LONGHORN LAWNS

My experience with Longhorn Lawns was NOT good, to say the least. All I wanted to know is what was included in the price quoted to me. If you tell me you’re going to charge me $20K to $40K to landscape my yard, then you need to tell me what I will get for that and what I will have to pay for separately. If all your estimate includes is labor and your fee, then all other supplies, stones, plants, hardware, parts and materials are separate charges, then be honest and say so. I’m not going to pay you $500 for a non-refundable landscaping plan only to find out that what you led me to believe would cost $20K to $40K will actually cost me upwards of $75k. If you can’t give me an honest answer to a simple question then you are disreputable. This business model is a disgrace, and these smoke and mirror tactics to force a customer into a commitment are disingenuous, manipulative and just plain CROOKED! I do not recommend Kara or Longhorn Lawns to anyone who seeks integrity or honesty up front in what you will actually pay to get your landscaping done. Buyer beware this merchant!

We were in a bind and wanted to get sod down before a party to have outdoors, and the guys responded quickly, bid quickly, were able to adjust the work to meet my budget and got to the site early Friday and finished the job on time for a party on Saturday. I could not have asked for a more professional and customer focused team, great job, already recommended to the neighbors and will use again!

They did a great job and they fixed things that didn't work right. They were on it and were very good at their work. We would definitely hire them again and we would highly recommended them.

AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL! I paid for their "hands off, your lawn will look great 365 days / year service" and my lawn literally DIED on their watch. No one ever came to me and said we need to do anything differently. I had to proactively call them and say "why did my lawn die?" and they had the nerve to blame me for it. My sprinkler system was checked by a professional company only 2 months ago and is working great and on the right settings. Terrible service and feel like they literally stole my money for months. Don't use them under any circumstance.

The owner came out and looked at my yard to see the hard spots and give me a good figure estimate on what it would cost. He followed up the next day with a written quote for the first call out which was going to be some serious clearing and pricing for a monthly contract after that. They did a really good job of setting expectations and following through. The return visits will only be about $75.00.

At first I loved it. But the stonework started cracking and shifting just over the guarantee... they won't even respond to my calls. I will have to get it fixed. The stonework along my sidewalk to the front door required drainage. They put in some little PVC pipe between the stones. During the drought it was okay. Now that it rains...the stonework forms a lake . The water is 4 inches deep up to my first step. I guess I will sit with a wedge and try to hammer out a few stones so it can drain which may be hard as I am 66 years old! I called and called. The owner never calld me back. I would have worked with them to resolve the problems. I don't recommend these folks to anyone.

The work was done very well. From the design through execution, Longhorn Lawns folks were great. The one issue I had is they over estimated the materials, especially the limestone chop. Had a ton left over. I asked them to leave it (since I paid for it!) and they did. Also had an issue with the sod they put in, they underestimated it. Had to wait another day to complete the job. I was a little concerned about the health of a couple of the pallets, but generally it grew in OK. I also hired them to do routine yard care. I have absolutely no complaints about the workmanship in that regard. The guys are efficient and thorough. I'll continue to use them. I also intend to hire them to do my spring cleanup and additional landscaping work in the front (using that leftover limestone, that's how far off the estimate was!). Overall I recommend them highly. Good people, good work even if there are some issues with details.

We started with them in 2009 and things went well for a few years, then they got so much new business they couldn't keep up and the quality and punctuality of the service dropped off.

Went well. Had work completed on time. People were nice and thorough.

We have had LL do special things like mulching seasonally and regular lawn maintenance at two locations. They are always on time, prompt and fantastic!

Excellent lawn and yard work each month. We use them all year long and also during the winter months. Julie, Heath and the crew are always super helpful and very nice. Every time we need anything done they are here to help us. I needed a few extra things done and they came and removed some brush piles for us quick and fast. And the crew is always so nice to us. You can tell that the crew really love the work that they do. One of the crew even told me that he left an awesome desk job because he would rather be doing gardening because he loves to garden so much. Great people and wonderful company. J.P. came out and figured a plan that met what I was looking for. He correctly advised me that crushed granite was not the way to go. I really wanted crushed granite but his observations of the yard and it's water drainage was absolutely spot on and I am very glad he pointed this out to me. And I am very happy with the results. So pleased that I have hired them as my mowing service. Definitively less expensive by 1/2 and they do a good job. I had them trim my trees as well. The lawn amd trees have gotten compliments. Again the services are 1/2 of the other estimates and their work is good. They are prompt and do what they say Their are going to do. It is easy ti communicate with them. I watched them work at a neighbors house and decided I wanted to hire them. The neighbors work looks rather exceptional and I look forward to my next project with them.

We have been using Longhorn Lawns for our property since February. Their services have been awesome and our property has never looked better. We have a monthly lawn service contract with them. What makes their services stand out from other landscaping companies that we have used is their attention to detail. The cut the lawn but more importantly they maintain all the landscaped beds that we have on the property. That includes trimming back the plants appropriately and weeding the beds. They pull out any weeds and keep the mulched areas looking great. They pay attention to a lot of the details that make a significant difference in the appearance and health of the plants. They have become our single source for all of our property needs. This includes sprinkler system maintenance - raising heads, checking distribution. Also we recently had out trees trimmed. Always nervous about trimming the trees but the work they did this week is by far the best tree service that we have had in the 18 years in the house. The trees look great and the over growth has been removed to open up some of the back beds. They even left us the wood for some winter fires. This year we also had Longhorn create a landscaping proposal to address some trouble areas on our property. Specifically some areas where grass growth was not really possible due to the trees and shade. Longhorn created a detailed proposal for some additional landscaped beds and Xeroscaping in the side yard with river rock. The materials and plants used were great and the result of the project matched the proposal. We are very pleased to find a single source for all of our landscaping and property needs.

