Patio looks great, had a few issues during excavation but David took care of everything. I would use Abarrco Contracting again in the future.

I recently purchased a RV motor coach; and I didn't want the added expense of paying to store or keep it at a RV storage facility, so I decided to have a cement pad built behind my house. I had contacted several contractors, and after looking over each of their proposals, I decided to go with Mr. David Barr II. I liked his proposal in how he was going to construct the cement pad, the approach (culvert), and driveway. Even though his proposal seemed a little more expensive than the others, I felt that his work would be more sturdy and effective, thus, giving me exactly what I needed. David gave me a set date to start the work and he was there, ready to go. He was very reliable, starting work on time and working late into the evening. I found him to be very professional and courteous at all times, even when we had differing opinions. He listened to me and heard my concerns, and told me that he would do what it took to make me happy with the work. He kept his word, and when he was finished, I couldn't have been more pleased. If ever I should need cement work done on my land, David Barr is my to go guy!
Description of Work: He excavated and constructed a 18 feet by 36 feet cement pad with a 4 inch by 18 feet curb at the top of the pad for my RV (motor-coach); placed an approach (culvert) and driveway to gain access to the cement pad.

The project went very well. The area was excavated and the dirt removed. Mr. Barr noted that the soil they removed was of good quality, so we kept it for another project. He and his assistant moved the dirt to a location of my choosing. Due to the hardness of the subsurface, wooden stakes were used to support the form. This required more time and effort. Dow pins were installed to keep the old and new sections together. The new portions were laid carefully, with attention to detail and the fact that our property lies on a downward slope, so proper water drainage is an issue that must be addressed. It was; we have had no problem with water flowing across the new additions. During the initial digging process, a water line was punctured, which Mr. Barr noted. He located and repaired the line at no additional cost to us. As I was certain there were no lines in the work area (I was wrong), I misinformed him. But he assured me it was not a problem, and he was equipped to handle the repair, which he did. No more leakage. The project took 4 days, mainly because it rained the third day (after the concrete had been poured and spread, perfect timing!), so they had to leave earlier than usual. Mr. Barr returned the fourth day to finish up and repair the line. We couldn't have asked for a better outcome. Mr. Barr and his crew were efficient and professional. We are very pleased with the new addition to our driveway.
Description of Work: Added width (1' by 36') to my front sidewalk, and added a new section (30' by 26') of concrete adjacent to the existing driveway. Also, added width (3' by 7') to the entry portion of the existing driveway.

David was a pleasure to work with. He was responsive my request for a quote and quickly worked me into his schedule. We set a time for the actual work. When the time was near, David asked about my HOA, which (as a new homeowner) I'd forgotten about. So I had to delay the actual work to run the plans through my HOA. When I received approval, David fit me back into his schedule on short notice. The job was supposed to take three days, but when David saw bad weather in the forecast, he did stayed late and finished in one day. I really can't praise him enough. He was helpful, flexible, and understanding, and did a wonderful job for a fair price to boot.
Description of Work: David broke out and haul off our front walk, which had sunk due to the yard settling. He poured a 5' x 16' walk with a 8" beam on the outside perimeter. Installed 3/8" rebar on 12" centers. Drilled and installed 3/8" dow pins to connect the walk to the foundation.

David installed 2" of crushed base gravel and compacted it. He installed 3/8" rebar on 12" centers both ways. Drilled and installed dow pins into existing cement garage slab, and poured 4" of 4000 PSI cement , finished with a broom finish. The concrete was poured on a driveway area between two fences, leaving no gaps along either fence. The driveway looks great, even my neighbors commented on how good it looks. David is a professional and takes pride in his work. I would not hesitate to use his company again.

