i had 2 different fans installed, they didn't know how to install one of hte fans and asked me to contact the company as one fan didn't have the same mechanics. I called hte company and they stated that this one particular fan worked differently and didn't need an additional part. This wasted my time and effort as they could have figured this out but just looking at the directions to install. In addition, the fans did not appear flush with the roof and i had to ask them to come back and add glue around the fan so it would not look undone. Would not recommend them again.

Malco Electric strives to provide our customers with the highest quality of service possible. We also understands that it is impossible to meet every customer's expectation 100% of the time. it is obvious by this review that our standards were not met and for that we apologize. It is our understanding that the (2) two perfect performances prior to this one were satisfactory to the customer without a positive review. If customer had not waited (6) six months before leaving this review we could have come to a satisfactory outcome.

Malco's team, Chris and Anna, arrived on time, keeping me informed by phone ahead of time. They worked efficiently to install a new light fixture on my 22' high ceiling. Because the original fixture was not centered, Chris also moved the fixture. When the light bulbs that I had purchased for the new fixture appeared to be causing a problem (not lighting consistently on the new dimmer switch), Chris offered to come back by with new ones. He went out of his way to ensure I was happy--literally. My house was clean when they left, and I love my new, centered fixture, matching sconces and dimmer switch.

Called Malco Electric with a problem with one of my GFCI outlets. They were booked up for two weeks but Greg guided me through the process of installing a new outlet. He asked me to send him a photo of the back of the GFCI outlet, then called me and told me how to put the correct wires in the correct place. It worked! I can recommend Malco Electric without hesitation and will continue to use them in the future. Steve

Cody upgraded all of the old outlets with GFCI receptacles and did so quickly and efficiently. In addition to doing excellent work, Cody was punctual, extremely knowledgeable, and a really nice guy. I asked a lot of questions, and he was great about answering all of them thoroughly, giving me helpful tips, and clearly explaining all of my options. He even went to extra trouble to keep my internet connection up and running as long as possible so I had almost no downtime from work. (I work from home using WIFI.) The job was well done and reasonably priced, plus I got a great discount via an Angie’s List deal. I highly recommend both Malco Electric and Cody for high-quality work, a good price, and fast and friendly service!

This job sounded simple but it turned out to be very challenging. The Malco team did a lot of good troubleshooting and diagnosed the problem as a bad spring connector inside a single outlet that caused a power lead to look like it was connected when it wasn't. This power lead was feeding both the outlet that wasn't working and my pantry light. Malco fixed the outlet and now everything works. They advised me to start replacing the outlets in my home - apparently the spring connections in outlets older than 30 years are prone to fail. I was very impressed with the Malco team - they took on a challenging problem, they isolated it to the exact point of failure and fixed it. I would definitely hire Malco again.

The service itself went great! I was very happy with the overall result -- I got 2 220 outlets installed and a bonus 110 outlet installed that I wasn't expecting. After showing them what I wanted, they accidentally added the wrong type of outlet and gave it to me "for free". I was happy with the result. My appointment took a week to get to, which wasn't bad, but knocked them down from an A to a B on the 'Responsiveness'. I also wanted to use the Angie's list $169 for 2 hours coupon. When Malco showed up, there were two electricians there and after 2 hours, when I got the bill, the coupon only covered one hour of each even though the big reason they took two people was because they needed to run errands to nearby hardware stores. It was unclear that this would be billed at the same rate, so I was disappointed when what I estimated to be a $300 job turned out to be $500. I could have gotten it done for less by other places and wish I'd used them.
Cody was excellent and I would certainly hire this company again. I give Malco and Cody 5-stars

I've lived here for almost 11 years. In that time, I've occasionally needed an electrician. By far, Malco is the very best I've used. This family-owned company has been in business for about 40 years. From the very start, I was treated like a valued friend, not just another customer. The tech Chris was terrific!!!! He was prompt, polite, friendly, neat & told me exactly what he was doing & why. I am not very familiar with things electrical, but Chris explained things to me in terms I totally understood. I would not hesitate to hire this excellent company again.

