Jed McCuistion was very professional, communicative and was very committed to doing good work and making sure that work met our standards. We had a detailed initial design for what we wanted to build and Jed considered that idea, discussed it with us in person and after a couple days responded with an idea that took our concept to the next level. His design is familiar and traditional but more nuanced and mature than the one we'd conceived. Jed had a vision of what the best solution would be for the space and set the general parameters based upon our discussions and then suggested a strong design. He let us know that he would be able to get to our project after the holiday. The start date slipped a bit but Jed was communicative and kept us apprised of changes in schedule. When the date approached he returned for a more detailed discussion, more measuring and talk about hardware choices. Jed helped us understand the impact our choices (how knobs versus other types of pulls or going without pulls would impact door spacing) would have on the design; he was clear on giving us actions that we needed to take (choosing hardware, specifying certain measurements) and let us know how those decisions were tied to the schedule (in a clear and communicative, professional way). At that same meeting we signed an agreement and he left us with a copy and showed us images of examples of his work from his laptop. He was patient in the discussions and left a respectful space in conversations that helped me feel heard and think things through by talking. Jed offered to have us out to his shop to see the work in progress which we did not take him up on just because of family scheduling, but that openness to having a transparent process impressed me; he provided photos of the work in progress as things unfolded and the build seemed to go very smoothly. For installation there was a day when Jed was unable to make the amount of progress he'd hoped for due to his assistant being unavailable, but considering that setback I was very impressed with the progress he made; these cabinets are large and heavy. My approach to handling such events are that people have things come up we are all humans doing the best we can. Regardless of that minor setback he was here when he said he would be, kept us informed and the work progressed at a good pace. We have two young kids, a cat, and a generally tiny space to work in and Jed was polite and easy to be around and kept the space tidy - storing his tools here, but doing so in a way that didn't put us out at all (well, to be honest I didn't ask the cat). If you want a craftsman with a great eye, great instincts and great skills, both of the carpentering and social variety -- I don't think you can do better than McCuistion Design and Construction.
Description of Work: He designed and built an entire wall of living room cabinets/ bookshelves; integrating the design with the existing style of our home (1930's wood-frame home) and bringing coax/hdmi and electrical connections through the back wall of the cabinet in the appropriate places to connect our TV to our computer and stereo and provided heavy-duty roll-out shelves where appropriate for our turntable and laptop.

McCuistion Design and Construction did first rate job at the above tasks. Jed notable for good analysis of the problem, solutions that were cost effective. Tested the carport roof repair by running water over it for 30+ minutes. Jed wasn't satisfied with the paint job on the carport posts, so he had them done again. Cleaned up all the areas around the work site. Excellent service.
Description of Work: Provider removed and repaired fascia and flashing at southeast corner of house, removed and replaced fascia at carport and installed custom flashing cornice boards with Hardi Trim to stop leak from carport roof, and cut back mold on house trim at roof and bleached and painted with KILZ. Painted posts at carport.

This was as a big one as the openings to be screened were/are LARGE. The large screens were secured with wood frames to match the existing wood rails/posts. Also added a total of three ceiling fans (two that light and all three have speed variance)that required an electrician and additional wiring. Now I can enjoy my patios without TEXAS sized bugs and have the sliding glass open for entertaining. I have had numerous comments on what a great job it was by people who are in the business. A job well done and I am pleased.
Description of Work: Screened-in (enclosed) TWO LARGE patios

They have been pretty good. Jed McCuistion, the owner of the company, is excellent. He is doing a job for us right now and we have had him do two or three other jobs in the past. He really did good and he really supervised the whole thing with the cabinets. I do not remember how much he charged us for that but his price was competitive. It is probably more than most of the other companies than some so his price has a chance to be on the high side but he is reliable.
Description of Work: We used McCuistion Construction + Design to do the cabinets on our remodeling job.

Jed remodeled our master bathroom in 2004 and our family room in 2008. He was our first choice - our only choice - for the kitchen. He is a craftsman. His work is superb. He came out several times to discuss the kitchen - listening to our ideas, adding his own so that we ended up with a beautiful, working kitchen! As with any project of this size there were frustrations, such as finding electrical and plumbing lines that had to be moved. This meant going down to the studs to reroute the lines through the walls. Right now, four months later I really don't remember any major problems. While we did not change the floor plan of the kitchen, Jed tweaked cabinet space to the max. The new cabinets are soft-closing and include pull-out drawers, wood dividers, etc. Because our kitchen's eating area has stained wainscoting, the cabinet stain had to be custom blended to match. Jed met with the finisher repeatedly until it was perfect. We also went into the laundry room and replaced two base cabinets, put new doors on the upper cabinets and granite on the countertops. Jed was on site when the counters were measured for granite and made sure that what he was doing and what they were doing would mesh when complete. (i.e., edge overlap, sink support, etc.) He was very patient with my inability to choose a paint color. Very Patient. We're not morning people so we gave Jed a garage door opener. They could arrive early and not disturb us. Tools were put away and the area swept every day. Jed's calm 'it-can-be-done' demeanor and his understanding of my sense of humor got us through the eight weeks of on-site work. We will definitely work with Jed on any future renovations. He is not inexpensive. He charges his worth and accounts for his expenses. The above cost is Jed's work only - tear down, construction, cabinets, painting, etc. It does not include the appliances, lighting, granite, sinks, plumbing, etc. Yes, we went over budget, but our initial thoughts were totally unrealistic for what we really wanted to do. Still we got more value than we paid for. As a friend said upon seeing the completed kitchen: and quot;I didn't really think you could change much in your kitchen, but this is WOW!and quot; The workmanship shows from the cabinets to the cove lighting. This is a kitchen that is in keeping with the rest of the house. This is a kitchen that makes the house!
Description of Work: Jed McCuistion did a down-to-the-studs remodel of our kitchen plus cabinet work in the laundry room. The flooring was replaced a few years ago, but everything on and above it was replaced. Jed helped me get permits (I had the time and interest in getting the permits myself, but he went with me for the first one), took the kitchen down to the studs, listened and discussed design ideas with us, arranged for the plumbing and electrical subcontractors, talked to inspectors, did the sheetrock, painting, trim work, suggested suppliers for appliances, sinks, tile, etc. And he built the cabinets!
