A couple of weeks ago I broke the keyring of my BHS-3000C remote security switch and lost it. I asked for a replacement and was told they don't support that system any longer. I purchased a used remote and asked how to program it for use with my system. You must have service come out to program it but you also need to buy OUR remote. I have been a customer for 18 years and refuse to pay for service for something that should be very simple. I will be switching to another security monitoring company and new system that is customer serviceable.
Description of Work: No work was done, system will be replaced by another company or myself.

After poor customer service, long waiting periods on the phone, numerous disconnections and technicians who ARE NEVER on time, we found out today that ADT renewed our account for 3 years without our permission. My first question to its sales department was what happens in the event the house is sold, and I was told it was not a problem to cancel the service. Now, I am being told there is a huge fee to cancel the contract. You cannot cancel from the website and you cannot delete your credit card information from the website. ADT Services is both fraudulent and deceptive. We WILL NEVER use them again and would NEVER recommend it to anyone for any reason.

.I have an alarm inside my home and they're very good and responsive.It was already installed when I moved in the home and I just had to activate the service. They're very responsive which is really good for me. Sometimes I forget and open the door they going to be to my door in seconds. They'll contact family members if they can't get a hold of you.

They said they don't make that panel any more so they couldn't help me upgrade the system that had remote monitoring and that kind of stuff. When they did the installation, they left a mess in the closet where they drilled the hole. This created much dust on the carpet and they never did clean it up. The guy who came out stayed three hours longer talking and at the end he says, "well, the reason I stayed so long is because I have another appointment out here and they don't pay me mileage and since I live in the North part of town, I didn't want to have to go and come back." I thought that was short of unprofessional for a sales person to say.
Description of Work: I've had some experiences with alarm services. In fact one bad one with ADT. The wall panel where you make the settings when you leave was starting to go bad and I wanted them to come out and just replace the panel.

I might break my contract with them. They are absolutely terrible. We had a lightning strike which basically melted the security system and we had multiple issues trying to get them here. They charged us almost 100$ to get a quote. It was like a scam and we had to get the quote in order to get the security system. It took them two and half weeks to get us the quote. They lied; they said they need a cheque and they will not put it in the bank until they have done the work. Two days later it was already in the bank. I will not recommend them to anybody.

After 22 years of ADT service, we sold our home & moved into a rental while we found a retirement home. It only took 6 months to find a home (yes, we moved twice in 6 months - WHEW)! When we moved into the rental (4 blocks from our OLD home) ADT said that we had to pay the whole month at the old house AND also pay for the SAME MONTH at the rental home! I wanted them to pro-rate the last month at the old address. They were "updating" their system, so when I called to explain the situation, one person could only look at the old address, someone else was in charge of the new address! It took DAYS of calling & getting sent from person to person until I FINALLY found someone that had the capability to look at BOTH SYSTEMS AT THE SAME TIME!. THEN IT TOOK 3 MONTHS TO ACTUALLY SEE THAT THE CHARGES HAD BEEN CORRECTED. After all that hoopla, I decided that I didn't want that mass confusion with the new home, so I went with a differeent security provider. Here's the kicker, even IF I had wanted to transfer my ADT service to my new home, it is not possible! YOU CANNOT TRANSFER ADT SERVICE - IT STAYS WITH THAT ADDRESS! I would have to start a completely NEW 3 YEAR contract at my new address. So, technically, I would be responsible for TWO security services.. No, they said, for a minimum fee, (of several hundred dollars) I could have service at my NEW home & not have to continue the contract at my OLD home! BUT since I moved & didn't select ADT as my security company this time, I STILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE SERVICE AT THE OLD RENTAL PROPERTY! I HAVE TO PAY FOR SERVICES EVEN THOUGH I AM NOT RECEIVING THOSE SELF-SAME SERVICES! The only way I can get out of the contract is to pay 75% of the remaining monthly payments ($800.00)! I think, when someone moves, that should be a good enough reason to be let out of a contract. THEY WOULD BREAK THE CONTRACT - IF I STARTED A NEW ONE WITH THEM! WHY IS IT THAT I CANNOT HAVE THE SAME OPTION?
Description of Work: After 22 years as a customer, they refuse to let me out of a 3 year contract.

