Austin Deck built the original deck (previous owners) and it was a beautifully built deck. Fine furniture, I like to say, compared to most decks I see in our very nice neighborhood. So I called them when it was obvious that small repairs wouldn't cut it any longer. We discussed all the possibilities including building a completely new deck. To shorten the story, they were willing to use the existing skirting (which meant removing it for the new floor to be installed and then replacing it), replacing damaged pieces as needed. This shows what a good job they did 20 years ago as the foundation of the deck was still in good shape as well as most of the railing and skirting. We basically have a new deck without having to spend an additional $10,000.00. I had other Angie's List A-rated companies tell me this was a "stupid" idea and they were not interested. Additionally, Jim and Dennis are THE NICEST and most professional guys you will ever work with. They are craftsmen not just deck builders. Highly recommend! By the way, they were very accommodating to my crazy summer schedule and completed all this in 4 days of work. Excellent and trustworthy crew as well.

Those guys are just artists. He is just in a class my himself as far as people I've ever dealt with. He was very intelligent and very sophisticated person. He was very friendly and easy to work with. He has a website. He presents you with a really divine project and prices easily understood and doesn't change anything. No hidden problems. His workmen actually came out here and did the work, those are the best workers I ever saw, I have ever run across.

Jeff and his crew did amazing work. The deck screening includes more than 2000 square feet of screen and involved complicated angles. In addition we chose to use a vertical design as well as a material that they had not worked with before. It is extremely well and solidly constructed and looks great. I definitely recommend Jeff and team!

If I could give Jeff and his crew an A+, I would. I knew when I bought my new-to-me home that one of the first projects would have to be replacing the deck. It was way too big and, most importantly, rotten to the point of being dangerous (as in my 30-pound dog fell through!). But the proposals I was getting were for about the same size deck as I had, which, as I had already explained, I thought was too big and for prices that, to me, were nothing short of obscene. I wanted a smaller deck than I had but one with a couple of levels to make the most of my sloping, terraced back yard. Based on reviews on Angie's List, I called Jeff. He called back almost immediately. More importantly, Jeff actually listened. And he gave me a plan that reflected what I said I wanted. And Jeff was marvelously flexible. When I got home one day and wasn't pleased with the staircase, I called Jeff, who came over almost immediately, and not only said "no problem" and got Mike to rebuild it along the lines I wanted but Jeff went on to design a beautiful bannister to echo the benches. Jeff also gave me real information -- rather than just assumptions or opinions -- regarding deck material. Everyone else I had talked to just assumed I would use composite decking or ipe. But I had researched this issue thoroughly and had decided I really wanted some grade of heart redwood (like the house) and needed to get it from California (since we in Texas can apparently no longer buy it at a competitive price). Jeff was not only okay with that (even though he wouldn't get any markup on the wood), he actually "admitted" that his own 20+ year-old deck is also redwood. Mike, who actually built most of the deck, is a true craftsman. I wish I could attach pictures of the boards he scribed to fit the stone in the chimney and a retaining wall ... and the gorgeous benches and steps .... Removal and haul off of the old deck and construction of the new one took about 6 weeks. Mike and Brandon cleaned up the deck area before they left. And Jeff had another member of his crew to come pick up and haul off the "remains" afterwards. I honestly could not be more pleased with Mike, Jeff, and Austin Deck Co. I recommend them with no reservation whatsoever.

Very pleased with Jim at Austin Deck Co. He was good with communication as far as what the plan was, updating us on the progress and willing to work with us to accommodate future plans of our backyard. The job they did was outstanding. It turned even better than we had expected. I would definitely recommend him and will use him again if needed! A+++

Austin Deck Company was the best part of the backyard remodel that we did. They originally built our deck in 1996, and we used them to do the upgrade because they were so good then, so same company, same people. They were able to design the deck to fit our needs. We weren't sure exactly how they were going to be able to do it because we have different elevations. He made it very good, I added to it, but the design was basically the same. We just made it bigger this time. Jeff Daily is the person we worked with and he is a joy to work with. He is responsive and adaptive. We had to have him postpone some of the work because of the pool company not doing what they said they were going to do so he adapted very well.

Hands down the best experience I have ever had with a home remodeling project, the Austin Deck Company were super easy to work with. Abe worked with us from start to finish, he had some great ideas, was open to suggestions and kept us constantly up to date on what was happening. He took care of all the permitting work with the city, was always available for questions and very prompt to respond to anything we needed. Rick and Jonathan did the demolition and construction work. They were very skilled, and their workmanship together with Abe's design resulted in a beautiful deck that we will be enjoying for years to come. Could not be happier, and would recommend the Austin Deck Company to anyone.

