It was average. It was a simple matter to do and I just didn’t have time to do it myself. There was no technical knowledge involved. It was acceptable and it was not great.
Description of Work: I used OnCall Home Services. I had two coupons for three hours but I only used one. The person put in weather stripping, electrical outlet and put in insulation, there was no electrical work involved.

He was supposed to do two of them but did only one. Though the company was told that one of the fixture is along a staircase he did not bring a ladder for stairs with him. He left in the the middle of the job for an hour to go get the ladder . The ladder he got was not stable enough and he didn't complete the job

Dear [member name removed] I'm really sorry that your not satisfied with the job we did. Our handymen get a brief descripton of the job they will be doing. If it's not expalined correctly there can be a miscommunication going on. When he got there part of your job was out of the scope the coupon. Your light was to tall (Which can take special equipment) plus two people were needed. Sorry about any inconvenience and we do try hard to make our customers happy. We like to get input form our customers so we can make changes in the future. There is always room for improvement. Again sorry about the inconvenience and I hope if you need anything in the future you will give us the opportunity to work with you again. Best Regards! OnCall Home Service

Jason from OnCall emailed ahead of my appointment asking for photos of the siding so he could prepare for the repair. He arrived on time and was friendly, capable and a total pro. It turned out to be a much simpler fix than I expected -- he reattached the siding, improvising a bit with some screws since the original attachment clips were damaged. The repair took him less than 15 minutes so he filled out some of the time I had paid for with a walkaround of my house to check the condition of the rest of the siding and talk about some repairs and modifications I have planned for the future. It was an all-around good experience. Thanks!

John showed up on time and was very easy to get along with. They were not the easiest fixtures to install and replace, but he did a thorough job and I am very pleased with how they turned out. He also helped clean up after he was finished. I would definitely use him and OnCall again for future projects.

First, let me say that OnCall did a fabulous job on the bathroom. It surpassed our expectations. Their work brought our bathroom up to modern standards. Everybody on the team was very courteous and helpful. Here are the details: I contacted in mid April to get a bid on the work. Beau DeLozier called me back the same day and made an appointment the same week. We discussed what I wanted and the real need to replace the adjacent walls surrounding the tub (with new tile) to prevent leakage. The sink was very old and manufactures no longer carry that size so finding a sink to fit in the existing (tile) countertop was very difficult. I found a sink at Fergusons, but too much of the existing countertop was damaged trying to remove the old sink so it was not usable. We had to settle for a new granite countertop instead. Because the countertop was a different height, it did not align with the older tile on our wall and we had to deviate from the bid and replace the old tile on the wall with the same tile we used around the tub. In retrospect, this looks a lot better than the original plan to just to replace the tile around the tub, but added and additional $2500 to the bid. In the original bathroom, we had had linoleum. Rather than replace it with the same material again, we opted for a Roman style black and white tile. Again, word to the wise; check multiple sources for material. ProSource wanted $10/sq ft for the very same tile I found at HomeDepot on sale for $1.79. If we has stuck with ProSource for all of the material, our costs would have been considerably more expensive. The work was completed on August 4th after starting work on June 1st. I'm not sure this is average, but it was longer than I had expected the job to take. The Bathroom looks great, but there are a number of things that OnCall could do better. (1) Improve the communications between various members. The Project Manager for project left to go out of town the week we were going to start the project and no one knew what was supposed to be done that day. I canceled the work that week because of the confusion. There were days when I was not at the house and crew manager showed up unexpected. If he had called, I would have made plans to be there. (2) Do a better job of communicating changes in cost creep. It would be ideal to have one Estimate that changed every time there was a change in scope. The options provided in Estimate is great to see the differences, in cost, but a single estimate after the decision is made with particular options is easier for the homeowner to understand the ultimate price tag. (3) Great work by the coordinator (Julie). The project might has stretched out another month if not for her diligence in rounding up the workforce. (4) Estimating the amount of materials needed for the jobs needs improvement. We were short on the amount of tile needed and I ended up having to order more. That set the schedule back 10 days. (5) There needs to be a quality control person overseeing the work. There were a number of blemishes that I found in the initial tile work that were fixed immediately once I brought it to the foreman's attention, but I would have expected a greater level of scrutiny by the OnCall staff before I examined the work.
Description of Work: We live in a home built in 1962 and the tub and sink in one of the bathrooms needed to be replaced due to age. After soliciting a number of bids, we settled on OnCall Home Services. As it turned out, it was no simple task to replace just the tub and sink and through a number of structural roadblocks, we ultimately remodeled the entire bathroom. The tub, associated plumbing, adjacent walls, sink, countertop, wall tile and floor tile were all replaced. Dos: (1) OnCall relies on the customer to supply most of the materials (tub, sink, tile, flooring). They suggest vendors to go to for product, but it was my experience you should shop around. ProSource marked up their product quite a bit more than HomeDepot. It was too late before I discovered that fact. (2) Be prepared to run into roadblocks that drive up the price. Our existing countertop would not support a new sink and we ended up having to replace the countertop as well (added an additional $1000) to the cost. (3) Do ask for a revised Estimate once you find your project has deviated from the plan. Dont's: (1) Don't expect OHS to provide guidance on design ideas. They look to you to have a design in mind. Creativity is your job. (2) Don't expect everything to go according to plan.

