At this time we have two employees, which include our office manager. We do most of the work ourselves. As a Contractor subs are needed at times in different areas. We provide free estimates on work, and provide a written proposal. We do work time and materials, $75.00 service call, then $70.00 an hour for the lead person, $35.00 an hour for any additional people. In the event of emergency calls in the evening or on weekends we charge a $150 service call and $100 a hour for labor.

They arrived with the new plywood; it started raining. They had plastic to cover the new material. All sawing was done outside. They worked quickly and answered any and all questions. When all work was complete and all plumbing re-connected, they checked for any leaks. One was possible at the P-trap. They asked me to put a bowl under it and watch for any leak. I called the next morning with news of a leak. They came by that afternoon and repaired the leak. Everything was completed. The lead man told me to call if it started leaking again. On Monday, after a weekend of use, the lead man called to make sure there had been no leak. There was not. Great job!
Description of Work: Old plumbing leak had deteriorated decking under vinyl in guest bath and the floor was sinking in. Tile & cabinetwork had to be removed; flooring removed; plumbing disconnected; toilet removed; decking cut-out; and search for any leaks. No current leaks found (old leak at shower wall had pooled under base cabinet). Replaced bad decking with plywood; replaced vinly flooring; re-installed toilet, base cabinet, & tilework; re-connected all plumbing & drains; caulked tile and cabinet joint; and cleaned-up.

Al was flexible with whatever I requested, and he examined the house thoroughly to determine what needed to be done. He gave me a detailed explanation of how he planned to make each of the repairs, and he seemed committed to doing a quality job. The prices that he quoted were just too high with a price of $575 for the back door and squirrel hole.
Description of Work: Al made a proposal to replace the weatherstrip seal, to caulk, and to adjust the back door to stop leaking rain. He included a repair of a squirrel hole about 2 x 3 inches in the fascia. He also provided an estimate to replace about half of the siding with smooth Hardiplank lap siding with no painting.

We had a water leak from the shower drain into the lower level. Al showed for assessment and gave us an estimate. Later, James showed up to crack open the drywall, fix the leak in the shower and redo the drywall. They were very professional and punctual. After 3 to 4 days, we still had leaks. Al and James promptly showed up and identified the cause and fixed it for us. They are a bit pricey, but the quality is good

A-1 It says it all in the above box. Two projects: Al the Handyman handled them both professionally: timely, well organized, pleasant, broad examples with appropriate suggestions tied to each specific project. A "don't": He did NOT go over his originally quoted estimate!!!
Description of Work: Al the Handyman came to the house to discuss laying new kitchen flooring. He returned with several samples so I could decide which sample would best coordinate with adjacent flooring. He described the process of delivering the flooring material to our home three days prior to actually laying the floor. Like clockwork, Al brougnt the flooring material and carried it into the house for humidity control; returned on the third day as promised; and, with one assistant, oversaw the project and completed it in one day. The floor is absolutely beautiful! I could not be more happy! He also replaced my old toilet through the city's Water Wise program. Again, this also was handled in a complete and professional manner. I am also very happy with this project as well!

Also had to ask other sub to finish painting porch posts all the way down, (he had stopped a few inches from bottom) and put part of board back together that had been broken off during cleaning it off and to take off bits of metal nailed to the board. All of this should have been done as part of the "scrape and paint porch posts."The paint on the house had weathered and changed. Therefore, the paint I provided did not match some of the house perfectly. I asked the other sub to only paint a thin line over caulk that had been added, only covering the caulk and not spread out over the siding because it did not match perfectly and would show if spread further than the caulk line. The subs had left dirty hand prints adjacent to this caulk line I asked him to wash them off with water. Instead, he painted over the hand prints and of course, it shows horribly. I asked him to clean some other hand prints left on a high part of the house. HE PAINTED OVER THOSE, TOO, AND IT SHOWS. Why was it so difficult to just clean them off? Al came over the day after the construction was finished to be paid and go over work. He said he would send sub back to do end caps. I attempted to show him where the paint does not match and at that time of the day, with the sun shining on the house, it was hard to tell so I said never mind fixing it . Unfortunately, later that day, when there were shadows, and he was gone, it shows very much. Al put a screen/vent over the hole above the dryer vent and it looks barely okay. The vent/screen did not fit so he cut one down. He had placed it so that part of it was in the hole and part of it was outside the hole, looked bad. I had to tell him at least three times I wanted the whole thing outside the hole so it would be covered before he would change it. It looks better than a gaping hole in the wall but it also looks pretty tacky. The reason I didn't tell him to find something that fit but honestly, it was such a struggle to get him just to put the entire piece of vent/screen on the outside of the wall, I was beat. It is really hard going up against a guy who is loud, way over six feet tall and unrelenting. Not pleasant, as I said earlier. I had had it with standing over and arguing with the subs about what I wanted and I had no energy left. I paid him, he said the sub would be over later to attach the end caps and he left. The sub did return later, argued with me about the end caps, repeat of the first time. I suggested solutions to the problems he said were insurmountable, it worked, he did it well, they look good. It all turned out pretty well, Al's subs are very capable. But why did it have to be such a struggle? Owning my own business, I work with the public every day. I cannot imagine that the amount of obstinacy, argumentativeness and intimidation Al and his crew engaged in could be beneficial. All I know is it sure wasn't fun.
Description of Work: Caulk and paint gapped corner of garage. Apply fascia and soffit to front half of house, tie into existing trim on back of house, improving the transition and adding endcaps, adding new metal drip edge on front of house, paint new trim. Build cover and and install vent over pipe chase and dryer exhaust, scrape old part, paint all. Scrape and paint vents on both sides of house. Replace two sections of hardieboard, paint. Build furdown onto existing bay window, trim and paint to customer's specs. Remove 2x4 against brick wall on porch, scrape and paint. Scrape and paint two posts on front porch. Al came to see what needed to be done, offered a bid. I accepted his bid, told him I wanted to start when I got money, approx. 2-3 months later. Called Al when money arrived, said I wanted to possibly add some other things. Al came and wrote down the new things, we went over the original things to be done, Al said he would email me with individual prices on new things so I could determine what I could afford to add. He sent an email with all the new things added together.I emailed him and asked if he could price them individually as we discussed. He replied it would cost extra to do them separately. I CALLED and explained/reminded that I needed prices separately to determine what I could afford to add. He emailed the list individually priced. I decided to add "cover pipe chase on rear with hardi, scrape, prime and paint the frame of chase, install dryer vent in chase, $185" (there was an additional small hole directly above the chase, dryer vent that we had discussed and agreed to. I neglected to notice in the contract it had been left out) and "Add drip edge along side of roof by garage, $150.00." Construction began on Feb 17th, with Al giving instructions to subs on what to do. I observed and discussed specifics during part of this process. Construction went well, subs doing good quality work, and on Fri I asked sub about the chase cover and two vents. He said he had only been informed of one vent, not two. I called Al at approx 5:30 Fri. evening and asked about the second vent not being included in subs' job. He said he didn't know what I was talking about, I reminded him, he yelled and said I had been, "adding things and adding things and adding things and adding things." I asked him what he was talking about and he continued to yell and said he was sorry but he was tired and it was Friday evening and could we talk about this later. I said yes, hung up. VERY UNPLEASANT AND UNNECESSARY RUDENESS. During Monday's work, good quality work was still happening but sub said endcaps to cover transition at fascia line would not work, couldn't be done and function/look good. I reluctantly agreed to leave them off, did not call Al because the last time I called he was horrible and upleasant.

