This is an update to previous report. I am an attorney. Today I received notice that, in addition to all of the above outrageous behavior, the owner of this shop attempted to file a grievance against me with the State Bar of Texas. His ranting misspelled complaint was dismissed out of hand, but I reiterate my caution about having anything to do with this person or this place.

This business and its owner have been the worst service experience I have ever encountered. Took in two pieces for repair, first one OK. Second one was stripped of expensive antique finish rather than retouched as requested, then stained orange, finally an acceptable color but cushions were lost. Greg threatened to declare piece abandoned if I didn't pick it up without cushions. When I finally agreed to do so, he said I could not have it at all---sue him. I am. UPDATE: Unbelievably bad. This is an update on an earlier review, posted around December 4, 2013. My husband and I went to retrieve our chaise lounge, taking a check for the full price Greg asked (even though the work was wrong and the cushions lost) just to get our experience with this crackpot behind us. We went peacefully into the shop, laid the check on Greg's slovenly desk, and picked up the chaise to leave. Greg started shouting "No, no!" He launched himself onto the chaise, breaking it in two and causing what later turned out to be a fracture to my left wrist, which will require surgery. He sat there grinning and posing on the remains of the chaise while I photographed it with my phone. We had to leave without even recovering what was left of our chaise. Then, outrageously, Greg sued ME in small claims court for more than $3000 for "Failed [sic] to pay storage." I am now having to defend and prosecute a lawsuit with this whackadoo for screwing up my furniture and keeping it in a few square feet of his rat hole place of business while he did so.

Description of Work: We had a chair repaired. The work that was done was satifactory. The problem was when my husband went to pay for the work. Gregory would not get off the phone while the transaction was taking place. His office was filithy. He said my husband's debit card was not taking. So my husband tried a 2nd card. Again he said it would not take. My husband then had to pay with cash. Later we discovered both cards had indeed gone thru and deductions were made from our accounts. Then I called Gregory and advised him of the problem. He claimed his machine was acting up. Instead of crediting our account another dection was made. He did crdit that account once but not for the second time. I did contact him again and told him of the second card but he did not credit that account. I later tried to contact him again but he did not return my call.

It took the two weeks originally estimated to complete, which I felt was a little long. The repair was sturdy, though the stain used on the support was not a great match. Also, it would have been nice if they'd cleaned the unit, as it came back just as dusty (and with added work debris). I also felt the price was a bit high for the work done.
Description of Work: Repaired the cubby shelving for a rolltop desk. Stapled the sections together, screwed to the back, and installed a stain-matched support to help keep the shelves from falling off the back again.

Arrived on time. Spent time in analyzing and cost estimation. Had work completed on time.
Description of Work: Excellent repair work on coffee table that had been glued in assembly rather than assembled with screws. High end coffee table that cost more than $700 that I really wanted to save. Greg did the work promptly and at half the estimated cost for the repair. He was able to save the bottom shelf which we initially thought would have to be replaced. Table is in much better condition that when purchased a year ago.

I brought the table and rocker to the shop, and I was given an estimate right away. I was also shown around the shop to see some other pieces that were being worked on. About a week or two later I was called when the pieces had been repaired and stripped. I had brough a sample stain, but it was a different type of wood. Patiently one of the workers tied about 3 different stains on the table, and about 5 on the rocker. He said I could think about my choice overnight. He also said I could request to be called after the first coat of stain had been applied. Then I could say if I wanted it lighter or darker. I called them the next day with my choice. Leah called to say the pieces were ready about a week later, but I had just moved and had trouble finding time to pick them up. She called back a few days later, and when I asked her about delivery, she said it would be easy to do. She told me about the delivery fee, and she said she could deliver it the next day at a specific time. She arrived right on time, and I was astounded by how wonderful the pieces looked and how well they had been repaired. The Restoration Shop exceeded my expectations.

A white oak wardrobe was damaged in an overseas move, one supporting leg ripped off and the attached supporting beam damaged. They created a new leg to match the other, and unless you looked closely, you could not tell it had been repaired. Customer Service was outstanding, and we thought the price was fair for a custom job (though have no previous experience with such matters).
Description of Work: oak wardrobe had severely damaged leg and supporting post, custom pieces made and it's now difficult to tell it had ever been damaged.

Found this business on Angie's list and decided based upon the recommendations to give them a call. They told me to bring the furniture over any time, gave me the business hours and the location. It's behind Karavel Shoes. Took the table and the chair over and he gave an estimate $250.00 for the table and that was the final cost. Indicated that he would need to check with someone about the upholstery on the chair before giving us a cost. We asked that he go ahead and try to repair the chair and if he needed additional upholstery to give us a call. Both items were ready before he thought they would be. Picked them up and were delighted!
Description of Work: Refinished a sewing table that my parents received as a wedding gift in 1939. The top had numerous water marks, there were scratches on the legs and on the drawers. They expressed their admiration for the design of the table and seemed to understand how precious it was to me. When I saw the finished product, I told them that my Mother would have been so happy at the quality of their work. Repaired a Scandinavian dining room chair with arms. One arm was shattered and back of chair split at the arm. My husband was unsure if it could even be repaired as it was necessary to remove the back of the chair, keep the upholstery intact and attach the arm. You would never know that there had been an accident with this chair. Looks like new.

It took only a day to complete the work, which was greatly appreciated. They were careful with the wood and the work, though there was some minor excess glue that had to be cleaned up after I got them home. The work was good, though the price was a bit higher than I expected. I think that's mostly because I am out of the loop on craftsman wages, though!
Description of Work: I had 3 formal chairs with the backs loose. When I called, the manager was professional and brisk, and was able to work me in very quickly. I told them when I dropped them off that we had gotten them in Australia, that they were made out of a special hardwood, and to be careful with them.

Our housekeeper put an aromatherapy wall-outlet deodorizer down on the wood finish of a brand-new bedside table. The finish was eaten off by the spilled liquid all the way to the wood. Donald Hilliard, at Restoration Shop, was available immediately to do the repair. We took the table on Saturday and today, Thursday, the table was returned before noon. It is perfect. You can not tell that anything was ever spilled on the table. Service was fast and impeccable. Price was excellent. Donald was a total professional in phone conversations, in person, and in delivery. I cannot recommend these people too highly. I would use them again in a milli-second.

I am delighted with the refinished piece. The shop completed the work as promised for the agreed upon price. It was a pleasure to do business with them.
Description of Work: Restoration Shop stripped and refinished a 100 year old secretary that required extensive work. The secretary is constructed from two different woods, so careful use of stains was required to match them in the refinished piece. The craftsmen at Restoration Shop did a beautiful job. I chose Restoration Shop because they did good work for me in the past. A few years ago they successfully repaired a broken metal piece on an Eames-type chair for me, after other repair shops said it couldn't be done. I did not ask anyone else to bid on refinishing my secretary, because the price quoted by Restoration Shop seemed fair to me and I had been well pleased with their work in the past.
