Richard Kozak the owner and president of RLK Construction is extremely unprofessional. Rich was hired by my general contractor to complete work on my covered patio and problems were apparent almost immediately. The initial problem was Rich instructed his foremen to let themselves into my backyard with no call ahead of time and no knock on the door. His foreman was polite but it is still unacceptable to open a gate and enter someone?s backyard without notice The next problems involved delivery of materials - the delivery of rebar and dirt were both performed with no advanced warning and were followed by a truck driver demanding payment from me, the homeowner. I had to leave work early to come home and deal with these problems. In the 3 days they were on the job before being terminated, more below, they stated they would arrive at a given time and arrived 2 hours late both times. The third day they were scheduled to work, it was raining so they did not show up at all. I do not expect work to be done in the rain, however the professional thing to do is call the home owner and indicated that you will not be working today in lieu of the rain, but will continue work on given a date and time. Finally the required drain line for my Air Conditioner was not installed correctly per the plans and specifications. I reached out to my GC expressing my frustration with the service and quality of work. My GC stated he would get this squared away. On Sunday morning Rich Kozak personally called me and began a tirade of curses and insults. I was told I should just ?shut the F*** up? and ?stop F***ing complaining.? At this point I stated politely that Rich and his team were no longer welcome on my property or on my job ? to which I was threatened with legal action and more cursing. Needless to say my overall experience was extremely poor with ROK construction. Rich the owner is very unprofessional and rude and does not deserve your business. My GC was extremely embarrassed and apologetic, a new sub contracted has been hired to complete the work in a timely professional manner.
Description of Work: Rich was hired by my general contractor to frame the concrete forms, pour a new concrete patio, and add a new 34’x14’ cover to my patio. Problems were apparent almost immediately.

Overall, my experience with this contractor was horrible. This contract was fired after putting in only about 30 hours max on this job for multiple reasons including substandard work, incomplete/unsatisfactory performance of service per terms, unavailability of this contract to perform services during normal business hours, unauthorized removal of home-owner purchased materials, damage to home and contents, non professional manner and work habits. The contractor started the work on Monday, January 2nd, 2012. For several nights, the contractor and his employees were only available to work after normal business hours, starting around 5pm and working to no later than 8pm. After homeowner, complained about these working hours, contractor agreed to work on Saturday during the day but not before demanding full payment Friday evening on the CABINET REMOVAL, NEW ELECTRICAL LABOR AND MATERIAL work order even though not all work had been completed on this work order. I refused to make any further payment until work was completed as per terms even after being threatened with a "lien" on my home. Please note that at this time, the contractor had already received 70% of the total amount due for all services. After working about 5 hours on Saturday, Mr. Kozak again demanded full payment for the CABINET REMOVAL, NEW ELECTRICAL LABOR AND MATERIAL work order even though again 1.) all work per this work order was not complete and 2.) there were clearly issues with the work performed to date which were communicated to Mr. Kozak. After being refused further payment, RLK Contracting (Mr. Kozak and his employee) walked off the job without notice leaving my home in a dirty, trash filled state which I had then had to work hours to clean up. Work that was not completed included not replacing two, but only one sheet of T-111 paneling, not securing the 10.4 cable in attic properly, not reinstalling the two wall cabinet boxes on sink basin wall, not installing a quarter turn shut off, not removing entire sink basin cabinet, only installing one not two security lights, not properly reinstalling the dishwasher, and not insulating the wall cavity. Further, work that was not performed correctly or in a quality manner included the tile work performed on Saturday, the GFI's were not completely installed, and the cabinet doors were ruined by the sanding work that was done. In addition to the sub-standard work performed, this contractor exhibited a non-professional work manner by littering my driveway and yard with cigarette butts and other debris plus removing homeowner purchased materials from the work site without authorization. Also, my new stainless steel refrigerator has a nice new dent in it. Finally, apparently "lost" are my stainless steel electrical switch plates valued at approximately $70. Finally, after further inspection in the attic, approximately 50 feet of new electrical line was found that looked to be installed but was actually not connected to anything. I took over 140 pictures documenting the work that was completed each day of which only a small sample are included with this review.
Description of Work: RLK contracting (Richard (Rich) Kozak was contracted to remove an existing ceramic tile backsplash and replace with a glass tile backsplash in the kitchen. Additionally, the kitchen cabinets were to be sanded down to "look like new" and repainted. After work started on the demo of the existing backsplash, Mr Kovak and his assistant Joel stated that some bad electrical wiring was found in the wet wall behind the kitchen sink that needed to be replaced. Therefore, he proposed a second work order for CABINET REMOVAL , NEW ELECTRICAL LABOR AND MATERIAL. This work involved removing the pea trap from the kitchen sink, removing hot and cold water supplies from kitchen sink and dishwasher, replace hot and cold water supply valves and replace with quarter turn shut off, remove electrical line from garbage disposal, removing countertop, removing two wall units off sink basin wall, removing entire sink basin and removing and replacing two sheets of T-111 paneling. The electrical work was proposed to replace 300 lineal ft of 10.4 cable, adding five sealed steel junction boxes with covers in attic, adding four new GFI breakers in kitchen, adding two security lights in front of garage, securing 10.4 cable in attic, and reinstalling two wall cabinets on sink basin wall, reinstalling dishwasher, caulking cabinet crease in wall units to pre existing exterior wet sink basin wall, reinstalling the countertop and reinstalling the kitchen sink.

From start to finish, Rich and RLK Contracting was on time, professional, and went the extra mile to ensure that we were satisfied with the work at all times. He quickly and accurately assessed the work required and clearly communicated all aspects of the work while we walked through. For instance, in the bathroom vents, he explained the various placements of the vents and why he would recommend different more efficient placements. He also explained how money could be saved by venting through the eaves of the roof as opposed to a costly hole through the roof. Rich went the extra mile and upgraded those vents to self sealing vents that close when not in operation, thereby keeping pests and drafts out. Rich was also very conscientious of subtle details, such as searching through the paint left by the previous owners to find matching paint for repairs, and bringing to my attention other areas of work that needed attention, such as the loose wiring not in boxes in the attic that our home inspector didn't notice. He was able to get all this work done on a very aggressive timeline and maintained a positive can do attitude even when the vent hood that we had ordered was delayed. All the work was impeccable and the work area was cleaned up very thoroughly when the work was complete. He always leaves everything better than he found it and communicates clearly though out the entire process. I would recommend RLK Contracting to anyone needing any kind of renovation or construction work. Rich does things the right way, on time, for a fair price. I will be calling RLK Contracting the next time I need work done around the house, and will feel good knowing that I will be in good hands.
Description of Work: We just bought a new house that had a beautiful professional grade range in an island with no ventilation. Also, the bathrooms were missing any ventilation after a previous remodel. We were having a new HVAC put in along with enough insulation in the attic to bring it up to recommended R30. We were trying to have all this work done before we moved in, so timing was critical. We called in an electrician to bid the work and he refused the job because of the necessity of cutting through the roof. We called some roofers for estimates and RLK Contracting had the best bid and was able to supply their own licensed electrician.
