The handyman that was sent by OnCall was FANTASTIC. I should have reviewed their work sooner, I apologize. When they arrived (gentleman and his wife), I was kind of surprised to see a husband & wife team, but they were amazing together and very efficient. People told me I was crazy to trust my cabinet pulls to an unknown handyman, because they are very difficult to line up, but they did a great job, and my kitchen looks fantastic!
Description of Work: Fixed gate, put hardware (pulls) on approximately 45 cabinets.

The work I need done is plumbing . I told the woman on phone I have a leaky shower and bathroom faucet. They sent someone out and he came on time and was nice but looked at it and didn't have the right tools so he had to go get them which took about an hour. When he looked at the work that needed to be done and he said he was surprised that they sent him out there because he typically doesn't do plumbing work. He told me it was a problem bigger than what he could do and that I would need a plumber. It was supposed to be within the perimeters of services they cover. He left after about 45 minutes and not two hours. I did hear him call the office and said he couldn't do it and when he put it back together he stripped the screw in the handle of the faucet and I witnessed that. He called owner while in my house and said he couldn't fix the plumbing issue. He told me the owner would call but I missed it and she left a message. I called her back and frustrated at this point because I just want the faucet fixed. I had a plumber out either that day or the next day. I emailed the owner again about being disappointed about him not have plumbing experience and that he damaged the handle. She emailed me back and lied a couple of times saying that when he got there it was the shower faucet that didn't work. I initially told the woman when I called what the problem was which was not what the owner was saying. He said that he was there longer than what he really was. When I overheard him on the phone he told her he was there for 45 minutes but then I when I to spoke her via email she acted like he had been there for over 2 hours which was false.
Description of Work: They were supposed to come out and do two hours of handyman service but didn't do anything.

Response from OnCall Home Services
Dear [removed member name]: It's always nice to hear from our customers and I'm very sorry that you are unhappy. We try our best to do a great job and make all our customers happy! When you called and set your appointment you were told by me up front that the coupon was for 2 hours of handyman service which did not include major plumbing. That this was a handyman service not a plumbing service. You said all you needed was a sink faucet changed out. When my handyman got there it was totally different and it was a major plumbing project, which he told you he could not do and you needed a plumber. The reason he did not have the tools is because he is not a plumber. I also told you that when he got there he could look at it and tell you if is was minor fix or if a plumber would be needed. I called several times to get you set up with a plumber with no response from you. I understand your upset and wanted to get a major plumbing job done for $89.00 but it clearly states on the coupon for minor plumbing only! I also think a F is very harsh considering that you admitted you needed a plumber and that you also receive a full refund from Angie's list. Again, sorry you were not happy with our service and we wish you well. Best Regards, OnCall Home Service Julie

It went fairly well. It took more time than I expected, though it was a problem door. OnCall rebuilt the area on either side of the door because the door had been planed way out of vertical alignment. There were some cracks along at least one corner of the door that was working its way up the wall and the adjacent window also had cracks working their way towards the door. So in addition to removing the old door, rebuilding its frame, putting in the new door jam and frame, and new lock, they patched and repaired the cracks, and re-textured the wall (between the window and the door) and around the door. They were knowledgeable about the door and the wall repair. They brought several things to my attention that I would not have caught regarding the door warranty, paint timing, etc. The wall looks great and the door works well. I did the final painting, so I took the door off the hinges and hinges off the door jam after they had finished to seal the wood. That was more problematic than I expected. It was very difficult to get the 3-inch screws out and back in. I had initially wanted to paint the door before the work was done, but after speaking with them decided to wait until after they did the work. They were nice enough to inform me that the door warranty would be voided if I didn't paint all six sides. It would have been more helpful if they would have either primed and painted the areas under the hinges and the door bottom, or recommended that I paint the edges and that part of the door jam while they were working on the rest of the job. Nonetheless, they were very personable, responsive, and did good work.
Description of Work: Replaced an exterior door.

I was pleased with the prompt response to my first call, and I was happy with the estimated cost. They gave me a few options on what materials to use. They worked quickly and did good work. My job wasn't a very big one, so they were able to come work a couple of hours after finishing the day's work at a nearby larger job for about three days. I was offered that option so that my porch cover work could begin right away.

My drywall needs were beyond the scope of the service provider. (Ceiling was too high & would require additional scaffolding for which insurance became an issue.) The provider was very nice, and extremely professional in handling this.
JohnN showed up very promptly at 8AM, and asked for the priority list. He checked out a leaking toilet and immediately found out the reason for leak, he advised us to get the parts while he works on the next one the list, changing kitchen faucet. By the time I got the parts for the toilet, he changed the kitchen faucet, that was about 30 mins. He fixed the toilet leak in 15-20 mins. Then we asked him to install new cabinet knobs, about 20 of them, he carefully marked for drilling holes and drilled them and installed knobs. For the rest of cabinets, we did not have enough knobs, so just drilled holes so we could install ourselves. He did drill couple of holes on the wrong side of the cabinet, otherwise I would given him "A" for quality. We ran out of time by then. He accomplished more than what I thought he could do and we saved a lot of money.
Description of Work: changed kitchen faucet, hooked up clothes hanger, installed cabinet knobs, fixed leaking toilet
Scheduling was easy, the provider noted an 8-9 am arrival window, arrived at 8 am sharp, and worked the 4 hours we had paid for, finishing the 3 main jobs that were priorities for us.
Description of Work: Installed curtain rods perfectly level in 3 rooms. Replaced a high end hanging light Completed a unique garage project that principally required woorworking skills

