My air conditioner died on a Friday night in June. I had never even opened an air conditioner before, but I knew if I didn't try, we would all be puddles of sweat by the time we could call a repairman on Monday. YouTube told me I needed a new fan motor, but my options for finding the right one locally on a Saturday were limited. I called Harrell's Supply on Oltorf. Jeff said they had one in stock. He pulled it and put my name on it so it would be there when I arrived. I brought the old one in for comparison and also to ask how I get the fan off the motor without bending it, since even after removing the set screw the fan seemed like it had been Krazy Glued on. Jeff used a special puller tool to remove the fan for me, then spliced the electrical connections from the old motor onto the wires for the new one, and answered questions about the repair (do I still need the booster capacitor with the new motor? Yes I do) and about a strange hissing sound my air conditioner was making (the overheated compressor is venting gas within the system like it's supposed to, nothing to worry about). Jeff has 15 years of experience with heating and AC units, and made sure I knew what I was doing before I left. An hour later the AC was blowing cold again and now my wife thinks I'm a superhero. I hadn't heard of Harrell's Supply before I found them online, but the next time I have a repair like this to do I'm calling them first.
Description of Work: Sold me a fan motor for an air conditioner, removed the fan from my old motor, spliced the electrical connections from the old motor onto the wires for the new one, and answered a bunch of questions about doing the repair myself for the first time.