Al was great. He showed up on time to every appointment. It took a little longer than expected, but this was due to humid conditions not allowing things to dry. We will definitely use Al again for additional work on the house.
Description of Work: Our garage had major water damage due to a frozen pipe in the attic. The ceiling collapsed and we also had damage to the walls. Al replaced the ceiling, drywall, and also installed a latter & additional storage space in the attic.
Came out very quickly & fixed a leak in the apartment. Prompt estimate and got to work within a few days. Professional work crew. Al came out frequently and met with me to cover additional work. They had some important and significant options they offered which improved the overall result. Cleaned up after their work. Went the second mile with me on several issues.
Description of Work: Fixed leak on an emergency basis. Installed shower unit and reshaped wall and ceiling to fit & painted. Installed sinks, ceiling fans, electrical outlets, stove hood, toilets.

The first contractor I called quoted $5000 and was uncertain he could match the paint to the rest of the duplex. He also wanted to do some other repairs as well. Al's quote was so much less that I worried a bit, but decided to trust him. He said that matching the paint would not be a problem (I've had trouble in the past, it's an odd color). I had to be out of town for 4 weeks, and wanted this done while I was gone; he said it would only take a few days. I came back to find both sides perfect. The only issue was that he had taken the entire 4 weeks to do the job (the tenant let me know but had not been bothered by it). He apologized for this, if I'd been here perhaps things might have gone faster. I would absolutely have him do other work for me.

Mike who came out was friendly, professional and attentive. In certain areas of the caulk and silicon he just went over it when I wanted it scraped out, so because it is by the hour I did not want him to redo it though he would have. However when I did point out spots that were missed he took care of them no problem. He did not charge me for the time he went pass because of it. Over all job took about an hour longer then quoted, but Mike did let me know as situations changed. The only issue I had is a misunderstanding of the quote, but we worked it out and split the difference. Angie's list needs to have a maybe in the would you use this company again.

The outdoor faucet had been leaking for some time. As far as the indoor leaky hot water faucet, I was able to turn the latter faucet off some months ago. I called Al the Handyman twice -- he admitted he accidentally deleted my phone number from the first call. As soon as I called him a second time, he was very professional, apologetic (about deleting my phone message), and he arranged with me to get the job done quickly (next day service). I decided to go with a handyman for this piece of work because I have paid plumbers a lot of money in the past and was hoping to save a bit of money. Al was able to arrive a little earlier than our previously scheduled time, and he agreed to call me ahead of appointment time so I did not have to be sitting at home waiting for half a day. The service call was $95, the parts totaled $25. I am delighted that the leaks have been addressed, and I appreciate Al, the Handyman's professionalism and promptness. I will call Al again in the future, possibly for bigger tasks, when needed.
Description of Work: Al replaced an outdoor faucet that was leaking, and he replaced a part that caused an indoor hot water faucet to leak.

Very honest people. Very good work. Did a great job of making these repairs blend in without having to redo, repaint everything. Had to wait for ordered doors to arrive but that should be expected these days of small inventories and I wanted probably what is considered a non-standard color. I really don't know about the price point. Really didn't shop around to see what other similar companies would want. But I am very happy with the work done. It looks great!
Description of Work: Had 3 door replaced, exterior siding replaced, exterior wood trim replace, painting of all new surfaces (and some old ones), weatherstripping replaced, general trim work done.
