It was horrible. They didn't do what the ad said because I hired them to repair some caulking and grout in the shower and called ahead and they said they only supplied certain colors of grout and caulk and that was fine. So I went and bought grout and when I got here he said, "Well, I don't know how to do grout." He said, "You need a tile specialist to do that." So he was trying his best to get the grout out and to replace it but I finally told him I didn't want my things ruined because he said, "I don't even have the tools to do that." So I said, "Well, then just stop." and I have had to hire a tile guy to come and so that. He did an okay job on the caulking. I mean that was no big deal. I could have done that myself, so I was a little disappointed. I mean, yes I am the one that told him to stop but he had already said, "I don't have the tools and the know how." He said, "I don't know why they put that on there." And then he called me on his way over just to give me a notice, he was very courteous and said, did I have any of the supplies. He was supposed to do caulking and grouting and he didn't do grouting because he didn't know how to do tile grouting. They were a little responsive.

It was fine. The work they ended up doing was fine but the original deal was two hours of wood/rot repair/restoration. When I had them come out and look at some wood rot that I had, then I think she wanted a second opinion on, see somebody had already come out and looked at it and said, yeah you really can't repair that you will have to replace that door frame. So I decided that group was a little hard to work with so I decided I will just buy this other deal and I'll get them to come look at it. They came and looked at it and basically told me the same thing. The guy was here all of about a half hour and looked at it and told me that but wouldn't let me use that deal for anything else. So I really didn't get my 2 hours of wood rot/repair and restoration out of that. I had them replace the door frame because I felt more comfortable with them.

I contracted OnCall to install a wall with a doorway between my master bedroom and bathroom (It was wide open when I bought the house). It was a house I just purchased and wanted the work done before I moved in. They got to work quickly per my request. They did an amazing job. You would have no idea that there was never a wall there. They matched the door, the hardware, the crown molding along the ceiling, the molding along the floor, the paint... And speaking of paint, because they were afraid the paint match wouldn't be absolutely perfect (They were taking samples and having it matched via computer), they repainted the entire adjoining wall as well as the new wall they installed so that there would be no issue with a slightly mismatched paint. Also, during this time my water heater (located in the attic) sprung a serious leak, damaging my ceiling and the wall between the garage and kitchen. I called a "water damage restoration" company that told me it would cost over $2,500 just to dry out and remove the damaged materials. They then told me I'd be on my own to get another contractor to replace the sheetrock/insulation and re-texture/repaint. So I figured I'd ask OnCall since they were already there and for about $750 they took care of all of it: Removed the damaged sheetrock/insulation, replaced it with new sheetrock/insulation, re-applied the texture to the walls and ceiling, re-painted. And again, they didn't just repaint the damaged areas, they re-painted my entire kitchen *AND* living room ceilings (Since they shared a ceiling) to make sure there was no evidence of paint mismatching. These are two huge rooms. After my satisfaction with this work, I also utilized the handyman coupons they offered a couple of times to take care of some minor blemishes on my old house that I was putting up for sale. Again, they were willing and able to work around my schedule getting me a handyman very quickly and helping me get my house on the market on time. Overall I was very impressed with their willingness to make sure I was happy and correct any potential issues very quickly. As with any contracting work there are going to be points of confusion between the various teams (Painter doesn't know he needs to match paint or drywall guy not knowing that the door guy hasn't been there yet). Instead of getting upset, as some reviewers seem to have done, all I did was pick up the phone and call Anthony (I guess you could call him the foreman for my project) and he always sorted it out very quickly, and the end result is work that actually beat my expectations.

Terrible experience and handiwork. Handyman managed to splash paint on my curtains, sofa, fireplace and clothes when touching up moulding, cracked glass light fixture while installing, miswired another light fixture and did not install the third one flush to the ceiling. Handyman came back out to "make it right". Very defensive, terrible attitude. He explained that he had installed "hundreds of lights" and had never had an issue. I reminded him that the light did not work after he installed it and DID work after an electrician took it down and rewired it. This is difficult to argue with... He did fix the light that was not flush and re-painted over two of the paint splashes on the fireplace but none of the others. Why I don't know and I didn't ask him to complete the painting as his attitude was so bad and borderline scary that I asked him to leave after he made it clear he had no intention of "making it right". He also provided me with upholstery cleaner to clean the paint out of my sofa. I'm sure you can imagine how that worked out. Concerning the cracked light he stated "you don't have any evidence I did that". I sent pictures of all the damage and emailed the owner two days ago and have heard NOTHING. Horrible experience.

