Our AFCI breakers seemed to be randomly tripping in groups, and at the same time that some of our neighbors were having the same problem. It was determined that earlier breakers from this manufacturer had problems with electro-magnetic radiation (like radio waves) interfering with their internal electronics. The technician came out and changed all eight of our AFCI breakers. The owner of A-One, Karen, determined that our breakers were on warranty, which meant that we were charged nothing for parts. This saved us a significant amount of money. I was pleased with the service this company provided, and would recommend them.

We reached out to A-One to put an internet line in our office. The Electrician came to our office and began to complete the job. Half-way though the job, the Electrician abruptly stopped and said he needed to go get an extra part. He said he would come back to our office within one hour. The Electrician never showed up. He not only left the job incomplete, he left the office a mess. We called back several times that day asking where the Electrician went. We didn't get an answer until the next day. Karen called us back the following morning. One would assume she would be apologetic for a job incomplete. Boy were we wrong. She called back to let us know we did not pay the $125 service fee. While I was speaking with her to let her know the job was incomplete, she hung up on me during the conversation. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. I called her back and she still remained hostile. As an owner of a service business myself, I am shocked at the level of Karen's lack of respect and empathy towards this situation. Even with the job still remains incomplete, I agreed to pay the $125 Service Fee, which I did, but let her know in return, I would be posting this message to warn others to avoid A-One at all costs. Regards, Mohib
Description of Work: Electrician left the job. Never came back. Karen, the owner, was extremely unprofessional and rude. The job still remains incomplete.

I understand you are upset but the details are incorrect. I believe [member name removed], the father, wrote the review but I was actually hired by [member name removed], the son but since both seemed to be involved I am writing this to both. When you first asked us to come out you wanted a network wire run from one jack to another and wanted us to splice it in. You also wanted just a simple phone jack because you were hiring a new employee and were trying to set up a new desk. I explained that since you already had a modem that you needed to get with Time Warner and set up a wifi connection or increase you strength of your signal you currently had so the new computer would work. I also told you I am not a network genius. You also wanted us there right away and said you were calling several electricians and the one you could get there first would do the work. I said to find someone else because I couldn't get there for about a week. You later called me back and set a date. When I called to set a time to come do the work I was told by the father that I was just installing a phone jack so when we went to the job we brought supplies to install "1" phone jack. We are electricians, not AT&T or Time Warner. When Jason arrived he went inside with no tools on, to see what was needed to do the job. He was shown the area they wanted the work done. Jason was told that they wanted a dual phone jack and a network cable installed. This was more than just a phone jack. Jason looked up in the attic and around to see how to run the wires. He then called me and asked what to do. I told him that we would have to get the dual jack and that we could run the network jack but I'd have to check on splicing the network together. After being there for an hour according to my GPS tracker, Jason left but he couldn't have messed much up since he didn't do much except listen to what you wanted, look in the attic and scope out the best way to run the wires since everything was on an outside wall. Also, every time Jason went into the building he either took off his shoes or wore shoe covers. If he cared that much about your floors why would he mess up the rest of the office? After Jason left I found out that we had to have a router of some sort to make the new computer work. I tried calling one of the numbers given me and I had Jason call several times to explain what was needed to make it work and to explain that it was late and since you lived way down by City lake and with the traffic so bad, we couldn't make it back there by quitting time and that we'd be there the next day. I know you said we didn't call but I have proof on my phone that we tried several times that day and the next morning to get ahold of you. The next morning you finally returned my call as if I hadn’t called. I explained that I had tried to call several times and the I explained to [member name removed] what I found out about the networking and that I could only install the phone jack if you just wanted the wires spliced for the network. Again I said you needed to call Time Warner. Has said to come install the outlet. 1/2 hr later you called and cancelled and said you got someone else who could do both and they would be there the following week. I told you that since you told us to do the job twice and that we were out there once already that there would be a service call fee. You were also told this by Jason and that we would send you an invoice by email. 2 days later you received the email. While talking with [member name removed], the son, there was some aggravation but no yelling. When the father got the invoice he got mad. We talked and I tried to explain. Before I could say much the father started raising his voice because he was mad that he had to pay a service call fee. He yelled so much that even after asking him to lower his voice he kept yelling so I hung up. I waited a few minutes in hopes that he would calm down and I called him back. I hope this isn’t because I am a women since he did not treat Jason this way. When I called him back I explained why I hung up, which made him mad. He raised his voice again but he let me explain, however while I was explaining he hung up. I tried calling back but the next thing I knew I got an email stating that he would pay the fee but that he was going to write bad things about me everywhere he could. I don’t understand why someone would try to slander someone just because he doesn’t like the bill. Also, If you don’t think you owe the bill, why did you pay it? Since you’re a business owner you would think that you wouldn't be the type that treated people so rudely, yelling and not allowing me to talk. You should also understand that time is money and that driving for 2 hours for a job and then not getting to do it at the last minute costs money. You should also understand that most people can see through lies such as the ones state here. I will also never do any business with your company, Millennium Travel and Tours, again.