Mr. Barr has single-handedly restored my faith in humanity. Well, at least, in contractors. I had a very difficult time finding a contractor who would provide me with the things I expected and wanted. The things anyone who was going to spend a chunk of money on would expect: like a simple bid in writing (preferably on letterhead) that included all the services that would be provided, all the materials that would be used, a projected start date, and a price. Herewith in list form is what Mr. Barr did: 1.) He called me the same day that I left a message on his number which I found on Angie's List. 2.) He identified himself! (Honestly, that's a first!) 3.) I think I called him on a Wednesday and told him that I wanted a new driveway. He promised to go look at the site by the end of the week and call me back with a quote. Which he did. 4.) He told me he could do the job (which, at this point, was just a driveway) and how he would do it, how much it would cost and said he would send his bid in an email. He told me also that he wouldn't be able to get to the job until after the holidays. I was a little disappointed as the house was vacant and I was expecting tenants at the end of December, so this seemed like the perfect time. But I was swayed by all his good reviews - he's a busy man for good reason and I'm a reasonable person. His materials were of a higher quality than other bids I received, 4" of 4000PSI cement, 2" of base material, 1/2" rebar on 12" centers both ways. His price was just a little higher. But not unreasonably so. So waiting wasn't a deal breaker. His written bid received shortly thereafter. 5.) The week before Christmas, Mr. Barr called to say that he'd had a customer cancel a job which opened up a spot for my job. Would I be interested in proceeding the week after Christmas? Holiday calculations were made hastily - I live 125 miles from SA. Yes! Lets proceed! He had told me that 1/2 the fee would be due on starting and offered to meet me to pick up a check. At that point he did not understand that I did not live in town. Once we cleared up that issue, he was able to take my payment via credit card over the phone. I had a receipt in my in-box within 30 minutes. 6.) Mr. Barr had the prep work underway and completed the week before Christmas. He texted me pics of the progress at the end of every days' work. He met the incoming tenants one day and called me with their request: would I be interested having him install a sidewalk between the driveway to the house?Hmmm. Mr. Barr said,"I can spray paint in the outlines and text you a pic. You could see if you like it." And I did! Great idea. Proceed. He made it with a gentle curve that embraced the front of the house and complimented the original sidewalk from the front door to the street. An elegant and subtle esthetic on the fly so to speak - beyond simply going from point A to point B in a straight line. The additional expense of the sidewalk was worth the new "eye-appeal" of the house. 7.) The day of the pour, Dec. 30, it was bitter cold and drizzling. I pulled up at 10 am, the time Mr. Barr had told me work would begin. The cement truck was already pouring, the crew was slogging and shoveling and directing the cement and Mr. Barr was right in there with them, rubber-booted and working hard. Have I painted a picture here? A man who works hard at all levels of his job, who does what he says he's gonna do, and does it with skill and at reasonable cost and in the time he said it he would do it. And with add-ons! A good humored, kind, articulate and gracious person; Mr. Barr is what used to be known as the salt of the earth. What more could you ask?
Description of Work: Mr. Barr removed an old pea-gravel driveway and built a new cement driveway and sidewalk for my childhood home in San Antonio which is now a rental.

David Barr was outstanding throughout this entire process. We received several bids for the work that needed to be done and his bid was comparable to or less than the other bids. In addition, we felt more comfortable with him after talking to him. When he came to our hours at the appointed time, he took a great deal of time to talk to us and to explain what would need to be done. He politely answered all of our questions without rushing. We were very impressed with him as a person and as a contractor. When the time came to do the job, he arrived right on time and completed the work in the time frame that he provided us. David is a very hard worker, as are the men that work for him. They are all extremely courteous and respectful. We were very impressed with their skill sets and their work ethic. When removing the roots of the oak tree, David did far more than we expected. He was very determined to remove any trace of the tree, rather than just settling for making it look good. We were also impressed with the amount of time that David and his men took to prepare for the concrete and then to actually pour the new concrete. The job was successfully completed on time. We were very impressed with David, his men, and the process. We plan to use him again for future projects and we have already recommended him to several of our friends and business associates. I honestly cannot remember being so pleased with a contractor or provider of services. In addition, we believe that we have found a new friend in David Barr. We highly recommend him!
Description of Work: David Barr and his team removed two sections of our concrete driveway, took out numerous roots of an oak tree that were doing damage to our driveway and the corner of our home, and replaced the concrete sections of the driveway.