Jimmie and Chris came out on time to see all the work done, and were able to provide an accurate estimate on the spot (that actually came in under budget after the work was done). All concerns were addressed in the estimate. When the work day came, they were again prompt and expedient. The quality was good, though I was a little hopeful for being able able to bury some wires, but understand that that was sort of out of scope for what we planned, and would require some other kinds of talent. Everything worked great and they gave me a contact in case anything came up, would definitely hire again for any electrical needs.

I was impressed with this company's punctuality, expertise, and efficiency. The only reason for the "B" in professionalism is that I wish I had been told about certain charges. The rep. offered to run to Lowe's for supplies I needed. I expected to be charged the hourly rate, but I was also charged a commission on the products purchased. Not a big deal, but it would have been nice to know. I also forgot to use my Angie's list discount! Don't make my mistake - the service was done well and promptly, but it wasn't cheap. I was charged from the time I got a call indicating the rep. was leaving the store to the time he left my house. Despite my concerns, I would use this company again.

Purchased a deal for $169 for 2 hours of labor because we needed some outlets installed in our garage. We were looking for a well recommended electrician and decided to try Malco. I was a little surprised by the additional $49 travel fee to come to Kyle/San Marcos area, but it is what it is. They were a few hours late for the scheduled job time, but kept in contact with us about the delay on the previous job, which is totally understandable and appreciated. We needed (1) GFCI breaker replaced in the garage, and two new outlets installed in there as well. After discussing what was needed, they left to get the materials from Lowe's. We were a little surprised that the materials were not handy on the truck, but all in all the work was done very well and didn't take very long once they got started. Overall, I would recommend them, but felt the travel fee was a little excessive. We just would not hire again due to travel fee cost and will have to find someone closer. We have had other projects done by other companies out of our zip code area and this was the first time we were ever charged a travel fee, even from contractors coming from San Antonio area.

The transformer install took no time at all, but the RING doorbell had a lot of issues and in the 2 hr window it did not look like it was going to be completed. Jimmie tried various ways that he had to help complete the install, but nothing seemed to work. He acknowledged that he had run out of ideas for this to work and I agreed that he did his best. In the end, I agreed to contact RING and he agreed to come back once I figured out the issue to complete the install. I spoke with RING and Jimmie had done everything right, but the RING device itself was the issue. They sent me a new one and it installed immediately without having to make another appointment with Jimmie. Can't say many people would have offered to come back to fix or finish a job, that's great customer service!

The work went fantastic! I couldn't be happier. Chris arrived when promised and surveyed the situation to determine his plan of action. He proceeded and explained as he went along in a very personable, efficient and professional manner. The new ceiling fan was a different brand from the original and required a new ceiling slope mount and 4' downrod replacement. After the ceiling fan replacement, he removed and diagnosed the issue on my 3-socket halogen light fixture and was able to steer me to a quick and inexpensive lamp shop for repair. He returned and re-installed the fixture. Everything is working great and I would definitely use and recommend Malco again.

The electrician, Chris, was very prompt and courteous and got the work done quickly and efficiently. He also gave me some excellent suggestions for improving the lighting in my home that didn't involve expensive fixes. I had purchased the 2-hour Angie's List special, and when there was time left over, he even went around the house looking for lights that had burned out, and replaced a few. I will definitely hire Malco again for other electrical work. I'd also like to add that another electrical company wanted to charge me $689 just to install the smoke detectors. Even without the Angie's List deal, Malco would have charged me far less.

