I hired John Wood for a complete kitchen and living room remodel to begin on November 2, 2011. I decided to use John after he had completed a master bathroom remodel successfully. The first stage of the kitchen remodel consisted of demoing the entire kitchen and entry flooring. The demo started off well, but soon fell apart when I discovered that the entryway floor was not level (about 1.5 inch below the adjoining floor). John was presented with 5 different options to level the floor and he picked the most expensive option which would cost me $500. John?s assistants used too much material and the floor came out too high and uneven. When I told John that the floor would need to be fixed again, he decided he would end our contract by sending me an email stating that he was done. I now had to pay another contractor to correct John?s mistake, and was never reimbursed the $500 I had paid John to level the floor. This left me with a demolished kitchen and living room and no general contractor. John suggested that I used an associate of his, Eric Friend, to complete the rest of the work which was already paid for. Eric had done some previous electrical work for me, so I agreed. Eric Friend did complete some of the work paid for, but failed to complete several tasks that were already paid for including installing interior door, interior pocket door, and completing the electrical work he had started. Eric was also impossible to reach and would not return my calls even though he was working on the home next door. When Eric would be on site, he would do short periods of work, then leave for a break and fail to return. At this point I contacted Eric and told him that I no longer was in need of his services, and I would just hire sub contractors myself.I ended up paying twice to have some tasks completed after John and Eric had failed to finish them. Some tasks include fixing the entryway floor and door to garage ($260), installing the pocket door ($200), fixing the ice maker water line ($75), fixing the dishwasher electric plug ($200). On top of the other issues, John?s original quote to do the backsplash was incorrect. His measurement was over double the actual square footage and his price per square foot was double what I ended up paying a local tiler. John Wood has since moved to San Antonio and has changed the name of his company to Rebuild San Antonio.
Description of Work: Demo kitchen and entryway, completed some electrical before he quit our job.

The overall job went smoothly even when setbacks happened. John is a great project manager. He has employees who do tear outs, tiling, & cleanup, and employs licensed contractors to do plumbing and electrical work.
Description of Work: Removed bathtub, built new shower, replaced walls, built new shower floor, tiled shower, installed plumbing, installed glass door, tiled floor, and installed toilets Since I wanted several kinds of jobs done, I needed someone who could coordinate all jobs with different kinds of contractors. It saved me lots of time to have his experience in selecting the contractors and assure the job was done correctly.
