DUHON ELECTRIC

I left a call on Thursday morning, August 18, requesting an appointment to work on dead electrical plugs in my home. No return call by Friday morning, August 19. I consider this unacceptable.

I had a problem with an old GFCI outlet that kept tripping. Because of it's age (and the age of my house and it's wiring), I wasn't sure how to replace it. I called and left a message and William returned my call within a couple hours. We scheduled a time for him to come by and he was on time. He made the repair for me and talked me through it. I asked him to help me out with a couple other wiring issues I wasn't sure about and he did. Everything was working fine when he left, but unfortunately the problem began occurring again a few days later. This time Damian came by and did a more thorough search. He was able to determine the cause of the problem and took care of it for no charge. I should emphasize that there was no reason to think the original solution wouldn't work. The core problem was a fairly unlikely and random one. I appreciate that these guys stand by their work and make sure their customers are satisfied. They both explained what they were looking for and why, and how they were fixing the problems. I gained some useful knowledge along the way. I strongly recommend them and would definitely use them again!

Not well. William answered the phone when i called. He immediately said he was a busy guy and it was a small shop. Okay, so i said 'let's schedule for 3 weeks out, are you free then?" he said yes. He wanted to do an estimate first so he knew what supplies to order .. so he said he'd call back in a few days. He did and said he could come by at 7:30 p.m. and I said 'kinda late'.. so he said okay how about tomorrow when you get home from work. I said 'okay, i get home at 5:30' ... the next day at 4:55 as i'm driving home, he calls saying he's at my house. So i direct him to the outside location for the work and i'm trying to explain what needs to be done (it was a slightly tricky thing) and we're missing each other's point a little too much (i.e., conversation a little unclear on the phone). He says he can give me a bid and so he leaves my house as i'm 15 minutes away from my house. No bid ever came. The issue with small businesses and a large # of favorable reviews is what prior posts have alluded to ... the co is too busy and doesn't know how to handle it. This is my lesson not to take the high # of review report companies.. I've had this issue before and now i know ... go with fewer good reviews. You'll probably get that company to do the work and you won't waste your time. I did with this company.

We had some flickering lights in different rooms of our house. In the past we have had those albino lizards get in our electrical box and die in there. We thought it might be related to that again. We called Duhon and asked them to come out and see what the problem might be. It took about a week to get the service call scheduled but Damian came out and determined it was a loose wire connection. He fixed it and made sure everything was working before he left. We have been very pleased with the work he does and would definitely contact them in the future.

overall -- once they got here it worked well one complaint is that it took about 6-8 phone calls to actually get them to reply to my phone calls and schedule a service time and appointment -- that would be my only complaint,, if you need service immediately and need immediate response i was a bit disappointed, but then again, it wasn't an emergency

Damian arrived promptly for both the estimate and the job itself. He took great care to make sure the placement of the new outlet (going in the new cabinet that was not yet installed) would be in right place. The replacement of the ceiling fixture - which is normally an easy job - proved to be much more challenging due ton the way the original fixture was installed. Damian patiently handled the problem and apologized for the time it took. It was a job well done. Will definitely use them in the future.

William arrived on time and began work immediately. We were told the electricity would be off for about 4 to 6 hours. The work was actually completed in about 3 1/2 hours. I am more than satisfied with the work he did and the prices he charged. I highly recommend Duhon Electric for anyone needing electrical work done.

We needed a modification to the circuit that was servicing the swimming pool: an additional outlet, with switch. And we wanted it connected to the same X10 controller as other outdoor items. And we needed a repair in another switch that was not working. The company came out and diagnosed the repair (switch had shorted open) and provided an estimate. We had to secure the parts, since the X10 was not common stock item. There were some scheduling issues, and he ended up coming out a couple weeks later than originally expected. But he finished the work quickly, and did a very professional job. I'm quite happy with the results.

Called today and they were able to stop by same day to take a look. Apparently it was loose wiring on the circuit breakers, so he just took out a screwdriver, tightened them up, and let me know that it if happens again it may need to be replaced. That was it. No charge. Needless to say, very happy with the service! Would definitely call them again for any problems or work in the future!

Duhon Electric was very flexible with our schedule and very professional. We liked their honesty and communication skills.

They were excellent. They did a little work for me and told me that I did not need as much work as I thought I needed. First time they came out, I had them do some things that were needed immediately. I had asked them to rewire the house. He explained to me what I exactly needed and it was so much lesser than rewiring. I was very happy with their evaluation. Their price was quite reasonable. They were going to charge me around $180 for all the things that I needed. He brought a helper with him and they were 15 minutes late and he took $50 off the price because of that. They did everything that I asked them to do.

