This job did not proceed as I expected. I was referred to Southern Plumbing by the contractor who had done a remodel on a bath. I also checked Southern out on Angie's List and they had excellent reviews. I was very disappointed in this project. There were several significant errors: 1) failure to call 811 to mark underground utilities; 2) line to garage excavated and removed when it did not need to be done, nor was it requested; 3) old sewer lines removed without notice, leaving the house without sanitary sewers; 4) irrigation lines cut; 5) failure to dig trench from tunnel to exterior of house, to connect with new sewer line; 6) plumber arrived at 11:00 am on Saturday to complete plumbing work in tunnel without the exterior trench. He was completely unaware he was supposed to be routing all the drains to the exterior of the house. I had to stop him from making a major plumbing error. I felt like I was the general contractor on this job. I was very surprised Southern did not call 811 before excavating. Failure to contact 811 before excavating is extremely risky. When I asked James if he was planning on calling 811, he said "yes'; then didn't do it; and then stated he thought I would do it. That's not my job, it's his. Had the excavators hit something significant, like a gas line, all of us would have been sued. My fencing contractor and Blue Water Irrigation both called 811 before doing their work; I expected the same professionalism from Southern Plumbing. I was disappointed there was absolutely no oversight or supervision of the project by Southern. It appears they just tell the subcontractors and their plumbers to go to the assigned address and dig and replace pipes. I did not get the impression that James or anyone from Southern ever came to the project to check on its progress or to ensure the work was being done properly; I had to do that. I would have assumed that with a $10,000 project someone from Southern Plumbing would at least come by for 5 minutes, either in the morning or afternoon, to review the work done and make sure things were going as planned and as contracted for. I did not need the line to the garage done, but I agreed to pay for it; and if I had not stopped the plumber that Saturday, a major error would have occurred as he would have routed the drain lines back into the bad cast iron pipe. Someone overseeing the project should have spotted there was no exterior trench; and had the plumber been told exactly what the was supposed to do, he should have told me the work couldn't be done, instead of vice versa. When I asked James about this, I did not receive a response. I think the work was done well, it was just a highly frustrating experience; and more expensive than expected. Southern did make some adjustment on the price, but for what I paid, I expect the plumber to know what is going on and supervise the work being done. _______________________________________

This company is professional in every aspect of the word. They were on time to give the estimate, they gave a thorough evaluation of what needed to be done, gave me options and even went back over the estimate later when I called. I scheduled the repairs a couple weeks later, they were on time as scheduled. Did the demolition, pipe replacement and clean up within one day. After they were paid for the work, I had an issue with water pressure in my kitchen, so they returned and offered to replace my faucet for free, even though the issue had very little to do with the installed pipes. If there was an award, they deserve it. My only quarrel with them is I got a referral by one of the workers to use a sheetrock repair company by the name of Ponce, who are also on angielist. These sheetrock repairmen gave me the worst experience, I've already left unfavorable feedback on their page! Other than this and I still haven't received a final invoice of work for my records, but all and all this company did an exceptional job

The 2 gentlemen that showed up were prompt, courteous and did quality work. Extremely prompt, professional, courteous. Only reason I would not use them in future is there are generally one or more issues they don't handle that accompany plumbing problems. Think they would be great for pure plumbing if you have any.
Description of Work: Specialized plumbing only & do not handle any issues associated with plumbing problem. Arrived within 2 hrs of my call - said leak was mainly an A/C problem & needed to call A/C person, plus need sheetrock repair where leaking thru ceiling & they don't do that either. Looked at 2 other issues in 2 baths - said we would need tile & flooring subcontractors because they only did the actual plumbing part. Very pleasant and efficient, gave me a referral for an A/C guy, but company is very limited in services offered. Ran snake down an a/c line gratis just in case it might help - very nice!

