The two workmen Jeff sent I can only describe as artists. They were the finest craftsmen I have ever watched at work. The demolition went unbelievably fast, in one day, leaving no mess of any kind. By the end of the day they had already started laying out the new foundation. Their design was far superior to the old deck's, and has resulted in a far sturdier and more solid one than the former deck. They western cedar planks they used were all of excellent quality. Watching the deck builders at work was simply poetry in motion, with measurements all carefully made and accurately cut, joints beautifully tight and solid, never a miss at any point that I saw. The deck is rather irregular in shape, with changing angles and only two sides parallel. The men had not the slightest difficulty with any aspect of the work. I could hardly take my eyes off the work, which struck me as almost unbelievably good. The finished deck is solid, beautiful, and unspoiled by any glitch. It couldn't be better.
Description of Work: Jeff Dailey came out personally to look at our old deck and discussed options for a replacement. He sent us by email images of work he has done, and discussed materials and improvements in the design of our existing deck. Given the lack of options for changing the basic layout, owing to the location, we confined our discussion to improvements, which he explained very well. We incorporated elements of his deck design, and this greatly improved the appearance, structure and usability of the deck. Jeff sent out two workmen to do the demolition of our old deck and the construction of the new. They worked very quickly and efficiently, and completed the work in about a week, as promised.

Abe did a wonderful job designing the deck as well as obtaining the proper permits from the city, something that other deck companies were not willing to do. Josh and Jory, the guys who built the deck, showed up on time every day and did a fantastic job. The job they did exceeded my expectations and I would recommend this company to anyone needing a deck.

Contacted Austin Deck Company by phone and a consultation was rapidly scheduled (2 days). Provided estimate with some excellent suggestions. After receiving preliminary drawings made some modifications and got the revised estimate within 24 hours. Submitted to HOA for approval. Once HOA approved began construction within 2 days. Completed project within estimated time - estimate 7 to 8 days, took 6 days. Always cleaned up site upon departure. Worked from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Considerate of yard and our schedule. Project completed and looked better than expected. Have already recommended to two other neighbors.

The whole process went exceedingly well. The team from ADC were very professional. Unlike working with some contractors, the team arrived everyday at the appointed time. They were courteous and kept me apprised of what would be happening and when. There were no shortcuts taken on the project. They replaced everything from the ground up, and they obviously took pride in their work. I had a budget in mind, and I had (kind of) an end result in mind. ADC took it completely from thought to reality. They exceeded my expectations.
Description of Work: The team, led by Dennis Krug, replaced my existing deck from start to finish. This included submitting several designs, working with me on materials, removing the old deck, and building the new deck. I had a very large, three-tiered deck on the back of my home that had surprisingly little useable space and was in bad repair. Dennis worked with me to change the floorplan so that the amount of useable space drastically increased, even though the footprint didn't. He also incorporated a large oak tree into the design. The result turns the tree into a feature, and makes relaxing on the deck much shadier and cooler.

Overall we were very happy with their work and would use them again. We interviewed several outfits and Dennis Krug seemed to the most knowledgeable. He answered all of our questions patiently and didn't push features or materials we didn't want. They were able to get started soon after the contract was signed and the crew worked promptly and efficiently each day until the job was completed. The 2-man crew was also friendly and answered any questions patiently and non-defensively. Dennis also checked things out each morning. Cleanup was pretty thorough except for mounds of plasticky deck-material shavings, which they left behind. However, that wasn't hard for me to sweep up. The finished deck looks sharp and feels solid.
Description of Work: The Austin Deck Company demolished our old deck, a large main part and a smaller upper deck, and completely replaced it with a new deck of pressure treated pine frame, metal railings, cedar posts and composite decking. The work included new posts and concrete footings. At our request they also handled city forms and inspections.

