Were not going to be able to look at for 2 days. They referred me to somewhere that could work on right away. When I went back the next day for parts, they were extremely helpful, explained everything, and helped me decide on next step whenever I am ready to do so. Overall, clear professional, and helpful. I've been going there for years, and been happy with products and customer service. Very reasonably priced. If there is a part or service they can't do, they have always referred me and helped me go where needed.

The diagnostics that Justin did was very thorough and he was able to isolate it to a failing PCI slot on the motherboard. I provided the new motherboard and the system was rebuilt including a reload of Windows 7. My $50 charge for the diagnostics was applied to the overall labor and the total cost was only $100 for something that I had spent hours and days on. The communication is excellent through email as well as the DE website.
Description of Work: I had a custom built PC that was failing randomly - sometimes after hours or even not booting. I had tried all diagnostics and hardware swapping that I could imagine but was not able to isolate the cause of the failure.

Description of Work: My daughter's laptop screen stopped working, and after taking it to BestBuy where we bought it, we were told it would have to have the monitor replaced. We then took it to Discount Electronics at their Round Rock location. They tested it with another monitor and it didn't work with that one which meant it was probably a video card that went bad. They advised that fixing it would be more expensive (or almost) as buying a new one. They gave recommendations on brands. After they transferred her hard drive to a portable drive, we left the computer with them to dispose of it. For all of this, they only charged us for the price of the portable drive. Great experience in a bad situation.

Description of Work: I bought an Asus computer. It died after 40 days. I took it to them and they had a trouble getting it fixed. They did but they told me that they had problems with the hard drive. It died for good about 10 days later. I took it to them because I didn't want to pay to ship it. I thought they did an okay job, but it took longer than they said. This was when Windows 8 was still fairly new. I think the hard drive was just bad.

.My somewhat weird/out of the ordinary chromebook has developed a few dead keys over time, and I wanted to know if the cost of repairing them was worth being done on a second-hand netbook. I took the book to Discount Electronics on Anderson, where the repair desk was able to take me promptly, ask the relevant questions about my problem, and explain the $25 diagnosis/opt-out fee. They got my phone and e-mail address, and told me they'd be in touch. In touch is pretty much how it went. Over the next day and a half or so, I received regular e-mail updates as my chromebook worked its way through the repair department's ticketing system. Not long after getting an e-mail diagnosing the problem, I got a call to personally sum up what the e-mail chain had told me as well as give me a price to repair. In the end, it wasn't worth the cost of the repair to bother for such an old netbook, but I would take my next PC repair to them for the transparency of their process alone. A courteous, prompt and professional staff

I needed a home desktop machine to backup the multiple computers that we have and to act as a VPN. I sometimes travel for work, so I am often on public wifi networks. Generally, cafes and hotels do not provide any protection on the wifi signal, so unless you are on an https encrypted website, your data can be read by anyone else with a laptop who has downloaded a snooping program such as Firesheep. (No, I do not think that the NSA is out to get me, but I am concerned about identity theft.) I did not need an incredibly powerful machine, so it did not have to be brand new as long as it had room for an extra hard drive or two. Discount Electronics was the perfect place to go for this. While they have assorted computer and tech parts and accessories at reasonable prices, the biggest reason to go to them is the used/refurbished computers. I generally shy away from used laptops because you never know how many times it has been dropped, but desktops are a different story. They typically have a good selection of desktops that are a few years old. Mostly Dell, but some Macs and other PC. Back when I bought the computer in 2012, there was a variety of XP and Vista machines. In 2014, it's mostly Vista and Win7. I bought an tower for less than a comparable one would have cost new, and got a warranty with it. Cheaper than Fry's. Safer than Craigslist. While that is reason enough to go there, the guys at Discount Electronics helped me out another way. Since I am doing multiple backups, I bought a large hard drive online. It turns out that Dell computers use a non-standard rail mounting system and you need to get an adapter set to screw to a bare hard drive. When I asked about the adapter, they just went in back and got one. No need to go order something on line and wait. I was up and running the same day. I doubt anyone else in town would be able to do that. The computer has been running reliably for over a year now. I am very happy with my experience.

We used Discount Electronics on S IH35 in Round Rock. In less than an hour, we were notified that the laptop was repaired and ready for pickup. They re-seated the memory and battery (which I had done). The laptop has worked fine ever since.

I had to wait for some other customers to be helped, but my presence was acknowledged quickly, and they said they would help me as soon as possible. When it was my turn, I described the problem, and Abbie immediately began to examine the laptop. She knew how to remove the decorative cover on the front of the display to expose the hinge. She quickly installed the first screw. The second one was more difficult, but she would not quit even though it took several minutes to get this screw started because it was mostly blocked by the base. The screws are still holding after several months of regular use. It was great service and a very friendly experience.
Description of Work: Two screws had come loose on one of my laptop's display hinges. Abbie re-installed the screws while I was waiting. One of them was difficult to get started, and she kept trying until she got it started and tightened.

After the tech previewed several refurbed models with me, I chose one and made the purchase. The tech installed my hard drive from the old HP into the new "refurbed" Dell PC (giving me two hard drives) at no charge. This was a very pleasant experience and I never felt like I was being taken advantage of (due to my limited knowledge in this area) or pressured.
Description of Work: Took in my old PC as it wouldn't power up. The tech in service dept. analyzed the PC while I waited and determined it had a bad Mother Board. I decided to look at some refurbished PC's for sale since the price of the repair would be equal to or more than fixing my old HP PC.

Replaced power port in laptop. Took it in on Jan. 2 and had it back on Jan. 6. Works great, plus it looks like they cleaned the computer - screen and keyboard! Gave a "B" on price because based on reports, I thought the price would be a little less, but, I don't know how much labor is actually involved. Bottom line is that the power to my laptop is repaired and it didn't take very long.

very professional, quick to diagnose problem on thier walk up counter. Dropped it off and it was fixed in a couple days for less then what Geek Squad quoted. They went the extra mile to make sure I was happy...very nice people.
