About us

Health and safety are always our highest priority. In light of COVID-19, we are taking extra measures -- including social distancing and increased PPE/sanitation procedures -- to protect the health of our community and team as we continue to provide service. In short, you can expect the same great service but with some modifications for the protection of all involved. We are a local, family-owned business that has been serving the greater Austin area since 1976. Over the last 40+ years, we have built a reputation for providing high-quality, comprehensive HVAC, electrical and plumbing service. We employ experienced, full-time technicians and don't use subcontractors, so you can expect consistently great quality and service whenever you call us. In addition to receiving extensive training before working independently, all of our technicians must pass a background check, drug test and random drug screening, which many other companies do not require. We hold our employees to the highest standards in order to provide you with the highest level of service. We service and install all brands of air conditioning, but we are proud to be a Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer and a two-time winner of the Carrier President's Award for excellence.

I purchased Angie's deal for two hours of electrical work. David did the work within two hours. He worked very quickly and was super nice. I asked him some questions not related to the job he had just completed and he took the time to answer my questions in detail. I would definitely use Efficient Air & Electric again.

David was prompt, polite and professional. He took the time to explain the problem with my patio light so that I can most likely install that one myself. At the end of the appointment, I asked him about another appointment to check some of the outlets in my house, describing the problem. He made several suggestions for me to try first but assured me that he would be happy to come back and check them out himself if I felt unsure about doing it myself. This appointment was a reschedule from another company that Angie's List helped me with when the first company didn't follow through. David's supervisor called me to schedule the appointment before I even had the chance to call them. I appreciate their promptness and sense of responsibility. I like to use the same professionals over and over again, establishing an ongoing relationship with them. Given the overall service I received from Efficient, I will definitely use them again in hopes of having finally found a company that I can turn to in the future with any problem.
Description of Work: David installed 2 exterior lights in the front of my house and troubleshooted on my patio. I have to replace that one but he took time to make sure the problem was with the old light and not my wiring from the house.

This guy rocks! He thought things through from A-Z, finished the job and cleaned up after himself. I think he was very overqualified for doing my small job but it was done perfectly.

David, did an excellent job replacing a faulty switch and explaining clearly the work that was done. He was extremely professional, arrived on-time and finished the work with great quality. We discussed some future work and he described exactly what he would need to do and how long it would take with very reasonable price. Given the great work he did, I highly recommend Efficient Air Conditioning & Electric, and will personally use them in the future.

The first time they came out, they were not able to do the work as we had placed the hot tub in an area that would have cost too much to run the electric to. So, we moved it and had them return. The work was done well and timely. They sent 2 guys out for our call and we paid the hourly x2 because of it. We were not thinking that the work was going to cost as much as it did, so we were a bit surprised by that, but I don't think that was their fault. We did a lot of our own work to cut down their labor, like digging our own trench for the lines and covering it back up. We actually had to dig twice as the first time was not to code. So, at least they checked our work :)
Description of Work: We needed electric run out to a free-standing hot tub.

The electrician that came to my house (right on time; amazing) David was professional, knowledgeable, and the work he did was 100% on the mark. Lately I have lowered my standards to only expect 75% of the job to be performed correctly, however David work was 100%. I am so pleased with all David did in the 2 hours allotted time, I was truly amazed. I would use this company and recommend them to any friend of mine in a heart beat. GREAT JOB DAVID, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE WONDERFUL JOB.

David and his helper were very efficient. David is an experienced electrician and explained to me everything he was doing and why. Since this was a Big Deal, the company had told me to supply the parts we thought would be needed. So everything they did was covered by the Big Deal. I would definitely use this company again, and especially David. When they were working on the floodlight outside, they even found and killed 5-6 big wasp nests under the eave on the side of the house that I had not noticed. Now, that is service!
Description of Work: I bought the $99.00 Big Deal for 2 hr electrical work. They replaced an undercounter light that would not work, changed out a GFI outlet that was not working, identified what some unknown switches were for, changed a floodlight bulb and checked out an outlet that I was having trouble with.

I purchased a package of 2 hours for $99. Because of the amount of work that I needed, they ended up staying an additional 5 hours. David, the lead, was very helpful in helping me make some decisions that I wasn't comfortable with in the beginning. I was very pleased with their professionalism as well as their work and would definitely use them again.

I was disappointed that all I needed to get fixed wasn't. He left way before the time was up and told me he was just a Journeyman electrician and that his boss who was a Master Electrician was needed to trouble shoot the reason the lights go dim in the whole house when we turn on appliances. He did not install the two dropped pendant lights and said I would need a part from home depot to put in the ceiling above the light fixtures to stabilize them. It was listed on the what I need done sent to them. If I needed those special parts they should have told me before hand. He left with about 45 minutes left of paid time. He took a long time to look at the connection on the stove. I just needed to know if it was plugged in right or hardwired in and if it was done correctly. The stove makes an odd clicking sound the whole time the oven is on. I wanted to make sure there wasn't a short in the wiring to the house.
Description of Work: He fixed a short in the kitchen light fixture and checked to see if the stove connection was correct.

I need to pay more attention to the names of those who come over to work on our house! Everything was professionally handles from setting up the appointment to electrician's work. My husband had attempted to hang up 3 bathroom lights. In his defense, they are rather large and heavy. But he did something and created a short. The gentleman who came over put the last 2 up and fixed the last one. He also put up a smoke detector in one of bedrooms. It was well worth the $99 Angie's Deal. We have other things that need to be done in the new house and will definitely call them.