The work began on time, and was completed ahead of schedule. The two workers, Josh and Jory did an excellent job. They showed up on time , cleaned up each day before they left, and answered all my stupid questions about carpentry. I will certainly use them again, and I highly recommend them

We had a 3-level deck replaced and an arbor built. This was approximately $20,000 of work. We bid 3 companies, all with good capabilities and reputations. The Austin Deck Company had done work for us about 20 years ago, and we were pleased at the time and the cedar deck they built then held up well. Jeff Daily arrived for the bid discussion on time and well prepared. He brought samples of various deck materials and spent a lot of time with us discussing pro & con & history of each material type and manufacturer. That was very beneficial since we had not decided what to use. We selected Fiberon Horizons material. Jeff provided a bid quote within a few days, complete with an excellent 2D CAD drawing showing the dimensions of what was to be built. They started the job on time May-1st and completed it a couple of days late on May-18th – excellent scheduling considering the unexpected rain we had in May! The crew had been working together for years, and they had a very good working relationship with each other. Jeff came to the job site almost every day to augment the on-site team. Materials were quickly delivered, and debris removed. They took care to cover the lawn with plywood over their path, then put up the plywood at night so the grass could recover. The deck is very well constructed & sturdy as we wanted, and the arbor is cantilevered to avoid obstructing our view. The only negative I can think of is their lack of 3D CAD & rendering capability which creates an “almost picture” to help visualize what is to be built. This might have helped them plan the construction details in advance. They seemed to compensate with an old (and comfortable) motto of mine – “When in doubt, build it stout, out of things you know about”. Although all 3 bidders would likely have done a good job, these guys made me feel very comfortable, did a good job, and had a reasonable price. I highly recommend them.

Dennis came to our home very quickly after our request for a bid. He was very personable, professional and knew exactly what was needed to fix the structural damage. I wanted an additional area off the covered deck to be able to safely place a gas grill. Dennis designed the area that would meet our needs, which we used for the first time last night and it was perfect!! It took two weeks to complete the project. Mike and Jeremy performed the construction and I couldn't be happier with their superior workmanship and friendly attitudes. It was obvious that they took pride in their work, especially in the details that made the deck so aesthetically beautiful. My husband was very impressed with their work as well, especially the way they permanently fixed any possibility of future structural damage. We really appreciated that once they started our decks ( less than a week after accepting their bid) they came everyday, worked all day and did not have any other projects to work on while they were building our decks. Debris was picked up everyday so that it would not be accumulating in our yard. We especially appreciated this since we are trying to so hard to get our grass to grow back after the drought last year. They exceeded our expectations and went above and beyond with a few extras. I have already recommended their work to two of my friends and will use them again if needed.
Description of Work: The Austin Deck Company replaced two 28 year old decks on the back of our home and stairs from the garage. The original decks were causing structural damage and their were some areas that were rotting. They were able to use the cedar boards on our covered deck to replace the boards on our smaller deck which saved us some money. They used treated pine on the covered deck.

Quality of work was excellent. Any issues that came up were quickly addressed without any defensiveness. For example, there were some gouges on the decking which may have been done by the rail installers. Austin Deck saw the damage and corrected it by assigning one of their best workers. Even though it cost them an extra couple of hundred of dollars, they replaced the entire planks (20') as opposed to just cutting out the damaged section. Detailed drawings were provided by Abe, the Austin Deck contact for the project. He worked through several designs to get to the price that fit our budget. This avoided surprises. He and his crew were willing to do extras, like move the grass that was under the deck to some bare spots in the yard. I would definitely hire Austin Deck again and recommend Abe and his crew, Mike, Harold and Jeremy. .

