The whole process working with Green Collar from beginning to end was very professional and efficient. The process was explained to us in detail in advance, and documentation was very clear. The main office kept us informed of every step. The installers upgraded our attic duct system and added more attic insulation. The installers were very friendly and efficient and cleaned up everything. After everything was done, we got a nice rebate from the City of Austin. Thank you Green Collar!

Green Collar was great. They got the work done, the inspections scheduled and the whole process took so little time. Excellent customer service, quality materials, and we passed inspection without a single problem. Rebates were helpful (not included in total cost below).

These folks were easy to work with. I have little to no experience hiring people to do this kind of work. I had a raccoon ravage the entire attic, ruining the insulation and ductwork. Green collar showed up when they said they would, were very patient with my million questions, and helped me with paperwork I needed for my insurance company. I would recommend these for folks in a heartbeat.

Great! Green Collar did a fantastic job for us. We had a terrible cellulose insulation dust problem that was making us ill. We needed old the cellulose and fiberglass insulation removed, and clean new spun fiberglass blown in to replace it. Also, we really needed our old dozen lighting cans safely dammed (covered), rather than paying a high electrical replacement cost. Because I did not understand nor point out that the original 1970 fiberglass batting squares and old cedar shakes were not visible, but were still underneath the cellulose, I offered to renegotiate the contract with Adam, our project sales supervisor. Adam apologetically renegotiated an adjusted, fair price I was happy with, and fulfilled the really nasty removal part of the job as per our original agreement, getting personally involved in our attic. What a professional! The final result was a great job done. Thank you Adam, and Green Collar Operations. I will happily do business with Green Collar again, and recommend them to friends.

Green Collar was pro from first phone call thru install and replacement of the coils several months later.
Description of Work: We were spending way to much to cool our home. We called Green Collar and a few other companies for an audit and ultimately chose to work with Green Collar. Duct work, tightening of doors, new AC unit, two solar attic fans, and lots of insulation. Our electric bill dropped by half!

Adam Eastwood did a fantastic diagnosis job and the Green Collar team executed splendidly.. Always responsive and on time, I could not ask for a better HVAC team, and I have not found one after 25 years repairing this house. Our home is much, much quieter with much better airflow and it feels cooler already. Time will tell about the dust, but we've already gotten more than our money's worth, and I have faith in Adam that it will work. We know where to go for further remediation if it doesn't, back to Green Collar Operations. This is a 25 year old problem, and not simple to solve. We have tried hard. Adam Eastberg of Green Collar Operations in Austin spent 3 hours with us diagnosing the problem. He is degreed, highly trained, smart and skilled in this process, like no other HVAC consultant we have hired. He diagnosed the issue as insufficient return plenum flow volume, and possible Adam diagnosed our problem infiltration from some part of the return air plenum, and under pressure causing dust suction from the actic into our attic furnace/A/C unit. He prescribed adding an additional return air plenum in a room that had insufficient flow anyway to increase supply, and also moving the intake filter into the attic furnace immediately before the blower fan. The original air intake duct (plenum) had also been very noisy in our music room as well. Brandon Colt and Corey Johnson of Green Collar did the attic duct, vent work and crawl space work, which took an entire day. It included sealing each of our ceiling air grills to the sheetrock.from inside the house to the ceiling. (The attic boots may already been sealed by another contractor, but did not solve our dust problem.) Brandon and Corey were professional and patient enough to clean ancient mold from inside each vent, diagnosed as due to ceiling texture overspray into the ducts way back in 1971. (The mold was dry and no longer a major health issue.) They protected our Asian carpets, and cleaned up after themselves. Young guys, they worked hard and were a pleasure to spend the day around. Adam Eastberg returned the next day to check the work and to rebalance the vent airflow to each room. He did a careful job that took about 90 minutes. Adam said he would remain on call should further flow adjustment be needed.
Description of Work: We have had a long-term problem with fine dust infiltration from our attic cellulose insulation into the upstairs of our 2 story house. Nothing seemed to help, including vent cleaning, duct replacement, furnace replacement. We also had an air extraction unit under our enclosed crawl space under the house, which animals had torn and needed replacement, and an "attic tent" to close off the leaky attic ladder hatch in our second story bathroom.

