I had read some negative reviews about this place on the internet, but decided to check them out anyway. I'm glad that we did, as that was not our experience at all. From checking out and returning tile samples, to helping with information, and answering questions, Floor & Decor staff were excellent! We ended up buying the tile from their new location on IH-35 and Parmer Ln., and the staff here were just as helpful--they even helped us to load the tile boxes into our car. Another good thing is that they will buy back any unused items, which gave us peace of mind to get a couple of extra boxes, just in case.

Here's the bottom line, their prices are good. I shopped and found they were competitive, especially on travertine. Their service is not good. So, if they have what you want and you can just pick it up, it's probably ok. If you have issues, it's not worth it. I originally bought porceline tile from them. It was reasonably priced. Frankly, I found deals as good elsewhere. But, I liked a particular tile I found there. Everything seemed fine until we got part way through the job and we started opening boxes that were a different color. So, I took the wrong colored boxes back. They said they had somehow got mixed together. Ok, things happen. No bid deal. But, then they realized they were out of the color I had purchased. They told me they would find it and order it. I heard nothing from them. After a couple weeks I called them back. That seemed to create action. They found it within a day or so. A couple more weeks passed before I got a phone call saying it was there. Well, by that time my installer was busy on another job. One thing lead to another between him being busy and me being busy. A few months passed and I went to pick it up. They informed me that there was this huge storage fee because it had been sitting there. I explained to them what had happened. Nothing. I explained again saying that originally I had picked it out and taken it home that same day. It was only sitting there because they gave me the wrong thing and then took over a month to replace it. They didn't care. They wanted a several hundred dollar storage fee despite the entire problem stemming from their screw up. Plus, they didn't even have it anymore. It had been shipped somewhere else. So, I left p*****. Now, I had a bathroom to finish and a kitchen that still needed to be done. Problem was, I couldn't even find matching tile for the bathroom that was 80% done. I decided my only option was to start over in the bathroom and just find a different tile for the kitchen. I decided I really wanted travertine in the kitchen. So, I started shopping. While I found other places were as cheap or cheaper on tile, travertine was clearly cheaper there. I just couldn't go buy it there. But, I couldn't justify paying way more elsewhere either. So, I went there, bought what I wanted, bought plenty of extra, inspected every box to make sure it was right. I had it installed and it is wonderful. I then returned the extra and that went smoothly. Overall, the second time around everything went smoothly. I had an unbelievable slow and incompetent guy I had to wait on to bring it out to load. But, that could happen a lot of places. When it asked me if I would use this company again, I originally put no. Then I realized I had used them again after the first experience. So, I guess the answer is only if I couldn't find it for the same or close to the same price somewhere else.

The wood floors were installed without incidence. They looked great. Unfortunately 2 months later the floors started shrinking and discoloring on the edges. I contacted Floor and Decor for a "Warranty Claim". They said I would have to hire a "Certified Wood Floor Inspector" and provide them the report. The report stated that (1.) The "Material was defective" and (2.)the i nstaller did not use enough nails. The inspector also stated that the material was in fact shrinking and noted the discoloration along the ends. It was inferred that the product was not adequately kiln dried (F&D owns the rights to ECO Floors but farms the material out to China) The material continues to shrink and more areas are becoming discolored. They now want to say it is my fault for allowing defective material to be installed. Floor and Decor refuse to stand by the warranty and want to blame wood shrinkage and continued discoloration on the installer and me. They required me to hire an inspector than ignore the "MATERIAL DEFECT". In my opinion, they do not provide honest warranty and sell defective material. If you GOOGLE them you will find many similar stories regarding their lack of warranty and many unhappy customers.

They did not perform any services. They were knowledgeable about their product and they had good prices. They were professional. I wouldn't say they were extremely professional. It was easy to get help. They loaded everything for us and we didn't have any problems loading everything. I would use them again in the future if the situation arose.

I will NEVER shop there again-classic bait & switch on solid hardwood floors. They mixed up their displays showing a floor under the wrong name-a floor I specifically said I did not want due to the "patchwork quilt" effect from all the different colors otherwise known at Floor and Decor as "rustic" (a fact that I didn't realize until after the 2nd wrong floor). The sample floor I selected had the name "rustic" on the display but it was NOT the rustic floor that I was after-Floor and Decor's mistake. I didn't realize the mistake until the installers arrived to start. At this point the wood had been in my house for 5 days so it could acclimate. All my furniture was outside in 100+ degree heat. I went back to Floor and Decor and finally convinced the wood "manager" that I had not changed my mind but in fact it was the wrong wood. The managers and individual associate involved knew I was objecting to the multi-color effect. When they realized their error they offered me another floor which they had originally said they did not offer any longer-anywhere. The second floor was in San Antonio and after a lot of complaining I got the installer (a different company) to make the 3+hour round trip to pick it up and deliver it to me that same evening so we could begin the acclimation process. It never occurred to me that they would do the same thing again. The second floor, while a different wood, also had the "rustic" name on the box but the sample that was shown to me at the store did not have that "patchwork" effect-the store display for this 2nd floor measured roughly 6'x6'-not a small display. (If in fact the display is the same wood, I imagine they cherry picked the wood to make this display seem more homogenous). After the 2nd floor was delivered I opened up several boxes and was satisfied it was pretty much the same color of wood-pretty much because wood will never all look the same. 2 days later when the installers again arrived and started installing the 2nd floor I realized it was the same thing-patchwork. Back to Floor and Decor to complain at which point everyone got very defensive. After looking through their selection I decided I would cherry pick through what had been delivered and cull out the most offensive boards. Floor and Decor would then sell me more boards after another 3-4 days to ship it from San Antonio and another minimum of 2 days to acclimate. I wasn't able to cull out enough boards to even cover one room. Suffice it to say I received no satisfaction from the company. With all my furniture outside in the weather and a 4.5" rainstorm that came through Austin I could not delay any longer and was forced to install a floor I specifically did not want. This was my mistake. My belongings were taking a beating but in retrospect I should have had what was laid ripped up and used another supplier. No customer service but even worse, a disreputable company. I would gladly have paid twice the price for a floor. They're a recipe for what not to do in business - Deceptive trade practices including bait and switch, poor quality control and the worst of service after the sale. You could make the argument that it was simply a mistake-maybe so but in my 3 visits to Floor and Decor to try to iron this thing out they had yet to rectify the "mistake" display until today (9-8-2010) when I made the observation to them for the 3rd time! Deceptive Trade Practices. It's not a good deal-whatever the price-it's not a good deal.

Response from Floor and Decor Outlets of America Inc
This customer was provided the opportunity to have an alternate floor installed. The installers had installed approximately 200 square feet of material when the customer decided she did not like the way the floor looked. We offered to remove the flooring that had been installed and allow the customer to select an alternate product at no additional charge to the customer. After visiting the store and looking at her options, she decided to continue with the existing installation, which was completed. ONLY after the install was complete did she again contact us with her "issue". The customer was able to see what this floor looked like prior to the installation being performed. While we would have had no issue with a refund or exchange at the initial stop point, we feel that since the customer allowed the project to continue that she accepted the material. We did offer the customer a discount on this material, as well as on a replacement floor if she so opted. Thank you for the opportunity to respond.
