The experience was major bad, it was terrible. I got bad granite, I had to rip it off, he wouldn't give me my money back, and told me to sue him. I went to a lawyer to get my money back, and he filed bankruptcy, and he is still in business in Austin. I have put him on Yelp and everything. I even went to Fox News. He is bad. It was black granite, and I don't even know if it was real or dyed. I had it for 2 weeks, and I spilled salad dressing on it, and it got discolored. I had to rip it all out and got brand new. They wanted to come in and dye it. He came out and gave me an estimate and put the granite in. When this happened 2 weeks later, I called him ,and he looked at me, and asked me what I wanted him to do, and I said I wanted my money back. He said he can't do that. He said I should go ahead and sue him, and walked out. I found out that he had a reputation and everything, and he owed the stone yards, and he filed for bankruptcy, and then he was back in business in a couple of weeks. I went to the stone yard, and picked out the stone, and it was $1200 worth of stone, and they said they had replaced the stone, but by that time, I had already ripped it out. He didn't even try to meet me half way or say that he will get me new stone or anything like that. His prices are good, and I thought how bad can you mess up granite. I would never recommend him.

Top Surface came recommended to us by someone else. Sadly, I didnt check Angie's List prior or, I would have thought twice before selecting them. They were very pleasant to work with during the planning phase. We were scheduled on my target dates, allowed to pick out our slabs and they were flexible with our granite changes. However, the project didnt go exactly as planned. Prior to scheduling, I had told them that I was having other work done at my house and I needed the granite complete before the painting started. Based on their timelines, I scheduled painters to start the week after the granite was supposed to be done. However, the project did not start on time. The slab that we selected didnt arrive at the shop until the day before. On day 1 of installation (wed), no one showed up at the appointed time (9:30AM). The office had no idea that someone was supposed to show up. After many many calls explaining that we didnt live on site and had to make special trips to open the house and that we really needed to know when they would come, the demolish guy showed up at the one time slot neither of us could make. The granite installation was smoother on day 2 (Thurs). Kevin seemed to know what he was doing and I hope we have no problems with the stone. On day 3, again the backsplash guy didnt show. When I called the office, I was given some excuse about confusion regarding a change in backsplash stone (I did talk about other options but never actually ordered a different tile that the original). Since my painters were coming in Monday, I insisted they get someone in there ASAP. They told me they would schedule the tile guy for Saturday. We went in and AGAIN waited for him at the house Saturday and he AGAIN didnt show. No response from the owners or the office as they were closed for the weekend. Finally, on Monday I called and told them to push off the backsplash installation for one week till my paint work was complete. They agreed and I thought we had the situation under control so I was surprised when the painters called me to ask why there was a tile guy installing backsplash when they were supposed to be painting it. Apparently, the office forgot to inform the tile guy that he wasnt supposed to go there! As a result of the tile and painters working simultaneously on the kitchen, the backsplash was not installed properly and the final product looks untidy with uncleaned dried grout on all the walls by the edges. Top Surface has well meaning owners and staff but they really need to get a handle on the scheduling and realize that everyone is busy and actions like above In this age of choices, making your customer jump through hoops to get the service you provide is likely not a good plan for success.

I picked out black granite at Pacific stone shores in Austin. After Top surface installed the counter tops, I was fixing a salad and got lemon juice on the counter, A white haze appeared and would not come off. I called top surface and when the owner came out and I asked him to fix the problem by replacing the stone he told me to sue him and walked out. Top surface them filed bankcruptcy and then reopened under the same name. I had to get another company to replace the bad stone, Top surface did not do a good job and did not stand behind the product they installed. I would never recommend this company, not only do they do poor quality work they do not stand behind the products they install.

I contacted various granite fabricators and chose Top Surface based on the price, what it included (ie no hidden charges) and how responsive, informative and friendly Shannon was in response to all of my questions. I called on a Friday to place my order and was put on the schedule for installation the following Thursday, which is an incredibly quick turnaround time. The quoted price included the fabrication and installation of 70 square feet of Uba Tuba granite countertops and a 16 gauge stainless steel sink. The only extra charges were for the for cutout and installation of the sink and the curved edge for the breakfast bar. My only major complaint is punctuality. The templater was 45 minutes late and they never called beforehand to let me know when he was coming even though they said they would. I had to call them to let them know he was late and to get an estimated arrival time. Also, the granite installation did not occur on the scheduled date. They had some problems at another installation and wouldn't be able to show up at my house until 6 pm and the installation was supposed to take 4+ hours. They never called to me to let me know how late they were running and I had to call them multiple times to find out what was going on. I rescheduled for the following day and they showed up on time. The installation took 5+ hours but went smoothly for the most part. The installers encountered some problems with the walls not being square and did a good job of problem solving and cutting the granite to make it fit perfectly. The fabricator miscut one piece, which the installer did not notice until I pointed it out to him after it was already installed. Amazingly, he was able to perfectly recut the piece with an angel grinder. The breakfast bar top was also miscut but could not be fixed on site. The fabricators was able to cut a new piece back at the shop and they came back to install it later that day. The next day I noticed some some hazy spots on the countertop. I let them know and they quickly came out to fix the problem. Overall, it was a very good experience. I always expect hiccups on any big project and this one did not have any more than any other. I will say that I was not pleased with the lack of punctuality, but Shannon was very responsive to my questions and problems. Most importantly, the installers did a great job. The countertop looks amazing.

It was a miserable experience. I am angry everyy day when I look at it. See above. SEAMS SHOULD MATCH.
Description of Work: Shannon's husbvand did the work since she was havIng surgery, I spent 2 afternoons at t he workplace drawing exactly where the cuts would be made for th various counter pieces so the seams would match, I t was a gorgeous piece of exoctic black anxd whitegranite called cosmos. we marked the stone to show where each piece would be placed= one tiny seam might be vivible- in a dark spot not really visible in a corner. of the room. We were OK with this. the installer arrived late morning. Barely spoke any word of english. He changed the position of the slabs on the counters many times, He wa s installig from11.ooAM until 8.00 pm evening. NONE OF THE SEAMS MATCH_NOTHING! The ownersaid then I shoul d have bought another slab. HE HAS REFUSED TO COME AND SEE THE WORK SO POORLY DONE. NEVER USE TOP SURFACE, tHEY ARE NOT HONEST OR SKILLED AND RUINED A BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF GRANITE BECAUSE OF LAZY AND CARELESS WORK AND WORKERS. They are dishonest and do not deliver what they promise and you pay for ( ahead of time) they do not take credit cards so there is no help there either. surface TOP sURFACE AGAIN.

I contracted with Top Surface to install Absolute Black Granite in my Kitchen. The stone came from PacificShores on Metropolitan in Austin. I recieved doctored stone. The stone is dyed black and reacts to acid leaving white spots and rings. This happened after a week and when I called the owner he denied any knowledge. When he came out to my house we tested the stone. When I asked for my money back and the stone removed he said to sue him. I also have made 4 appointment with Alan Morris regional manager of the Pacific shores and he has never showed up. This fraud has been going on for some time. The stone is dyed in India and sold to the consumer as absolute black granite. Many times the consumer is told they did something to the stone. I purchase a testing kit and tested the stone and the black dye came off. If you are thinking of granite go to the Marble Institue of Americas website or ask the company if they are a member of MIA.