Beware of this company's fraudulent business practices. A couple of years ago, a friend recommended Green Collar to do an energy audit of the house I'd just purchased. Green Collar did three things when they came. 1. Checked the ductwork for leaks and sealed as needed, 2. Added air dams to canned recessed lights, 3. Added a duct to a bathroom that did not have one. 1. They did a reasonably good job testing and sealing the duct work, although their workers left quite a mess and I had to call them back to clean up. Since that time I've been in the attic for other repairs and found an incredible amount of garbage that their installers left up there. They simply treated the attic as a garbage heap for empty containers. 2. They recommended that air dams be installed around the canned/recessed lights because in their words "you need to keep insulation away from the light housings." This is where I have a major problem. I just had another contractor in to do some repair work and he asked why there were air dams in the attic. I told him that GC had made that recommendation and charged me for installing them. His response was "You have Halo model H7RICT which are rated for direct insulation contact. Adding air dams is not only unnecessary, it significantly decreases energy efficiency." I did a bit of research and he was right. Green Collar recommended, performed and charged for work that was not only unnecessary, but it decreases the energy efficiency of my house. 3. On the duct that was added to the bathroom--that was done, but now that I've had a chance to get in the attic and examine the work I can see that there is an excessive length of flex duct that was used. It's literally twice as long as needed and placed in an awkward position. Extra length of flex duct is another energy waster. It's two years later that I'm finding out what kind of work Green Collar did. I was taken advantage of because I did not have the time to do research on their recommendations. Beware.

Bill was our service contact. He was prompt and very professional. He explained everything in detail. Since we were strapped for cash, he even gave us suggestions on how to save money and possibly do some items ourselves. In the end, we ended up having them add 17" of blown in insulation and resize some of our ducts to maximize airflow. After they were done, we noticed some residual insulation here and there, and when we notified Bill he was quick to respond and willing to come out to recheck the work. It cleared itself up and he never needed to come out, but he was in constant contact with us. Since the work was completed, we have noticed a great improvement.

They were extremely efficient, and most of the work was done in a day and a half. They pulled the necessary permits for the job, and did all the leg work for filing rebates. Additionally, their price was extremely reasonable. I'm very happy with the results of their work. After replacing the ducts and insulation, they balanced the airflow in our home and adjusted our AC unit settings to make the unit more efficient. We had the AC unit replaced 3 years ago by another company, they had left the settings on default so the AC was not working to full capacity. Green Collar took all the necessary steps to make sure that our AC unit and house is energy efficient when it comes to heating and cooling. We used to keep our house at 75 degrees just to make sure our master bedroom was cold enough. We had major hot and cold spots throughout our home. Now our house is set to 80 degrees, and temperature around the house is pretty consistent. Hiring Green Collar to replace our ducts and increase our insulation was not only a great investment for our home, but has made our house a more comfortable place to live in.

Guys arrived early and laid out their plan to me immediately including the new ductwork they were adding that Bill had designed for us (our living room was at least 5-10 degrees hotter than the rest of the house). They were at the house most of the day and worked up in the attic for long stretches (impressive as it was still in the mid 90s that week). Overall the quality was excellent and they knew what they were doing. To my surprise after all was done and the guys had left, I got a call at the end of the day that the owner wanted to stop by and ensure I was happy with the end product and inspect their work. Rob came by early the next am and inspected all of their work. I figured since he was there I'd mention the one minor detail about the weather stripping by the front door where it wasn't playing nice with the door handle. Low and behold he went out to his truck, grabbed a couple tools and fixed it to allow the door a snug fit with the weather stripping. I plan to use these guys again in the future when my AC kicks the bucket.

Everything went really well. I was a little shocked about the price, but after watching them work and saw everything they did, I feel like I got my money's worth. The first guy that came over immediately saved me 40% off my future bills by just looking at them and informing me that I was paying .18 per kw! So without even doing anything, they already saved me a ton of money. After the fixes were done, and the invoice was paid, the owner still came by to do a final inspection. He fixed the door that was weather sealed partially incorrectly, and even fixed the door to the A/C unit closet to make it shut properly. I was impressed that a contractor really did come back and do a walk through to make sure I was happy AFTER they had already been paid. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone.
Description of Work: added insulation in both attics, weather sealed back door, fixed vent that was disconnected to Plenum, added additional intake vent for one of the ac units, and fixed the caved in ceiling around the top of the same unit. They also re-screened on one of my gables in the attic - free of charge.

