Terrible! Against the advice of others I used Bob to repair my garage door. After a very long road trip we completely forgot we had a metal fire ring on top of our SUV, which resulted in us taking out the bottom panel of our garage door. I got a quote from Bob and one from Overhead Door. They quoted about the same price so I decided to stay local..huge mistake. Bob himself came out and inspected the door, was very nice and I felt comfortable that he would do a good job. Sent a crew out while I was at work to install the panel. First off, it was the WRONG panel, it was insulated which none of the other panels were, you would think that would be an easy catch on their part, why would I have ONE insulated panel, and it didn't fit correct causing the entire door to bow slightly when closed. To top it off I got a bill for over $200 more than what was quoted because it was an INSULATED panel and the wrong one!! When we told him about it and that we wanted it fixed and to only pay the price that was quoted he started ignoring our calls. That's right..ignoring our calls. We would get "past due notices" in the mail from his office but he was never there to take our calls after he yelled at my husband on the first call. I am not one to not pay someone for their work, I just wanted it fixed so I could pay the balance ( I already paid for the track to be repaired) and go on with life which included a working garage door. My husband finally went up to the store with cash in hand and offers to pay him what was quoted and we would eat the cost of having the panel removed and fixed by someone else, just so we could be done with this mess. He literally ignored my husband like my husband wasn't there. Here we were trying to do the right thing, which honestly we were not obligated to do because it was Bob's mistake, take a hit on the $$$ part and he disrespects my husband by ignoring him as if he wasn't in the room. Then we get a lien on our house, he takes out a lien on our house. At this point I am so mad I write to him on one of his "past due notices" (because he won't take our phone calls) and tell him to take me to court, that I have all the proof I need to win the case and make him pay me in damages. It came to nothing and the lien was lifted. I had to replace the entire garage door because the incorrect panel they installed ended up bending the other panels. He cost me a lot of money and was very unprofessional in handling it. I reported him to the BBB and I make sure to tell everyone I know to avoid him like the plague. I have no idea how he is still in business. Use Overhead Door out of Midland for your garage needs, very professional and will make it right!!

They showed up quickly and I probably still had tears in my eyes because I backed into my garage door like a dummy. It was just enough to knock it off the tracks which is complicated if you don't know what your doing. But they fixed me all up and it hardly cost me any thing.

To make a short story of a bad incident. My mother put in my care a 19th century library table that she received from an old fella who lived up the road from my family when I was still a young boy. Years had past and she told me to take the table when I moved to Texas (she had no room to use it in and knew I needed furniture) upon settling in my latest home away from farm and family I had no room for the piece either. I opted to let some friends store it (and stressed that I was concerned about water damage) 6 or 7 months later my worst fears were confirmed, the roof did indeed leak and my sweet mothers table was virtually destroyed. You cant imagine the fear of telling mom (to this day I haven't) and the disappointment in myself I felt for allowing this to happen. Come to find out later that these so called friends weren't !!! Not telling her seemed to be my least painful way out although ("I would always no"!!). So I started looking online for someone who could tell me if my repair endeavor was possible, I was surprised to see how many furniture doctors there are, I felt a lot better but still hadn't made an effort to get it repaired and was on the verge of throwing it in the dumpster behind the house cause the more I looked at it passing by the sicker my gut felt. One day I walked into Bob Custom Woodwork for a completely different reason and I realized after Bob and I talked and he showed me his shop that he did repair on furniture and used to have several accounts with different furniture stores and moving companies that had damage from shipping and moving and the likes. Lights and bells were going off in my head and I said " would you mind looking at a table I have". A week or so later I brought the piece to him and he said "I CAN FIX THAT" but wasn't overly leading and told me that you will still know it was restored but I will use all the original wood that is there. Looking at it from my point I just thought "well it cant look any worst"! Bob shot me a price and said we'll start there but it will probably be in the zone and even higher check with me in a few weeks. It had been some time since I dropped the table off and went to see how it was coming along. Bob took me to the back and said it was coming slow but you cant rush through these things, at first glance it looked like it would never be the way I remembered it, there were pieces everywhere! (legs, struts, top, veneer, edging, pedestal legs, inlays, and a container of the original screws, but he knew were every part was and started to show me where we were at and what was next. It looked really good considering the mess he had to start with. Next visit more had been done and I was starting admire this mans skill and ability. He never called me or had any communication unless I stopped by to visit my mothers table, at last visit he showed me all the things and pieces and even some things that I didn't expect ( missing skirting that I thought would never be seen again), he hand carved and fitted so you would never know it had been lost! All the boards were straight and tight, inlays were all smooth and in place ( he did have to reinforce the top from beneath with some material to give it stability and cohesion but unless you look REAL CLOSE and turn the table over you cant tell). I went by Bobs on the 17th of may and he said it was in the finishing room waiting to be matched stained and such, but it looked beautiful so I had to touch it and "wholly cow"! I couldn't believe how smooth it felt! It looked better than it did when it was given to me by a long shot even though it wasn't color matched and assembled. Remember when I told you about the estimate $300 to $400? "I don't care if it turns out to be twice that" ( I don't have to tell mom !!!!!! :) :) P.S My overall impression of Bob is that he a little rough around the edges and straight foreword, he will tell you the answer to the question that you ask but will not babysit you, "you have to respect that !" He is polite and professional, if you try to tell him how it will be done, DONT! Remember, you called upon him. Ask questions and trust his opinion and discuss possible options. There are others who may say than can do it, but Bob walks the walk! I will recommend BOBS CUSTOM WOODWORK for the quality of work performed in my experience, if I could post a picture of the finished piece I would, and I think you would agree AAA+ amazing! Thanks Bob. He has been in business a long time and may only stay open because of passion for the skills he possess and for loyalty to the downtown that serves him well

