Resolution Gardens

I had the best experience with Resolution Gardens! They were all extremely friendly, knowledgeable and professional. I'm extremely happy with my new garden beds, and was blown away with the unique, artists landscaping! I'll definitely be hiring them for future jobs and recommending them to all my friends and family. Thank you, everyone! :)

We have not had a good experience with Resolution Gardens. Half way into the project we realized that it was going to be challenge getting the work completed and performed correctly. Their worker resources were inconsistent in their availability and overall skillsets were below average causing the project to delay over 8 weeks. Project management struggled with providing best practices and ownership was overall unprofessional. A few example issues we experienced in addition to their unreliability....a large amount of rock overspill was not removed from the sod area which they refused to pickup, our driveway was damaged without repair or credit settlement and it took 3 attempts to properly fix a stone installation without using a poor caulking workaround. What i can say is that they tried to make things right at times and do the right thing but when you don't have the right experience to run a business, it's like fighting a losing battle. Cutting the chord in the middle of a project is usually never good but I regret not parting ways sooner. Obviously I do not recommend working with Resolution Gardens.

Randy was wonderful. I had brought a deal from Angie's list and became sick before I could utilize it. Randy was so gracious and came out quickly and honored my deal. He took pictures of my home and gave me fantastic drawings and suggestions of possible projects. He was so professional and I highly recommend him.

Poor quality work was done. Yard prep was done poorly and left lumpy. Yard was measured by guesswork leaving us short of enough sod to replicate our yard. It was suggested that if we bought an additional 1/2 pallet of Sod for $150 the job could be completed the way we expected. Installation left large gaps that are hazardous to walk on. (the adults in our household are in their 70's and 90's and in peril of falling on these ruts and lumps). Randy has been non-responsive to our concerns actually shifting the blame to us. Randy has avoided personal follow up and has been defensive to honest feedback. He advised us that he will not help if we are not nicer to him. He suggested we pay someone else to fix it. He sent the person that did the work originally to evaluate it rather than make the effort to see the poor work quality himself. Working with this company and it's leadership is a nightmare. Never again!

I wrote a review in August of 2017 saying that several issues we had with our work were not completed as we had asked, but since that time we reached a satisfactory solution with Resolution Gardens and the work is completed. I was not able to change my prior review so I am amending it with this review.

Randy is very relaxed and offered cheaper ways and working in stages to make the work more affordable.

Haven’t decided how much of plan to implement

It did take a while, I believe due to their very busy schedule, but we were not in a hurry to have the project completed so that wasn't really a problem for us. They did great work, picked out plants and rocks based on our desire to have a very low maintenance space. The various areas of the yard have a great flow and texture to them.

I was pleased with the gentleman that arrived and his suggestions on the design for the landscaping. We discussed several possibilities and he recently provided an estimate for the work. I am currently making a decision on whether or not I will scale back the effort and do it in stages or not. I will definitely use this service and this professional. I will have an additional review once the work is completed.

It went well - we should have spent more time on materials selection - the hardscape they chose did not fit in our yard aesthetically but it was good workmanship

I liked the ideas and will use some of them.

People were nice, communication/service was not. The "bid" was for 3 workers for 2 days. We never had 3 workers together; 1 or 2 came sporadically. A list of preferable plants had been given to Randy; seemed clear that the manager never saw the list. Nothing was put down as a barrier for weeds and now there are weeds everywhere in the beds. The mulch was so thin that it mostly washed away with the first rain. The bid also included irrigation but that person never showed up. Much of the problem was that they only had a small pickup, so much time was lost in transit hauling to and from. They just don't seem to have the people and equipment needed.

It didn’t go very well. Well, we paid the $49; they came over. Then they an estimate for doing landscape work for us. Okay. And so, we drew up a contract for something like $3,000 for them to do landscape work. And then it went screwy. The $49 was for them to come and make a recommendation as far as a landscaping plan. So that they did. Then we paid them to implement their landscaping plan. From our perspective it didn’t go well. They put in plants that weren’t deer proof. So, the deer had a field day and ate a bunch of the plants. Also, the pictures they drew for us of what they were going to put in were of large plants and what they planted were tiny little immature plants. So, it’ll take years for these 10-inch or 12-inch high plants to get to be the size they said. We also wanted a walk way put into the side of our home and without showing us the samples of the types of rocks to be used they just went and picked up rock and put it down. It wasn’t at all what we wanted so we had to pick it up and take it back to the place they had picked it up from. Then we picked out our own stone and found someone else to install it. We have been going back and forth with them. We paid them $2500. They bought that stone for $1000. So basically, we paid them $1500 for the work they did. And I feel that it’s satisfactory for the work they did. Randy is the owner of the company. He came out and did the estimate, but we never saw him again. Which I also felt was a little screwy. He picked out the stone himself. The stone didn’t match our home at all, it was gray stone. And what we wanted was a more, something closer to matching our Mexican style home. So, they charged us for the labor for picking up the stone and laying it down. And we said that wasn’t what we want. Then they broke a pipe and then they charged me a day and half of labor to fixing the pipe. But they broke it. So, things like that didn’t seem to be totally in agreement. I don’t want to give them too low a rating.

