Abel Hernandez

I had used Abel once before for the exterior of my own home and he had done a decent job-not great, not bad- decent. I took 3 estimates for this job but gave greater weight to Abel since I had used him before. The first day all they did was tape down paper-all over the windows and floors. The second day they began spraying the walls without any prep whatsoever. When I quizzed the workers (not one spoke any English and they were barely older than 16) they acted like they didn't know what I was talking about when I asked them in Spanish about sandpaper or cleaning supplies. When I complained to Abel he said that they had already cleaned the walls. Then I realized half the beautiful trim had been painted with latex - oversprayed from the walls. When I complained to Abel they proceeded to paint over this latex layer with enamel-all this on top of unprepped enamel. They lost half of the beautiful old chrome cabinet pulls and replaced them with pewter ones when I complained. When I complained about the quality of work and the mistakes they never came back. Later I realized they had not used the quality of paint I had specified but 2 levels down from it. I also realized that in the den and utility room they did not remove nails from any of the walls. The paint is blistering and peeling off the trim and all the walls of the utility. I'm thankful they never even began the exterior. He left all the paint buckets, all the paper they had taped everywhere, all the trash everywhere around the house. 3 times during the week and a half he was there he tried to get me to pay him. I did given him 1 draw but not the other 2 times. Let me add that he and his crew were not there every day-they missed several days in the middle and I had to call them several times to get them to come back.
