Came out 3 times (once on a Sunday) to try and locate exact place of leak. Could determine it was the hot water line in slab but not exact location. Capped the line to give us hot water in part of the house and identified the type of fix needed. Another plumbing company performed the work.

Arrived on time, listened to our concerns & got to work. Very professional, appeared very knowledgeable. It went well and I would call them again (but hope I never need to).
Description of Work: We were worried there was a leak somewhere due to a hotspot in the garage. Our regular plumber said they do not do leak detection and recommended this company.

Leak found. Interesting to watch through the camera as it goes down the pipe.
Description of Work: Water in an electrical floor outlet meant there was a leak somewhere. The nearest wall with any pipes had custom ash paneling on one side and custom kitchen cabinets, granite counter top on the other. Ripping the wall open and just looking around was not an option. American Leak Detection came out twice with cameras, sensors and maybe tiny little men on ropes, but they were able to verify where the leak originated - upstairs master toilet stack.

Robert Douglass did a fantastic job. He immediately grasped the complexity of our system and the large scope the investigation required. He methodically isolated and evaluated individual sections of our 800 foot pipe system as well as each house and building using various techniques and instruments. After many hours of focused effort Robert found the leak buried about 2 feet in the ground in a large sloped area between the two houses. It was a hairline crack in an elbow fitting that supplied water to the uphill house. It wasn't until he hand dug down over a foot that we began to see the water bubbling out of the fitting and deeper was the pipe. We had the fitting repaired the next day and our system is now restored to us. Amazing that in such a large complex system he found the leak. Impressive and exactly what we needed. We were able to avoid very costly and destructive digging up of segments of our pipe line. Robert found exactly were the leak was located - we were able to hand dig right to the leak.
Description of Work: We needed to locate and repair a leak somewhere in our ranch water supply system that caused us to loose our collected rain water supply and was keeping our pumps running non stop. Our water supply system includes 800 feet of buried pipe, two houses, a large shop/barn, a 40,000gal rainwater collection system and tank, and a deep well for hose bibs and back up softened water in a pump house. So we needed an exceptional professional to find a relatively small leak that was growing larger and causing us to loose large amounts of precious rainwater over time.

After recently experiencing a large water bill more than double our typical bill we knew we had a leak somewhere in the plumbing. We did all of the standard DIY checks and realized that this was going to be something we couldn't see for ourselves and needed to have a professional come look at. We tried our home warranty company but after fighting with them for 2 weeks and their contractors claiming they weren't equipped for leak detection we called our own plumber. This plumber came out and rechecked all of the DIY items we had already completed and then claimed that it would cost $800 for them to install a shutoff valve to the house to determine if the leak was in the house or in the yard. After that it would cost even more to identify the exact location and repair the damage. This was when my wife and I called American Leak Detection. The phone call to American Leak Detection was pleasant and the representative was very polite and up front about all the details. We agreed upon a time within 48 hours of the call and everything was scheduled and ready to go. Our technician Bill gave me a call 15 minutes before arrival and was well within the window agreed upon. He was very professional and polite when he arrived and explained everything he was doing. Within 30 minutes he had found the leak, he even dug up the area of the yard with the leak to show us the water and explained what he used to detect and verify the leak. The whole process was smooth, and painless and I will happily turn to American Leak Detection again if I have any issues going forward.
Description of Work: Checked for leak location, verified leak was not present under the slab. Identified and revealed yard leak.

d all haAfter talking to several pool repair people, who all recommended them, we finally called American Leak Detection. The lady who makes the appointments was very polite and easy to talk to. They came out pr omptly, found two leaks, one in the pump, one in the skimmer. They told my husband how to fix the one in the pump and left us an estimate for replacing the skimmer, which we knew was cracked. Today we are having them do the work. The estimate was easily accessed by the lady making the appointment. The man doing the replacement was actually a little early. He had all the equipment necessary to drain the pool below the skimmer line and chip away the concrete. Upon getting down to the skimmer, it was discovered that Pool Werks (see my ongoing saga about that repair fiasco) had chosen to line the skimmer with the old rubble they had removed doing the work instead of using sand and hauling out the debris. The man doing the repair was very professional having done this kind of work at the same company for 34 years, had all his own supplies and equipment, and cleaned up after himself. He gave advice on repainting and sealing the patio as it all had to be redone after barely three years. The skimmer he installed works much better than the last one ever did. We are very pleased and would definitely hire him again.
Description of Work: 1. Inspected pool for leaks 2. Advised how to fix leaking pump 3. Gave estimate for replacing leaking skimmer 4. Hired later to replace skimmer