The deal is described as $149 for 4 hours of skilled labor, can be used for everything from minor plumbing to minor electric work. Their operating hours on Angie's List say 8-7 Monday-Friday, 10-4 Saturday and 12-4 Sunday. I called to schedule this company for the following tasks: doorbell doesn't work, outdoor electric sockets don't work, fix shower spigot in bathroom, install transition strips and a few other tasks. The person who answered the phone told me this company does none of these things and offered to come to my house and "check these things out", I don't need these things checked out. I need them fixed! They ONLY work Monday-Friday. When I asked the person on the phone what they actually do, she said they install ceiling fans, hang pictures, landscaping, etc. but none of what I needed done could they do. Even though Angie's List business description says this company does home repair, remodel, make-readies, the operator said that wouldn't be covered under this $149 handy man purchase. She offered the Angie's List phone number to get my money back.

They guy did a good job but they did use the 4 hours that we contracted for. Their work was great but we would like to have used them for the full 4 hours for the other things that we needed them to do. It required parts but because we didn't know how long the first job was going to take, we didn't have purchased the other things required.

Service provider was very nice and when I mentioned that I needed a door installation I was informed that it wouldn't be included in the handyman service cause that's a whole other service. So we both agreed that a refund is best since I can't get the service for what I need.
We were thrilled with the professionalism and amount of activities that were accomplished. The "honeydew :)" list was drastically reduced.
Description of Work: The provider performed a variety of activities to help achieve some outstanding goals: fixing bad drawers and cabinets, getting speaker mounts installed, hand rails installed, wall-mount speakers set up, blinds hung, and a couple of other items.

They were unable to schedule service for us until the 21st of November, but unfortunately, we had to have the issue fixed last week. I expect they were simply overloaded from "The Big Deal" - but in any event, we no longer have any need for this service. We did have to pay a bit more to get the issues handled. ($360 vs. $149.) I tried to call them early last week to see if they could get someone out, but they did not answer the phone or call me back.
We had purchased a big deal for the service, and it turned out great. It was money well spent, and the gentleman who was here did a really good job. There were no additional charges at all. He was very neat, very helpful, and did a great job. We bought the fans from Lowe's and their charge for installing them was $75 or $80 per fan, so this price was very good.
Description of Work: They installed 3 ceiling fans, two fluorescent light fixtures, and looked at a couple of other things and gave us some advise on it.

It was a good experience from the first contact through the job completion. I purchased an Angie's List coupon for four hours of handyman service. The work was scheduled for just a few days after I contacted OnCall. The handyman arrived on time and performed the work very well. The faucet and new caulk look great He actually finished with time to spare. I just didn't have a hit list of other things to do, or he would have tackled them too.

We had trouble getting in contact with the company and we were finally able to contact them they let us know they were not able to do the work we needed as it was over 8 feet high. I purchased a services package from Angie's List for $1499. I received no services or goods to date for such payment. Providing a quote and an incomplete list of materials is not providing services or goods in return for the $1,500 paid to Angie' s. I was not provided with sufficient information about Angie's List's role, or OnCall Home Services' role in this transaction to have any meaningful ability to know when to cancel. Notwithstanding this, I did advise Angie's List personally , in July, that I wanted a refund. Finally, on or about November 20, I have received a refund. I need to add that I would not use this provider again because of location, not quality of work. As they did no work, I cannot judge it. Will also add that their representative, Julie, was always polite and helpful.
Description of Work: Trent Struck spent possibly 3 to 4 hours on site, selected a project and measured an outside small deck and stairs. He emailed me a list of materials needed. I emailed him asking for further clarification of the list. No answer. I took the list to HomeDepot. The clerk needed more info about sizes, substitutions, type of screws. I emailed Trent for informatio. No answer.

We thought that OnCall was the contractor, but it is the clearing house for other contractors who don't have enough of their own business. The handyman said he got less than half the hourly charge ($50 plus service call fee) by OnCall for his labor. A significant amount of the labor was redoing mistakes. He installed brackets backwards so the metal baskets couldn't be inserted. Then he installed the brackets so that the baskets couldn't be inserted because there wasn't room. So the brackets had to be installed three times in order to get them right. He mis-measured the other shelf and put it so high over the washer I couldn't reach anything, so he had to redo that one, too. After they left, I found cigarette butts in the driveway where they parked when they arrived early. I know the butts were theirs because they smelled of cigarettes when they came in and I have not had butts in my driveway before or since.

The rep came on time. Due to miscommunication, he initially came without the tools needed so he could only do the drywall part. We rescheduled for him to come back and finish up the baseboard fix. There was an end of carpet that needed to be tacked down but they don't do carpet work so I had to call someone separately for carpet. That was clear when I called initially to setup the appointment so no surprises there.
Description of Work: Patch drywall in 2 locations, cut and replace baseboard.
Pretty good overall. The handyman was very knowledgeable across the board. Spent a number of years as a general contractor so he really could do most everything. He was able to make recommendations on tiling and other jobs not on our list. Really easy to work with. Seemed like a lot of breaks and a bit of a 'take you time' mentality. But honestly other than that we were really happy with his work.
Description of Work: Various small jobs. Caulking and flashing on the roof. Small repair of insulation around ducting. Painting. Filled a hole in ceiling with sheet rock.

This is a rip off company. They came with no supplies then after looking at my door, took pretty much the whole 3 hours to go shopping at Home Depot. I got the impression this OnCall Home Services is an individual who is subcontracting with other individuals. They were supposed to call back to do additional work but I never heard back from them again.