Our experience with Austin Deck was tremendous. One's perception of any company starts with the first person you meet and Jim Dailey is the kind of guy that gives you confidence that he knows what he is doing and that he has been doing it for a long time. He's very professional and offers guidance and advice as to what your options are. We weren't sure what we wanted to do and Jim was very helpful and we are thrilled with our new deck. The Austin Deck team is fast. Jim sent two men to our house and they removed all the existing wood quickly, completely and neatly. They replaced all the decking and installed the iron railing in just a few days. They're not only fast, but they're precise in their work. Every cut, every corner, and every board that needed to butt up to the house was done precisely and neatly. It looks like a professional did it and not an amateur. Jim also has a special way of laying the deck boards so the overall design has the boards in the same length so you don't have that staggered pattern. It also reduces the opportunity for water to go between all those boards that are typically butted up against each other. Those joints and cracks are virtually eliminated except for in a few places. His design also ensures that each board covers a joist and eliminates having two boards joining over a 2 inch joist. It's usually at these joints that boards start to rot because the nails only have about 3/4 of an inches to go into. Jim has solved that problem. Originally we thought about using cedar but chose not to because we thought we'd just cover it with a semi-transparent or solid stain so it wouldn't matter. What we really wanted was a deck that look like rich natural wood and not one that was painted. Jim recommended someone he knew, Wood Care Solutions, who came out and stained the treated pine and it looks rich and fabulous. Austin Deck did a superb job all the way around and I highly recommend them to everyone.

Rick and Jonathan (father and son) performed all the work, including removing old rotten decking. When the new wood (cedar) was delivered at the house I remember noticing how careful they were transporting the wood to the back yard - very meticulously stacking each piece. They moved carefully to avoid bumping into the fence and house. All work was done professionally and with smiles on their faces - seemed to enjoy their work. The work was completed on schedule and looked beautiful. I plan on recommending them to everyone!

I really liked working with Abe. His suggestions, ideas, questions, quickness in communication, and thoughtfulness made it easy to come up with a plan we were all happy with. And I love the way it turned out. It's out of a composition material with an iron railing and stairs. A very classy design that will be easy to maintain and enjoy. The crew (Mike and Brandon) were very punctual, friendly, and very knowledgeable in what they were doing. They were careful and took their time making everything precise(which you want in a deck).They cleaned up every day and things were hauled off in a timely fashion. They just did an A+ job in all categories!!! They were nice to work with. Looking forward to many relaxing fun times on our new deck!! If I had another deck to do, I would call them immediately!

Austin Deck Company was a great company. We would hire them again and highly recommend them. Dennis Krug was incredibly patient with us. It took us two years to settle on a design and make the call to tackle this big project. To be certain about our decision, we took several bids from other companies, and we kept returning to Dennis. Dennis referred us to their wood supplier to look at all the samples and be certain we were choosing the one we wanted the most. He also talked with other clients and got us permission to go look at their decks. They were straightforward about their pricing and about their scheduling. They started and finished on time. They were neat, and they did very good work. In the middle of the project, we had a couple changes to make, and ADC accepted the changes without complaint. We were fortunate that the changes didn't impact our price, either. We are so happy with our beautiful deck! It opens up our views and makes our yard so friendly and accessible. It's a true entertaining space.

Fantastic! Abe and I went back and forth with ideas and drawings and finally decided on the perfect one. They were friendly and punctual. When they said they would be here to work they were here and worked hard. They built steps and put on railings that matched the patio railings. The floor of the deck is maintenance free material which is phenomenal. Abe even took the time to research solar lights for us. We get so many compliments on our deck. I highly recommend Abe and his team at Austin Deck Co.

Austin Deck Company (ADC) did a wonderful job building our new deck. We were recommended by neighbors to contact ADC, and I am glad we did. Abe was very thoughtful regarding our needs and limitations. We had a tiny area for the new deck to be built which also was close to the ground. Abe didn't try to sell us the most expensive option, but rather one of the cheaper, yet most likely to last option. Granted, the deck is made of a composite material that has a plastic shell, but it was warranted against corrosion from the ground that was touching the bottom of the deck in some instances. I am very glad we listened to his advice. We love our deck and loved the process with ADC. We would highly recommend them to anybody.

Came out for the estimate and waited 3 days to tell us that either they would lose money because they didn't know how to do to the style we were looking for or would have to charge us extra. i just felt like the job was too small and they didn't want to do it. but why not say that up front? disappointing.

