Native Edge Landscape is not your typical landscape design firm. Founded in 2008 and grown from seed right here in Austin, Native Edge is a full-service landscaping business committed to responsibility—to our environment, our community, and our clients.
We create thoughtful landscape designs fully customized to our clients’ lifestyles and budgets, and we take care of every last detail to bring them to life and maintain them, using only the most sustainable practices and exclusively native plants.
Description of Work: we initially called for an estimate to have a front bush removed/replaced (it was dying) and small patio installed in our front yard. During the conversation, Jill suggested we draw up a plan for the entire front and back yard. This was something that we had discussed doing in the past and so we agreed. $1200 and six weeks later we were presented with a plan that was approx. $176K -almost a third of the price of our home. Jill suggested that given the market, and our neighborhood, we would easily increase the value of our home by as much as the plan. We were appalled. We do have a retaining wall in our yard that requires significant work however I was disappointed that we were never asked for our budget during the process and that a more sr. person inside the company would have thought it was ok to present such a proposal. While Jill was competent as a Jr. designer, we never spoke or interacted with anyone else at the company - despite that our contract indicated a more sr. individual would be present at the final meeting where the plan was presented. When I emailed Jill back to let her know why we would not be moving forward with her plan she indicated that she preferred we feel overwhelmed and that we could remove approx. $110K of extras to bring the true landscaping cost closer to $60K (still approx. $20K more than quotes we received from reputable competitors). Sadly, we spent $1200 for a plan that was unrealistic and I still don't have a solution to remove/replace our front bush.

DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!!!My husband and I decided to start a big landscaping project and got this company's name from a friend of a friend. We had the goal of landscaping much of our front yard and the entire backyard. We had our first meeting in November so that we could have plenty of time to plan and meet before the ideal Spring planting season. The first meeting with the owner, Rodney, went well. He had some great ideas right off the bat and he seemed very enthusiastic about working on our project. Our goals and budget were discussed upfront, and we all seemed to be on the same page. He required a $500 deposit which we quickly got to him, and he said it would take about six weeks to get back to us with plans. In the mean time, we were working with an architect on plans for an addition to our house (which we had discussed with Rodney at our initial meeting). We completed the plans and sent them to Rodney so he could incorporate that into his design. He responded saying thanks and that was exactly what he needed, and he would be back in touch with us soon. My husband and I starting leaving messages for him at the office to check in on his progress, but he never picked up and never called back. Only occasionally we would get an email from him saying he was working on our plans and would be in touch 'soon'. One time he said sorry for the delayed response and blamed it on his allergies. Months had gone by at this point. As Spring came around, we emailed with an ultimatum saying that we would need our plans within one week or else we would need to get our $500 deposit back. No one ever called us back, no one ever emailed us back. I was convinced they were out of business. My husband thought they weren't because they were still keeping up their website and blogging about plants and bugs. We continued to email and call and leave messages. Weeks after the ultimatum, I finally received a call from the accountant saying that our check was in the mail. Days later, the check had not arrived. After another round of calls and messages, they said they sent out a second check. We finally received our refund back. So now we have wasted five months of our time, wasted a lot of energy on pointless calls and emails, missed the Spring planting season, and now we're back at ground zero. I do not understand how Native Edge runs a business or stays in business. Don't waste your time like we did.
Description of Work: We had an initial meeting with them which we thought went well. The rest of the experience did not go well.
