AC Electric

I chose them based on the recommendation of another electrician, and it was great! They showed up on time, did good work for a fair price, and cleaned up after themselves. I had no problems with the service.

The first time I used then, they did a great job. Fast service, nice technician, great rate. The second time I called them up because my main breaker was tripping, smelled like it was burning, and was hot. The office lady said they'd come out in the morning (today). Today there ended up being a giant ice storm, so I called to see if they would still be working, given the conditions. The lady said yes, once the roads were safer, and they'd call when they were on the way. A few hours later, no call, so I called back and she said they were still waiting. She advised me to turn off all electricity and stay somewhere else. I asked to be updated if they couldn't so I could call someone else, and she said of course. Fast forward to 5pm and nothing, and the breaker is getting hotter and smellier. I call back and get the electrician, and he said that at this point traffic was too bad on Mopac for him to come over and he'd come in the morning. I said fine, but that I was going to look for someone else in the meantime. I called up another highly rated company on Angie's List, and the owner answered, could tell I was concerned, and came right over. Problem solved. I called AC to let them know they wouldn't be needed in the morning, and the electrician just said "Good for you" and hung up. This bad review isn't because of bad service, or because of them not working in bad weather (which I TOTALLY get, ice and electricity don't mix), but because of the totally unprofessional way that they communicated with me. You don't tell someone to shut off all power and leave their home because it's dangerous, and then neglect to keep them informed that you aren't coming over to work after all.

I was impressed by the detail of work from initial survey, to pulling the City Permit, to arranging a date with Austin Energy to shut off power at my residence . AC Electric staff communicated all progress by email and phone. I can also say that their Office Manager was very helpful in providing me with answers to my many questions. Again accolades to AC Electric. I am pleased that I selected this company for my residential electric needs. Mr. Mike Short it was a pleasure working with you and your electricians.

This would entail replacing all of the 2-wire wiring in the house that was built in 1952. I said I didn't think that sounded right. He said he would call the City inspector. Late that night he sent an email saying the electric meter and breaker box needed to be replaced. He said he would not be able to do it until the middle of January. I sent him a reply asking which inspector he spoke with. He never responded. | |I called the City inspectors. They told me I only needed to pound in a grounding stake for the gas line to be grounded to. I found another electrician (Andy Reese at Lightning Volts) who agreed and grounded the gas system to a grounding rod he installed. Total price $400. I passed inspection 2 days later. | |AC Electric never made the call to the inspector as promised. He looked for the most expensive solution and declared it the only one. He kept me in freezing weather with no heat for an additional week while I sorted it out myself. | |I give AC Electric an "F" for trying to sell me something I didn't need, for failing to call the inspector as he said he would, and for leaving me in the cold when he knew it was freezing out.

The price was fine but he did not know what he was doing. He eventually completed the work but I had to help him. I felt like I knew more about the job than he did. He was not very professional.

Update: Changed my overall rating from D to C as the receptionist from AC called and explained that they were just too busy to perform any services. I gave the slightly higher rating because she was so professional and very nice. Mike, the head electrician at AC Electric, came out to our property one week after initial contact with the company. He looked around, got our info and list of needs and said he would email a bid. After two weeks and no further contact from Mike or AC Electric, I called back to see what was going on. I talked to a very nice woman who apologized profusely and said she would tell Mike and have him the info and said he would get back to us ASAP. Two weeks later, NOTHING! I called back again and had the same (very nice and apologetic) conversation all over again and was told Mike would get back to me. That was almost two weeks ago and, again, no contact. I really hate to give a company a bad review, especially since I have zero examples of the actual work they do but, I can't even give a mediocre review as we were just plain abandoned by Mike and AC Electric. Not sure about the price and quality but, responsiveness and professionalism are in the D and F areas. Even if he'd called back and told us he didn't want the work or that he just could not work with us I would have given straight C's!

I'm writing this review about a year after the work. The biggest impression I had was that next time I needed electrical service, I would call this company first.

I paid an additional cost to the $99 big deal. They made some mistakes, but they ended up making it right in the end. They were pretty responsive.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that we purchased. It was great. I wasn't here at the time but my wife seemed to have a good impression of them. We didn't have any problems.

I called AC Electric regarding the breaker issues after an inspection on our home. Debi (who is wonderful to deal with) and I spoke on the phone about the details. I was asked to provide photos of the breaker/box so Mike would be sure to have the correct one with him when he arrived. Mike arrived on time and corrected the issues quickly. He was very kind and professional. I would highly recommend AC Electric. Working with Debi and Mike was a nice experience.

We purchased a mid-1970's house in January 2013. Wiring throughout the house was aluminum, there were other electrical problems identified by the home inspection service. After researching the dangers of aluminum wiring from the '70's, we decided to have Copalum pigtails installed. We contacted AC Electric on the basis of the good reviews in Angie's List and even though we are located in California, working with Mike and Debi turned out to be easy and comfortable. They took care of all of the requested work in a timely and professional fashion. We had one problem during the work. Mike slipped and put his foot through the sheetrock ceiling in the garage. This was repaired promptly and professionally with no resistance from AC Electric. Although the Copalum process is expensive, we feel much better about the safety of the electrical system in the house. We are happy with the quality of the work and interactions with them and highly recommend them for your electrical contracting needs. We will be using them again for some additional work in the near future.

I just needed an extra electrical outlet for my dustbuster in my washer/dryer closet. It was an easy install according to the person doing the work. Outlet works great. No problems.

The technician was punctual, friendly and professional. He replaced three ballasts in the kitchen, worked on a ceiling fan in the den, and suggested a simple solution to stop a humming noise from a ceiling fan in the bedroom. He provided excellent service in all respect. AC Electric comes highly recommended and we will call them for all our electrical needs.

Was an all day job and did an excellent job. Was very professional and kept me advise of what was going on and the status of work being completed. Had power back up in time to get dinner going that evening.

The service was scheduled quickly and the electrician arrived exactly when he said. He was professional and efficient. I also received an estimate for future work that needs to be done.