For those interested in a brief review, Another great job from OnCall Services from start to finish. They're two for two in my book. :) Details go like this: The ONLY thing that was not absolutely perfect was the timing, but in the end it worked out great. I had scheduled for early afternoon, so it was less than ideal when the phone rang at a little after 8 after about 4 hours sleep. John explained his morning appointment had cancelled at the last minute and asked if he could come over and get an early start. I told him that'd be fine and he said he would try to be there by 9. Time for coffee... He rang the doorbell at exactly 9:00 (How'd he do that? On Mopac?!? Wow!!!), introduced himself and got to work. There were three holes the plumber had to cut when plumbing leaks were located and repaired - one behind the washer in the garage, one behind the refrigerator and one in the corner of the living room. The garage was a bit tricksy dodging the W/D connections and some shelf brackets. The living room was a bit more straightforward, but behind the frig brought a challenge. Seems some of the plumbing repairs were leaning forward just enough so he couldn't get the drywall patch to lay flat. I called the plumber that did the work (Sean Wagner @ Economy Plumbing) and left a message asking him to call. Sean called me back in less than a minute (Wow! Thanks, Sean! Your awesomeness continues!). After Sean and John talked, John was able to safely shift the plumbing bits enough so the dark is now back inside that wall where it belongs. My A/C man advised me in the past that my A/C would be happier with more air flow. Silly me, I thought about doing it myself. Bought the suggested size vent and that's as far as I got with it. When I asked John if he would be able to install the vent too, his answer was "Sure, no problem. Where do you want it?" And it became reality within mere minutes. That left the whole afternoon to clean the carpet and move furniture back in place needed due to the plumbing leaks that started all my recent adventures in home repair. Now my living room is looking more like my living room again. Life is good. What's not to love about any of that? Note on cost of service: Includes $99 coupon and $28 for supplies. SUCH a deal! :) Great job by great people. Call them. You'll be glad you did.
Description of Work: Called for repair to three drywall holes with a coupon for 3 hours drywall repair work and he was also able to install an additional return air vent.

Dear [member name removed] Family! We are very sorry about any inconvenience that we have caused. We like our customers to be happy! You scheduled two appointments with us. One was for 3 hours of door maintenance to replace weather striping and the other was for door refinishing. These are two different jobs with two different people. First we had to get the maintenance done before we could refinish your door. Our handyman schedule was very full and it took a little time to get it scheduled. (This time of year is very busy) We do inform our customers, and the coupons also states we provide the labor you provide the materials. We can go to the store for you but it is billed towards the hours you have purchased. (We perform so many different job in one day there is no way we could have all materials on hand) Our handymen get a brief description of the job(So the info they get is what the customer provides us) He got there and it was not for replacing weathering striping it was to replace the door sweep and he got it done in the three hours plus went to the store for you to get materials. (Material cost are not provided in the purchase you made!) That left the door refinish. Yes sadly to say we did have a scheduling issue. We have been moving our office and have had trouble with computer and internet, but we do try our best for mistakes not to be made. It always makes me sad when something like this happens and all I can do is apologize and try and make it right. I had you scheduled for Wednesday and the refinish man had you scheduled for Thursday. So that's where the mistake was made and I did the best I could to make things right. Then on Thursday morning the humidity and fog was so bad that there was no way to stain a door in that weather. I would never set up right it would turn white and milky! I offered to reschedule for Saturday but you declined. We are professionals and have an A rating. We do know what we're doing. We may not always be perfect, we may not always be able to schedule people right when they want it, and there are times when circumstances are beyond our control! But we are good at what we do and we try our best! That being said! Again, we are sorry for any inconvenience that we caused! Best Regards! OnCall Home Service

