Glass was great. The guys who came out were quick and stayed in budget. I would use them again. My only critique would be communication with the office. It took forever to get the quote followed by a lack of notice on when the guys would show up. Fortunately for me, they were early. But had I been told that they were coming, I would have had my pump house ready for them. That said, the guys went above and beyond to take care of my wife and toddler and got us in water faster than the other companies that quoted us. I saw that they had a lower rating on Angie's list than the other guys, but they had a better BBB rating than the others, came highly recommended by people we know, and were cheaper than every other quote. They used less material than they quoted and I feel like they were honest with me in every part of the project. I'm glad I used them and I would hire them for any other well project that I do.

Description of Work: I've used Glass Well Service many times over the past 25+ years when I had problems with my well. They always gave accurate estimates for the work to be done and were competent, knowledgeable and professional. Things I've had done by them: installed a new well pump; installed an above ground pump for a rainwater system; replaced the above ground pump after it froze one cold night when the electricity went out; installed a pump saver on the well pump; consulted on options when my well went dry during the drought. I will definitely use them in the future.

I had been told by our warranty company that the problem with our water was not the softener, but rather the filtration system. We do not have a filtration system. So we called Glass Well Service and our problem was solved. We live in an area where our well water has a high mineral content but since the replacement, everything seems to be working fine.

The first time they came out I sent them a key to the well shed and they repaired things while I was gone for a few months. They kept me completely advised of when they came out and what they did. The second time they arrived as scheduled and did the repairs promptly. I feel their charges were fair.
Description of Work: Glass Well Service came to our home twice. We had just bought a home that has its own well, and we had no idea if it was drinkable water and how well the pump was working (we live outside city limits, so there is no building code protection out here). They came out right after we bought the house to check the water quality, replace the clorinator and repair a leaking valve, and explain a few things to me. A few months later they came out again and flushed a water retention tank and put on a new valve. They are extremely knowledgable, did the repairs quickly and correctly, and left us with a feeling of confidence that all was well with our well.

1/9/2012 UPDATE Thank you, Delton, for your response here on Angie's list. As a consumer, it is very challenging when we do our best to get good information. You can understand I'm sure the concerns and confusion that can arise from multiple water professionals noting without prompting the fiberglass tank being used for/with the chlorinator. i appreciate you taking the time to follow up and offering the option for tank removal and am sorry about your head injuries and hope you are healing well. Since my original post, Delton called my husband (his number is on record) and let him know the other uses of a sediment tank separate from for chlorination and gave him the name of the local fiberglass tank company (not sure if they were the manufacturer or what, but they know about the tanks) to call and ask questions. See the "Provider Response" for more details on the sediment tank potential uses. We had used Glass Well Services this past summer and had a good experience. This time we had a leak in a tank, the fiberglass sediment tank, which Glass replaced. When the replaced fiberglass tank did not fix the issue, they ran additional tests and gave us a quote for follow-up work on the pump and potentially pressure tank to resolve the issue. The techs explained the quote and potential worst-case repair scenarios. Delton had extenuating circumstances with a severe injury when I called to his office with follow up questions on the sediment tank, which may explain some of the interaction during that time. I do get the feeling he does take time to answer customer questions, plus the pricing is affordable.
Description of Work: Replacement of the 80-gallon sediment tank. It is a fiberglass tank that stand around the same height as the pressure tank and is fiberglass. We also got a quote to have the pump and pressure tank replaced.

Response from GLASS WELL SERVICE CO
Hello Member, I do apologize to you about having a negative outlook with our company. The fiberglass tanks are used as well on heavy sediment wells. We have removed these off the system before, a few times, and have had customers unhappy because they were seeing dirt and spots in their washing machines. Since this was on the system we wanted to leave it on. It wasn't in our records that we installed this tank, we had no reason for why this tank was installed since the chlorinated wasn't connected. A chlorinator is usually installed between the well and the pressure tank with no other tank installed and this set up works correctly to treat the water. The only time a fiberglass or epoxy tank is installed is if the customer request that set up or the well has extremely high sulfur smell. This allows the water and chlorine solution time to eliminate the sulfur issues. I suffered a major head injury on Dec. 1st. and spent a few days in ICU. I spoke with you on my 1st or 2nd day back in the office. I do apologize if you felt I was unkind in any way. I try and explain things and take time with customers, our conversation was just basic questions. We knew your husband had called in about the pressure tank being bad or leaking. So the techs loaded up a pressure tank and headed over. They arrived on site and noted it was a fiberglass tank and called in and had one special ordered. The system was fully checked out on the return trip when the fiberglass tank was installed, that was when we did the full physical on the system and made y'all aware of the issues found. Let us know if you wish to have the sediment tank removed. This does serve a purpose with keeping the sediment down in the house, if we remove this you may have issues down the road. Thank You for making me aware of your thoughts. Delton Glass