I had a plumber that I used for 30 years who has done work in both bathrooms, installed a new kitchen sink/faucet, and new hot water heater. I never had a problem after they completed the work. Unfortunately, several of my independent contractors have either pass or are out of business. But, I will go back to getting referrals from friends. These guys will not do any of the jobs I got bids from them for. I use homewyse before doing any repairs to get an idea of what the going rate is in my area. For the work he did the range was from 130 - 153. So, at 185, he is a little on the high side, as was his bid to replace a cartridge in a faucet (160, with me buying the cartridge) and to replace the shower pan in a stand up shower (900). He told me that the cartridge for my faucet was pricey, lol, they were under nine dollars each. My son can come replace them in 30 minutes. In my opinion they overcharge and try to upsale the customer to spend more than they really need to spend. In my opinion they are not trustworthy. I was unable to use the Angie's List coupon because I had no ink in my computer. I have already gotten the names of two reputable plumbers that friends use and I will give the future work to one of them. I can see that it is going to be hard to rebuild my list of reliable and quality craftsmen.
Description of Work: First the plumber came and said it would be $150. Then he said he would have to check with his boss. When he came back to fix the leak he said it would be $185. I agreed and they started the job. They went in the attic and cut the galvanized pipe with a reciprocating saw and replace the approximately 2 feet of pipe where the leak was located. They went in the bathroom and ran the hot water in the tub and said that everything was fixed. He showed me the section of pipe he removed and the site of the leak. He pointed out how clogged up the pipes were. We had a conversation about the fact that maybe in the future I might want to replace at least the horizontal pipes in the attic. He also said that when I do the repairs needed in my shower in the master bedroom that I should redo the pipes in there when the wall is open. When my son went to take a shower later that night there was very little hot water coming from the tub faucet. I went in and checked the water flow and there was some hot water coming out, but very little in comparison to before the repairs. Later that night I went into the garage to put some clothes in the dryer and there was water everywhere. The hot water heater was leaking. My son got up and turned the water supply off and turned the gas off. When my other son got to my house he went out in the garage and fixed it. When the plumber used the reciprocating saw it had vibrated the connection to the water heater loose. He obviously did not secure the pipe in the attic before cutting it. I called and left a message for them stating the problems I was having prior to my son coming and fixing it.....at 3am. When the worker showed up the next day and saw the amount of hot water coming from the faucet in the bathroom he said I needed to replace my pipes......thousands of dollars. I have lived in this house for 34 years and have never had a problem like this after having plumbing repairs done. He said that when they cut the pipe (using the reciprocating saw) it knocks stuff loose and sometimes it will clog up the pipe when they turn the water back on. So, my question is, if he is a plumber and knows his stuff why would use a saw that shook everything so violently on pipes he knows are 43 years old. Why not use a hand saw or secure the pipes before cutting them. Why not suggest that I replace the horizontal pipe from the water heater to the bathroom where they were going to run the water first in order to remove the clogged pipe that is obviously creating this problem. I guess what I am saying is that I do not trust them. I feel like he is trying to upsale me. Sorry guys, I was not born yesterday. I also told him that my son had loosened and retightened the brass nut and the leaking from the water heater had stopped. He knew right away that the vibrations from the saw had loosened the fitting. Soooooooo, why didn't he check that before he left. He was after all replacing a piece of pipe that is right where it comes up into the attic from the hot water heater.

Initially had water backing up into the master bath shower stall and tub. Southern Plumbing was called and arrived within 30 minutes. The water had drained, and they were unable to recreate the problem. They suggested a couple of short term fixes. They didn't charge for this visit even though they were there for about 45 minutes. 5 days later, the problem returned. They suggested we have the City of Pearland camera the line and see if the problem was on the city's side. Pearland City came out on a Saturday; did what they could. They returned before 8 am Monday morning with the camera. This lead to the discovery of tree roots. I called Southern plumbing back. They gave an estimate and fixed the problem within 24 hours. They were quick to respond to calls and keep me informed as to the progress of the project. When the city inspected the finished pipe, they commented it was one of the best fixes they had seen. Southern Plumbing was both quick to respond and reasonably priced. I will definitely call them again when plumbing services are needed.

When we ran a new gas line from the existing gas pipes down to our new gas stovetop the company provided an estimate and stuck to it. The work was done on time, cleanly, with minimal mess and exactly as they described. Today we had a more emergency situation with our shower not draining and the toilet backing up. I called around 10AM and they were out by 4:30. They gave me a reasonable time estimate. They took the Angie's List coupon and applied it without any problems. They also suggested a few improvements we could make to our bathroom and mentioned services they offered. They were all very relevant to my bathroom and didn't feel in any way like they were trying to 'sell' me anything, just letting me know what they can do. Each time they have sent friendly and competent people, usually two guys with one who does the talking. Their English is perfect, in this area of Houston I've had a lot of problems with my inability to speak Spanish when dealing with other companies, but from the phone operator to the plumbers themselves there was absolutely no problem communicating. I would unreservedly recommend this company.
Description of Work: I've used them twice. First time to run a gas line to our new gas stovetop. Second time to fix a shower and toilet that were backing up.