Longhorn Lawns has done great work for us since we moved to Austin two years ago. I'm pleased with the price, professionalism and punctuality, whether by email or appointment/service time and day.

The response to our original call was quick but getting the estimate was a bit slow. However, once we agreed on the schedule their people made it a very good experience. We were told each day what work would be completed as well as what was expected the next day. All of the people on the work crews knew their jobs, arrived on time and cleaned up before leaving each day. Thie people helped us with some ideas that turned out really well. The job began April 30 and was completed in 7 days. They have followed up with us frequently to make certain their work is satisfactory. JP, Juan, John, Heath and their crews are great to work with. We did not expect the edging to be metal strips and shaped by being welded into place. This makes a difference in how the pavers stay in place. When we found we had more grass than we needed for the back, they suggested adding it to the front of the house that was in need. They stripped an area on the front side of the house and layed the grass there. Once we saw the finished back path, we decided we wanted something from the back to the front. One of the crew came up with the idea to use rock and edging that was not as expensive and it turned out great. They were really flexible when we asked for changes.

Wow! The best job ever! What a wonderful company to work with from start to finish. Kara, who came out to give us the bid, was professional and knew how to prioritize the work to stay within the budget. The folks in the office were quick to respond and the crew that came to the house worked so hard to be sure the gardens were exactly as I wanted AND finished in time for the party! Thanks so much for a job well done.

The weekly work is always done efficiently and professionally. No problems dealing with the crew or the work they do. There was some delay in getting prepaid work done: trimming of some huge bushes and putting down mulch. Once it was done, I was happy with the results.

I have only live in this house for about a year and Longhorn Lawns is helping me get the yard in shape one project at a time as well as providing me with bi-weekly mowing services. I am very happy with the service that I get from Longhorn Lawns. They show up when they say they will and preform all the work scheduled. I have never had a complaint or had to call them back. I will continue to use their services and recommend them.

These guys are awesome. We originally hired them because they offered us a really great price for the commercial lawn service we needed. My wife had met the manager, Heath, and really liked him. Throughout our service term, which has been about 8 months so far, they have been extremely professional, punctual, and have transformed our commercial property into the envy of our area. Most importantly to us, the people who work for this company are extremely nice to work with and they seem to really care about their customers. I recommend them absolutely.

Julie and Megan are incredibly nice and write the most friendly, informative emails. I had a couple of little errors in the beginning -- one wrong invoice and a maintenance that was missed due to equipment failure -- but they acknowledge any inconvenience and bend over backward to make sure we're satisfied. The work performed is excellent. So far, my lawns look beautiful and manicured. The men who come out are professional and get straight to work. They are efficient and do their job well. I trust them to be in my yards when I'm not home. I had a couple of Longhorn Lawns landscapers, John Paul (aka JP) and another woman (who I unfortunately cannot remember the name of!), come to my house yesterday to give an estimate on tree grooming and to consult about a landscaping overhaul. They were in my yards for a good long while, using some instruments to take details about the amount of sun certain areas get, general measurements, and other nifty technical stuff. JP gave me his card and said he has many ideas to improve the lawns and will make some sketches and forward pictures of plants for me to select. Exciting! I will revise my post when I can update on how the landscaping goes, if I decide to have them do them work. :)

Heath, Julie and the whole family over at longhorn lawns have been my go to experts for all things lawn since 2009. I recommend them highly, they have great knowledge, great work ethic, and great customer service. Good people doing good work.

Heath came out to review our service needs and give us an estimate, he was very friendly and professional, talked through our options for services and pricing. I decided to use their services and they did a fantastic job cleaning up all the landscaping, were very careful in mowing around a few young fruit trees we had recently planted in the yard and took great care of everything. They bagged all the trimmings as needed and left the house looking fantastic.

Heath did a great job helping me walk through all my lawn questions, requests and concerns. He seems really passionate about his work. Julie and Heather also provided great service on scheduling and followup. Just waiting on a quote for installing a tree in the back and a dog run along the fence line.

Contacted them for an estimate, and they responded shortly after. Came out on time to view and discuss work I was wanting. Sent me an estimate about 1 week longer than he had suggested. They selected all the plants that I wanted and suggested. I tried about 3-4 times to get in touch with them about wanting a change...this happened between writing them a check, mailing it, and the scheduled service. They wouldn't get back to me, and I had to eventually call for the specific person that was assigned my job. He said he changed it and had already sent an updated estimate, but i still haven't received it. After the service was completed with my requested change (thank goodness!) I noticed they left out some of the plants that I had wanted and that were on the estimate I paid already. They also left the steel border sharper looking on a side. I've written them once to ask for the first revised estimate and now there will be a third updated estimate with this mistake of missing plants. I also expressed interest in them coming out to help fix the steel border, but I haven't heard back from them yet, it's only been a few days. Let's hope they fix the steel border at least! Knowing they don't communicate well, I would think again about using them. Although, they're very nice. No one has ever been rude, just...poor communicators. I like the overall product they gave me, it looks really great. Because of that, I'd probably use them again.

I had my dogs in the kennel for work already, so I scheduled a meeting with them to perform the work at the last-minute. As you can imagine (it's spring), they were booked, but found a way to work me in and get the job done. It only took a day, so I only had to pay doggy day care for one day. Excellent!!
