Well the repair went well enough but when asked if we would be charged a service charge the service person did not know (and did not find out). A photo cell was installed in January and failed in June. We were not charged for the new photo cell but were charged $95 to replace it. If Van Delden gets a defective part from their supplier, it is between them and their supplier not us. A Van Delden customer should not be charged for their bad part (mistakes). My wife addressed this issue with a customer service person on the phone with no luck. Using Van Delden's website, I sent a message asking them to reconsider this charge, that was two weeks ago and no response. They are very high priced for their routine service $740 for 6 visits (they charge more if an appointment with us is wanted, that is why it is $740. Yes, they charge more if we want to be there). But in their defense, their replacement parts are less expensive than most companies. Anyway, I feel this $95 service charge to fix a defective part they put in is unreasonable. I did not want to have to go to posting this here but we were not getting anywhere any other way. Thank you. Ronald J. Wojnar Follow-up: Thanks for the long response. However, what is in there but not stated is that it is to your advantage to put in defective parts that last longer than 30 days. Because you can then charge your customers $95 for each service call. I understand you put the service charge into your contracts. And I guess that was a very smart thing for you to do from your perspective. And no matter how long you make your response, we have never been charged extra by ANY service contract company we have dealed with to make an appointment. Yes, things happen, but a phone call to the customer is usually all that is needed. Since we have about a year left on our contract with you, that gives us some time to do our research into other companies. Thank you.
Description of Work: Replaced a defective photocell (in theory under warranty) and we bought two replacement spray head (as spares).

Response from VAN DELDEN WASTE WATER SYSTEMS
Daer [removed member name], I am so sorry no one got back with you from your e-mail through our website. We were made aware of a problem with the software last Tuesday (7/8/14). Unfortunately, we were not receiving all of the contact request forms. The issue was resolved immediately when it was discovered, although we don’t know how long ago the problem began. It appears we never received your form due to this software glitch, otherwise, we would have responded promptly. You are always welcome to call our office if you have any questions about service. You are correct about defecitve parts; your defective photocell is between us and the supplier. Therefore, we did not charge for replacement photocell. However, labor is only under warranty for 30 days for warranty parts, which is stated in our service policy. If the photocell had become defective within 30 days, there would not have been a $95 service call charge. Since the technicians do not collect payment at the time of service, they are not always aware if a service call charge applies. This is usually determined by the office when your work order is processed. It appears there may have been a misunderstanding when you asked the tech if a service call charge would apply. It does not appear that he was aware that you wanted him to call the office to find out. Yes, we do charge more for aerobic system service if we need to make an appointment with our customers, which I’d like to shed a little light on. Although it sounds simple, there is much more that goes into making appointments than one might realize. All the systems due that are due for service each month are printed workorders at the beginning of the month and seperated by subdivision. The techs are to do systems in the same are at the same time. The area that each tech goes to each day is determined by their alarm calls. So, for example, if they get an alarm call in Garden Ridge, then they will stay in Garden Ridge and service the remaining systems in that area. But, if we have an appointment with someone in Helotes (for example), then we have to pull them away from their service area to meet for the appointment. Which is exactly what happens when we make appointments. This costs more for the customer because our costs are increased when we meet for appoitnments. The overhead for each appointment includes extra administrative time and costs to call and schedule appointments, extra pay for the techs driving time, which also increases payroll taxes, extra fuel costs, , etc. Only 2% of our aerobic customers require appointmetns. We could raise the contract price for every customer so that the appointment customers are not charged a different/higher fee than anyone else, but that doesn’t seem fair to the other 98% of our customers that do not require appointments. So, we choose to give the customer the option of paying more for an appointment or not. We are happy to make appointments if needed, but in order to remain sustainable, we must charge more to cover the additional cost of the appointment. As always, feel free to call us if you ever have any questions. We truly appreciate your business. -Courtney Van Delden

I called Van Delden to see if they could locate a septic tank on a property I'm about to purchase. I had two other companies out there to see if they could locate the tank. One company came twice so I had a total of 3 attempts. I had to hurry and find the tank for an inspection before time ran out on the amendment contract. I had one day left and they could not send anybody to locate and inspect the tank. What they did though was search the county records and obtain the original permit and lay out of the septic system. They emailed the information to me and I called another company to do the inspection by locating the tank from the plans. They could of just let me be on my way to try another route but instead they were of great assistance and didn't charge me. I plan on using Van Delden in the future for my septic needs.

We have been a customer of Van Delden for several years. Due to unprofessional business practices, we have decided to drop them as a service provider and go with another company. To us, when a company does not understand the meaning of customer satisfaction, it is time to part company.

