Friendly Heads-Up: DO NOT use Encore Mechanical - they are incompetent and they are liars. Encore has been a joke since we moved in last year. First, we learned that they installed an exhaust flap incorrectly upside-down during construction to where it’s constantly hanging open at all times. It took them multiple trips to diagnose and then be honest about the issue, and then they tried to explain why it doesn’t fall into the warranty even though they initially admitted that they absolutely installed it upside-down. Second, on THE hottest day so far of the year a couple of weeks ago, our A/C started having issues. Encore was called and they said they could come the next morning. We have been isolating since late Feb because my father almost died of the flu and is EXTREMELY high risk (we need to still be able to go to him, help him, etc…), so we’d discussed with Encore that we would prefer for them to check everything outside first, and then only come inside if necessary. They said that would be no problem. First guy of the day arrives, he is nice, but absolutely incompetent. Changes a part on the roof, decides he NEEDS to come inside to check the temperatures, never checks in the inside unit (even after telling me he likes colder air coming out), declares it fixed but says give it some time, and then leaves. We give it a couple of hours, it’s still not getting any cooler inside…still just blowing warm air. I call Richard, the Encore Service Manager (who is also incompetent). He sends a second person out (more unnecessary exposure that we’re not excited about…but ok). Second guy calls on the phone, and I can immediately tell he is joke. So unprofessional. He calls me from the roof and says everything looks ok up there and starts to launch into some ridiculous and baseless excuse trying to describe to me the science of radiant heat. Keep in mind it’s 80-82* in our apartment right then. When I nicely remind him that we lived here last summer on days just as hot, had no issues with the a/c at all, and that JUST next-door in a unit literally a wall away (same top floor, etc…) they have their (exact same unit) set at 68* and it’s doing great…he tells me he needs to call Richard. I wait 20 minutes not hearing anything. I call Richard and he tells me that the second guy left already because I refused to let him come inside and check the inside unit. I said, “WHAT? He never even asked to come inside and check the inside unit, and you know that I wouldn’t be excited about that but we just had the guy from this morning come inside so why would I deny this guy? That’s ridiculous.” At that point Richard told me that his company had done their “due diligence” and that I should find another a/c company. I asked Richard, “Your due diligence is not even checking the inside unit? And now you’re going to let your second guy lie to you? WOW.” Hottest day of the year thus far and Encore Mechanical wasted an entire day with their incompetence and lies. Thankfully, we were able to call Travis @ Wise Energy (512.845.2940) and he was PHENOMENAL. He immediately diagnosed the compressor on the roof, changed it out, and our a/c has been working perfectly since. So basically, Encore is SO INCOMPETENT that they will even miss parts that could make them a lot of money. ***This is NOT the first time our building has had issues with Encore. Like I said, they have been a JOKE since we moved in last year, and their consistent pattern of extreme incompetency with so many of the tenants here has been unbelievable. We are SO GLAD OUR BUILDING DROPPED THEM AND WE WILL NEVER HAVE TO DEAL WITH THEM AGAIN! ;-) SAVE YOUR TIME AND YOUR MONEY! Call Travis/Wise Energy or someone else instead! Ps...I have saved screenshots of the conversation with Richard, so if anyone wants proof I have it ready to send. DO NOT GIVE ENCORE YOUR BUSINESS. FIND A LEGIT COMPANY WHO CARES.