His price was comparable to all of the other prices plus he did it the way that I wanted it done. He proposed exactly what I wanted done so I didn't have to convince him to do it the way that I wanted. I did a good bit of research first and I determined what I wanted. Others proposed less quality work so I was pleased with his bid.
Description of Work: He took out my old driveway and walkway and replaced it with an exposed aggregate driveway. I also added a new walkway from the house to the street. He had to put in a drainage system. He hauled off all of the broken concrete and put in new.

If you are like my wife and I then you do not like looking for a contractor but after searching Angies List and reading the reviews, we called David Barr of A'Barrco Contracting to give us a quote. He arrived a few minutes early which we appreciated and was very professional. He gave us an estimate and told us exactly what he would do from beginning to end. We knew right away that we would use his company and ask him when he could start. He applied three levels of stain, one in the cement and the others after stamping the pattern and then applied a sealant. The process he used gave us exactly what we were looking for and even better than we imagined it would be. When you get a picture in your head of how you want something to look and it turns out even better it's a great feeling. If you're looking for a contractor who goes the extra mile then look no further. We will add an addition to our driveway and need a slab poured for an additional garage/work area and will definitely call A'Barrco Contracting.

David Barr is an artist in his field. Please pardon my exuberance, but Mr. Barr provided the absolutely best, hands down, no doubt about it, best experience I?ve ever had with a home improvement contactor. And I?ve had a lot. Part architect; Part Engineer; Part field commander; Part logistics officer; etc. etc. In absolutely every aspect of this project, David Barr, demonstrated amazing competence and absolute professionalism. When we weren?t sure what, exactly we wanted or needed, he asked exactly the right questions and offered some remarkably inventive options for us to choose from. He was able to tell us the up side and down side of every option. He uses only the best, most talented workers to help and manages his crew with a firm but kind hand and first class communication. It?s obvious his workers both like him personally and respect him for his knowledge and skills. From initial contact to final clean up, David Barr fulfilled, and often exceeded, every contract detail and every expectation. He delivered on every promise, in full and on time. And the result is a new driveway that looks so good it?s like a work of art. Hence, Mr. Barr is an artist. In fact, the new driveway looks so good, I sometimes feel guilty when I drive on it! Alan & Holly Cirlin P.S. It?s been 2 months since the project was completed and it STILL looks amazing.

This company is excellent. They began the job promptly on the date promised and finished exactly in two weeks (the promised date of completion). Throughout the job, I was kept informed of progress and problems that would need resolution after the job was completed e.g. damage to the sprinkler system. The problems encountered were known in advance and were resolved without difficulty after completion. David Barr (the owner) was on the job every day. He projects friendliness, honesty, and thorough professionalism. I would use his company with not a single reservation.

Our asphalt driveway was about 20 years old, was too narrow where it extended from the garage, was crumbling at the edges, and was generally deteriorating. We considered having the asphalt refurbished and even solicited quotations for it. We have several hundred feet of driveway, so the cost was going to be considerable. Before awarding a contract, I decided to find out how much it would cost to replace part or all of the asphalt with concrete. I solicited quotations for the job from three contractors, with two or three options to replace all or only parts of the existing asphalt driveway with concrete. Ultimately, I decided to replace only about 1700 square feet where the driveway makes its final approach to the garage and the barn. Abarrco's quotation for the job was the second-highest, but I liked the fact that he proposed to use rebar to reinforce the concrete instead of the heavy wire mesh that the others proposed. I was not concerned when the owner, David Barr, told me that it would be a couple of months before my job would reach the top of the queue. His waiting list helped to confirm the positive reviews I had read of Abarrco's work, so I was not concerned about the wait. As is the nature of contracting work that can suffer weather delays, our start date was pushed back a couple of times, and twice at my request because of our travel schedule. On Friday, January 10, David arrived with one member of his crew, a polite and hard-working young man named Peter. They set to work using a bobcat to break up the old asphalt and to deposit it in a dump trailer. I had identified a location near the back of our 5-acre property where the broken asphalt could be dumped, and they ultimately placed 3-4 loads there. David gave me a significant price break for this, because he did not have to bring in a dump truck to haul away the debris. David used a transit to shoot the levels for the string lines that would guide installation of the forms, taking care to ensure that the driveway would drain away from the entrances to the garage and barn and that it would meet smoothly with the asphalt where they cut it. On Monday, January 13, David and Peter returned and completed the asphalt removal and grading. I enjoyed watching David's virtuoso operation of the bobcat to achieve a smooth base at the correct level. While David was putting the finishing touches on the grading, Peter was setting forms to align with the string lines. David provided a little supervision of Peter's work, but only a little was needed; Peter does excellent work. On Tuesday and Wednesday, January 14-15, Peter worked alone to cut, lay, and tie the rebar in a grid of about 12-15" spacing. Placing and finishing the concrete was scheduled for Thursday, but it had to slip to Friday because Abarrco's finishing crew was delayed on a job in Laredo. We were traveling to a wedding out of town when the concrete was placed and finished on Friday, January 17. By the time we returned home on the afternoon of January 18, The forms had been removed and the work site had been tidied. They even moved--at no extra charge--a large pile (at least 10 cubic yards) of dirt and rock from a location where I had mentioned that I didn't like it to the location where they had dumped the asphalt. Both sites were leveled and smoothed, and you can't even see the asphalt. Although we didn't get to interact with the finishing crew or observe their work, we are very pleased with the product. I can't imagine that our driveway could look any better. We found both David and Peter to be pleasant, respectful, hard-working, and professional. I am recommending Abarrco to my daughter and son-in-law, who are considering installing a sport court at their house.