My realtor recommended Karen, and I'm glad that she did. Karen finished the job quickly, and I've had no related problems since then. While she was on the job, she was friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to answer all my questions. She's going to be the first person I think of when I need to hire an electrician again.

I think Karen is one of the best electricians I have ever met. She saved me money and time by guiding my contractor on how to test something electrical in the house. She spent a lot of time at both houses to make sure everything was in proper working order, which is what a new home buyer wants . Karen is professional and laid back. I've had her work on my own house a couple of years back and she diagnosed a pinched wire in the wall that kept a light from turning on. No one else could figure this out.
Description of Work: I used Karen of A-One Electric twice in the last two months because I'm putting two houses on the market. For the first house, I had Karen check an electrical plug that wasn't working and she replaced a breaker in the electrical box. She diagnosed that one outlet which looked like a 110 outlet was actually a 220 outlet.--This made complete sense because the house was built in the 1969's and the 220 plug was used for a window A/C. For the second house, I had her replace a plug with a short in it and had her inspect the attic wiring to make certain it was in good shape. (You can walk into the attic.)

Overall, the process was very smooth and quick. During the initial quote phase, Karen gave us several scenarios and what each would cost. It wasn't just "let me come and see". We went with her because it was obvious that she really knew her stuff and was ready to get started. The only "hold up" in the process was due to the city taking up to 3 days to turn off service to allow work to be done. When she was waiting on the city, she was at our house doing preliminary steps to get ahead. She was constantly following up with the city to check status and also kept us informed every step of the way. So we played the waiting game here and there but when Karen was allowed, she was ready to work. We asked her a ton of questions about the work she was currently doing and work we could do ourselves to update other aspects of the electrical system. She was always willing to give us advice and helpful insight with every question. She would also describe instances where things went wrong and how we could prevent problems from causing major damage. She was very quick in replying to texts, calls, or emails. All said and done, we didn't just get work done by an electrician, we have found our electrician! We highly recommend Karen at A One Electric for your electric needs.

I have waited a long time to write this review primarily because I gave this woman the benefit of the doubt. I came back to read the reviews again to see if maybe I was being harsh at the time and see if I should give Karen another chance, but what I see is more negative reviews and rambling excuse responses from Karen that have very a similar smell and flavor to my experience so I am now writing this long overdue review. Karen I am not going to bother reading your response and your responses to date make you look far worse than the negative reviews. First I provided the home inspection directly to Karen and it specifically outlined that the hous had no ground. The inspection was provided before Karen arrived to the home that I was putting a bid in on, I ultimately purchased the property. Karen supposedly did a separate electrical inspection and said all looked fine other than what had already been noted on the regular home inspection. After closing on the home I had time to look at Karen's bid and I noticed that the ground installation had not been included. Karen admitted that she had not noticed that there was no ground and that was why it was not included. I am okay with mistakes, but the problem was zero apology for missing the ground, followed immediately by a demand for payment for the electrical inspection. Personally I would have thought she would be so embarrassed by missing an item in a bid that she had been pre-notified of in a supplied home inspection report and during her alleged electrical inspection of the home that I thought she would have dropped it all together, but alas I give people too much credit. By the way the ground installation doubled the bid. Next she told me I would probably need to remind her of the appointment to do the bid work????..I pause here to let that sink in, she asked me to remind her of the appointment to complete the bid work. Amazingly though she had no problem remembering to follow-up on the inspection fee. I was so appalled by her brazen arrogance that I blew her off, but she continued to ask for payment for the inspection so in the end I finally had to suck it up and deal with her to get her to stop contacting me. In the meantime I looked at the bid again and she wanted $16 per socket change. Let me break this down for everyone, I have basic experience on job sites from following my dad around when I was kid. After the first couple of outlets, that cost 50 cents each (yes 1/2 a dollar) in a builders pack from Lowes, I was doing the outlets myself in about 4 minutes from start to finish. Talking to a contractor friend, he told me he does them in about 2 minutes from start to finish and that any experienced electrician or contractor can do it about the same speed and he freaked at the bid, unfortunately he does not live near or I would just have him do the work. So at my speed at replacing the outlets that is $240 an hour, or for some perspective, Karen charges more than my attorney per billable hour; which frankly, I think sums it up. Mind blowing, zero embarrassment about asking me to remind her about the appointment or missing that there was no ground on the house. I figured why bother cancelling the appointment if I need to remind her, but she actually remembered it, I guess it was a slow week. I did cancel at that point. When I talked to my roommate who was at the house when she did "the electrical inspection" he said she took off maybe three switch plates and called it done. She missed the buzzing switches in the garage and in the living room. He knew I would blow a gasket and with not seeing her penciled on the calendar he figured I had realized she was useless so there was no point in giving me more reasons to be upset. Did I bother spelling out why I cancelled to Karen, no. I figure if she is so arrogant to ask the paying customer to remind her of an appointment, so incompetent to miss no ground that she was pre-notified of, so oblivious to not apologize for missing no ground, and so dishonest to check three outlets and call it an electrical inspection and charge a $100 that talking to the wall would be more productive and less frustrating. Yes, I did pay her for the inspection in order to cut ties. Sad really, I gave her a break thinking I was probably just super stressed during the home purchase and move only to find I could have saved someone else the headache and hassle, sorry fellow Angie's List members for not leaving this review sooner.

