+ 4 moreI just had some major work done on my house to repair the results of a water leak into the walls at my chimney. Yamil repaired the framework, replaced the sheathing and the siding on the chimney and repaired the sheet-rock on the inside of the wall. When Yamil was done on the outside I had an all new chimney and on the inside I had new sheetrock and paint matched so well you can’t tell there was work done. The work was done professionally and the job site was kept clean. He covered the entire work area inside with protective thick paper to keep floors clean and protected during the work. The work area was cleaned each night before he went home. Yamil was friendly and he took pride in the quality of his work. He is an old school craftsman. I would not hesitate to call on him for any home improvement or repair. Work was finished on estimate and on time.

There are so many things that I liked about how he went about his business. 1) When I first called him and explained what I was thinking, he told me that he was really busy at the moment, but if I could wait a little bit, he would get back in touch with me. And he did; he didn't forget me. 2) I was originally thinking that I should replace the entire cedar façade. But Yamil showed me where the rotten wood was and what could still be used to reduce the cost. 3) We had exterior cedar shelving that was imbedded within the rock siding and would have cost quite a bit more to completely replace. Yamil came up with a great idea for using part of the good, existing shelving to serve as an underlying anchor for a larger and stronger looking shelf. His idea was so creative and looks so much better than what originally came with the house. 4) I also appreciate the time he spent with me thinking about and reviewing the stain colors for the cedar façade. He made sure that I would be happy with the result before he started. 5) His first day to work onsite was perhaps the coldest day of the year... we hit 30 degrees at our house that morning. And he was there working early. I would not have minded had he decided to skip that morning for sure, but he had committed to doing the job and he was there. Can't say enough about how happy I was to have found Yamil and happy about the job he did.

+ -1 moreI requested Yamil to paint my vaulted ceilings In living area and kitchen area, which have large beams and lighting fixtures as well as ceiling fans. Yamil and Martin arrived to my home and began by moving furniture into one location and protecting from paint and proceeded to cover entire carpet for protection and masking off required items. When using Yamil and company you have no worries, They are professional and take pride in their work and go above and beyond to take care of your home as if they would their own. Upon completing job they placed all items back into place, vacuumed and except for the wonderful paint job they did, you would never know they were there. If you are looking for a contractor who is knowledgeable, professional and does what he says he will do, He is the man for the job. I stand behind Yamil and company, and look forward to working with him on future projects I need done. As Yamil would say no worries we'll get it done.

+ 1 moreYamil came to my home and I explained everything I wanted to do. He quoted price and I accepted for him to do the work. He scheduled work for the next day and showed up on time. He put down protection for carpeting and deck entrance to home and began work. You could not ask for a more conscience and respectful contractor doing work inside your home. He completed all work and cleaned up and even vacuumed area, finished product was beautiful. I could not be happier with the work he done. Yamil is a true gentleman. He is honest and shows a lot of integrity in his work. He is always smiling and has a wonderful sense of humor also. I have already set up for him to do more work for me. It was a blessing finding him to do the work for me and will be a blessing having him to do future work for me. Great Job, Well done.

+ 1 moreWe tried for weeks to get a more general handyman to perform the work we needed, which was to replace wooden posts along our porches. Finally we gave up and looked to specialists, and I'm so glad we did! Yamil took what seemed to be a small job very seriously, putting in a solid two days of work to completely replace several rotten posts. From start to finish he was prompt and professional, talking over the project on phone, viewing it in person, and emailing a quote in the span of 2 days. He started working early on the following week, explaining his ideas and being upfront about material costs when we decided to upgrade the lumber. He also matched our existing paint perfectly. He was super respectful of our home, neighbors, and yard the entire time. The best thing was the level of craftsmanship--he didn't just replace our posts, he improved them with some really nice details and made sure they were structurally sound, even when that meant repairing other parts of the railing as well. I would 100 percent use Yamil's company again!

+ -1 moreMy company manages projects on behalf of absentee homeowners and our process includes collecting at least 3 bids for any job to make sure the contractors hired are competitive. I don't ever call a company that I wouldn't use if their bid was the most competitive. That being said, I called the owner of Home Improvement and Repair, and left a message, he was quick to return my call but once we started chatting it was clear he did not want my business. He told me his timeline was too tight to bid on a project and he had "real" customers to take care of. Never, ever again will I call him.
Description of Work: I needed a contractor to bid out the work to be done on a partial remodel of a house.