Bought a house near Austin, TX, that had its own well. The water was gray and smelled like rotten eggs. When I had the inspection done on this property before I bought it the inspector said he thought the chlorinator was bad. Also there was a leaking filter between the well and the water softener. I had to leave town 3 days after I bought the house and wanted that well checked out and fixed before my return home about a month later. I contacted Glass Well Service and asked if they would take care of it while I was out of town. They called me back and said that was fine and explained that they would call me before they went out there and then call me again once they knew what was going on. I sent some keys to them and they looked at the well and gave me an; estimate on repairs. A few days later they installed the new chlorinator, filter, and pressure gauge. They also sent two water samples to a lab to test for bacterial contaminants. The cost was very close to the original estimate, and I'm very happy that I will not have to return to a house with such terrible water! They kept me advised every step of the way. I will call them for all my future well issues!
Description of Work: Had a new chlorinator and a new filter installed for my well. Had a rusted pressure gauge replaced. Had water quality tested.

Everyone arrived on time and worked their butts off in 105 degree weather. I had a problem the first night with the booster pump due to a faulty existing valve in my pump house. I emailed Delton at 11:30 pm that night, had a reply back in 7 minutes, and they replaced the valve the next morning without charge.
Description of Work: Last year when my well pump died I had Delton install a new pump and, on his recommendation, a pumpsaver (a device which turns off the pump when the well is dry so the pump doesn't die). In August with the drought some of my neighbors were running out of water so I called Delton to put in a 2500 gallon external storage tank and a booster pump. Both times the teams were prompt, hardworking, and got everything working. Now that my well has been dry for a month I have relied solely on the tank which I am having refilled by truck every 2 weeks. My well pumps into the tank and the booster pump pumps water out of the tank into the house - so even if the well is dry as long as water is in the tank I have water in the house. A big thanks to Glass Well Service for getting me out of a jam and for great service. I would strongly recommend them for well work. Now I just need some rain!

Delton Glass answered my initial questions and provided an accurate estimate for a well in our back yard. A separate 30A 220V electrical feed for the pump was installed (not by Glass). Drilling was scheduled and performed with no complications. The two very large trucks involved just barely fit in the area - some tree trimming was required to get them down the driveway. Pump and piping was installed, and the well is producing very good water. Final price was a couple hundred dollars less than the estimate.
Description of Work: A 240 foot deep well was drilled, and a 15 gpm pump installed, with pressure tank, pump controller and pump motor protector.

My experience with Glass Well Service Co. was fine. We communicated through emails. They knew the area a pretty well, so they were able to give me a quote without coming out to look at the property. They were very prompt in responding back to my emails, which was helpful. I will contact them in future if need arose.

They had to come out twice to make sure it wasn't a simple electrical problem. It wasn't. They showed me on their voltmeter that the electrical was good. Then they pulled about 250 feet of pipe and the pump wouldn't come out. Again, they showed me the problem. As they were pulling the pump, it was snagged sufficiently to make the truck lean with the force of the lifting pressure. By spending extra effort, twisting and cajoling the pump, they were finally able to get it out. Rather than just keep mum and make the money, the owner recommend I not try to change the pump (which was clearly defective with wires stretched to the breaking point). His reasoning was that if we stopped now, the bill would only be about $400, but if we tried to shove a new pump through the sticking point, there was a good chance we would lose the cost of the new labor, pipe fittings and pump, bringing the potential loss to me at about $3000. I found Mr. Glass to be trustworthy and quite smart about his business. He told me his family had owned this company through five generations, plenty of time to pass down a lot of hard-earned knowledge. Highly recommended, and I will be using Glass Well Service again, especially since they are also doing rainwater collection.
