DAVID RAESZ

We own a rental house, and for the very first time we decided to get help in renting it out. David had been fairly high-profile in the neighborhood where the house is, so we thought we'd give him a try. It was not great from the start, and we should have followed our instincts to find someone else, but we kept thinking we'd give him the benefit of the doubt. He ultimately did get the house rented, charged us 80% of the first month's rent, and promptly dropped out of our field of view. It didn't go well, the renters turned out to be, well, high-maintenance, as some do, but this is not about them, this is about David. The single phone call we got from David after the lease was signed was to ask us again if we would consider selling the house- we'd already told him no to that question several times. We told him it wasn't going well with the renters and he side-stepped, saying he's not a property manager or a lawyer. He got paid $1400, but we had to hire our own layer to draw up docs to break the lease and let the people out. It was supposed to be a year lease, but it ended up being 3 months, and come to find out, he did not explain his contract very well to me, and now we owe those people another sum of money. In asking David for some sort of consideration on this to salvage the relationship, he flatly denied any responsibility to us or to the contract he wrote. He repeated how he's not a lawyer and couldn't have helped us anyway, yet kept saying that since we didn't contact him to tell him things were not going well, that he's not responsible. He wiggled and waggled and went around the subject and tried to point fingers at us and made excuse after excuse and bascially acted like a 14 year old who'd been caught skipping school. Really professional!