Dear [Member name removed]! I have spoken with you several times and you have said so many different things in our conversations, and had so many different stories about the outcome of your project. First you called and told us that John did a fantastic job, and then called right back to let us know that one light was not flush with the ceiling (I told you I would send him back out to fix it). After that it went downhill fast: you claim he got paint on one pair of jeans and today it’s three. Perhaps you should have cleaned your clothes from the floor and work area to avoid this type of situation altogether. Also, the paint you purchased for us to use was white. Per the pictures you sent in, as well as our technician's report, you have gray paint on your things (the same color as your walls). It’s blatantly obvious that someone else has been doing work there besides us! Next, you claimed that you had to have an electrician out. Never once did you mention that a light was not functional. You also have refused to furnish any invoice from said electrician. It was your choice to call someone else in, if that is what really happened, as we had already informed you that we would honor our work and fix whatever was wrong. It is our policy to warranty our work and ensure that it is done correctly. As for the broken light cover, you wouldn’t even show it to him. When he installed it, there was nothing wrong with it or he would not have installed it. When he came back to make whatever repairs he could, he went ahead and paid you $40.00 for the jeans, which had two tiny spots on the waist (he let you keep them) and brought out cleaner and paint that he paid for himself, even though he very clearly never got any grey paint on anything. Obviously, there is no way to make you happy short of donating/opting to pay for, all your work, couches, curtains, pants, sundries, and a full house cleaning job. Customers also have a responsibility to themselves as well as to the service provider to have their house in some sort of order, picked up and with materials as needed for the handyman to be able to perform his job. Below I am adding the report that our technician sent in: August 6th - First arrived on the job. Found the floors cluttered with all types of debris from blankets to items I could not identify. I also noticed a wall with no sheet rock on it. Bare studs showing. After reviewing the scope of work, I installed a kitchen light, a dining room light, and a bathroom light. There was no apparent damage to either and all were functioning before I left the area to move on to the next project. I did some minor sheet rock repairs and painted window seats. I painted the rear window sheet first and attempted to keep the kitty cat from climbing on it. I sent the home owner to grab some sheet rock and when she came back she went to inspect the area and somehow the cat had gotten into the window seat and got onto the bed with paint on her paws. I found this out while painting the other window seat. I continued with the sheet rock repairs and painted some crown molding. I noticed that there was silver paint on her curtains and also on her couch. I did not think anything of it because of the state of her house in general. Every time I did a project, I had to continuously move miscellaneous items on the floor strewn throughout the house. At the end of the day, the lady was very happy and she even gave me a $40 tip. August 12th - Upon arriving at the house I reviewed the problems the lady was having. The light fixture she stated was not flush to the ceiling, but it was indeed flush to the ceiling. The new fixture was smaller than the old fixture and I caulked around it to make it look presentable. The lady was going on about how she had to call out an electrician because one of the lights did not work. As I explained to the lady she should have called me immediately upon discovering the light fixture was not working. I went to Home Depot to get some paint and fabric cleaner, which the lady said at that time if it doesn't work everything will be fine. I continued to paint over the speckles of paint on the fireplace with paint I purchased. Upon handing the lady $40 for the pair of jeans she claims I ruined, she informed me that she would be willing to split the cost of the light fixture she said was broken. I was not able to see the light fixture because her brother was sleeping in the bedroom. She also demanded reimbursement for the electrician she had brought out. However, offered no receipt of cost for this said electrician. I explained to the lady I always check all light fixtures before I leave the area and it was working when I left. I finally asked the lady what is it going to cost me for her to be happy. That is when she abruptly said "we are done." I thanked her for her time and left the premises.
Very good. "Jason" arrived on time and seems to have very good skills in all kinds of repairs. He was pleasant and performed all work satisfactorily. Well worth the cost for two hours of handyman services.

For 3 hours of paid service, the man clearly wanted to get done and out of there early - so his work was rushed. He mostly did a good job in the kitchen, except for a few spots where the caulking was smeared up onto the backsplash and he didn't carefully check it all and go back to smooth it out right away. He did take the time to remove the old grout first. By the time I saw the smeared spots, they had dried and he said that it would only get messed up further if he tried to cut out the smeared caulking. The replaced soap holder looks great and he did an excellent job with that. Other caulking jobs on the bathroom floor - which I asked him to do since he still had over an hour of time left - were definitely rushed. He didn't want to do them at first because he said it was just dirty grout - but then ended up caulking over the dirty grout to get it done. I am pretty sure that he didn't try and remove the old grout at all - he finished very quickly - and he wasn't willing to do any grouting. He said that he only did caulking. The last bathroom to be finished had several smeared areas that hadn't yet dried and I went back and smoothed them out myself after he left so that I didn't have caulking on the floor tiles. He still ended up getting out 30 minutes early. And then he cleaned out some of the old caulk / grout from the back of his truck and it was left on my driveway and grass.