We have had one billing issue which went around and around for a couple of months. They are typically prompt. They came out once for equipment failure, and we were without service for about 5 days. Sometimes they are great but sometimes mediocre.
Description of Work: We use them for a home alarm system, and have had them for four years. We pay a montly bill of 55.00/month.

Vonage. I was obviously upset knowing that we have had no security on the property for two and a half years. We have paid almost $1,000.00 for no protection the last two and one half years. There was no apology for lack of service. Instead we were reprimanded for not testing our system more often. Obviously, it worked when Brinks was our security company. No offer made to reimburse us. We had to speak to a supervisor so we wouldn't be charged an extra month for discontinuing service. We would not recommend ADT to anyone and are in search of a new security company.
Description of Work: We had a security system installed at our home in 2007. The company we used was Brinks. Brinks was sold to Broadview and resold to ADT. Our phone system is Vonage. We were told by Brinks that additional wiring was required because we used Vonage. We paid an additional $ 110.00 to make the security system compatible. Yesterday we received an oral warning on the security system showing there was a problem. The person I spoke with told me to test the system. It wouldn't test properly and he tried to analyze the problem. He checked the system and told me it hadn't been operational since May 2010. He also told me that the system wasn't compatable with

Everything was timely, professional, and reasonably priced. But for the fact that, after paying and reminding, we still haven't gotten the remote phone control, we'd be very pleased.
Description of Work: All was fine until the end. We "added on" remote/phone, but have never seen them again to get it wrapped up and operational. The sales person and installer were superb, but this last bit of follow-through just hasn't happened.

First, we had an alarm-wired screen that was mal-functioning. ADT came on Friday, Oct 28. They identified the window screen and took it away. We were told that it would take 3 weeks before it would be returned. As our system has to be bypassed, and we have a window that can now easily be broken and entered, the house is basically unprotected. We asked if the screen could be fixed earlier. The serviceman said that he would ask that the repair be expedited. It is now almost 2 months later. We still have no screen and cannot get an answer when it will be repaired and put back in service. Second, I accidentally opened a letter sent my ADT to the former owner of this house at our address. (Usually mail to the former owner is forwarded.) This letter contained our security password! The letter states that ADT is committed to protecting our security; so why are they sending out our safety information to the people who no longer live here? We have called ADT about this. We get the response that they don't know how this could have happened. They have asked that we fax a copy of the letter to them, which we have now done twice. They do not call back as they have promised. Between these two issues, we are paying for inadequate service and can get no one in ADT's customer service department to work with us.
Description of Work: We have fire and burglar alarm services on our house, which is located in the country off a farm road. Our window screen are wired to alert in case of entry via that route. We have paid a monthly fee for the service and for equipment maintanence for several years now.

The sales representative and installer were excellent. They did the work as advertised and this considerable upgrade took only about half a day. I had one problem that was immediately fixed. During last winter's record cold, we had the furnace on more than usual. About 2 a.m., the upstairs element that listened for broken glass set off the alarm system. I called ADT and someone was at the house within an hour of the call. The technician noticed that the alarm element was very close to a heating vent, and that probably was the reason it triggered the alarm. He moved the alarm element about six feet from the vent, and that solved the problem. That was the only glitch in the system. When we decided to upgrade our alarm system, we did not consider switching to another company. ADT has given us outstanding service for about 15 years. We paid about two dollars a month extra to cover maintenance of any items. That is/was money well spent. As the alarm elements age, they are replaced, parts and labor, at no charge. I highly recommend ADT as an alarm company.
Description of Work: Since we were installing new windows throughout our home, we decided to upgrade our alarm system. We had used ADT for the past 15 years and were very pleased with their service. We had previously installed window screens which were wired to sound the alarm should there be an unauthorized entry at our windows. However, the wired window screens are no longer made. The ADT representative talked us through some of the newer technological advances since we had our system installed 15 years ago. For the windows, we decided on wireless which would send the alarm off should anyone try and enter. We also added a wireless breakage system which would go off should someone break the glass and try and enter without opening the window. The motion detector sensors we had installed 15 years ago that swept the living, dining, bedrooms, upstairs, and so on still worked fine, so they did not need to be replaced. We also installed a new electronic key pad, and an extra battery that extended the operation of the system to about 8 days should the power be off that long.