Saying it was a terrible experience is an understatement, but it actually started off well. Bob himself showed up at my house, he was very friendly but brisk. He told me he could get the cable re-wound and the panel straightened out the next day so I could have access to my garage asap, then they would come back and replace the panel when it arrived (it had to be ordered). He went to leave and I didn't have an estimate from him yet, just what he intended to do he never actually got my approval for his company to be hired, that should of been a red flag. But he seemed nice, he was local and he has been around a long time, what could go wrong, right? I asked him for a quote before he could run and he then wrote me two estimates, $195 for the initial repairs and $265 for the one new panel and installation. This again was very close to Overhead Doors estimate so I gave him the go ahead (even though he acted as if the job was already his). They did the first repair while I was at work and it was good except for a mess they left behind. Heavy grease on the floor and some nails in the driveway. I paid the $195 and confirmed the next step which was to replace the panel. I believe it was about 2 weeks later when the panel arrived and they came and installed it, again while I was at work. (My husband was working out of town a lot during this time and I worked 12 hour shifts 8-8 so no one was there to be able to confirm the work before it began, I was putting a lot of trust in Bob to be honest and have integrity.) I came home to an new panel, it wasn't exactly like the other panels. On the outside it had a slightly different fake wood grain texture look and it had a metal seal on the top, the other three panels did not have this, the metal made it look a little out of place but it wasn't a huge deal, I was going to overlook it. However on the inside of the panel I noticed it was insulated, the other three panels are not insulated so it doesn't make sense to have one insulated panel (4 panel garage door). However I wasn't about to get super picky over it as I was exhausted working my shifts and keeping up with my kids while my dear husband was out of town. I mentioned to my husband (over the phone) that it was odd they put an insulated panel on and that you'd think that would cost more, it was something we were going to ask Bob, if it made a price difference. Well apparently it did!! We got a bill for over $460 for the panel replacement! Bringing the total repair cost to well over $600!!!!! It was $200 over what he gave us as an estimate. He never told us there would be this much in cost increase, he never asked approval for this new estimate. Which obviously I would of asked why and informed him we didn't need to insulated panel which caused the extra cost. Also as we inspected the door closer there was damage to the insulation of the new panel (again didn't matter since we have 3 non insulated panels) and a crease in the top panel they must of damaged it somehow getting the old panel off or new panel on, plus creases in the third panel. Just a terrible job overall. Never once did Bob confirm the panel with me, never once did he call and say, "Oops I orded the wrong panel, it will be a while longer, Sorry!". He just put that panel on and acted like he didn't do anything wrong, like having ONE insulated panel was normal and something I would be happy to pay for. My husband called him to talk about this big price difference and that the panel was the wrong one. We were obviously charged for an insulated panel when we didn't need it. This is when it got bad. He hung up on my husband and ignored all his calls thereafter. Then we received a nasty letter in the mail breaking down the cost, like we were idiots. I would also like to point out that my husband is very laid back and he was very nice and cordial the entire time he dealt with Bob. My husband then went down to Bob's business since Bob wouldn't take his phone calls, and Bob basically told him, "too bad" and refused to go back to the original price he estimated for us. We told him on several occasions we would just pay the remaining $265 and call it even. We weren't even going to make him fix the panel which didn't even match that well! We were both so busy we honestly didn't have time to deal with this and just wanted this nightmare to be over. We also believe you should pay for a person's work so I think we were being very generous to pay the original agreed amount and call it even without making him replace the panel for the correct panel. He never would work with us and wouldn't communicate with us at all. I was seriously shocked as this man is well into his 70's you just wouldn't expect such childish behavior. We then got a lien in the mail on our house from Bob's Custom Woodwork for the $460. Never in my life have I dealt with such an awful person running a business. We fully plan to take Bob's Custom Woodworks to court. We have everything documented and now it is a matter of principal. Bob displayed very poor character and ethics and I would highly recommend you steer clear of his company. For garage door repair in Big Spring I recommend Overhead Door, great company and they take care of all the businesses in this area.
Description of Work: My garage door's bottom panel was damaged and the cable unraveled when my dear husband ran into with a load on top of our SUV that he had forgotten about. In his defense we were coming back late evening from a week long camping trip and it was an 8 hour drive, he was very tired, and it was something one of his family members left behind not something we took with us. ;)So we needed the bottom panel replaced and the cable re-wound to be back in working order. I received two estimates, one from Bob's Custom WoodWorks for $460 for total repair and almost the exact same estimate from Overhead Door located in Midland Texas. I decided to stay local because I believe in trying to spend in your community. Though I will say I was warned by many people not to use Bob's and even a very large retail company I worked for used Overhead Doors out of Midland. Should of been my red flag...that's what I get for being loyal I suppose.