I called these guys because I had a water leak somewhere in my floor. It was too slow to register as a supply leak (the water meter didn't indicate a leak), and after plugging the sewer line and filling the drain line to the top of the slab, it didn't look like a drain-side leak either. The provider arrived on time, I walked him around the house, showing him where we had been observing the leak. He got out his equipment (essentially a "stethoscope" for your house's plumbing), and began listening for the leak at various places in the house. He then got out his "pinger" to locate where the pipes lay in the foundation. He then again used his "stethoscope" to listen around the area where we were seeing water emerge from the cracks. After a few minutes of listening and probing different places, he drew an "X" and a circle around it indicating where the leak sound was loudest. These guys only do leak detection, so today I had plumbers come out to repair the leak. Sure enough, the leak was right where American Leak Detection said it would be. You may think the price is high for just doing detection. However, knowing where to look minimized a lot of potential damage from "destructive guesswork". I would definitely use these guys again!

Robert and his son Kaleb arrived promptly at my home and checked the meter to confirm the extent of water activity/loss. The water supply to the house was shut off at the water softener, confirming that the leak was somewhere between the meter on the street and the water line at the softener in the garage. All four hose bibbs were checked with the sonar sound equipment for noise level, and the bibb on the right corner of the home produced the loudest sound/water flow activity. Robert used a metal probe to go down into the soil about 1.5' to 2' which showed water on the tip when pulled up, hence an underground leak. They tested the surrounding area and placed a flag at the point of the leak, where the PVC pipe likely meets with the copper line entering the home. This will allow me to hire a laborer to dig up the area to uncover the pipe in the plantings and rocky soil below rather than paying plumber rates for digging. A plumber should be able to make the repair then in less than an hour to resolve the leak. Although leak detection is expensive, I did avoid costly repairs for holes that a plumber wanted to make in my home as part of the trial and error approach to leak detection that most plumbers use. The plumber assumed the water line entered my home on the corner closest to the meter and this was not the case. Robert's suggestion to have a laborer dig up the area will also save me some money. I highly recommend American Leak Detection. It is a family business, they were professional and I got exactly what I needed to resolve the leak and get estimates in advance, minimizing my repair costs.
Description of Work: Used sonar equipment to locate a hidden leak outside my home. They have a flat rate for the first 1.5 hours, and the leak was discovered in about 30 minutes. They were recommended by several reliable sources but I had to wait about two weeks for an appointment. I did ask to talk to the technician in advance so was willing to wait because Robert professionally described the process and the work went as planned. They locate leaks only, so you will still need to hire someone to make the repair.

Bruce showed up on time and found the source of the leak within the 1.5 hour time limit. The leak was more than 3' underground near my back basement where the area had been backfilled by the contractor. I never would have found the leak without his expertise. This is the second time I've had to use them, and both times their work was within the given estimate and professional. I strongly recommend American Leak Detection.

Appointment set up by phone with estimate. Leak check team (2 people) arrived on time (slightly early actually) and began work. Quickly and accurately identified leak. Completed entire pool check anyway. Made some small recommendations on potential improvements, suggestions on options to fix main leak, and described the situation in great detail. Very friendly, helpful, and personable staff. I made the suggested repair and pool no longer leaks. I will call them again if I ever have a pool or other plumbing leak problem.

They were booked up forever and their prices are outrageous. I would never use them. They'd cost you $1200 to come out here and then the first hour, they would charge you for another $125 an hour so it's ridiculous. I thought that the company is direct and I guess they were polite and nice but it was just business-like. When they called back, I said, "We've already gotten it fixed." I told them they were absolutely ridiculous on their price. They did get back with me within a month and I'm glad they called because they were just getting ready to call me and tell me they were coming. They weren't the worst but they weren't the best. I'll never call them again.

Response from AMERICAN LEAK DETECTION - AUSTIN & SAN ANTONIO
American Leak Detection of Austin Texas received their initial request for service from [member name removed] on January 20th, 2014. Based on the age and location of the home, the abundant square footage, the 200+ feet distance from the city infrastructure (water & sewer) and the seven bathrooms in the home, a flat fee of $1250 was quoted to assess the entire plumbing system. Again, due to the size of the job, a schedule date of February 10th, 2014 was set in order to ensure multiple technician availability for the lengthy task of inspecting [member name removed] property. Our $125/hour rate begins only after the completion of the full system audit, if necessary further inspection work is required. American Leak Detection takes pride in providing a valuable and professional service. Per standard procedure, the office called to confirm the appointment for February 10th, at which time [member name removed] cancelled the appointment. No work was performed, no charges were invoiced.

