Best Austin Handyman & Remodeling

This was a $299 big deal purchase. There were a couple of spots that he missed and I thought he should have been a little bit more thorough. They could do better by being more thorough and asking more questions. Their responsiveness was good and they were punctual.

I didn't have them do any work. It was okay. Nothing stood out to me.

Went great, looks much better now.

Contractor first powerwashed our sadly neglected deck, which brightened the wood considerably. I had to provide the waterproofing sealant, and the kind I got had to be applied on dry wood, so he came back the next week to finish the job. I feel much better about spending time on my deck now. I would call them again.

Showed up, figured out the scope of the job, did the work!

Overall I was happy with the job - I was selling my house and just didn't have time to do all the extra little things so I called in some help here. They were quick with scheduling and flexible with the job in the case I had any other tasks in the two hour period. The Handyman took care of it well, and the Scheduler was pretty well versed in telling me what supplies he'd need. However, I think he would have preferred a different type of caulking, because he had some trouble with the kind I had being a bit more sticky than he was used to. He ended up getting it done fine, but it could have gone a little more smoothly for him and cleanly for me if he had the caulking he preferred. However, he could also have used some painters tape to make it a little easier/less messy - but every person has their own way of doing things I suppose. I'd use them again, but I think I would insist on just having a five minute call with the actual handy man before the job to see if there were any particular materials, tools, or brands of materials he'd prefer to use. The Scheduler is knowledgeable, but like I said - every person has their own way of doing things and types of tools they do better with - especially if the job is cosmetic (like caulking).

It went very good, he brought his wife him and she was a great handyman, they were cute. They were clean and respectful.

It was good. The price was okay, I was happy with it.

Quality of the jobs performed was not great. Also the guys needed to be told exactly how things needed to be done. For example, one of the curtain rods they installed for a very large window, should have not be installed with four mount brackets (two in the center) because the curtain won't close all the way to the center... I didn't realize of this until they left, because I obviously don't expect that kind of mistakes from a handyman! So my husband had to fix it later. But price was very good, I guess. I just needed to be with them 100% of the time to tell them exactly how to do it.

Everything was done professionally. Very pleased with the work.

I was not too happy with the service. There is some bulging in the wood where nails were put in too close to the surface. Also, he did not bring common materials (a caulking gun) and then expected to take time out of the job I'd paid for to go get it.

I was on the phone giving directions when they were five minutes away told me the truck broke down. We rescheduled and twenty minutes before the scheduled time called to cancel again.

Horrible. I am having to spend a grand getting a professional out to my house to fix their shoddy, horrendous job.

Ed was on time,we discussed the situation, I had all material he needed ready, the man went right to work and finished at a reasonable time.

*UPDATE* I contacted Angie's List and told them this review was for the wrong company. They were supposed to cancel this review, but never happened. I apologize for the erroneous review of the wrong contractor.

Not good. Never provided plan. Each time I called to ask about getting the plan, response was some version of "Will check and let you know", but there was never any follow up. It is time for a refund.

Not so great. There were kind of calms and bows to it. I bought the drywall repair which makes it four hours of service and the repair man who came by was completely unprepared like it was a roof line and he knew that it was a patio roof and he didn't even have a ladder. When he uncovered the underlying wood and he had to call in help and get another person out there. he couldn't get a hold of the dispatcher and when I tried to call I couldn't get a hold of the dispatcher. So we sat around for about an hour and none of us being able to call the operator, so we just kind of burnt time and then when they sent out another person who was a roofing specialist they ended up hitting me with a quote for over five grand. And I subsequently had somebody else come out and just do the spot repair and it ended up being $700. They just started a new internet enabled voice system so that when you call it was supposed to direct you to various personnel and those different voice boxes weren't set up and it would hang up on you repeatedly. They were really unreliable. I know that they were trying to get certain things set up but I had so much trouble working with them. I didn't follow up and I definitely didn't give them the go ahead to do the five grand work for me. It could have been a good experience but they just don't have the capacity to deal with things on the spot. Had they come out and did the actual work they advertised I would be perfectly happy, but the up-selling was unacceptable. They followed up with me afterwards to see if I wanted to book and there was also a service call afterwards to ask what my impression was and I did talk to them about the problems that I had getting in touch with the dispatcher and their phone service. So there was outreach on the side of the company. The punctuality was great. The first handyman was out there exactly when he was scheduled and then when they had the roofing guy come out to give a consultation he was basically on call, so he came out the very same day, so I appreciate the promptness. I actually had some little hesitations about even calling back to see if I could get to use that four hours that I had already paid for and I don't have the time to babysit them essentially and I really don't want to put more money to the project. So I really didn't get anything from what I bought other than the quote for the work.

We were told it would take 2 days to complete. 2 workers started on a Tuesday,and the job wasn't completed until the following Tues. One worker work the first day by himself except for a couple hours the other worker showed up. The second day the same occurred. we were billed for 39.23 hours of labor. The job should have only taken 2 days at the most with one worker working and that is 16 hours instead of 39.23. the break down was 32 hours on the job and the remainder of the 39.23 hours which comes to 7.23 hours for purchase of materials . What takes almost all day to purchase $284.00 in materials?. They also tried to charge us for clean up of the job site and the removal of leftover materials, which was not in the bid. I was very surprised to be treat in this manner since they were rated A in Angie's List. .

The electrician did a great job. He was very polite, and he helped us locate a replacement fixture for the kitchen light. Everything was swept clean and neat when he was done.

They pieced in new wood to replace my rotted door jambs. Amanda did a beautiful job and even primed and painted the completed work. Finally, she made sure there wasn't a speck of sawdust remaining. What a perfectionist.

Initially, I asked them "how many digits are we talking about here?" and the answer was, "mid 4." I said, ok, that is about what we are looking at...when I got the quote, however, many weeks later, we got a quote for $10k. IT was a little disappointing, and I think it was because it took so long to get the response, they simply forgot our discussions about price. They were really nice and we got great ideas, but we didn't go with them.

It went well. They cut a hole in the living room ceiling to check on a leak and repaired it. I painted over it.

Ed, the handyman who came out, was incredible. He tackled everything we gave him accurately and swiftly, including putting up lights, ceiling fans, bathroom hardware, curtain hardware, TV wall mount and a floating shelf. He was extremely helpful and personable. Would definitely have him back for more projects.

The reviews below are misleading. I called the Best Austin Handyman & Remodeling in order to have a similar repair to the review below done for my patio door wheels. The scheduler said that they have a four-hour minimum which is over $350. The review on the patio door wheels indicate that they paid $170... and there are reviews after that one in which people paid less than $350. The company referred me to another company, "The Glass Guru"... but they also do not do service and repair and could not refer me to anyone who did. This was my first experience in using Angies List to try and find someone to work on my house.