I returned from vacation to find my a/c not working properly. I called Efficient and they were able to send a tech out that afternoon. He diagnosed the unit and found that a capacitor was not functioning. After replacing the capacitor (total $260 for capacitor and service call), the a/c seemed to be working okay. Alas, later in the day, it again was not functioning. Same problem, i.e., the thermostat would kick on the unit but it was not blowing in the house. I sent Efficient an email that evening just to let them know that I was still having the problem. Wow, talking about responsive. Even though it was fairly late in the evening, I got a phone call from them (went to voice mail since I had turned off my phone) and an email. Before 8a.m. the next day the technician called me. Lo and behold, the a/c was working again that morning so I told him let's wait and see. Sure enough, the a/c stopped working as soon as it cut off and so I called the tech. He was out fairly promptly and went back to diagnosing the problem. Turns out it was a short in the motor, which required a new motor. When I asked about the capacitor I already paid for, I was told the capacitor was not good so it needed replacement anyway. Had to take his word for it on that. The new motor costs me another $600+ (no service call charge). Yikes! More than I expected to pay since this is just a 3 ton unit and the total I paid ($1000) is close to 1/4-1/3 the cost of a whole new installed unit. But the unit is working great now. I can't really evaluate whether I needed the capacitor or whether the price I paid was reasonable - just seemed a little high to me. Still, Efficient was great responding and kudos to the service tech - he was a really pleasant guy. This is a company that is very serious about making their customers happy! UPDATE 9/5/14: About a week after my previous review, the a/c stopped working again. So here's the update: Although they have been responsive and I understand that some problems are hard to diagnose , I must change my ratings on this company. After spending almost $1000, the problem is still NOT fixed. The same issue is occurring and it is no doubt a puzzle as it is intermittent. After my review above, I thought it was fixed but NOPE, problem happened again (outside unit comes on but the inside blower does not....sometimes). Efficient sent another tech out, who seemed very knowledgeable but he could not diagnose the issue. Of course by time he came out the unit started working again so he was unable to observe the problem "in action." But, here's my problem: I spent a lot of $$$ for nothing and neither "fix" fixed the problem. Seems to me that you call a professional because well... they are a professional and can get the job done. This is one of those cases where you don't really know what is the "right" thing to do but I just think that if I put myself out as a professional and was unable to professionally fix the problem, I'd feel mighty bad about charging a customer almost $1000 to not fix the problem. FINAL UPDATE (I hope) I don't want to write a negative review for these guys because they were very responsive and tried. But when you call a professional, you expect the problem to be correctly diagnosed and fixed, not keep trying until something works. Bottom line: I am certain the problem was never in my motor which was replaced on visit #2. But I paid $600 to have a new motor installed. As my previous reviews explain, the problem was not fixed. I did a little research on the internet and it seemed that with the symptom I was having, the problem was clearly the relay. Sure enough, when they sent out their guy, that is what he figured out. I've given it a few weeks now since the relay switch was replaced and the unit has worked fine since. No way the motor was the problem. And that's my beef. I spent money that was unnecessary. A motor is a whole lot more expensive than a relay switch. (As for the first issue: the capacitor, it was testing under tolerance so was probably going out; therefore, I am not as upset about that repair) They did not charge me for the relay switch repair (if they did, this review would have been much worse!) and I don't think they were trying to rip me off at all. I am just wondering why a professional would think it is the motor without considering the relay (which which when I looked on the internet seemed the obvious problem).

The original electrician several years ago did so many things wrong, it's hard to to know where to begin. He did not use exterior junction boxes (thus rust and water - dangerous), and the GFI breaker was not a GFI breaker at all. He ran two different gauges of electrical wire. Enough about a bad electrician. David B. and Sergio came out today and did the following: replaced all piping except under the cement/flagstone stairs, Replaced all L and j boxes, pulled new wire. Replaced and moved bail box to more accessible location; replaced receptacle and doogle switch; replaced existing braker with GFCI breaker. Fountain pump and lights now working properly and circuit is GFI protected. This was a complex job and my handyman had to dig out basically a tunnel under the deck (removing dirt and boulders last week) so David could even access the bad j box. The job took longer than expected because even the way the wrong breaker was wired was done improperly. David had to leave the job and purchase the right GFI breaker and came back and finished the job. I'm extremely satisfied with the expertise, professionalism and how hard the two men worked to revolve the problems. Having the fountain operational again is so soothing and now I know it was done by true craftsmen who know what they are doing. David took the time to explain what all the problems were and how he repaired them and even coiled up the two power cords behind the fountain so they are out of sight. I'm nominating this company for the Page of Happiness. Anyone needing honest, and correct electrical work done, in my opinion, will not go wrong by hiring these people.
Description of Work: A lot. I was having a problem with my waterfall fountain tripping the GFI breaker. My handyman diagnosed it as a ground fault so I got Efficient AC and Electric from Angie's List. They came out and diagnosed the problem was much more. I was under a time pressure as I'm getting the house ready to put on the market (moving to Virginia to be close to family). They were able to schedule me within the week (which I am so grateful for).

I called Efficient Air Conditioning at 730 in the morning because my AC wasn't cooling as well as it used to. They took my info, let me know they would put me on the schedule and that someone would likely be out there mid-morning and that they'd call with 30 minutes notice. Sure enough, a super nice tech came out (cannot recall his name) and let me know that based on the situation, he would guess low coolant. He explained his reasoning, showed me the temp of the air coming out of the vents and the temp of the gauge at the compressor before coolant - then showed me the change that had occured within 10 minutes of coolant. He double checked the coils and let me know that I had the new coolant (not the one being phased out) which was good, and costs less. He let me know that my coils were ok - likley just a pin-hole leak, very slow and that if additional leaks form over time, I may need to replace the coils - but he said that could take several years and not to worry about it now. Super professional, very reasonably priced, expectations on timing totally met, and our AC is cooling properly now. SOOOOO grateful - Texas heat is brutal!!