Overall, the entire project from start to finish took 4.5 consecutive days. A team of two men arrived each day at 7:30 AM and left at 5:00 PM. The final day, they arrived at 7:30 AM and the job was complete around noon. I allowed myself one week to obtain bids from five companies from Angie's List that each had "A" ratings. I had to leave messages with the other four companies. One company never returned my call, one returned my call to recommend someone else, one company (the only concrete porch company) came and looked at the project and said that it was too difficult, and one company took 8 days to submit a written estimate. These were ALL "A" companies, mind you. Austin Deck Company was totally different. I spoke with the owner, Jeff Daily, on Thursday February 23. He asked if he could have the gentleman that worked north contact me since I live in Round Rock. I agreed. Within 10 minutes I was contacted by Abe Oeltjen from Austin Deck Company; we set an appointment for 12:30 PM that same day. Abe arrived at exactly 12:30 PM and spent about an hour explaining in detail exactly what Austin Deck Company would do to build my new deck. As a quality conscious customer, I was taken by his ability to listen, offer options, and even show samples of the hardware that would be used to construct the deck. I received a written estimate the next day by email. I responded and told Abe that I would make a decision by the end of the following week. On February 28, I sent Abe an email requesting a revised estimate based on a different material choice; he responded with an amended estimate within 30 minutes! Abe left a message on Monday, March 5 at 9:00 AM to follow up. I emailed Abe the evening of March 5 and indicated that I would phone him the next morning. I called Abe on Tuesday, March 6 and told him that I would like him to take our project. I suggested that we meet on Thursday, March 8 at 5:30 PM. Again, Abe was on time and very well prepared. He had prepared a complete written project description including a schematic drawing that labeled specific materials and details. He again, took about an hour to verify that he understood what we expected and that we understood what he intended to do. He graciously allowed me to submit the the application for the building permit (saved $100) which I did the next morning at 11:00 AM. I had the permit in hand and emailed Abe a copy on March 9. He responded late Friday afternoon and indicated that he would be in touch. On Monday, March 12, Abe called and said that the two men that would be building the deck could start the next morning. He also informed me that he had to speak at a conference in New Mexico Wednesday - Friday during the time the deck would be built. He said that if I was not comfortable with this arrangement, we could schedule if for a later date. I asked he if he felt confident in the two men who would be doing the work and he said, "absolutely." I trusted his judgement and he was right. Victor and Jacinto were EXCELLENT! These men arrived each day at 7:30 AM and worked until 5:00 PM. The attention to detail was incredible. Even the Round Rock building inspector commented that their work was the best he has seen and that he would hire them. They finished on Saturday, March 17, around noon. Abe came by on Monday, March 19 to pick up a few left over boards and make sure I was completely satisfied. Austin Deck Company does not cut cut corners. What you see on the surface is all cedar; each board with routered edges, feature boards to alleviate seams, and uniform spacing to mitigate moisture build up. What you don't see is the solid framing that is constructed of treated lumber resting on a 24 ft. main beam supported by steel reinforced footings that are anchored into rock. What you don't feel is any vibration whatsoever when one walks across the deck. It is solid, level, and looks terrific. A great deal of this narrative is about who did what and when; how well did the people of Austin Deck Company performed from the planning, to the delivery of materials, to the construction, through to the finished deck in 4.5 days. Austin Deck Company was flawless from start to finish and this is indeed, rare. I highly recommend, without any reservation whatsoever, Austin Deck Company.
Description of Work: Austin Deck Company replaced an existing deck that was approximately 14 years old. The deck is about 16' x 24', about 340 square feet, and about 3' off the ground on the back of a 1 strory residential structure. All framing is treated pine, steel reinforced concrete footings, all visible surfaces are cedar. I, the homeowner, disposed of the old deck and obtained the building permit at a reduced cost; although, this is normally included in a deck project. This was at my request.

Initially we asked Austin Deck Co to construct a small deck off of our front porch. The company's representative, Abe Oeltjen promptly responded, listened to what we wanted, made some excellent suggestions and had a design back to us in a few days. Their work crew came out about a week later and completed the job in one day. The work was very professional and the crew used good structural techniques to ensure a long life for the deck. The crew completely cleaned the site and removed all excess materials. Based on that great experience we asked Abe to design a pergola for our back yard patio. I had a sketch of what we wanted but Abe suggested some changes that led to a much improved structure. About a week later the crew began work and completed the work in two days. Again the quality of work was excellent and the site thoroughly cleaned. We wanted to attach a porch swing to our pergola and contacted Abe for suggestions. He told us the hardware required and then came by and helped us install the swing - all at no additional cost.
Description of Work: We used Austin Deck Co for two projects - construction of a small deck off our front porch and design and construction of a pergola (arbor) in our patio. We compared the price of the pergola to a similar one offered by a nearby lumber yard and hardwood store and Austin Deck gave us a much better deal. The quoted price is the total for both projects: $1150 for the deck and $2670 for the pergola.