+ 0 moreWhat a great experience working with Yamil! We love the work he did--especially the way he co-partnered with us in the design. The living room shelves are located in a unique area and his suggestions were spot on. The finished product was even better than I had envisioned. If you're a fan of the little things, you'll like this: I was very appreciative of the way Yamil and his worker kept the outside door closed as they came and went to their carpentry equipment. It kept the flies to a minimum and the house as cool as possible. You don't always get that level of consideration. If you're like me, you think "the little things" are indicative of the care people take with their actual work. In Yamil's case, you would be 100% correct. We would definitely hire him again. In fact, we plan to when we start our master bath renovation.

+ 2 moreAfter contacting Yamil, he came to the house. We did a walk thru discussing all the work that I needed done, which was a lot. Yamil was very thorough when discussing what I wanted done. Discussed everything from caulking trim, baseboards, nail holes, items to be removed off the walls before painting all the way to where I wanted them to clean paint brushes, pans, etc. I probably drove him crazy with questions but he never showed it. That night I received an email with his proposal/estimate attached. After agreeing to proposal and starting date, they arrived on time each morning and were on time daily until the project was completed. During the project I found some additonal work that needed to be done. He updated his proposal that night and brought it to me to sign the next morning. He had another job after mine and asked if he could work on Sat and Sunday so he could get the additional work completed. I agreed since the additional work I had requested would extend his workload/timeline and I also wanted it done quickly as possible. They never missed a day until the job was completed except for one day when he had a minor problemwith his truck. He (they) worked very quickly and were receptive to feedback, questions and minor adjustments along the way. The floor in master bedroom and middle bedroom is 2” lower than floor in hall. Yamil was able to transition the 6” baseboards by making slanted cuts on each side where floor changed levels. He was also able to locate bead board that matched the bead board we bought 7-8 years ago. He hung the new bead board where the stripes matched the existing bead board stripes in the living room! He even managed to match the stain on the knotty pine beams to the stain we had put on 7-8 years earlier. He was also able to cut down my shades to fit the new window casings on 4 large windows. He is truly amazing!!! Job started 02/25/16 and was completed 03/17/16. Yamil is pleasant, energetic, humorous and easy to work with. He is a skilled craftsman. Martin who seemed to be his right hand man was also very nice and the best painter I have ever seen. Yamil had other crew members on site as needed. Everyone who came to my house, worked hard. They were all very respectful and pleasant. They cleaned up completely at the end of each day. They even vacumn..
Description of Work: Ceiling and Beams-When we moved into this old home approx. 7-8 years ago, we covered the vaulted ceiling in the living room with bead board and painted it white. There were two 2" x 6" beams paired together across the ceiling. We wrapped these beams with 1" x 6" knotty pine to make them look like one big beam and stained them. We never got around to finishing the ceiling in the hall and 2 bedrooms. I hired Yamil to finish the ceiling in these rooms. He attached trim to existing beams so he could install the bead board. After bead board installed, it was painted. He wrapped all beams with knotty pine and stained them to match rest of house. Note: The center support beam in master bedroom was not installed correctly in master bedroom. He had to reinforce this beam for proper support before he could finish ceilings. Master Bedroom and Hall-These 2 areas were covered in rough cedar including cedar baseboards. Rough cedar removed and replaced with sheetrock and 1" x 6" baseboards. Also replaced trim around doors with wider trim, 1" x 4." Reinforced the top wall plate adding more 2" X 4" on the bottom of each ceiling rafter located on the hall bedroom wall before sheetrock put up. Built a framed opening for AC vent located in master bedroom. Built window casings and window seals for 4 large windows using 1" x 6" and 1" x 4" materials. Relocated electrical outlet from middle of wall to lower part of wall. Taped and floated sheetrock. Textured walls. Caulked trim, window casings, baseboards and all nail holes. Painted walls, doors, trim and baseboard. Middle Bedroom-Relocated electrical outlet to new wall thickness. There were 2 wall mounted lights on each side of the bed. He removed lights and associated wiring from walls. He then eliminated the electrical switch tied to the wiring. The 3 way switch plate was made into 2 way switch plate. Fixed drywall holes in 4 different areas. Removed all baseboards and trim around doors and replaced them with wider baseboard and trim to match other rooms. Caulked and covered nail holes. Painted walls, doors, trim and baseboard. Enlarged cable box located inside the wall behind wall mounted tv. Two Bathrooms and Laundry Room-Removed all baseboard and trim around all doors replacing them with wider trim and baseboard. Removed trim on left side of exterior laundry door and shimmed open area to adjust the door line of open area. Put old trim back on door. Caulked all trim and baseboards, covered nail holes. Painted walls, doors, trim and baseboard. 6 Pocket Doors-All interior doors in this house are pocket doors. They were installed incorrectly and all doors had baseboard blocking the doors from being closed. Yamil cut the bottom baseboard area and installed 1" x6" jambs. Adjusted doors to hang correctly and added missing door bracket trim. Garage Bathroom-Taped, floated, textured walls. Paint
