will be our go-to general contractor for years to come. As far as we are concerned, he is the only general contractor that we would ever trust to turn our home-improvement ideas into reality.
Description of Work: Stephen and his crew fabricated a custom swing-out bookshelf/door to convert inaccessible space under our stairway into useable storage space.

We had some mishaps with what we scheduled (to get an estimate for new windows throughout the house), and then we also had a mishap with getting the quote to me after the visit. On the basis of that, I had originally given a fairly low grade. The quote I eventually received was quite a bit higher than others, so I went with another company. However, I did not have the greatest experience with the other company - I won't go into it here because this is a review about Green Igloo, not the other company. My gut feeling is that you might pay a bit more using this company, but it probably would save you some hassles compared to less expensive companies with contract installers. I definitely did not find him to be pushy or anything unpleasant, so I wanted to revise my earlier review to reflect the resolution that occurred after my initial review.
Description of Work: Just following up to tie some loose ends - I have increased the grade I gave this company as I did receive a quote after our miscommunications were resolved.

The job went great and I am completely happy with the appearance of the windows both inside and out. Not only did Green Igloo do a fantastic job on the windows, they went above and beyond and fixed rust spots all over our galvanized metal roof to eliminate existing rust and prevent it from happening again. (Stephen also explained to me how it can be that galvanized metal can rust in places). I'm very happy with that job as well. In the nearly 20 years since we built this house we have had all kinds of work done on it and in it. Green Igloo is outstanding and I am so glad I found this company through a profile in The Eagle. Stephen is so pleasant to work with and his crew members are also very good and very polite. Let me just say that because of weather there were delays on the job but Stephen was up front with us all the way and we completely understood when they would be here. We were actually happy to have the rain so no complaints about delays on the job! Stephen was also really easy to communicate with via text and email and responded very quickly anytime I contacted him. I will call them again for future jobs and would completely recommend them to friends and family.
Description of Work: We had large custom Pella windows on the front and back of our house, installed as high as a 3rd story would be. These were top of the line Pella from 20 years ago and they had rotted in the lower corners and allowed water to seep through and leak onto our back porch and into the wall on the front. Stephen recommended Milgard vinyl windows to us and thoroughly explained why they were better and what he would do to remove the old windows and install the new ones. He was very able to talk to my husband in technical terms and also to talk to me and explain things.

Our kitchen was the epitome of dysfunctional and outdated. On the sixth anniversary of being in our home, I told my husband that we either renovate the kitchen or move because I could no longer function in that space and retain my sanity. We opted to renovate and prepared ourselves for what we thought would be a lengthy and frustrating process, but which ultimately turned out to be neither. My husband and I spent several months consulting with two different kitchen designers to improve flow, storage, and sanity to the kitchen layout. Once we had the cabinet layout completed and the cabinets purchased, we started pricing subcontractors for plumbing, electrical, granite, tile, and demo. Although our total budget was in the mid-$30,000 range, we were suffering from a bad case of sticker shock when a friend recommended Stephen (Green Igloo). During our first meeting with Stephen, he listened carefully to our concerns and talked realistically with us about our vision for the kitchen's final look and feel. He also told us point blank that he could save us thousands through his subcontractors and offered to work with us as a consulting contractor, as opposed to a full-time on-site contractor, to also save us money. After meeting with Stephen, we requested a bid for both the kitchen renovation and for removal and replacement of tile in our downstairs bathroom, hallway, and laundry room. He quickly returned quotes for each piece of the project that were not only below other bidders, but that were, in two cases, 50-60% lower than other subcontractors and fabricators. Additionally, his time frame of eight weeks from demo to completion for the kitchen and the additional tile work was far shorter than what we had anticipated. The night that we signed our contract with Stephen, we expressed to him how concerned we were that we would not have a washer and dryer for the duration of the renovation. We explained to him that our daughter was potty training and that we had to do laundry almost every evening. Stephen was very sympathetic. He immediately responded that he would tell his demo crew to put the washer and dryer back into the laundry room after they took out the old tile, so that we would still have access to our appliances whenever we needed it. It was then that we knew Stephen was going to take care of us. Shortly before demo, Stephen did a walk through with us and the majority of his subcontractors. He went through the job with each sub and made sure that we understood what was about to happen. Throughout the job, he maintained constant communication with us and promptly responded to any concerns and complaints that we had. He also had his subs coordinate with the crew installing our cabinets (the only subcontractor that we did not get through Stephen) and made sure that we knew when different aspects of the job were going to occur. Stephen is a consummate professional and man of his word. We had no cost overruns and when there were a couple of pretty significant problems, he personally came and took care of them...even working on a Saturday to finish a punch list that my husband had written up towards the end of the project. With one exception, we did not have any concerns about the subcontractors being in our home while we were away or when Stephen was off-site. If he trusted his subcontractors, then we did too. We were so pleased with how he ran the site, that we referred him to some friends before our project was even complete. The best thing about Stephen is that he always takes responsibility for the good and the bad. When problems arise, he is quick to address them, acknowledge if they were caused by him or one of his subs, and immediately address them. There are no surprises with Stephen. You get what he promises and he is not happy until you are. The renovation process was not perfect...no renovation is. But we can honestly say that our experience with Stephen's company was beyond our expectations. The finished kitchen is not only beautiful, it has extended the amount of time that we will be in this home. After six years, we can function in our kitchen and we are proud to show it off to friends and neighbors. Oh yes, I have retained my sanity and my husband is glad to hear that I no longer want to move.
Description of Work: Stephen's company performed an entire gut and renovation of our 1990's era kitchen, as well as removal and replacement of tile in our downstairs hallway, bathroom and laundry room. His crew completed removal of existing cabinetry, counters and tile; a pantry tear-out; conversion to gas cooking and re-arranging of plumbing; overhaul of overhead lighting; installation of granite countertops and paint. His crew was also responsible for debris removal and daily clean-up of the site to ensure safety for us, our toddler, and our pets.