The work was accomplished with a minimum of disturbance to my lawn. The quality of work was as good as I could possibly ask for. Mr. Barr was both very pleasant and professional and was present for the duration of the job. All things went as proposed and scheduled. The final cleanup was beyond what I expected - it basically left me with little to no clean up nor yard work. The cost was the lessor of two bids and I didn't have to compromise on anything. I would highly recommend ABARRCO CONTRACTING (Mr. Barr) for anyone entertaining the thought of doing concrete work.
Description of Work: Removed and hauled off asphalt from two large driveways - broke up and hauled off concrete from sidewalk. Laid base material then added one 3" pipe across sidewalk and three 3" pipes across the one driveway and two 3" pipes across the other driveway. Set forms and laid rebar for sidewalk and both driveways - Poured 2611 sq. ft. of concrete for one driveway, 1400 sq. ft. for the other and a 27 ft. length of sidewalk.

It went very well. David Barr, the owner met us on time to provide an estimate for the work and he was on site for the whole project. He started on time and worked until the job was finished and came in at budget. He took the time to explain what he was doing and made several suggestions that helped the drainage on my lot. My house sets below the road. They worked. The area received 12 inches of rain in a day and there was no water in the garage and no water in the house. David and his crew were courteous and polite and they cleaned up after the work. I would highly recommend this company!

David never missed a day working. He and his workman were polite and really did know what they were doing. The materials used were of a higher standard than the law requires. The patio was finished exactly as we had wanted it done. The design is great. His workmen never complained, and always "put in" a full days work. We could have not chosen more competent contractor, in fact 2 of my neighbors contracted him to do their driveways. Actions speak louder than words.

I had Abarrco Contracting add a 2nd driveway and a parking pad. The work was excellent and the price was very competitive. David Barr was on-site doing the work each day. He removed a tree as part of the job at very little extra cost. He was easily accessible by cell phone. He completely took care of a city permit and didn't charge extra for his trouble.

David was very responsive to my request for a bid. He showed up right when he said he would to look over the project and make recommendations. He then got back with me In a timely manner and gave me to bid. Because we have a large heavy motor home, he recommended using 1/2 inch rebar spaced 12 inches crisscrossed and 4000 lb. per square inch concrete. He rescheduled and came a week earlier than he had projected in his original schedule. Best of all, David worked with me in getting exactly what I wanted done with the drive way and approach while satisfying the city of San Antonio inspector on all ADA statutes and codes. David took care of getting the permit and scheduling the inspections. He also did an outstanding job putting up sidewalk barricades and traffic cones during the construction process. It was obvious that safety was paramount. ABARRCO Contracting is not cheap, but I feel if you get what you pay for then you should pay for what you get. Everybody is happy. Ken
Description of Work: Removed and replaced 18 ft. of double driveway and approach. The driveway approach grade level had to be excavated considerably to meet my needs.
