Overall, my experience with this contractor was horrible. This contract was fired after putting in only about 30 hours max on this job for multiple reasons including substandard work, incomplete/unsatisfactory performance of service per terms, unavailability of this contract to perform services during normal business hours, unauthorized removal of home-owner purchased materials, damage to home and contents, non professional manner and work habits. The contractor started the work on Monday, January 2nd, 2012. For several nights, the contractor and his employees were only available to work after normal business hours, starting around 5pm and working to no later than 8pm. After homeowner, complained about these working hours, contractor agreed to work on Saturday during the day but not before demanding full payment Friday evening on the CABINET REMOVAL, NEW ELECTRICAL LABOR AND MATERIAL work order even though not all work had been completed on this work order. I refused to make any further payment until work was completed as per terms even after being threatened with a "lien" on my home. Please note that at this time, the contractor had already received 70% of the total amount due for all services. After working about 5 hours on Saturday, Mr. Kozak again demanded full payment for the CABINET REMOVAL, NEW ELECTRICAL LABOR AND MATERIAL work order even though again 1.) all work per this work order was not complete and 2.) there were clearly issues with the work performed to date which were communicated to Mr. Kozak. After being refused further payment, RLK Contracting (Mr. Kozak and his employee) walked off the job without notice leaving my home in a dirty, trash filled state which I had then had to work hours to clean up.
Work that was not completed included not replacing two, but only one sheet of T-111 paneling, not securing the 10.4 cable in attic properly, not reinstalling the two wall cabinet boxes on sink basin wall, not installing a quarter turn shut off, not removing entire sink basin cabinet, only installing one not two security lights, not properly reinstalling the dishwasher, and not insulating the wall cavity. Further, work that was not performed correctly or in a quality manner included the tile work performed on Saturday, the GFI's were not completely installed, and the cabinet doors were ruined by the sanding work that was done. In addition to the sub-standard work performed, this contractor exhibited a non-professional work manner by littering my driveway and yard with cigarette butts and other debris plus removing homeowner purchased materials from the work site without authorization. Also, my new stainless steel refrigerator has a nice new dent in it. Finally, apparently "lost" are my stainless steel electrical switch plates valued at approximately $70. Finally, after further inspection in the attic, approximately 50 feet of new electrical line was found that looked to be installed but was actually not connected to anything.
I took over 140 pictures documenting the work that was completed each day of which only a small sample are included with this review.
