I was remodeling my 3 bathrooms and each needed a frameless shower door. I called and asked if we could do this one at a time, as each bathroom gets done and they said yes. Later I found out they charged me extra for each time they had to come out to install, very disappointed. Also the guy who came to take measurements was one of the rudest people I have worked with , he made some really strange comments and then measured one mirror incorrectly and then completely blamed it on us. Honestly when he was taking measurements , I wasnt hovering over to see if he was writing down 29.5 or 28.5 , so how can I be blamed ?

Initially, the shower leaked quite a bit, but Alamo was out fairly quickly to address that. The guys on that visit seemed to think poorly of how well the initial crew did the job, but took care of things pretty quickly. We waited several days, then tried the shower again. It *still* had some leaks. I repaired it myself.

Called to have a double-paned window repaired. The person that answered the phone was very rude. They said they were too busy to talk to any customers right now and to call back in a week and a half if I can't find someone else to fix the window.

Thank you for your review. Forgive me for saying so sir, but If a simple 30-second phone call was enough for you to form a complete opinion of this company it's probably best that we parted ways early. Nobody here is intentionally rude, sometimes however, we are extraordinarily busy. Which is why we were not taking new work orders at the time of your call.

I called and left a message and never heard back. I called again a few days later and got a very rude response from the company saying that a dispatcher would call me in a few days. They never did. So I gave them one last try and they came by to give an estimate. After they surveyed the glass they said they would call later that day or the next with an estimate. Late the next day I get a call that they couldn't do it and they should've never come over in the first place because they don't work with my type of windows. Completely unprofessional from the outset.

I am sorry that you were dissatisfied with our performance regarding your estimate request. We receive roughly 15-20 estimate requests per day and we try to respond to them as quickly as possible with special attention to, of course, emergency situations where the customer has a broken glass and has no climate control and/or security. I show you on our schedule on April 3, 2012 with special instructions to call ahead. Whether you were available on that day was not recorded. Ultimately we did manage to meet with you and discovered that you have a type of window that is difficult to re-glaze without damaging the window, and which we as a company have opted not to work on. We realize that this was a disappointment for you. Please know that after creating the work order, scheduling and investing the expense of truck, gas, man hours, and phone calls, we were just as disappointed as you were. I sincerely hope that you are able to get your windows fixed soon.

Members - you were an absolute pleasure to work with. You hired us to do the work, and then allowed us to do the work at our own pace. You were patient and accommodating to the very last moment. It's not difficult to do a quality job when a customer possesses common sense and understanding. You were not only motivated by the desire to have the work done, but with the safety of our technicians. That is rare. Five stars to you.

One of the conditions to the sale of a home I recently purchased was that four windows had to be repaired for fogging. The previous owners hired these clowns to do the repair. Firstly, the windows they repaired all had excess silicon seeping out of the window frames; alot of it (in some cases, as much as 2 tablespoons). They also left writing on one window, which I'll have to climb on the roof of the porch to clean off. And we also found that they repaired the wrong window. There were two windows, side by side. The broken one clearly had moisture on the inside, and was marked with a post it note, as were the other fogged windows. But they fixed a perfectly good window instead. The previous owners didn't notice as they were moving out a few days later. When I called to complain, the woman who answered the phone (easily a three pack / day smoker) was rude and unfriendly. She accused us of lying and said that we waited too long to call. It was 7 weeks from the date on the receipt. We closed a week after the repair, it took us a month to move in, and several weeks to obtain a copy of the receipt. When I told her that this wasn't a good customer experience, she told me (and I quote): "My ultimate goal is to protect the company." When I responded that her goal should be customer satisfaction, she told me "We've been in business 50 years, and no-one's had a problem before." I responded that I would surely write a review online about my experience so people would know that at least one person had a problem. and her response: "You young people go running online only when you have a problem. " Then she hung up on me half way through my next sentence. Great customer service, lady. You should be a model for all things that shouldn't be done on a customer service call.

