The job went exactly as planned and I'm very happy with the work that Ray and his co-worker did. Steve has a wide range of handyman skills. There was one piece of the job that didn't come out exactly right and I updated Steve and he came out promptly to address the issue. All the jobs were completed as requested and I'm a happy customer. I would recommend you call Steve if you have handyman projects around your house.
Description of Work: I had various jobs around the house that needed done such as paver work in the drive-way, fixing ceiling lights, de-installing and reinstalling a range and dishwasher as part of a kitchen remodel. I had a door leveled and motion detection light installed.

The garbage disposal in our apartment was not working. So I found Steve Lee on Angie's List and called him to do the job. He arrived with two men and replaced the garbage disposal and charged me $100 in labor. Soon after, my tenant called me to let me know the dishwasher was not draining. So, thinking it was an issue with the pump, I called a plumbing company (also listed on Angie's List) and was told the plug to the dishwasher had not been opened when the garbage disposal was replaced. Hence the water was not draining. I tried to contact Steve Lee, but no response. Anyway, since the tenant needed to use the dishwasher I paid an additional $75 for a job that should have been done properly in the first place. Again I tried to contact Steve Lee, who has a voice mail, but where you can't leave a message. Anyway, after going back and forth several times I did reach him and told him about the problem. He acknowledged his mistake and offered to reimburse me for the botched job. I sent him my address along with the invoice from the plumbing company which said in detail the job they had to do. That was one month back and still no sign of the reimbursement check!!!!!!

It wasn't good. I actually had to take a day off of work after they were at my home to fix things. He over-priced on the estimate. He added day labors. It was shotty work. He wasn't very true to his word. It was not exceptional work. We had to pay to get things corrected. Anywhere they could cut a corner, they did. It was just not a good experience.
Description of Work: He built shelves. He added a storm window. He added a bathroom fan and added washer and dryer hook ups into the garage. He also added storage shelves.

I have several Trion 250 electronic air purifier consoles, which are now obsolete and for which few parts are available. When the motor on one unit suddenly ceased working -- these units are made to run continuously, 24/7 -- I consulted Angie's List and put in a call to Quality Handyman Services. Owner Steve Lee answered the phone and gave me hope that repair was at least a possibility. He made time to come himself and assess the situation, at my early convenience. Steve arrived on time and first confirmed the problem. He then disassembled the unit, examining each component with care. He soon enough discovered that a plastic-like bushing in proximity to the motor had disintegrated, probably due to age and, continuing his investigation, pulled the motor where he discovered fragments of the bushing had lodged amongst the ball bearings. Yipes! Knowing the replacement parts difficulty, he then carefully removed the offending fragments, lubricated thoroughly, and neatly reassembled the console. My electronic air cleaner immediately began working perfectly! I am thoroughly pleased, and the cost savings are especially appreciated.