Curt was very professional...he stated he will get with Jessie and Eric to find out what is going on with my contract and why I have not received a hard copy and my keychain remote to instantly arm my system. I gave a overall grade of F because you should hold the company, supervisor and reps accountable when they tell you something and they don't follow through. That is bad business period. Don't make promises you don't intend to keep.
Description of Work: ADT wrote a amendment to my response in regards confirming I had a 2 year contract. I talked to Jessie who is a ADT Supervisor, and he assured me that I would get a hard copy of the contract stating I was under a 2 year contract. I have yet to see that paperwork. This morning I accidently tripped my alarm and talked to Curt who was very helpful in re testing my system. He ran through some tests because I had punched in my 4 digit code and hit cancel...but it did not pick up at the monitoring station. Curt informed me that my contract reflects a 3 year contract and not 2...and this is why I am filing this report. Also, my home is brand new and I paid the builder to install a full security system from DSC, it came with a keychain remote. When I signed with ADT I was promised a keychain remote and never received it. Small things do matter...especially when it comes to the security of my home and being able to arm or disarm the system instantly. Without the keychain remote...you have to arm your system with the wall mounted keypad..but it leaves a security gap of 80 seconds to give you enough time to pull out of the garage and close the garage door. There is no instant alarm like what you get with a keychain remote. Most home break ins...the criminals are in and out in less than 5 minutes and they do a s and grab and leave because they know the police are en route...giving them another 80 seconds before the alarm actually goes off...only gives them more time to steal more property.

Eric Thornell works for ADT the security monitoring company...I decided to go with ADT after he helped me out of a jam.Because he helped me I was willing to give ADT a try....he came over later the next day with a contract...Bottomline he told me that it was a 2 year contract so I agreed with it. Today I had a rep from ADT come out to see if I could install their new Pulse system...the rep took a look at my contract and informed I was locked in for 3 years not 2.I know I screwed up by not reading the fine print...but I asked Eric...and he told me 2 years...not 3 years.So the reason I am giving them a F rating is because he was dishonest and lied to me. I also informed the rep that after my contract with ADT is over...I am going to drop them. I really dont need to do business with a company if they are dishonest or if their representatives are dishonest to make a sale.
Description of Work: Eric is a sale rep for ADT Security...he signed me up for ADT monitoring.

The member's contract has been adjusted to a 2 year term. There was initial confusion during the consultation and installation of his system. ADT is committed to the peace of mind for all of our customers. In most instances we offer a 3 year term. We have corporate alliances with certain organizations that allow for a 2 year term.

ADT is really professional and johnny-on-the-spot when they are selling you something, but have an issue (alarm going off all night, etc) and they are nowhere to be found. Additionally, read the FINE PRINT. Even if you move, and your buyer wants to continue service, OH NO, they will bill you the remainder of the three year contract, and then sign the buyer up for a three year contract on top of that. And they had the gall to try to sell me another system at my NEW house (while still paying for the old one.) They have NO sense of company loyalty whatsoever. I will NEVER do business with this company, or any of the sleazy builders they have on their payroll, ever again.

The person who came to give an estimate of the cost was prompt, informative and professional. My system is over twenty years old, and I didn't really know what was available. She was most helpful explaining what would work best for me. The technician who came to do the installation was equally prompt, courteous and professional. He also helped me tweak how the alarms were wired to meet the needs for the way my house is utilized. I marked down a little on the cost; I think after paying monitoring fees for 20+ years it could have been a little lower (the cost included a discount for being a USAA member), but the ease of use from the old system is well worth the upgrade cost. It cost about the same to have the system installed the first time. I think after 20+ years I've gotten my money's worth! I might also add that I have never had an issue with ADT's monitoring. I'm very happy with their service.