American Leak Detection was able to come out the next morning and thoroughly checked for a leak; turns out no slab leak (great news); only an external faucet not working properly due to the cold weather. They were extremely nice and only charged us a service call rather than a full leak detection charge. We were extremely pleased.

The American Leak Detection very much missed the mark in finding our leak. We were forced to negotiate with the company for our money back/reduction in the invoice.
Description of Work: We as the Balcones Village Garden Homes Home Owners Association had an expensive undetected water leak. The American Leak Detection group was contacted, gave us an estimate and searched the grounds for the leak. American Leak Detection said they found the leak by Unit # 3 and flagged the spot but shortly after a sink hole was found in front of Unit # 1 which is about 75 feet distant from where the American Leak Detection group reported. The water leak was entirely by Unit # 1 and other repaired the leak.

Response from AMERICAN LEAK DETECTION - AUSTIN & SAN ANTONIO
Our technician did testing at this property and located the best indications of a leak in front of units #2 and #3 where the service line may branch off the main line. We were contracted by a management company and marked the leak location, later showing it to our contact person there who hired us. We collected a deposit as proposed and sent an invoice for the balance along with the report. Never were we notified in any way, by anyone, there was a question or problem with the location we indicated. There was a delay in payment of the balance and we had a few conversations with management following up on the payment; the invoice had apparently been lost and copies had to be emailed. Never was there a remark about the accuracy of the test. No attempt was ever made by our client (the management firm) to have the bill reduced, nor negotiated; nor was a request made for a refund or anything of that nature. As far as we have known for the last year, there was not an issue except for the slow payment on the balance. We have never had contact with/knowledge of the member who posted this review, so we were quite surprised to see this review one year later. If we had been notified in a timely manner of any issues with the leak location, we would have addressed their concerns immediately.

I scheduled the appointment in late December and they came out in early January. The fee for finding the leaks is $400. If they find/fix a leak and there happens to be another one (can only find one leak per line at a time) they will continue finding leaks for free. The workmen came to the house on a very cold and nasty day and found the leak quickly and indicated that it was near the skimmer. They said that if the skimmer didn't have to be replaced, it would be about $800. They then wrote up a detailed report and described the options for repairing it. They offered to do the work which would be guaranteed. I opted to have them do the repair which they did a few days later. It was done on time and everything works great now. They had to break two holes through the patio that they patched very well. All the pool (leak) repair companies were booked long into the future, so I would recommend getting on their calendar asap.

After the big rains a short while ago, my pool suddenly began to leak about an inch a day. I called American Leak, who gave us a date a week in the future, but offered to put us on standby for cancellations. Later that same day, they called back and said they could come the next afternoon. That afternoon, as promised, they called to advise they were on the way. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Noel Gutierrez showed up and got to work diagnosing the issue. He first told me that he had found a loose screw in the light that was letting a lot of water out. He tightened up the screw then covered it up with epoxy to keep it sealed. He left the light uninstalled, sitting on the side of the pool, so the epoxy could harden undisturbed. He said he would return the following day to reinstall the light. He then continued diagnosis and reported that there were no other leaks. There was no charge, since we are still under warranty from a bigger leak job they performed in August last year. This was a surprise, because their documentation said that the warranty was 30 days!I filled the pool and noted the level with a piece of tape. The following day it was still at the same level - apparently the leak is fixed fine. Mr. Gutierrez returned the following day, as promised, and reinstalled the light. Everything looks to be completely shipshape at this point.

They were very informative, left a detailed report including multiple options for getting things fixed and answered all my questions. I would use these guys again in a heartbeat although, I hope I never have to.
Description of Work: We had a leak under our slab that was making most of the kitchen and living room floors warm (we have tile) so it was impossible for us to pinpoint. We didn't want a plumber coming in a tearing up 50 sq. ft. of tile and slab so we called American Leak Detection to see if they could pinpoint where the leak was. They showed up promptly, worked their magic and got us to the point where the plumbers only had to pull up one tile to get to the leak. While they were in the house they also checked the entire rest of the house for leaks since we had recently had our foundation leveled.

I did not speak to them as our owner did. What impressed me the most was that there was a huge amount of dirt that they had put on the floor in the middle of the bathroom and how they had cleaned it afterwards. It was very clean after they were done. They did it without any broom and they put it all back together perfectly. It was very nice. They were reliable and did what they said they would do. I had no way of comparing the price as I did not know what other service providers charged but I thought it was reasonable for the work they had done. Their quality of work was excellent.
Description of Work: I have used the services of American Leak Detection-Austin and San Antonio in August 2010. They have re-done underneath the toilet in the bathroom of my house and replaced a pipe underneath the flap.
