Description of Work: Bill was good to come out for an estimate. He had good suggestions and ideas for our kitchen remodel and seemed knowledgeable about the work. It has been really hard to get a hold of him after that though. We are interested in hiring him for our job, but have not been able to schedule anything yet.

+ 1 moreBoth were excellent. Bill is concerned with quality and cost, has excellent subcontractors who he manages very closely. He doesn't take a penny until the job is completed to your satisfaction. He doesn't provide written estimates but his "back of the envelope" total cost estimates are pretty close to what he says. At the end, he provides a summary of the cost of each item (labor and materials), takes his 20% markup, and that's that. If anything comes up, even a year later, that you are unhappy with, he will get it taken care of. We have spent some $40K with him in two years and are very satisfied.
Description of Work: Remodeled our master bathroom. Two years ago, he remodeled our kitchen.

He is prompt, reliable, pays attention to minute details, clearly cares about the quality of his subcontractors work, and is essentially 100% guaranteed as we didnt pay a cent until he was finished. We ordered our own appliances through Loews (fridge, cooktop, dishwasher, built in microwave and oven), he installed them all. He directed us to his granite supplier and we selected a lovely granite countertop. My wife couldnt be more pleased.

Description of Work: Bill's electrician removed a fluorescent light box over the kitchen island, two additional spotlight fixtures, and three ceiling light fixtures in the hallway. He then installed nine recessed lights in kitchen and hall and one eyeball light over the den mantle. The painting crew patched, textured the areas where old lighting was removed as well as repaired a large crack in the kitchen ceiling. They then painted the kitchen and den ceiling. We were very pleased with the whole job and will certainly call Bill when we are ready for our kitchen and master bath remodel.

+ 8 moreOur cabinets and kitchen island look amazing! Everyone who sees them cannot believe they are not straight from the manufacturer instead of just painted wood. He moved some electrical plugs as well, and replaced under-cabinet lights. One of the best things about working with Bill is that he keeps you informed. You know when to expect his crews and you know if there is a cost increase of a job. He likes to get the job started quickly and done quickly. He ALWAYS gets back to me when i call, and he doesn't make me chase him down for answers. He shows up on the job to make sure his crews are handling things and to ensure everything is running smoothly. (i wish all contractors did this!) he never asks for and quot;front moneyand quot; and you pay when the work is finished.
Description of Work: Over the course of the last few years, Bill and his crews have remodeled practically every room in our house PLUS handled exterior painting and repair. Kitchen counters, tiles, cabinet makeovers... Master bath shower, plumbing, tilework, painting... Master bedroom wood floors, trimwork, paint, electrical... Family room ceiling, Wall removal... Dining room trim, painting, electrical... Exterior paint, gutters, shutters, electrical, carpentry... Most recently, he replaced and refinished our cabinet doors, including hinges, paint, stain, polyurethane.

+ 7 moreBill was very helpful helping us refine our choices and made great suggestions. He took us to reference jobs to help us see how things would look. His experience and knowledge was invaluable. His crews were everything he said they would be and more. I was very comfortable leaving them in my home when I had to. As Bill said to us, If he can't trust them, they don't work for him...
Description of Work: We had Bill do an update remodel on our upstairs bath, kitchen, entry floor, and master bath. I can't express how pleased we are with ALL of the work they did! All of the different crews were very professional, hard working and highly skilled in the job they were doing. His tile guy is an absolute artist. We had them replace the wood floor and tile in our Kitchen and Entry Hall. We used a faux slate tile that required him to work out of about 5 boxes at a time in order to make the repeat pattern work right. The outcome is stunningly beautiful and makes us smile every time we look at it. He also did the back splash in the kitchen, with limestone tile, that turned out beautifully. We had granite countertops, new oven/micro, cooktop, vent-hood, and sink. In the upstairs bath they replaced the vinyl flooring with tile, made and installed a new cabinet with new sinks, granite, mirrors, faucets, tub and tile surround. It turned out beautifully. In the master bath we re-arranged the closet, got rid of the garden tub, made the shower much bigger and made the cabinet more functional. Everyone who has seen our bath remodel is amazed with how fantastic it looks.

+ -1 moreBill Philen is a MOST AWESOME contractor! We first contacted him upon referral from Tim of Timberline, (Tim doesn't do kitchens) for a remodel. Bill has a whole crew of people that specialize in every aspect from the tear down/out to the final touches. The people he has working for him are very professional and get the job done in the time frame they say.Each person that came to the house not only arrived on time, did the work in the time they said they would, but also made sure to clean up afterwards. If you have ever remodeled anything you know the dust and grime that comes with it. The workers kept this to a bare minimum.I can honestly say that when it comes time to do the bathrooms- Bill will be my only call. WIth Bill you can call, discuss and sit back and wait- no need to worry! His pricing is very reasonable and he doesn't pad the estimate with any big surprises in the end.
Description of Work: We had the kitchen remodled - not only a new granite counter top, but major plumbing work as well. The original design of the kitchen left a lot to be desired. With the remodel we had the dishwasher moved over by 30 inches, had the sink moved to a different wall and had a wrap around raised bar cut down and made counter height. The old lamintae counter was replaced with granite that in some places is 42 inches wide, making it a place to eat as well. The kitchen is a 'G' shape and although the size was decent there was no real space for cooking- everything was broken up by an appliance or a corner. Now I have a good 11 feet of flat space where I can lay out, assemble roll out etc any meal.

Description of Work: Bill arranged complete repair our our home after flooding occurred on 9/7/2010. Bill charged less than the original quote and did an excellent job. Bill made suggestions on how to improve the room's lighting in the most economical, less complicated way. They took care in aligning the can lights with the room's architectural features and were meticulous in their work.