Our experience with Stephen Sweet was amazing. Stephen was very patient and worked diligently to see that our complete remodel met all of our expectations. Stephen helped design the new kitchen and master suite. We obtained many of our ideas from Pinterest and magazines, and Stephen was able to incorporate them into his designs. We were able to work very closely with Stephen throughout the remodel and when things either didn't look correct or not as we envisioned, he was always willing to do what it took to ensure we were pleased with the finished product. Although a complete remodel is a lengthy project, Stephen maintained his professional demeanor and enthusiasm for the entire 5 months we worked with him.
Description of Work: We had a complete remodel of our 1964 original 2400 sq. ft. home. The services performed included: (1) demolition services; (2) replacement of all windows; (3) enclosing porch; (4) complete remodel of kitchen, master bedroom and bath; (5) new hardwood flooring, tile and carpeting; (6) all new light fixtures throughout house; (7) interior and exterior painting and (8) new electrical panel.

Stephen gave us an estimate for both siding and windows. Windows were installed first, and they are great. This was an older home, but they were able to make all the windows fit perfectly...even one that had some issues from previous shifting of the house. The crew that did the siding was wonderful. Besides being great installers, they were really nice people. The siding changed the look of the house completely. It looks much more modern. They actually had to replace part of the roof because of damage due to a water leak which they found when they started installing the Hardi plank on the soffit & fascia. You can't even tell where the repair begins or ends. Bought a new porch column, and they installed that, too! They put a new cover on our back patio, as well as made some repairs to an interior door. Stephen has a 'can-do' attitude, and I think that trickles over to his installers.
Description of Work: Replaced all windows in house. Tore down old siding, replacing it with Hardi Plank. Replaced the the soffits and fascia on 2nd floor only. Put a hard (clear) cover on the back porch. There were some issues with the framing of the front door. Stephen repaired that, as well.

We obtained several estimates from local companies and decided on Green Igloo due to a competitive bid and a superior warranty. The windows were ordered and we had them installed as told 7-10 days later. The installation crew arrived on time at approx. 9:15 am and the windows were removed and installed in a total of 3 hours. I did a walk around inspection and the only thing missing was a small plastic drain flap at the bottom of one of the windows and Steve is bringing that to me later. The installation crew did a great job and you could not even tell they had been here even though it had rained the day before and they removed there shoes every time they came into the house. So far overall we have been pleased with the windows look and performance and everything we were told has happened.

They did the whole house in a few hours and cleaned up any mess. Stephen was out that evening to inspect the job and show us how the new windows work. The windows look great. All the neighbors are stopping by to admire them. The house is very quiet now. We are hopeful that our heating and cooling bills will go down.
Description of Work: We had all of the windows in our 1970's house replaced.