My name is Cindi and I am the "great customer service lady" at Alamo Glass who is the model for "all things that shouldn't be done." I'd like to preface my response to this review by saying that it amazes me that someone who was not a customer of our company, who did not arrange to have work done, and who was not present when the work was ordered and/or completed ... would resort to a get-even strategy such as the abuse of a quality organization like Angie's List by leaving an unwarranted and incorrect review ... and get away with it. We received a phone call that an insulated unit we installed had failed. We file our records by customer name, so we asked for the name to look up the work order. The name we were given was the correct name associated with the work order so we sent a man out to investigate the problem (the next day, which I figure is pretty effective responsiveness). He arrived on time (which I figure is pretty punctual). Our man returned to inform us that there was a failed unit, but it was not one of the ones we installed. I tried to call the customer back and got a recording that the number had been disconnected, so I had no way to respond to the original call, and held the work order on my desk. Later that afternoon I received a call from the same person and informed him that the number I had on file on his original work order wouldn't go through and apologized for not getting back with him. He informed me that "oh, that number's not any good any more, here's a new one." Vague, but fairly unremarkable turn of events. Now, if he had informed me at this point that he was misrepresenting himself as the person we had the contract with, and was not the person who ordered or paid for the work, I would have informed him then that warranties are nontransferable for just such a reason as this; he was not there ... he has no way of knowing if a mistake was made and if so, on whose part. Instead he let me continue to think that he was the person we did the work for by allowing to call him by that name. Repeatedly. I then informed him that according to our research there was a failed unit, but not one of the ones we installed per our work order. He insisted that we had installed a unit in the wrong window, so I called the installer into the office and questioned him, at which point he assured me that they had installed the correct units and also that the man he met with and that I was on the phone with, was not the man that was listed on the work order. It was at this point that I confirmed that information with the caller. I was a little stunned to say the least when he admitted that he had allowed me to think that he was someone else. I informed him that warranties are not transferable to prevent just such confusion, and that we had done the work according to our work order, the customer had signed indicating satisfaction with the quality and manner of the work, and had paid the bill in full. We have no way to know what type of arrangements buyers and sellers have regarding improvements to accomplish a sale. The buyer may carry the cost for some repairs and the seller may carry others. We are not privy to any of those deals or details. There was a pause and then, "so you're not going to do anything for me." The answer was an emphatic "no." This man misrepresented himself, wasted our time searching for the work order, scheduling a call back, wasted our gas, our man's time and efforts, and he was clearly angry that we "weren't going to do anything for him. Ironically, had he been honest to begin with there is a very real possibility that we would have accepted that a mistake may have been made and at the very least given him a serious discount to have the matter resolved, simply because there are people out there like this man, and it's easier to maintain a positive reputation by absorbing additional costs to avoid "review blackmail." Additionally, my words to him were not that we have been in business fifty years and have never had a problem. This is a ridiculous statement as there is not a company in business that can make such a claim. I never accused him of lying, although representing himself as someone other than who he actually was, may have given me license to do so. The reference to my "protecting the company" is correct, but was taken out of context. Our primary goal is customer service which is indicated by our other reviews, and the fact that we have received super service awards from this very web site for the last three years running. Protection of the company's resources is equally important, as is adherence to our policies. The remark regarding the fact that most young people go running online when they have a problem is somewhat correct. I do not consider myself old enough to regard this man as "young people." I never said that. What I said was, people will typically make the effort to leave a review when they are dissatisfied, rather than if they have no complaints, which he has proven, especially considering the fact that he was not even our customer. This is a classic example of review blackmail. He threatened a bad review to try and coerce us into giving him his way and he followed through when we refused. From his perspective we are a "bunch of clowns." From our perspective he is an angry man with a bad window that he wants fixed at no charge, and will apparently resort to any level to accomplish that. Lastly, I'm at a pack a day, and trying to cut back, but that's really none of his business.

They were courteous and very professional. They returned my phone calls. Whenever I called they answered all of my questions in a courteous way. Unfortunately their services were not what we needed. We needed a four double paned or a triple paned window, and they only provided the replacement glass. They were very open about their services and the fact that they didn’t have what we were looking for. I would probably use their services in the future.

