Best Austin Handyman & Remodeling

This is my second job with this crew and once again they were great. This time Mother Nature delayed us multiple times over several months and they never lost sight of my project. Barrett was out promptly to estimate the project and he responded immediately to come look at a concerning area while the project was underway. Tyler was our foreman again ( he foremanned our first job as well) and he went above and beyond the scope of the project to make sure it was done correctly, even in the face of delays, weird deck stain, very dry old deck, and scheduling nightmares. As with any work being done, you have to stay in communication as the work is being done, to make sure it is what you want. But when I had specifics during the project with how the stain was going down, they listened and adjusted. I will use them again when I redo 2 more bathrooms, because I feel like they really work with me with my best interest at heart.

One of the bins was a little crooked.

We had a few odd jobs around our new home and decided to hire a handyman. Best Austin, as do other companies, ask for a prioritized list, as they can't guarantee how long any specific task will take. This is fair- we provided a list of 4 items- 2 of which HAD to be completed, and 2 of which would be nice to have but weren't urgent. We agreed to a four hour block of time for $389- understanding we could go over/would have to pay an additional $X hour if he was mid-task. Handyman arrived on time and got to work on our #1 item- installing a motor for a garage door whose stall had just been used by the previous owner for storage. We had purchased the unit from SEARS and had it- and a ladder- ready for him. I didn't stick around for the actual installation, but it took a total of 5 hours. We were disappointed it took so long - but we had been fairly warned before hand and understood our agreement so we sucked it up. We weren't willing to keep paying so we sent him home- the garage door motor worked so we were generally happy. A few weeks later, our caretaker (we were out of town) had some trouble with the door and got on a ladder to investigate. He discovered the chain had been improperly installed, and in multiple places only one bolt had been used when there was room and holes for 4. The chain was rubbing in such a way it would have soon caused permanent damage. Moreover, in several places the washers were not tightened on the bolts- there were several CMs between the washer and the hole, so things were really loose. It appears that without our caretakers intervention, we would likely be looking at a busted motor within just a few more weeks, one that could have potentially fallen on my car, doing additional damage. Long story short- this company was easy to schedule, nice enough, and seems fairly priced. But for the quality of service we received, I would have been better off attempting the work myself - at least then I wouldn't be out $444 for a lousy result. For what it's worth, I did just pass along my experience to the provider, and they were sympathetic.

Service provider arrived a few minutes early and did even a bit more than requested.

We bought an Angie's List special, and asked them to look at our bathroom, which had suffered serious uninsured damage from the Halloween 2013 floods. We had also discovered damage from carpenter ants when removing drywall and insulation after the flood. They gave us good advice and the plans made sense. We didn't proceed for financial reasons; other damage claimed priority. Their estimate was reasonable but after all the other damage, we weren't able to proceed with the project. We will certainly consider them for future projects.

They did a great job. I needed some misc. handyman jobs done around the house and they completed everything I needed done within the two hours I paid for as part of the Daily Deal.

Looks great and they worked with us on the design. Professional.

The work was accomplished within our expected time, despite a bit of interference from May's rains. The staff came on-time each time, worked hard and completed their efforts on-time.

$99 The young women they sent was very nice, however this was her first job after completing her degree in INTERIOR design. Her suggestions were very basic.

Called a few times trying to schedule repair. Owner seemed unenthusiastic of doing AL Big Deal job. I felt very difficult to get it scheduled. Ended up refunding.

Great customer service and follow up by the staff and prompt and thorough service by the handyman.

What a difference having the driveway power-washed! The technician used a large power-washing disk that scrubbed that concrete like nothing I have ever seen. I will never think of using a wand type power- washer again for jobs like this. One hour and he was done, and the driveway looked almost new, as new as a 17 year old drive can look. I am very pleased.

The tech did a great job and he was very respectful. I would use them again.

The guy came and he gave me a good evaluation and pointed out some things that needed improvement.

It went really well. He was willing to fix anything that needed to be fixed. He was fast, efficient, really good at fixing the garage door with very little paint. He was able to efficiently do extra jobs. He was constantly working and really practical. He responded quickly and was on time. He was very professional.

.Worker was good, simple tasks. He came in and did the job and left, very reasonable prices didn't overcharge. Fixed plantation lines, flexible added a service and he didn't mind.

It went well. I would recommend them and use them again.

