This job was to take 3 days from start to finish and the owner of the company was a very likable guy, Johnny Lee Mata. He claimed to do work in Lance Armstrongs house and showed me pictures of some of his various work. Things started off well. Johnny was very polite and respectful of myself and home The contractor was never right on time to the appointment (30 min to 1 hr late) but always sure to leave at or near 5p. The first day of the work went well and I was happy. After the 2nd day the wheels just fell off and this drug out for over one month. I paid him 1/2 the money after his first day of work. Two days later, Johnny called me with a sad story of how he was overdrawn in his account and needed the rest of the cash. Since he was almost done, I paid him in full......I'm and idiot, I know. Johnny got sick with allergies and brought in one of his hands. The worker, unbeknownst to me, had a broken arm. He managed to drop 3 (18"x18") travertine tiles on my marble tub and yes, it fractured and chipped the tub. Johnny tells me he fired the guy, but my tub was still broken. After talking with Johnny, he agreed to pay 1/2 of the $500.00 to get the tub resurfaced. That never happened and the job was left unfinished. Johnny stood me up, on 2 sperate occasions, to come complete the work and was unresponsive to all calls and voice mails. Needless to say, I learned my lesson as a home owner and decided to join Angies List to help make my decisions.
Description of Work: $600.00 was for the Labor only. I supplied the hardware. I installed the backer board and redguard my self; this company was to just lay the tile, grout and seal the tile. This was a Small bathroom and the tile was being installed on the Floor and 3 walls of the shower.

BE AWARE OF ?Cowboy Express Flooring?, Johnny Lee Mata AND Kindal Mitchell (Wilson). We are one Austin family who got scammed by the following home remodeling contractor ? ?Cowboy Express Flooring?, Johnny Lee Mata and and his office manager, Kindal Mitchell (Wilson)- TileWorks employee. His crew has the following guys: Richard Bentez, Greg and Emmet. We purchased tile from Kindal Mitchell (Wilson)- TileWorks Inc. At the time of sale, Kindal referred us to Cowboy Express Flooring and fortunately we didn?t use them for this part of our remodeling. At a later time, we decided to change the floors and used Johnny Lee Mata, as he was previously referred to us by an existing business. We prepaid $1,500.00 to start the floor work and Johnny disappear for 2 days. He came later crying and explaining that he and Kindal broke up. He had to leave his house and had no place to sleep for 2 days. He even showed us a ring; supposedly he had for the proposal. As good people, we really sympathized and even paid for one night at a local hotel for him. He acted like he was grateful for the trust and support we provided. A week later he started to work and 2 weeks later the kitchen/eating area (only 400 sq feet) was still not done. We started to get impatient, as we live in a trashed house. To make things worse, one day he ripped off all the carpeting upstairs (we told him to do it at a later time after the kitchen is complete). The nightmare continued. He brought a new quote with a significantly increased price ($2 more a sq ft) and changed the footage (for example, he said that he put slate in a library & bathrooms?these rooms were not touched, and the square footage of our kitchen/eating area suddenly increased.) We declined to accept the new, and false, contract and told him he needed to continue per our original agreement. Next thing we knew, he disappeared with the money, work not even half way done, and one tile intentionally put in incorrectly in the hope that we would have to use him. We called him multiply times asking to simply return the money for the work not done. We haven?t seen the money owed. Kindal and he are acting as they are not together blaming each other. This posting is to make you aware of these dangerous people in Austin. God bless you! Feel free to contact us; together we can deal with these criminals! Names they continue to scam people: "Cowboy Express Flooring" or Johnny Lee Mata or Johnny Baker, Johnny Lee Baker ; Kindal Mitchell, Kindal Wilson at TileWorks in Austin, Texas