I've had a previous good experience with Oncall installing a new door, so hired them to do this job. It went from over eager, to bad, then worse. I negotiated with the office on the price (initially estimated at $1,050.) and they came down $100; that was satisfactory to me. During scheduling through the office (which was coordinating the painter's and my schedule), the office manager called the painter to confirm a second set of dates with the painter only to find out that the painters were at the house already performing the powerwash. This was on a Thursday or Friday, the end of June. I expressed my concerns that there was still a lot of humidity in the air and that there was still sporadic rain in the forecast to the office manager. She indicated that the painter was a professional and would not paint if weather conditions were bad for painting. I also expressed my concern that I was not prepared for them to paint, as I had plants on a trellis that needed to be carefully removed, and that I could not leave work on such short notice. She indicated that the power washing was the only thing they would do on the first day. Day 2 On Monday, only one painter arrived. Monday afternoon, I called the office manager again, this time to express my dismay that the painter was not going to complete the job by the end of the day. She indicated that the other painter was could not be there, but would be there the following day. Everything that had been painted looked great at the end of the day. The painter had gotten much of the trim painted, had primed and painted one layer and one color of paint to the wooden garage doors. Day 3 The second painter didn't arrive until afternoon. Late in the afternoon, while they were still painting, it rained, a brief downpour, followed by drizzle well into the evening. The painters took no precautions and made no recommendations to protect the paint job. I opened the garage doors, so that they would not get rained on when the rain began to downpour. I pointed out the wet paint was washing off the metal garage exit door. While it was raining they repainted and dried the metal door with a hairdryer. That evening, I noticed that one of the bottom panels on the garage doors had bubbled especially severely, and some of the paint elsewhere on the wooden garage doors and the metal door had started to curl and bubble from the day's humidity and rain. Day 4 I left them a note before heading to work pointing out the rain damage and indicated that I expected that they would fix it. I came home at noon to find that they hadn't fixed it. There was only one painter present. I expressed my dismay to both the painter and the office manager. I paid him for 1/2 the job and as I returned to work, the painter had begun to scape away some of the paint damage from one of the upper panels. I let him know that I would return before 6 p.m. so that he could access the edges of the wooden garage doors, which they still had not painted. During the afternoon, I had conversations with the office manager and a project manager, who both insisted that the bubbling was not due to the rain. Given that I had seen the paint job before and after the rain event, I will not accept any of that bull. They asked for payment. I let them know that the job was not completed and that I expected them to fix the damage. They thought the job was finished & asked me to send pictures, which I did, of the damage and of the areas that still had not been painted. Day 5 We scheduled a day for the painter to meet me at the house at the end of the day. He finished painting the trim on the house and the garage doors. We discussed the damaged area. He indicated he could not fix the damage and that the panels would need to be replaced. I let him know that that was unsatisfactory and shorted the final payment by $100. I had one additional conversation with the office manager, who said they would fix the damage, but that I would have to pay extra. At this point, I do not trust that they used two coats of paint, except on one of the upper garage door panels. Had they adequately prepped and primed the wooden garage doors and completed the job within the estimated time frame they stated, I believe there would be no rain damage.
Description of Work: I hired them to powerwash, prep, and paint the exterior trim on the front and back of the house, the garage doors, and the ceiling on the patio; using two colors. They were to prime the wooden garage doors before the two coats of paint and on all other surfaces just paint two coats - no priming, just cleaning, prep, and paint. I did not purchase the primer and paint through them. They indicated that it was a two day job.

Dear Customer: We appreciate your response and we are sorry that you were not pleased with the work. We started the job when we did because you insisted and we changed the date several times, and that’s why the painter got confused on when to start the power wash. At no time were you ever told that there would be two painters. Most of the time there is just one. At no time were you ever told that he job would take just one day. Every time he got there you kept adding more to the job than what was originally agreed on. As for the rain, weather is totally unpredictable there is nothing we could do about it. You and I never discussed the weather or the humidity. Your garage door is old and damaged from previous weather. It was the wood panel that was bubbling up not the paint. We had nothing to do with the damage to your door. That is why I sent out our Project Manager to see if it was caused by us. If we had caused it, we would have fixed it. We stand behind our work! We try really hard to make our customer happy, but there are times when you can please some people all of the time, but you cannot please all of the people all of the time. Thanks again for your feedback! Best Regards, OnCall Home Service

Before you purchase an Angie's list coupon please call them up to determine if they can complete project. I guess I had higher expectation for what a professional handyman could do. I assumed they double checked their work and this wasn't the case. We had a list of items that we wanted completed and 2 major items were not feasible. We wanted something to cover a high window and they couldn't do this if it's over a certain height. Which is reasonable. They also couldn't weatherstrip our doors. Apparently our doors are pretty unique that it was complex to do. What was disappointing was that once he realized that the weatherstrip didn't work he didn't take it off. We noticed that night when we went to lock up that the door wouldn't lock because of the weatherstrip. The handyman put on the baby proof cabinet stuff and about 25% of them do not work. It was to low and the kids can just open the door. We had to spend about 2 hours to check all the cabinet and adjust the height so that it would prevent my daughter from opening. There was a light fixture that we wanted him to take a look at - he couldn't take off the cover which is fine. We couldn't figure it out either. The problem came when I had to go to the bathroom and the light wouldn't turn on. Luckily I caught this before he left and he was able to fix it. If you do hire them you would need to do a quality check with the handyman after each job which is a hassle if you have 2 young kids. They were responsive and were extremely nice. I just wasn't impressed with the work completed.

I had gotten OnCall Home Services to do some tasks requiring climbing ladders to my high ceilings. The tasks included replacing the smoke detector batteries and checking my door bell, which was not very loud. I had hoped that there would be a volume control on the door bell. When the OnCall Home Services representative checked it out he actually found that the bell was broken and couldn't be repaired. He then offered to go to Home Depot and get a new door bell for me and install it. I am very pleased with his professionalism and work and will certainly consider OnCall Home Services in the future.