When the plan came back it was simply a picture of the front of my house, photoshopped to remove some of the current landscaping, and then it had lines drawn to plant pictures on the side of the page. Nothing about the backyard, except a list of materials. It was very unprofessional and not really something I could hand to my lawn guy ask him to DO, which is what the ad suggested--either they could do the work or I could hire someone else to do it. We emailed several times back and forth. All I wanted was an aerial view, even hand drawn was ok, showing where plants would actually be planted since my yard is very large. He said it would be an additional $XXX for time. I asked for a refund, he said "no" then stopped replying. They were nice, but I feel like it was a ridiculous waste of money and all I received was an estimate which I paid $99 for. Still not happy.

Went the extra mile to do a superior quality job.

Deck was in good shape structurally but was in desperate need of washing and staining. Tyler and his helper did an outstanding job of cleaning the deck and then offering suggestions as to the type of stain that would best protect it. They did exactly what I asked for, were pleasant to be around, and cleaned up after the job.

No one turned up for the first appointment that I had scheduled. I called the following day and the lady I spoke with was very apologetic and rescheduled it. Ray turned up for that appointment. Took photos of all the areas of rotted wood, explained to me that the wood would need to be replaced and he would get the wood and then contact me to schedule the work. Fine. He left a v-mail a few days later to say that he had the necessary wood. I called the office to schedule another appointment. I spoke to a lady in the office. She said she would contact Ray and call me back. She did not call me back and I called their office again almost two days later to schedule the work. A couple of days later Jason came to do the work. However, Jason could not do the work. Because no one had told Jason about the scope of the project and that he needed to bring replacement wood with him! Jason turned up expecting to do a wood filler/patch job. He was apologetic and polite. He called his office and offered to have someone come out tomorrow to do the work. At this point, I was tired of dealing with them and had lost faith in their ability to get the job done. If the handymen of Best Austin Handyman are terrible at communication and follow-up why would I think that their work would be good? All in all not a good experience.

The gentleman was on time and saw around as to what needs to be done. Overall works was good quality, but the only thing I did not know was that he had to go and buy some supplies from the store after he saw what needs to be done. Basically a metal plate to cover a small section of the roof, and maybe some other supplies, and he deducted that travel/shopping time from the 4 hours in the deal.

Barrett arrived within a couple of days to look over my job request and provide an estimate. He was very knowledgable and gave me some tips in order to save time/money. My job started late the following week and the crew showed up on time and ready to get to work. Jonas (I'm assuming the project manager) and the crew were very friendly and professional. The job went 2 days longer than expected, however, they still honored the original quoted price. Jonas made several trips out to ensure the job was being done correctly and I felt he went above and beyond to ensure I was satisfied. Both Barrett and Jonas were great about responding when I had questions or concerns. There were a couple of challenges in communciation with one of the installers, and a few minor oversights in the job completion, but overall I am very pleased with the job they performed.

First, let me say that I have never had such a poor experience with a provider on Angie's list. Let me go through the whole story. I purchased a "Deck Restoration" package on Angie's List for $199.00. I was contacted by Austin Handyman to schedule. I told them that I also needed some of the railing replaced and didn't exactly know what the "Deck Restoration" covered. Raymond came out to give the estimate which was $1,643.50. He indicated that the repair was extensive. The bid was not real detailed but it covered the work that needed to be done. Unfortunately, I approved the bid and the work was scheduled on March 11. Workers did not show up! A person called that morning to let me know that the carpenter had a personal problem. On March 12, they power wash the deck and bench. The carpenter removed the rotted wood and said that he didn't have the equipment needed to finish (he need to route the edges of the railing). They were there for 1 1/2 hours and gave the impression they would return. Never did! The power wash equipment was left in the yard and a gas can on the patio. On Monday, March 16, Tyler calls and says that he will be staining the deck Tuesday. I asked how long it took to dry since it was supposed to rain on Wednesday. He said it should take 24 to 48 hours. Since it was going to rain, he said someone would call to reschedule. No one did! I also asked about the carpentry work and the equipment still in the yard! To his credit, he called the carpenter and then called me back to tell me that the carpenter would be out later today. He didn't show up! Tyler also said I would need to purchase the stain. What stain? No one said anything to me about a stain! He just drops the subject. The carpenter shows up on Wednesday, March 18 at 1pm and leaves at 2pm. Sometime, the equipment is removed. I call the office on March 25 since no one had called to reschedule. Heather calls back with "I understand you fell through the cracks!" That did it. Of all the things to say, that just did it. She rescheduled for Friday, April 3. I asked about the stain. She said I needed to purchase that. Okay I'm through. I never said I was purchasing stain. The only thing on bid was "sealer". I feel like I've been scammed and on Angie's List! I'm not paying these people another dime!