Electric dryer was not working. Appliance repairman identified this as a bad breaker and recommended hiring an electrician. I called Duhon. They came out the same day. Identified the bad breaker, replaced it and had me back to doing laundry within 20 minutes. I'd definitely call them again.

I called the phone number on the website and talked about an electrical problem with the person on the phone. Although I did not choose to use this company due to scheduling issues, they were very helpful and informative and I wouldn't hesitate to call them again.

Damien showed up even before the time we set up which was great. Damien easily and quickly took down two ceiling fans and installed a new ceiling fan and a chandelier. He cleaned up and seperated the old ceiling fans so I could donate them. Great job!

They did a great job -- everything works, they were very courteous and they cleaned up after themselves! I would hire them again and I recommend them to others.

Unfortunately my contact was not returned for a few days. I was told that they had been out of town. When we finally had a conversation that went into more detail about what my need was, the individual said he would be happy to come take a look but that they didn't install garage door openers. The whole process delayed me getting my problem fixed. I'm not sure whether I was not attentive enough to the listing on Angie's List, or exactly what happened, but there was a considerable delay in getting information that was vital to me moving on to another provider.

Diagnosed problem over phone and told me how to fix it. No cost. We have found our new electrician!!!!!

He was running a little late but he did call ahead of time and tell us. Started work when he got here and finished up in about 20 minutes.

My nephew who is an engineer came over and saw the finished job and said he could have done a better job. They are really good. They were polite. The young man that came told me he had to go get extra parts. I told him all I wanted was no cables hanging like laundry in the garage. He used the same orange cords and made loops to gather the wiring. I wasn't really pleased with how it looks but it works.

William repaired a broken ceiling fan. The chain for the light broke off within the housing structure of the fan. He arrived on time and worked quickly. Then we were then able to discuss the installation requirement for a Zephyr Kitchen Vent which I will call him back for in the near future.

We are (still) having some very strange problems with our house's electrical system. It looked like we had a corroded main line from the meter to our house, but with lots of odd and conflicting symptoms. After narrowing down the problems a bit and determining it wasn't those lines, I called William to come back out (he had come out earlier in our saga without charging me). He's very busy, and so it was a couple of days before he could come out, but for all that he was very responsive and came pretty much when he said he would. He and I went through the problems we're having; he listened and understood, and was able to make significant progress on fixing the problem. When he was done, the problem looked like it was fixed, only to return a few hours later (we've seen this behavior before). He also told me what I could do to help narrow down the problem if it recurred, so that's my next step -- after which I'll be calling him back. Good service, professional attitude, clearly an expert.

We were fed up after the DSL provider proved unhelpful and another electrician promised to show up on Saturday - and flaked. I called William Duhon early on a Monday morning and he told me he could fit it in at the end of that day. True to his word, he showed up and got the job done without hassle. He was also friendly when I called with a follow-up question.

William was several hours later than promised, but when he arrived he looked over the house and promised an estimate by e-mail two days later, which he didn't deliver. When I called twice and left a message, he called back the third day and gave me an estimate over the phone that I thought was a bit high (about $500). However, I checked around and called him the next day to tell him that it was acceptable and to remind him I needed the work done Friday afternoon. Over that week, I didn't hear back from him, called him several times with no response, even responded to an IM he mistakenly sent me, during which I asked him to confirm that he was coming on Friday. No response, and I never was able to talk to a human, just a message machine. I called Friday morning and three times Friday afternoon, even sent an e-mail mentioning Angie's List. Finally, at 3 on Friday he called and said he hadn't heard back from me. I was very disappointed in Duhon's lack of response, lack of professionalism, and obviously having taken a half day off from work I'm sorry they caused me to have to take time off from work with nothing to show for it.

Will contact in the future for electrical work

He came out one day to review the property, then scheduled for later in the week to do the work. He showed up a half hour late -- said he'd lost my phone number or he'd have contacted me. To make up for it, he didn't charge me for parts. The work was done very quickly and cleanly. I feel I got much more for my money from this guy working solo compared to plodding electrician-and-helper pairs I've hired before. In the space of 3 hours, he switched out lights, switches and outlets in 12 different locations. The only issue I had was that he didn't seem to fully test every connection after he finished. I discovered one bulb in an overhead light that wasn't turning on after he replaced the switch and put in CFL bulbs in place of incandescents. It wasn't a light he'd installed, but it indicated he hadn't checked the light before moving on. He fixed it immediately after I pointed it out. Also, one of the circuit breakers wasn't flipped back on before he left. These are minor issues and overall I'm very satisfied. I'll be contacting him again next time I need an electrician.