On 12/21/17 Malco Electric installed the whole house surge protector and fixed all GCFI outlets in the house except for one. The one remaining GCFI was part of the circuit which had open grounds. Other issues were identified in the attic, but after 6 hours the open ground issue remained unresolved. Malco Electric scheduled an appointment for 1/4/18 to find and fix the open ground issues. Total charges for 12/21/17 were $1162.54 plus the $358 for the two coupons. On 1/4/18, Malco Electric returned to our home to work on resolving the open grounds on several outlets including the remaining GCFI outlet in the guest bath. The electrician found that the GCFI had a poor ground through a "stab in " style connection. The electrician changed the GCFI connection to a standard screw terminal connection and all open grounds in the circuit were resolved. The electrician checked with his supervisor regarding the cost of the 2nd trip. The supervisor indicated that there would be no additional cost for the 2nd trip. Although a bill was generated and mailed to us for the 2nd trip, when we spoke to the owner the issue was resolved with no additional charges for the 2nd trip.
Description of Work: My wife and I bought a 42 year old home in the Austin area. The home inspector noted open grounds on several AC outlets. We purchased a Malco Electric Angie's List coupon for $169 for 2 hours of electrical work. We also purchased another Angie's List coupon for $189 to have Malco Electric install a whole house surge protector. We also had several GCFI outlets tested and fixed.

They charge almost $22000 for electrical work for a moderate kitchen and bathroom remodel, and some electrical handyman work! The good: Very high rating on Angie’s List. John (the representative) and Randy (the owner) sounded very nice, considerate, and professional when talking over the phone. The bad: They tricked me into hiring them with deceptive promises and severely (fraudulently) inflated labor hours and material prices. They sent many extremely unproductive electricians (really?) at a time to my home. Their work quality was horrible. They put lien on my property, and sent me FAKE attorney letter to threaten me. It is impossible to post the full story here because it takes many pages, but the full story will be presented in court after the potential litigation begins. The bottom line - They are trying to make me pay close to $22,000 for electrical work for a kitchen and master bath remodel and light fixture replacement of a very moderate 3 bedroom house! And major light fixtures NOT included! What makes this so outrageous is that multiple written quotes for the project range from $3K to $6K from other contractors. The owner Mr. Randy Mallory and his business representative John Reyner tricked me into hiring them by hours instead of providing a quote with the reason that “the project is small, not worth it to have an electrician spending 2-3 hours to work on a quote when the total charge is only 2 to 3 thousands”. After I foolishly believed what John said and agreed to hire them by hours, they sent groups of extremely unproductive workers to my home, and later charged me for the unproductive hours on my property, AND the hours that they claimed their workers worked but actually they were not on my property at all. When I demanded their work log to justify the charges, they made up laughable work “achievements” for a portion of their claimed hours, and still without real work log. Then they put a lien on my property, and sent me FAKE attorney letter to threaten me. Additionally, in the beginning of the project, I made an agreement with John that they would only charge me market price on material. However, they finally charge me on material at prices that were MANY times of the prices at Home Depot/Lowes. For work quality, please check out the picture of the flush lights after they replace the light bulbs. When I called Malco Electric and talked to Mr. John Reyner to invite for a bid, I already had several written quotes. The only reason I called them was because I was impressed with the many “A” ratings on Angie’s List. When I talked with Mr. John Reyner, he sounded so professional, considerate, and confident. Now I know how deceptive this business is. I believe the “professional” talk they make on the phone has tricked me and many other customers into their deceptive practice. I seriously question the authenticity of the high rating they have. For those who gave high ratings – How many of you are you real customers? For those true customers who gave high ratings – I know John and Randy sounded very nice and professional. However, did you compare their work/charge with other contractors? Did you compare their material price with the price at Home Depot /Lowe's? (It is very easy to check online. You will be surprised.)