I called around 9:00, and a plumber was at my house by 10:30. We had inconsistent hot water in a shower and in a bathroom tap. David came out, checked the valve in the shower and determined that it was faulty. He cleaned out the tankless heater, which he said should be done regularly (who knew?), and said that would fix the hot water fluctuations. He also replaced a faucet on a tub. He was professional, thorough, and got everything done that I needed done. I was impressed with the service and I will definitely use this company again.

I called James out to come check the plumbing on a house I was inspecting. He came out on time and searched the house to find the clean out unit outside. Unable to find it, he called a few of his guys to come check for it as well. He was upfront with me mentioning if I want them to find it, there is an hourly bill that will be applied. He also mentioned if they are unable to find it, they can go through the toilet but that will be an additional fee as well. They were unable to locate the clean out so I told them to go remove the toilet and do their test that way. They were professional the entire time, however, the owner of the home would not allow them to take off the toilet so they couldn't complete their work. I ended up being charged for removal of the toilet and their fee to search for the clean out. I understand they were there and trying to work but no deliverables were met (outside of their control). He documented everything well and recommended I ask the seller to complete this over the next few days. I would recommend them again in the future.

from bid to estimate to arriving on time for the job to finishing when they said they would to clean up and beyond. where dirt had gotten on a fence when they dug, they washed the fence down before they left, They even put some of the dirt into a flower box for me when they didn't have to do that. Great company to work with overall.
Description of Work: I live in an old house and have had problems with bathrooms not draining properly for years. Finally bit the bullet and had them completely replace the pipes. they were nasty and the team had to tunnel under the house. they arrived on time, cleaned up each night, were exceptionally polite and completely cleaned up after themselve before leaving. It was a 5 day job -so I cannot tell you how pleased I was at how they worked to be nonintrusive, to explain each day what they were doing and the next steps. Not a cheap job, but I think it was a job well done and that will allow me another 50 years of a well performing bathroom!

My 20-year-old water heater started leaking badly. I called James and he gave me a "ballpark" estimate over the phone - something many plumbing companies won't do I learned. The estimate he gave me was more reasonable than the ones I was able to get from other plumbing companies. I told James which specific water heater I wanted, and he found it. When James and David arrived the water heater was still draining but very slowly (I had started draining the water heater the previous day but there was so much sediment clogging the drain valve that only a small stream of water would come out.). David use a piece of solder to try to clear the valve, but it proved impossible. Unfortunately there was no way to remove the drain valve handle to make it drain more quickly, so we had to let the water heater continue draining overnight, so the work could not be completed that day. The next day Sergio and his able assistant Chris came out to do the work. They placed a pad down to protect the carpet. My water heater is a "short" one, and it sits on a 5' platform in a confined space above the clothes dryer. It's not easy to get to, and a side mounted support bracket must be removed to take out the water heater. Sergio took the extra precaution of placing a piece of 2" x 4" under the platform to support it. They wrangled the old water heater out and the new one in without incident. At my request, they also replaced the washing machine outlet box and fixed a problem with the T&P drain line. Watching Sergio piece together and solder the hot and cold water lines for the washing machine it was obvious he takes pride in his work. James, David, Sergio and Chris were all polite and professional, and I am very satisfied with the work. Both days they were there when they said they would be, and the did not rush the work. I hope it doesn't become necessary, but if I need plumbing work again, I will call Southern Plumbing. (The final price includes the $100 discount (10% up to $100) Angie's List member's discount.)

The toilet in our guest bathroom was rocking (not a good thing!). I asked some friends if anyone could recommend a good plumber and my very picky friend told me about Southern Plumbing. I knew that if she was happy with them that they were good! I called yesterday and scheduled an appointment for today. It wasn't an emergency, but James said that they could take care of it today. David was very prompt and very professional. It was clear that he really knew what he was doing. He even took off his work boots to avoid soiling my carpet. He was here for about an hour and had to remove the toilet to put in new bolts and a new wax ring. He was very careful and checked everything to make sure it was working before he left. He is a delightful young man and I am very satisfied with the job he did. I will call them again. I even asked for extra business cards so that I could tell my friends about the company.

The repairman diagnosed the problem and described our options of new disposal to choose from. He went to a plumbing supply store in our area and purchased a 1/2 horsepower instead of the 1/3 horsepower that we originally discussed because it was the same price and would be better. We are thinking about replacing our hot water heaters and he told us our options and rough estimates. He was very informative and helpful. The work was completed quickly.
Description of Work: Garbage disposal replaced due to a split in the wall that caused water to leak.