My entire, brief experience with Alamo Glass was weird and awkward: The technician came out to give an estimate on our front-door glass the morning after I first called Alamo, but there had been no appointment set nor any indication of when a technician would come out, so his arrival was a surprise. The technician was friendly and seemed well-meaning, but referred to me as "angel" and "sweetheart" and said that privacy glass was a good idea, so that "if you were running around the house butt-naked, no one could see the details." Uncomfortable! The technician told me that Alamo wouldn't cut the hole for the glass, but that he would submit the measurements for the glass so I could get an estimate. I heard from the shop at Alamo whithin the next few days: The estimate: $26 for a 14" x 24" piece of plain, tempered glass (more for privacy designs), and $150 for "labor". When I went into the cigarette smoke-filled shop to get just the glass, the woman who seemed to be the office manager said that if I didn't purchase the labor part of the quote, my charge for the measuring (wouldn't that be the "free estimate" advertised?!) would be $50. How is that a free estimate? I clarified that Alamo would not be willing to cut the needed hole in the door in which to frame the glass. The office manager confirmed this. So I clarified that the "labor" involved would have been the technician's putting four dots of putty on the corners of the piece of glass and placing it into the molding strips placed in the door by the carpenter, at which point the carpenter would need to finish the moulding frame-out on the other side of the glass. The office manager confirmed this. $150 for this?! Plus the cost of glass? So I asked her if the free estimate was still free if I purchased neither glass nor labor from Alamo. She said, "Of course." So I said, "Thanks," and left with the original measurements and plans to get a piece of glass cut from a company that actually seems to want business. (My clothes and hair also smelled like I'd just been in a bar, before the anti-smoking laws). Why did this place get such high marks on Angie's List? Google's unhappy reviews seem a better fit with my strange experience.
Description of Work: I asked for an estimate to have my 4 pie-shaped pieces of glass making a half-circle of light at the top part of my houses's front changed to a single, rectangular pane of privacy glass.

Thank you so much for your review, we appreciate any comments about a customer's experience as it allows us to address issues that need addressing. Often times we will go out to measure a window or other glass item without making an appointment as many times it is not necessary for the customer to be inconvenienced for us to get the information we need. We do not cut holes in wooden or metal doors for the insertion of glass as we are not metal or wood workers and we do not have the tools or skills necessary to perform this task in a quality manner. We work with glass. We do offer free estimates, and we provided you with one, but we do not offer free information. We do free estimates in good faith that we will have a chance at actually doing the work. The $50 charge was not for the estimate, it was for the service of providing you with the information incurred from the estimate. We do not routinely give out this information but we gave it to you anyway. We absorbed the cost of the gas and labor. Our minimum service charge is $150 for labor. Plus the cost of the glass. Most all companies in the glass industry have similar charging practices. The technician in question is no longer with the company. Our company gets high marks because we do good work at reasonable prices.

Alamo replied to my phone call in a timely manner. I requested a quote on a single full-length mirror. It struck me as being pretty expensive, so I asked if I would save any money by buying four full-length mirrors. That brought down the per-mirror price enough that I considered buying four of them, to be installed by Alamo on the backs of bedroom/bathroom doors. First, they came out to measure the doors. The mirrors themselves were of excellent quality (1/4" and "what you see is what you are"). They did a quality job of installation, using some type of mastic, as well as a chrome "frame" all across the bottom (no goofy-looking mirror holders on the sides). It was such a quality job, with the mirrors going from the edge of the bottom of the door to the edge of the top of the door. I'm very pleased. Joey, the installer, was very accommodating.

I called Alamo for an estimate to replace the outer pane of a double paned window that had been broken by our lawn service. They were able to send someone the next day to look at it. The price quoted seemed reasonable ($299 and some change). They ordered the window on Friday and came out on Monday to replace it. The gentleman doing the work was polite, efficient and very patient with my curious five year old son, who had to know every step of what was going on. He finished in about half an hour, replacing both panes of the window. We would absolutely use Alamo Glass again.