My husband and I had been wanting to build a new deck for a couple years now, and our only regret is that we didn't do it sooner! We had an amazing experience working with Austin Deck Company. The bid they provided was about 30% less than the other bid we received, and they were able to start within a few days. The crew showed up on time and left the work site clean and free of debis at the end of each day. They're workmanship was impeccable...you can tell they are real craftsmen. Dennis was frequently on site checking progress and touching base with us. We couldn't be happier with our new deck and recommend this company highly !

The initial contact man Jeff was great - he listened to what I wanted, had deck samples to look at, showed me deck photos on his I Pad, and via email sent the 'floor plan' and bid within 3 days. Once I got the OK from my HOA, work started right away. The 2 man crew showed up on time every day and worked steadily through to near 5 PM. The lead crewman Mike took such amazing ownership of the project - he was rightfully proud of the construction, tending to every detail and asking when he had a question. Both men were pleasant and true craftsmen - they could make circular saws sing! Every edge, every screw, every board was professionally positioned. I feel confident that my deck will stay looking good for many years to come. Clean up was excellent and they did not trample my flowerbeds.
Description of Work: Austin Deck built a fantastic deck in my backyard. I am sure all my friends will have "Deck Envy" once they see it. This beautiful, bi-level Fiberon deck was constructed in 5 1/2 working days. No hammering for weeks on end! The deck has a landing, wrap around steps to the lower level, and 2 sets of steps going out into the yard. The black powder coated railing with the cedar posts is stunning. The L shaped bench has a back rest and is nice and wide.

We had an old deck in need of a complete overhaul and called several companies to provide estimates for doing the work. We called Austin Deck Company on the basis of their great ratings and feedback on Angie's List. They were responsive to our request for an estimate, provided us two alternative scenarios as requested to give us two options to consider(complete redo, versus partial/phased redo), and gave us an estimate at a competitive price. From the moment we hired them to do the job, to the moment they finished, they kept us informed about the schedule to begin and complete the work and they stuck to it. They worked with us to take care of special needs in the design and construction. Their crew worked hard to do a good job on the deck, and Dennis kept an additional eye on the details to be sure that everything was done right. Part of the work required a transition from a tile patio to the wood deck, which required attention to detail to ensure a smooth transition between the two materials without trip hazards etc. They worked hard to get it exact. My husband said that one of the guys on the crew said that Dennis told them that they are an A+ company, not an A- company. They definitely did an A+ job. The final price was as quoted. The work was done on time. They were professional in every respect. We will use them again in the future for the remaining second phase of work on our deck and give them our highest recommendation to friends without reservation.

We were very pleased with the work from Austin Deck Company. Their bid was very competitive with other bids we received. It was a pleasure working with Abe, he was very instrumental in helping with the selection of composite and also with creating additions to our decking. The crew, Josh & Michael were very polite and great at explaining the progress of each day. Abe came out often during the construction to check on progress and go over items with us. Overall, Abe and his crew are creative, courteous, prompt and conscientious. Our deck looks great and we are very happy with the way it turned out. Thank you Austin Deck Company... Ricky & Phillip

The deck looks great and I am very pleased with everything. Austin Deck is very professional, prompt, courteous and affordable. I would use them again and they will be back later to build an upstairs balcony railing to match the deck railing. I like the feature board they use in deck construction. Deck area was about 450sf, two-level. Near the house they had to dig out a lot of dirt to make the deck fit just below the door sill. (Another deck company told me I had to use a concrete slab there instead of a deck, which I didn't like.) Two guys worked 5 days. On some decisions I suggested taking the easy way out, but they did it the better way. They definitely go for a quality job.

From the time I first spoke to Mr. Jim Dailey at Austin Deck Company to inquire about obtaining a bid on a new deck to the final inspection on completion I could not have been happier with the gentle professional manner, the refreshing ideas, the daily oversight, the quality work and of course the finished product. He answered and handled any concerns that I had and was one of the most enjoyable people to work with I have encountered. I am still amazed at the amount of work and skill it takes to construct an elevated deck that I had Austin Deck Company do for my home. Description of Work: I had the Austin Deck Company install an elevated deck of 840 sq ft as well as stairs and railings. I used composite material of ChoiceDek.