Poorly! Provided various excuses when I called them them two (2) hours after our scheduled appointment, and they gave me the excuse that new new person scheduled the wrong guy and that he doesn't do "small jobs" and just skipped over my service call. After that they decided instead of making it right that they would just schedule me fresh and that I could just wait my turn a week and a half later than I should have, if they had scheduled me correctly the first time. I said that I had to take off work for this, and they said that the reschedule was "all they can do." They also explained to me if I didn't like it I could call Angie's List and get my refund. I was not pleased with being cheated by a company that was in breach of their commitment they agreed to follow, and I am seeking that refund. Good for them that they are so popular now, as the service rep pointed out, but I would just prefer an honest company to do what they agree to more than a popular one that tells me to just take what they want me to? No! I will not and would not recommend them just on the sole basis of no customer respect...

Dear [member name removed], I am always so sorry when there is a scheduling issue that comes up and a customer is not happy. We always try our best and sometimes mistakes are made. I did not provide you with excuses, I told you what happened and that is was our fault and a mistake had been made. We do apologize for any inconvenience that we caused. So that being said I did offer to reschedule your appointment which you did not want. The only other option that I had was to offer you a refund. We are a busy company right now, it's spring and everyone wants things fixed right now and we do offer superior work. Our schedule is buys right now and if I could have offered you something quicker I would have. I do think giving us a F was harsh especially since we did not get to perform any work. I myself do feel bad that a mistake was made and there was nothing I could do about it. We appreciate your input and your feedback and from here on out we will try not to make any mistakes! Best Regards!

I have been having many issues with the service provider. He said he isn't going to finish the work because he thinks I should pay more money first. I think he should do more work before I pay him anything else. I have only been able to talk to the office girl, Beau will not call me back. They are very unprofessional and didn't clean up after themselves. My home owner's association even complained about it. When he did the estimate, he said he would do reductions to the fee later on if necessary. I watched the electrician spend less than two hours here. He estimated $445 for the price, and he did not do a reduction. They tried to bring in a dumpster the first day, and the home owner's association said right away that isn't allowed. This was included in the estimate. Dumpsters aren't allowed in the area, and he did not do a reduction for this. Communication was lacking, except when it came to getting payments. Various times I was told contractors would show up, and they didn't. The office worker was also rude when speaking with her. I had gotten estimates outside of him and was quoted cheaper rates. There were delays in getting many of the contractors out. I will never call them again.

The guy showed up, took measurements and explained exactly what needed to be done and what materials were needed. He estimated the cost of the materials would be under $20. I knew from talking to the company ahead of time that he would go buy the materials if I wanted him to and the time it took would be considered labor and billed as such. He went to Home Depot and bought the materials for about $15. He completed the project, disposed of the old wood and cleaned up everything. He did an excellent job. The project took a total of three hours: 2 hrs for $69 - Angie's List Special 1hr @ $55/hr - Additional Hour I would definitely use OnCall Home Services again and I highly recommend them.

He did a good job on the shower stall. My husband was supposed to ask him to also caulk around the spigot, but he forgot to tell him to do that, and apparently the caulker didn't notice it needed it. On the bathtub, he used an almond caulk on while tile, and the original caulk was clearly white. I was gone at the time, and my husband did not pay attention to what the caulker was doing. The caulk around the tub was also very sloppy. The caulk was still wet when I got home, so I scraped most of it off so I can redo it. I don't know what to say--shower work was done reasonably well, tub caulking looked like it had been done by a different person.

John, I believe his name was was sort of baffled by this project as it wasn't something he had tackled before, he googled it on his phone & figured out what he needed, & how to go about it. We also paid for the supplies that he was kind enough to go to Home Depot & pick up. He came back & proceeded to dismantle what I had on it & sealed it up very thoroughly, it looked a lot better. Although some excess mortar was splashed down below on patio etc.. it was very difficult to be neat due to the size & the close proximity of chimney to edge of roof-over all he did a very good job for not doing it before
Description of Work: Space surrounding flue of chimney had the cement broken through & coons kept trying to get in, had covered with wood & bricks with foam sealant, but didn't look nice