Although the invoice amount was small, we still need to follow up on all overdue invoices as a necessary business practice. We don't like having to call to collect past due amounts any more than he desired the calls. Our maintenance contract with [member name removed] and our invoices state that amounts are due within 15 days, so we follow up on all invoices that have not been paid within 30 days. We are very respectful when we call, and do not harass. We did call him several times because he was unresponsive to us. [member name removed]e-mailed us "I don't appreciate getting multiple calls to separate phone numbers plus e-mails. All for a 3 dollar invoice! Really?". Therefore, I would like to share the e-mail response I sent to [member name removed]. [member name removed], Thank you for sending payment for your invoice. I apologize that you feel bothered by the multiple phone calls and e-mails. On February 24th, we left messages on both cell numbers without a response. On February 28th, we tried to reach you again. At that time, we reached on your cell, but you said you could not hear us and then hung up. On March 8th, we tried to reach someone again since we still had not received any response. This time, your wife called back and she requested a copy of the invoice, so we emailed it to the address we have on file, which is yours. Although the invoice is only $3.62, it was invoiced in January and does not make it any less valid. As much as you may not like receiving phone calls for it, we wish we didn’t have to spend so much time trying to collect on a $3.62 invoice. It seems silly on our part as well, but as a business, we cannot let overdue invoices go. We follow up on all past due invoices, no matter the amount. We truly appreciate your business and hope you can understand our side as well.

The septic system at the residence had never been cleaned out in over 15yrs. Through the neighborhood association, we read of one of the neighbors having to replace their septic system with a new type "aerobic" system and the cost was astronomical. So, we made an appointment with Van Delden. They located the cleanouts within 10 minutes and spend about 45min cleaning out the tank. Totally professional and they answered all the questions we had concerning septic systems. We'll sure hire this company again and would recommend their services.

Awesome. My wife said they would call prior to the 0830 showtime and that's what they did. Since I had a new concrete driveway poured recently and was concerned with the weight of the pump truck damaging it, I informed the technicians to park on the road shoulder which they said "no problem." When they arrived, Jesse explained all what they were doing and how to fill the tank when they left. They were very courteous, professional, thorough and timely. I highly recommend their services.
Description of Work: Our septic system, Clearstream aerobic system – model “NU”, was due for pumping. We got on their website and emailed a quote for service request. I received an email the next day and was provided the cost for our system. They quoted $475, we set up an appointment for today and that is what we paid for the pumping.

I called them the day before - this is two days before Thanksgiving - to tell them that I'd started to hear my downstairs toilet gurgling while the washer was running, and thought it may be the tank (since it had been a while since we had seen to it). The lady was very helpful, telling me some checks I could do myself, but given the holiday coming up and the family all home, I decided to have the professionals check it. I was expecting to hear they couldn't come out on such short notice, but they did come out the next day. It turned out that the tank was insanely full, very much needing draining, so they took care of that. They also gave my husband some pointers about having the kids be careful of flushing handi-wipes (which they had apparently been doing). The work was done well, there was a minimum of disturbance in the yard around the excavation, they finished quickly, and were very helpful. About a week or so later, they followed up to send me my copy of the report they are required to file when they convey wastewater to the appropriate facility/location. It was all very prompt, painless, helpful, and especially right before the holiday, MUCH appreciated. I would *totally* use these guys again.

We actually got lucky calling Van Delden as we later found out that they had performed the last septic pump a few years ago for the previous homeowner, so they actually still had all the details on file. Initially, we were really pleased with the friendliness and professionalism of the office staff and had all our initial questions answered with charges explained up front. Once nice touch that didn't go unnoticed is that my husband had made mention when scheduling the appointment that I'd just had a baby boy a week or so before - the techs congratulated us as soon as they arrived! The technician and his trainee arrived right on time and were completely delightful. Not knowing much about septic systems, the technician readily answered all of our questions and took the time to explain the layout of our system along with some suggestions as to improve its longevity. They were in and out in around 30 minutes with no problems and with relatively little disturbance to our yard. It was great to deal with a company that takes a lot of pride and happiness in their work. We'll use them again!

Great. All went well until the clean up. Since it was Friday afternoon, one worker was in a hurry to leave at five. Did a poor job of spreading the soil over the yard area --basically left two huge ant hills. When I commented on the unsightliness, the bigger man told me not to worry because it would sink into place. After they left we completed their job. Good thing, it never sank further!

They simply pumped my septic tank after finding it. Finding it took about 15 mins, which needed to be done using a metal detector. After they found the tank, the pumping was quick. There was a rock that got stuck in the line, but they were able to get it out. Will recommend them to others.
Description of Work: They pumped out my septic tank. Ran into a snag where a rock ended up getting stuck in the line and they had to remove it from the hose. They sprayed my septic tank out with water hose while it was being pumped by the truck. They had to dig up some flowers that we had planted over the septic tank, but no big deal. They quickly found the septic tank by using a metal detector. In all, took just under an hour for the work. I would recommend again. There were two guys and they were both friendly.

Thank you for the review. 99% of the time, we can find the tank within the first 5-10 minutes with a probe or metal detector. Although the customer gave us a general idea of where the tank was located, the metal detector did not indicate the location nor did the probe, mostly due to the rock on the property. Since the tank is buried and it had not been pumped out in a long time, if ever, there were no visual indicators of the tank or lid location. A normal pumping should take less than one hour, which includes locating the tank, exposing the lid(s), pumping the tank out and covering the lid(s) back up with soil. We only charge more for locating the tank when we are on site longer than one hour or if we need to use the electronic locator, which is rare. An electronic locator has only been used on .02% of the tanks we have pumped within the past 12 months. We noted the exact location of the tank in the customers file to avoid any extra charges for him in the future.
