Chino's Construction

I called chino and set a time. he came out on the day we set and we agreed to a price. his crew was out there at 7:00 am and started to excavate dirt and set elevations. chino explained everything they where doing and made sure I understood what they were doing. his ideals on his past experience made me feel better on choosing him to do the work. I could not vision the area on what it would look like and he drew some pictures and explained every detail. chino is very knowledgeable in concrete and everything he said was done. it could not have gone any better and smoother. it took two weeks for chino's con. to come out to my house due to a busy season but it was really, really worth it.

No contact by company.

Chino meet me to look at the project around May 25th at or near the time we agreed on. Chino stated he could do the work and was interested in doing the work, and would email me a estimate in a couple of days. After one week with no contact from Chino, I called him and left a message. Another week passed with no response so i called again. Chino answered and apologized for the delay, but would have his office send the estimate over asap. Two weeks have passed and still no estimate.

Chino missed two appointments with me and never bothered to call me about either one. Bad way to do business.

Overall, I would highly recommend Chino and his crew. My overall rating would be somewhere between good and excellent. I did not get bids, so I put a B for the price because I assumed I didn't get the best deal out there, but I thought the price seemed fair. I called Chino, and he came out the next day to give me a bid. He took a good amount of time to explain the work that would be done and he answered all of my questions. Once I said I wanted to use him, he had his crew out to my place within a couple days. He was not on site the entire time, but he did come throughout the day to check on the progress, which I really appreciated. Plus, the guy he left in charge when he was not there was also very nice and professional. There was one small area where the line of the walkway was not straight, but that is the only thing that kept me from giving him an overall score of excellent.

Not well at all. I cannot understand how he received all A's from past customers. Maybe my job was too small for him to be concerned about my wife and me. Chino came to my house and gave an estimate of about $930 to build a steel-reinforced concrete base for our new 3-tier bird bath/fountain, and running an underground electric line to the base. A couple of days later I called and told him we wanted a metal railing on the concrete steps going to the back yard from our patio door and back door from the garage. To save him a trip, I measured the steps carefully, drew diagrams, and then faxed the drawing to him. About 10 days went by without hearing from him, so I called and he estimated about $340 additional for the railings. We made an appointment for 8AM on Wednesday and he never showed up or called. Late in the afternoon I called his cell phone and he said he was "stranded in San Antonio" because his son moved there (I believe he said that was the reason). Chino assured me he would be in Austin that night and would call me that night, and he and his crew would be here Thursday morning. No night time call, no show and no Thursday phone call again! I called him again and got some lame excuse, but the crew would be here Friday. No show and no phone call again! Friday night (about 8PM) I called Chino and told him the only contact we ever had were contacts that I, NOT HE, had initiated. I Told him we were quite unhappy with his non-performance as well as his lack of effort to contact us, and that he was now FIRED.

He was very hands-on, sent me a thorough estimate and walked the proposal very quickly through the City permit process. He was busy, so it took a few weeks before the project could start, but once it started, they were done quite fast. Chino and his crew took our ideas and added details that made the project look much better than I expected. He supervised every step of the way and his crew is run by experienced workers who really know their concrete.

Did not return call so I used another company.

It looks great! Will add pics once Chino comes back and stains it. One note, this is the busiest time of year, so if he does not call you back just call him again. I did have to follow up, but it was worth it.

He missed out on a fairly big job. ($12,000.) I guess I am too small of a job for him?

Based on good reviews on this site, we called Chino. He was very responsive and provided a reasonable quote for the work described above. At the time, he said the backlog of jobs was about two weeks. We came to full agreement for the cost of the job (estimated at $2600) after all references gave him glowing reports. Since reaching a verbal agreement, its been a battle ever since. I was calling him several times a week asking when we could execute a written contract. Sometimes he would call back...other times he wouldn't. When we were able to get him on the phone, his response was always "I'm working on the contract...it'll be next week." When asking about scheduling the job, he was unable to commit due to extensions of current work. However, he gave us his full word that they would in fact do the job and we were the next residential job in the queue. We are very comfortable with contractors pushing back work due to weather issues, etc., but the communication from him was severely lacking. After several weeks of the job getting pushed back, he stated last week that the demo would be this past Wednesday and placement would be the following day. We were finally relieved that the challenge of getting him on the phone was going to stop and that the work was going to be done. Then we never heard from him again. I left numerous messages on his cell phone...but to no avail. They were a "no show" and Chino simply didn't call to tell us there has been a change in plans. We could've been pursuing another contractor for this job, but took Chino at his word that they were going to do the job. We checked references carefully and found that he had an excellent reputation from other residential jobs. So, what we were experiencing with him just didn't add up. We decided he wasn't administratively on top of things, but gave him the benefit of the doubt. At the end of the day, he pushed us off over and over without communicating his inability to do the job. He said he would do the job...and then he didn't. If you can roll with his inability to communicate and follow through with job contract specifics, then he may still be your guy. He really does know his concrete and I have no doubt that the quality of his work would have been top notch. Just get the job executed in writing from the beginning, irrespective of scheduling. We simply felt misled by him from the get go and now know that dismissing bids from other contractors based on Chino's verbal word was a mistake. Now we are months behind on getting the project done that we should have had done by now.

I e-mailed to request an appointment for an estimate. I never heard back. Granted, I never called to follow up, but they shouldn't advertise an e-mail address if they don't check it.

Chino replied to a phone call we made. He came to our house, reviewed the current deck and offered an estimate. He scheduled the work within a week. He was prompt and delivered exactly the service we needed. He used a crew of three people. He was onsite for the stump grinding, left for another job and then returned to inspect the final job.

Awesome! Chino is very nice and has a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience in concrete. He gave me an estimate on a Thurs. when he came out to view the property and was at my house early Monday morning to begin the work. He was always on the job site with his crew (which is rare these days) and made sure everything was done properly. The job site was left very clean when the work was finished. I interviewed many contractors for this job and I am so very pleased I hired Chino. I highly recommend him!

Chino returned my called and came over to my residence to give an estimate on the job. Chino and his crew showed up at about 7:30am on the pre-agreed date and started to prepare the area for the extension of the cement patio floor. Chino was very informative and explained exactly what needed to be done to complete the job. The entire job was done all in one day and his crew cleaned up the entire area. The patio cement floor came out great! I would highly recommend Chino and would not hesitate in using his services again.

The job went very well. They showed up around 7 a.m and had the old slab busted out in about 30 minutes. They set up the forms and were pouring concrete within a couple hours. The slab was completely finished and they were busting out the forms by 2 p.m. Chino was very professional and informative, he even gave us suggestions on some Do-It-Yourself projects we were working on. Chino also made sure to explain to us what was going on at every step. If there was anything he thought we might have a question about, he was sure to explain things to us thoroughly. Chino stayed on site with the crew throughout the whole project, which was nice in case we had any questions or issues.