It went very well. I initially contacted Steve late in the day on Friday, Dec. 26. I left a message; he called me back on Monday and quoted me a price of $100 to remove and install 5 new hard-wired smoke detectors. I set up an appt for the following Saturday even though he said he could come out that same day. (I was coming down with a cold and didn't have the energy to go buy the new detectors that same day.) Steve arrived promptly on Sat and completed the job in an hour: installed 4 smoke detectors and 1 combo smoke/carbon monoxide detector. A few days later I noticed that the green light wasn't glowing on the combo detector as it was on the other 4. I called the manufacturer and was told that this meant it wasn't getting electricity. So I called Steve back and told him this. He came to check it out on Saturday, Jan. 10. Again, he was prompt.....in fact, I was 15 minutes late, but I texted him and he was kind enough to wait for me. He checked out the combo detector and couldn't understand why it wasn't getting power. He guessed that it just wasn't compatible with the other 4, and said he would talk to someone at Home Depot, where I purchased the units, to see if they knew what was up. Meanwhile, I went and bought a new unit, one that was just a smoke detector, to replace the combo unit. (My house is all electric, no gas, so it wasn't extremely important that I have a carbon monoxide detector.) I texted Steve on Thursday, Jan. 15, to see if he could come switch out the unit, and he said he could come at 10 am on Saturday. Again, he showed up on time. Steve said he had gotten a suggestion from someone, and he wanted to try one more thing to see if he couldn't get the combo one to work. He did get it to work!! So I'm good to go now. All in all this took some back and forth and 3 visits to get it right, but Steve didn't charge extra and now all seems to be working. Steve is super nice. He was very excited to get the unit working correctly! And his promptness stands out. We all know that contractors have a reputation for not showing up on time, not showing up at all, and not calling. Steve was right on time all three trips, and responded to texts promptly.
Description of Work: Steve Lee replaced 5 hard-wired smoke detectors which were well over 10 yrs old and chirping at odd times.
When it rained hard, water would come in through the top of one of my windows under a roof over my side porch. I suspected it was a problem with the sealant on the flashing or something like that. Steve was very responsive and helpful. He came the same day I called and inspected the problem. He recommended the repair needed (replace cracked sealant on the windows above and below the roof over the porch) which I approved. He returned the next day and fixed the problem. The price was very reasoanble and the work was guaranteed. Later that very same day it rained and I had no water coming in.
Description of Work: Sealed windows to prevent water from coming in to house.
Summary: Floor was not fixed very well, and toilet occasionally makes loud noises (flapper seal issue?). The recessed lighting work is great. The communication was a bit flaky to start, and we had to wait 2-3 weeks to get work scheduled because they were so busy. After we agreed on the prices and job scope, he told me that the drywall and paint touch-up for the recessed lighting would be extra. I remembered that being part of the initial quote, so I had to call him on that, and he agreed. So when the work date came, they were on time and Steve was nice and cordial. They (2 of Steve's workers) got right to work. Unfortunately, I could not stay the entire time and supervise, so I couldn't tell them the floor wasn't sufficiently fixed. It still creaks, but not as bad as it once did. The floor area seems even more uneven. I just didn't get the impression that Steve was concerned about quality and keeping repeat business. In fact, we had a bunch more work that we were considering and he was to call back when he finished his backlog of work. He never called back. Like I said in the summary, the work done on the recessed lighting looks good.
Description of Work: Repair creaky subfloor. Fix running toilet (needed new flapper). Install 4 recessed lights.

Steve was very communicative and responsive via text scheduling the service. Our last communication was the day prior to the scheduled appointment. Again, Steve was very polite and responsive and confirmed. When the appointment time came, he was a no show. I text him twice to make sure he wasn't lost and have never heard from him again. With time one of my most precious resources and Steve rated so highly on Angie's list, I'm very disappointed and begs question as to the caliber of "A" rated providers.

I had scheduled with Steve Lee to do some repair work on my fence on 7/16/14 starting at 7am. He text me to reschedule for 7/18/14 at same time due to shorthanded crew. He and his crew never showed up. After repeated attempts to contact him via text and voice mail I was still unable to reach him. If there are personal or work issues, etc. to attend to that is understandable. Even if you're unable to do the work for some reason a phone call back is to be expected -- but to not respond to your customer at all after missing scheduled work is pretty darn unprofessional. **Update** Steve finally returned my calls and came back out to do the work. Half of it was done well. The other have was not done well. After me scheduling with him last week to fix work, him not showing up again, texting him twice and sending another message through email to see what's up.....I've heard nothing back. Unless this guy does what's right and corrects my fence, at the very least, my rating stands. In fact, I'm probably going to taking other measures to get my point across to this guy -- BBB, etc. Folks, use this guy at your own risk.

I was very impressed with the reviews and I reached out and left a message and I received a call late in the evening from Steve to schedule my appointment. He apologized for calling so late, but he had just gotten off work, but I greatly appreciated that he took the time to call me after a long day. We scheduled a visit for Saturday at 11am, and he never showed up. I called him at 11:30am and left a message and never received a call back. I was very disappointed.
Description of Work: Did not provide any services.
I became overwhelmed with the tasks involved to put a house on the market. My friends and I painted the interior of the house, but my friends bailed on me and I was left to put it back together, which is why I contacted the Quality Handyman. While I tried to do as much of the work myself, the list was just too long. (I still needed to paint doors and exterior siding, etc.) I was VERY, VERY pleased with the work performed. Steve, David, Chance, and "Onook" worked on my house and knocked this huge list out in a day & a half. The quality of the work was good, and the crew was friendly and helpful. (I had to borrow a screw driver at one point.) I plan to use them again.