Description of Work: Main work - electrical work (wiring, lights, switches, plugs) for master bathroom and kitchen remodeling of a moderate 3 bedroom home built in the 1970s. This is totally stated incorrect. Our first contact with Mr. [Member Name Removed] was by telephone. He talked to our service department and stated he had a few plugs and switches in his kitchen that needed re-locating as he was remodeling. He was told if the job was under $1000 it would be treated as a service call and not submit a formal bid on the job. He did not tell us in the telephone conversation that he had a permit on the job and was planning to do more than described. When the service tech arrived on the job, he walked into the house where there were walls demolished in the kitchen and master bedroom. Wires were hanging everywhere and wires were not labeled and still hot. My service tech called in and said this was much more work than described on the phone and would take longer than a day. He said Mr. [Member Name Removed] had a permit on the job and that we would need to pull one also, and it would take more than one man. Our normal service call rate is $144 first hour, $96 every hour after. Mr. [Member Name Removed] then asked if it was going to be more than $1000 could we lower the rate. Malco agreed to reduce it to $86. Seeing the scope, Malco eventually reduced the hourly rate to $78.00 per hour as the job kept increasing. The original agreement was our standard charge which Mr. [Member Name Removed] agreed to. Malco was on the job 12/20, 12/28, 12/29, 12/30, and 2/1/17. He was invoiced with (4) amounts, which Mr. [Member Name Removed] paid. When he paid them, he said nothing about our work, about the job, amount owed and paid by him. Assuming he was pleased he called us back in April 2017 to finish the job. When returning nothing changed on the charge and billing. The following work was for work on 4/18, 4/19,4/25,4/26 and 4/28. It would take pages to detail what every room needed done. Here is an example of the kitchen: -Relocated and re-wired (6) switches, (7) plugs, (6) recess cans. When we started re-wiring in the kitchen there had been some walls demo out and wires were hanging. We had to trace out, some of the wiring was too short to wire to the new re-located areas and some of the wiring that came from the panels were too short and had to re-wire back to panel.Mr. [Member Name Removed] also added a utility room in the corner for washer, dryer, exhaust fan light and added (2) switches in it. He added an island. Malco Electric had to chip the concrete floor to feed new electric power line to the islands and feed (2) new outlets on opposite ends of the island. Had to [Member Information Removed] new home runs to all appliances in kitchen. General lighting in the kitchen. He had us add electric power to a laundry room in kitchen, we installed a light and he came back and added a new wall, re-installing 2nd time. His sub carpenter installed cabinets and tiled over 2 plugs, we had installed, causing us to fish them out of wall and re-install. Wired and installed lights under cabinets. This is just one room. Malco also completed work in master bedroom, master closet, entry of house, dining room, bathroom in living area, living room, garage, landing top of stairwell that was very difficult to get to, (2) additional bedrooms, attic,, upstairs bedroom,, game room (this would take pages to describe work). To add to the difficulty of the job, Mr. [Member Name Removed] never had a print on the job. He only had a cabinet layout for the kitchen with no electric shown. The way he ran the job was he was never there more than 15 or 20 minutes of a morning. He told our techs what he wanted and he would leave for work. Yes, Mr. [Member Name Removed] hired an attorney, so therefore we are forced to hire one, not fake, and I assume it will be fully explained in court.

Invoiced for CAT6 Ethernet but got CAT5, did not install terminators just pulled wire, Same for COAX, no ends installed. Materials were 4-5 times the cost at home depot. Much of the extra time I was billed for was for the owner and the tech deciding how much to rip me off for on the phone while I was standing there and heard the owner being very abusive to the tech. I called and emailed a number of time to schedule them to finish the job and no answer.
Description of Work: Install an electrical outlet, COAX, Ethernet behind the wall mounted TV. Easy runs but was charged 3.5 hours

Response from Malco Electric Inc
In the service industry it is difficult to satisfy 100% of customers 100% of the time. Mr. [Member Name Removed] contacted us by email and we responded. Our tech caught this job as a late job and was able to accomplish some of the issues. We still did not get a phone contact. Mr. [Member Name Removed] stated he called and and emailed after that is not true. I contacted Angie's to see if there was a phone contact on file, and there is not. Mr. [Member Name Removed] was emailed Friday, 12/29/17 and asked that he call us to discuss. Being that we have no way to contact Mr. [Member Name Removed], and a way for the owner to work out a solution, we have no other option than to mark this customer as someone that can not be satisfied.