What makes Adam with Green Collar so outstanding that I'm writing a review is not just that he provided an estimate for a new HVAC system (we wound up not needing one after all but when ours truly dies, we will use Green Collar) but that he also looked at our complete system including duct work. He looked at the square feet of our house on each floor, he looked at the duct work to see if it was adequate, and he even looked at our first floor HVAC system even though it was only a year old to make sure the two systems would work synergistically as a whole for our entire house. What I love about Green Collar is that they are not a new company, they have been in the business a long time, and that they do not do maintenance. We had been told by a maintenance company (that gives bonuses to their service people if they can make any upsales) that we needed an entirely new system and they would be happy to provide us with one. Instead, I called Adam who was wonderful and even called us later when he found an additional discount. However, I finally found a service technician who does not sell new equipment and just services the HVAC components. That technician told me that alhtough my upstairs system was old, that there was nothing wrong with the system and there was no reason to upgrade an entire system when my furnace was perfectly fine. (The prior company made me sign a waiver after they "maintained" my furnace saying that they were not responsible for property damage or loss of life.) So, now I will only use companies like Green Collar who only sell new systems and don't do maintance. They rise above the potential for a conflict of interest.

Brad Sage from Green Collar Operations was punctual, knowledgable and quite patient with all my questions. He clearly explained what he was recommending and why. He also explained what work was not necessary. He handled all arrangements with the city inspector and the $500 city rebate paperwork. On top of all that, he was quite responsive via email.
Description of Work: Green Collar Operations was referred to us to help prepare for Austin Energy's "Comprehensive" Testing in order to qualify for solar panel rebate. Green Collar Operations is a company certified by the City of Austin to perform inspections concerning electrical power use. I used them on reference from a close friend who recently used them. They follow a city developed checklist and procedures to determine the efficiency of your building for heat transfer. Mine is 35 years old. They made recommendations for upgrades to include tripling attic insulation from 6 to 18 inches, installing new weather strip on all exterior doors, resealing all locations where penetrations occur on exterior walls, installing a new new HVAC system thermostat, recaulking all windows. improving HVAC air return, installing 2 solar power roof fans, and sealing air duct leaks. Then they conducted air infiltration tests and their work resulted in 95% efficiency. The City is involved at every step in the process, and approves everything to unclude final inspection and sign off. Partial rebates are then provided by the City and Gas service. I Liked the owner and his staff and their service and hired them to do the upgrades. I can't provide an accurate cost until the rebates arrive. Total will be near $2500. The solar roof fans are manufactured locally, are lion's share of cost, and increase investment payback time considerably. Green Collar was upfront and explained and helped me calculate different pay back scenarios until I was satisfied. I'm hoping for 10 to 15% reduction in electricity use this year and thereafter. A "no hassle" experience for me. P.S. Visit with Austin Energy for recent city energy efficiency requirements for home sales. My HVAC system is new enough that it meets current EE ratings and no "fixes" were recommended. Had it not met them and if I chose to spend more, further rebates were available.

I live in Austin and I am installing a Solar PV Power system. A house efficiency check is required to get the rebates for the solar power. I had the right amount of insulation, so the needed work was sealing the AC ducts, caulk where ever pipes break a wall, renew the weather striping doorseals, and put a cover over my whole house fan vent. After the work they did a air leakage test. Green Collar was very efficient at getting the work done in a timely basis. They worked well with me and the city inspectors to finish up the work. The Green collar people were all great to work with. The city of Austin picked up much of the tab and my house is now very leak free. ...and I can proceed to the rest of the Solar power process.

If you are trying to navigate Austin Energy's weatherization and air conditioner rebates and you are confused all I can say is give Green Collar a call and ask for Adam E. Adam showed me how much money I could save and the overall estimate for replacing two complete HVAC units, attic duct work, and weatherization is either the same or less than all of the other estimates I have received. Plus Adam has showed me how not waste money on varying products. My first thought when I saw Adam was that he is too young to know much or care about explaining anything to a middle age woman. To my surprise Adam possesses an amazing amount of knowledge, has been extremely responsive to all communication, extremely polite, and very professional. So far my experience could not be better. I am in the process of working out the finances, but there is no doubt I will be using Green Collar for the work. The approximate cost for two top of the line Trane units (entire units) and other work will be about $17,000 with also includes insulation, duct work, and solar attic fans. Rebates and tax credits will bring the amount down ~$13,200. Without Adam?s guidance I would have forfeited ~1/3 less in rebates and tax credits on the work. I will update this review once the work is complete.