I can not meet with everybody that calls me, as anyone who lives in Austin and the surrounding areas knows that this is a very overwhelming time for contractors. I do however try to call back every potential client to at least give the courtesy of a call back. I am sorry that [member name removed] feels that he is not the only client that calls me for a potential job. Regards to all. Steve Lee

Steve and his crew did an excellent job. I was very pleased with his timely response to my request for an estimate and how quickly the repairs were done. I would definitely hire Steve again.
Description of Work: We had a cedar tree that had been damaged by a storm and had been cut down part way. Steve and his crew sawed the trunk down to ground level and hauled it off along with a garden swing that had also been damaged. They also fixed our wooden gate by removing a broken fence post & installing two new ones in concrete. They re-installed gate panels so that we now have a working gate.

I did have a very good service from him with the project that I use him for. The project for the mailbox turned out to be really nice and it turned out great. His service was perfect because a lot of times it is hard to find someone to help me with a small project but he had no problems helping me. He is super friendly and helpful. Hopefully he will come out again and do our deck, he already gave a quote on that but we have not found time yet but it works for him. I called him and within that day he called me back which is very good of him.
Description of Work: I used the services of Quality Handyman Service. They did a mailbox repair for me. I also had this project that he helped me with. We had an old mailbox host and an old mailbox that we wanted to be changed to a post and we had bought a nice new metal mailbox and he helped me with that. I also had gutters that pulled away from the host and he helped repair that.

I found 3 contractors from Angie's List. Steve Lee is the only one who gave me a reasonable price. The other 2 quotes are 2 to 3 times higher than Steve's. Steve and David did a great job. They used less than 8 hours to finish the whole thing. Fast and high quality! I really appreciated.

Of all the contractors I contacted to bid this job, Steve was the only one who showed up the next day (most were a week out) and gave me a reasonable bid (some were as much as 3x Steve's bid). The job consisted of framing in a number of closets and doors, a set of interior french doors, removing a wall and adding a 12-foot beam in its place, and miscellaneous other items. Steve and David and Enoch are fun to work with. They showed up on time every day and took care of every item we discussed in a timely manner. Communication with Steve was easy throughout the project. I appreciate working with nice people who are fun to be around. As a woman, I also appreciate not being talked down to, patronized, or lectured. I will definitely use Quality Handyman Services again.

We are an interior design firm newly relocated to the Austin metro area. We thought Angie's List would be a great way to put together a team to work with us and our Clients. Steve met us at our Client in Westlake Hills and submitted a bid for the light remodel project. We forwarded the bid to our Client and received approval for the project and were good to go...never heard from Steve again. We are trying to build a solid reputation in our new market and relied heavily on the relationship we were developing with Steve to do that. We found someone else to perform the work and are about to start that renovation in the next week or so. It could have been devastating for our business if we weren't able to scramble another remodel expert to pick up this project. Steve is a very personable guy and we really liked him. We were excited to move forward on this project and hopefully many more. Needless to say, our first experience with Angie's List was a disaster and we almost failed out first project in this great new market. We attempted to contact him multiple times via email, phone and text. UPDATE 6/3/14 - We called and emailed Steve countless times to move forward and there was no reply. Period, end of story

Response from Quality Handyman Services
I never received a call or email for the project that I bid on to let me know that there was an approval for the project to move forward. I figured that the approval did not go through because of the many changes that were made from the original work order, which I did a new estimate whenever there were changes made to the original which takes time to put together. As for the second project that I had looked at for Brian I was not aware that they were looking for a design specialist under the handyman section of Angies list. I did go and take notes on what they thought that they wanted to do but they were not clear on what they wanted, they also wanted me to give them advice on putting in a stone pathway and built in planters along with an architectural water fall and basin. I told them that I am not a landscaper or design expert but a handyman and that if he had plans for what he wanted to do then I could probably help him out . Not wanting to bash a new business but I would think that for somebody that has great ideas would be able to connect with the proper experts to expedite a project before telling the client that they can do for them what was promised. In my 24 years of experience as a handyman I have learned one thing is that you can not please all the people all the time but you can please some of the people all of the time.

Excellent work. The fence might be more square than when new, and is definitely more solid.
Description of Work: They completely re-did approximately 80 feet of fence, setting new uprights in new concrete footers with new horizontal pieces for entire way, and reusing face boards for about 55 feet with new face boards for the remaining 25.