Started out great, Randy, a very nice young man, came out to talk to us about the job, he listened to what we wanted and got back to us with drawings that we really liked. I would give Randy A+, but we did not see Randy again, he did not come by or call to see how the job was going. The young men that was sent out to do the work were very pleasant, but they did not know how to do the work, they got very little done for the number of people and hours they were at our house. I think the project manager had more to do than she could handle. No one was going by the plan that Randy did. The project manager told me that I was going to have to accept the work the way it is, that is when we decided to stop the job and find someone else to do the work.

Great! The design of the project and subsequent landscaping changes have remedied our drainage problem. We are extremely happy! Randy was very responsive, very knowledgeable and very professional. He went over his plan in detail, explained it clearly to us, and gave us the total cost. The only issue we had was that the landscaping team showed up once when we weren't home and had not called to say they were coming.

First, I purchased the $49 Professional Landscaping Design Plan. Randy provided very basic scribbles for what we had in mind and I received a reasonable estimate to do the work. However, on the days the work was to be performed, several more people than were budgeted for showed up and the scope of work changed based on seemingly small suggestions made by both parties. Given the original estimate and some verbal cost discussions, I wrongly assumed it would be at the same hourly rates for a few additional hours of work. I was shocked to receive a final bill that was twice the original estimate, which I take partial responsibility for. (Hard Lesson #1 - get any changes in writing before the work is performed.) I can say that Randy is knowledgeable about native species and he and his hard-working crew is a pleasure to work with, apart from the bill dispute. Additionally, the fill dirt that Resolution brought in must’ve been full of evil nutsedge and other weeds which my xeriscaping and planter boxes are now completed infested with. Lastly, the spacing between some of the new plants should've been more thought through as they are unevenly grouped or placed too close, growing into one another, when other areas in the yard are completely barren. As much as I like Randy as both an artist and person, I question his business acumen and won’t be using them again.

Although we were satisfied with the work, it took forever to get a proper invoice. They kept mis-adding items which had the wrong final price owed. After several emails and a phone call, an invoice with the correct final amount was sent, but still lacked all of the necessary itemization. The company over-purchased river stone, limestone pavers, and dirt and the foreman tried to make us keep the excess. Prior to digging post holes, they did not call utilities and as a result cut completely through the AT&T fiber which disconnected our internet connection. Surprisingly, none of the workers including the supervisor knew they needed to call before digging. Thank god it wasn't a gas line. Quality of some of the plants were not very good including a pomegranate tree that I believe will eventually die (charged $100 for this substandard tree), and even when notified of such, no action was taken by them to correct it. Left over dirt was dumped in one of my raised garden beds without asking first. I didn't mind the dirt being there, but they should ask before taking action and not assume its ok. Considering the $3500 price tag, I expected better plants, destruction of weeds prior to mulching (we have a ton of nutsedge growing through), and more care.

Went well. Super nice to deal with. Has great ideas. And very flexible. I plan on using RG for all my projects.

I paid far a "landscape plan" offered by Angie's List. I had a consultation with Randy, but did not receive a useable plan for my project.

The end results was nice in it's simplicity, but was not what I had envisioned or designed. There was a great deal of miscommunication between the different teams that came out during the process and I became the project manager, directing placement of plants and other areas of the project. A one week project took four weeks due to various issues on the part of the company. No one would show up for days with no communication on delays. After expressing my concerns with Randy, there has been no followup from him or any member of his company. Randy does have very hard working and respectful employees but they were at a disadvantage due to no clear direction.

I've been looking at an ugly area in front of my front porch for 5 years. I have no skills in landscaping and finally decided to consult with this company thru an Angie's List deal. Randy contacted me within a day of my purchase and we made arrangements for him to come look at my yard. I actually have a lot of issues in my back yard with drainage so he took his time and listened to me and then we walked around the whole yard while I pointed out areas I wanted/needed fixing. He took pictures and then went back and came up with several design ideas. We started with the front porch area and within a day he had it looking 1000x's better. I'm sure my neighbors are happy as well. He is about to come back and work on my back yard so I'm very excited to get that going. I highly recommend Randy and Resolution Gardens!

Randy was great to work with. I had ideas just didn't know how to get started. He did some rough drawings in photoshop and it was enough for me to get an idea of what my landscaping could look like. He gave us estimates based of a few of the drawings. They worked on two areas that needed immediate attention. I couldn't be happier.