It went perfectly from start to finish. My husband and I were having a big party and wanted to utilize part of the outdoors but weren't happy with our current decking situation. I called Abe Oeltjen and he was able to come out the next morning. He established that our current deck was rotting and couldn't be refinished. We then discussed what our use for the deck would be and he came up with a remodel that met our needs exactly. Since we were working on a 10 day deadline for our party, time was of the essence and the entire crew knew it. Mike and Jose were there everyday by 7:15 ready to work by 7:30. They were polite and respectful and cleaned up their work area at the end of each day. They actually finished 2 days ahead of schedule with no hiccups! The next day we found 1 board that was slightly split and Abe came out in a downpour to replace it as well as install our gate which arrived well before it was expected! I cannot say enough about their customer service! We truly could not have asked for anything more and we are receiving compliment after compliment on the finished product! Our old wooden deck started to rot and needed some repairs. When Abe Oeltjen of the Austin Deck Company came to our house, he showed us several different choices of materials,answered all our questions, took all the necessary measurements and very shortly thereafter he sent us a proposal not only for a new deck but also for the repair of our existing deck. The detailed proposal together with Abe's friendly and very knowledgeable manner convinced us that we have chosen the perfect company to build our new deck. After we had all the necessary permits (HOA, Abe was obtaining the city permits) the work started on a Monday morning. Within one week Abe and his crew had removed the old deck and built a beautiful new composite deck. Some minor issues were addressed timely and corrected to our full satisfaction. They always arrived on time in the morning and it was a pleasure to watch their high quality workmanship. I especially want to acknowledge Mike from the crew, he even came on a Saturday to finish up the work and clean up nicely around the work area. We had decided to get a powder-coated steel railing which had to be custom-made to fit our deck's dimensions. The railing arrived about two weeks later and was installed in just one day. Upon completion of our deck the city inspector identified two minor problems which were resolved by Abe without our involvement and to our full satisfaction. We love our new deck and our friends and neighbors have already complimented us on this beautiful and very well made deck. We highly recommend the Austin Deck Company to everyone and we would definitely use them again!

I reached out to Austin Deck because they had great reviews on Angie's List. Within 5 minutes of leaving a voicemail, Abe reached out to me. From then on out that was how responsive he was, if he ever missed a call, which was rare. Abe was super professional, enjoyable to work with, honest, and overall just a very nice person (someone you would want to have a beer with)! He came to the house and took a look at my situation. At first, all I wanted was a redecking, but he looked at what I had and advised that it would probably be best just to rip everything out and start from scratch. I had received 3 different quotes that were all way above my budget and they were just for redecking, so naturally I was concerned when he said to start over, but when I got my quote it was perfect. He made really great suggestions, used great materials, and gave me an honest price! From there it was a matter of a couple of days due to rain delay that he got started. I told him that I had a tight schedule and he was completely flexible to it. His guys came out and on the first day ripped everything out. They then started building and I noticed that the deck looked shorter than what I thought we had agreed on. I called Abe and within minutes of my call he was at my house to look at it. We agreed that it was a miscommunication and he said he would cover the costs! This was completely true to form for Abe, he was very fair. 5 days from start to finish I had an incredibly beautiful deck. I don't have an eye for these things and Abe was able to make amazing recommendations that led to a perfect projec. I am so incredibly satisfied and grateful with the work they did that I wish they were a general contractor and could do other projects in my house. I would use Austin Deck again in a heartbeat!

It was a pleasure working with Austin Deck Company, especially working with Abe and Josh. They were personable, knowledgeable, helpful, answered questions, helped me make key decisions about my deck, and corrected any issues immediately. They were easily available when I needed to reach them and the work performed was excellent. I love my new deck and appreciate what a good experience it was. The men arrived on Monday and worked for 3 days in the freezing weather to complete the deck. Each post was set in concrete, all nails and screws are in perfect alignment, the deck has a bench on it and all edges were rounded and finished. Their work is just superior.

These guys did a great job. They provided (1) lots of good design suggestions, (2) attended to details in craftsmanship that I would not have even thought of, (3) Showed up on schedule and did the work on time, (4) did the work quickly and left the work area clean, (5) provided excellent followup to ensure the job was perfect. From the competitive price, the professionalism, to the quality of work, I've got nothing but good things to say about our experience with Austin Deck Co.

Jeff and his crew were very professional from beginning to end. I encountered problems with getting permits from the city but they were able to obtain them. The project came in on budget and on time. We were very pleased with all aspects of their job and would not hesitate to recommend them.

We were looking to build a 400 sq. ft. wood deck on the back of our home. The bid we received from Austin Deck Company was a good price, and the quality of their work looked impressive. Jim was able to work with us and design a deck that maximized our square footage on the back of our home, and create a design that looked great. The project took approximately 4 days, and the craftsman were very professional and neat. Once the project was established, no one ever needed to enter the home to complete the project. After 4 days, we had a beautiful 440 sq. ft. cedar deck with a 10 ft. angled bench to cap off the far corner. It is a beautiful deck and definitely the highlight of our backyard.

An "A" rating is not high enough for the work done by Austin Deck Company. We are completely pleased and impressed with the quality of work and materials used. Everyone was very pleasant to work with and they built it just like I wanted. The price was not the lowest quote we received, but I felt confident in choosing them and I was right. I would highly recommend Austin Deck Company and would definitely use them again.
