AWEFUL! I had damage to my home from a slow water leak resulting in the need for demolition and installation of my floors. This company was hired through my contractor because of previous work they had completed for him. The contractor was hired through my insurance company. It was an absolute nightmare. First, know that this company does not have a show room, and will bring you samples at will. Often samples brought are cheap products, and not even remotely close to what you ask for. I was unsure about which type of flooring to go with, so I asked my representative her opinion. A generic “whatever you think”. Not very helpful so I went to several other stores and spoke with other representatives. These representatives were able to engage and review the pros and cons of the different flooring options that I was considering. You would think a flooring company would know the differences in the products that they are trying to sell/ install. After speaking with other professionals, I made a decision on a type of flooring. I even chose a manufacturer with a distributor close to where I live. the only thing I was uncertain about was the shade but I had narrowed it down to two different shades. I asked Kaitlyn to bring two samples, one for each shade. I gave her the product name and item numbers to ensure she would bring the correct items. She said she would get back to me that Thursday, but she didn’t. That Friday she said her representative was out of town until Tuesday. Tuesday finally comes and she brings me 5 samples of low quality wood from a company I had never heard of. These samples were nothing like the two samples I had requested? I asked her again to get the two samples that I had requested and that I didn’t want any of her suggestions, just what I asked for. Two days later she comes by and brings only one of the two samples. Frustrated and exhausted, I asked her to just place the order for the product of the sample that she brought by. She confirmed that she would order and let the contractor know so we can schedule a date for demolition and install. She said the product should be in in three business days. I call her a week later and surprise- the product wasn’t ordered. I call the contractor, and he admits the flooring company never notified them to order the flooring, even though the flooring company blamed the contractor. KD Fllors lack of knowledge in flooring is laughable. Kaityln is the representative that I dealt but I have also spoken with the partial owner, Kevin. Kaitlyn said that wood floors don’t need to be acclimated and she has “never heard of that.” Kevin laughed when I asked if floors had to be acclimated for 24- 36 Hours. He said that they have never heard of such a thing. The flooring company was disrespectful and rude. They were incistant that they get flooring “all the time“ from distributers and install on the same day. This could potentially cause void of product warranty. Do your research- according to a representive that I spoke with from the NWFA (national wood flooring association) acclimation of manufactured hardwood varies, but as a rule of thumb, it should acclimate for 24 - 48 hrs minimally (versus real hardwood flooring which can take up to 7 - 10 days). All of this is superceeeded by the manufacturer recommendation. When I asked for it in writing that the wood floors do not need to be acclimated, Kevin said that if “it makes you sleep better at night, we can acclimate it for a whole week if you want, although I have never heard of that.” Agreeing with NWFA recommendations, I explained a week was not necessary, and that 48 hours would be suffice. When it came down to scheduling the demolition & installation, the flooring company allotted for less than 24 hours for acclimation. Once I was informed of this, I called the contractor and explained to him the dilemma. I expressed that if the flooring company wished to proceed against NWFA standards, that they sign a document acknowledging this and have the distributor also sign a document stating that they do not required acclimation. The flooring company then agrees to the 24 hour minimum and schedules demolition on a Tuesday. Tuesday comes around and no one shows up. I receive a text late that evening saying floors and demolition will be Thursday because of the packing and moving of household valuables. Thursday arrives- no one shows up. Friday arrives, no one shows up. Saturday arrives, no one shows up. Monday, I get a letter. On Monday, the contractor says that he needs me to sign a document before we move forward in this project. This being announced as my home is currently in storage (including amenities such as washer, dryer, refrigerator, etc). The letter states that more money is required to float floors. When I ask the contractor to speak with the flooring company for clarification on this excessive pricing, he responded with lies from KD Floors. So why does it cost more? “Because it is not a new locking system that clicks so you have to glue the boards together and that uses more glue. {False-you use a third of the product (glue) and even adding the cost of top line padding, it is still less than what you would spend for glue down. Then they argue labor is more expensive. Once again false. Labor for gluing wood floors and floating wood floors is “typically about the same if you have guys that know what they are doing.” (Direct quote from three of the locally companies that I asked and one flooring expert who is a(n) inspector/installer/distributor). Then, they claim it’s because floating is against the manufacturer recommendations. {Once again false. It is published via the manufacturer and has a manufacturer warranty stating it can be floated.} So KD floors now wants more money to begin the proposed job and wanted me to sign a rediculous new contract with them, instead of the contract with my contractor that was hired by my home insurance agency. The letter also stated if the moisture test revealed readings as “high” (which was not defined in their letter as), that the additional cost for adding a “ water inhibitor” would be at cost to me, the homeowner (versus the contractor or theinsurance company). When discussing glue and product costs and concern for water still being trapped in the foundation, Kevin said he “had a buddy” that makes glue that is water repellent. Sorry, I don’t trust your friends product that he makes at home, and who knows if it would voice warranty or the product. This company’s gross ignorance in flooring standards is appalling. Due to this company’s lack of respect, professionalism, and decorum they lost my business.