I know you do not want a response from me but I feel everyone should get to say what they feel as you have done. When I do an inspection I try not to go by what is on the other inspectors report. I will read it but then I will look around and see what I can see. I feel you already have one report why should I just duplicate it. When I got there I met your very nice realtor Laurie from Give Realty. We talked about what you where wanting to do and what you already new about the house. We walked around and she pointed out areas that you had the most concerns. As I walked through the house I saw things that were not on the report such as a porch outlet that was exposed to the elements. Because I was concerned that something might happen if it rained on it or someone stuck their finger in it, I tried to fix it without getting too involved but to at least make it safe and protected from the elements. Before your roommate showed up I had walked the whole house and talked to Laurie for at least 20 minutes. I understand that when he showed up he may have only seen me do a few things but I assure you it was much more than taking off a few cover plates that was done or else I wouldn't have been able to give you the estimate I gave you. Now I have admitted to you numerous times that I missed putting in my estimate the grounding of the breaker box with an extra ground. I know over several weeks we talked/emailed each other numerous times and I am not the type of person that would just blow off something like that and not say I am sorry for missing it. I am human and do miss things occasionally. I am also really sorry I missed the 2 dimmers buzzing in the living room. It's not like they were not working, they were buzzing so you say. I didn't hear them buzzing because of the constant buzzing I have in my ears from Tinnitus. Again I am sorry but I do not know why you would let something like this build up so much when you had plenty of opportunities to talk it out with me. I am really easy to talk to and always try to accommodate people. Again, I am sorry for not getting it on the report but I assure you that the grounding of the main panel would not double a bid of $1245. Depending on how rocky your area is, installation of a ground rod can cost $150 and up. While I was doing your inspection I notice that a majority of your receptacles where bad. This was not in your original inspection report from your house inspector. I made note of this on my inspection and said that if you would like me to change them out then it would cost $16 a piece. This includes repairing of the wire, pig-tailing the wires if needed, replacing the plate and plug and cleaning up my mess. I know people who charge more for doing these but for a master electrician, this is below the average cost. I understand that you can do a plug in 4 minutes but you also have to understand that having an electrician do it comes with a warranty and a license and 30 years experience. I understand it doesn't require all that to change a plug but it also doesn't take a lawyer with a law degree to write a letter to someone saying to pay a bill or we will take you to court, but they do. And they charge a substantial fee for it. I always say, If you don't like the price then don't have me do it. It's very simple. I am not forcing anyone to use me or to have me do everything that I put on an estimate. There must have been something you liked because you actually scheduled me to do some work. I see that you don't like the fact that I asked for you to remind me of the date we scheduled to have the work done. I asked you to remind me simply because I did the inspection during your option period. You usually don't close on a house for 45 days after the offer is accepted and you have a 10 day option period. So if things go well with you getting financing then it will be about 30 days give or take before you can get ownership of the house and actually start working on it. Just because they say you are closing on a certain date doesn't mean it will stay that date. You were telling me at the time that you were stressed out because you were having issues with getting the bank what they wanted and because of this there was no telling when or if you were going to close. So this is why I asked you to call me with a reminder. I do try to keep up with all the work that I get and all the special requests but It is very hard to keep up with something that is 30 days or so in the future. Also, if you were so mad at me about missing the ground rod, why did you hire me to do the work? Now you are mad at me about that. I am sorry this whole ordeal has stressed you out and that I was one of the stressors. It was never my intention and my goal is to try and help people, not make their life miserable. Below I have attached the estimate. Karen Phaup A-One Electric 8406 Horton Trail Austin, TX 78749 497-1513 or 280-3149 fax Estimate 3-1-13 Requested by: Laurie Loew Give Realty 299-6916 laurie@giverealty.com (removed member name) – (removed member info) Services to be rendered at: (removed member info) Services Needed: -There are several areas that need to have junction boxes installed in order to remove the open connections. Install 3 junction boxes and eliminate an unused fan wire -Remove the wire from the outlet and install a new outlet in the garage on the counter -Change out 4 single breakers and install 2 - 220V breakers and separate the neutrals so that there is only one per screw- -Purchase and replace the exhaust vent in the ½ bath downstairs -Replace the outside outlet and cover -Design, and have made, a dead front cover for the breaker box outside to protect from immediate contact with the wiring and connections in the panel -Purchase a replace a dimmer and purchase and replace a dimmer for a rheostat in the upstairs hall -Purchase a replace the heat bulb/vent fixture in upstairs hall bathroom Total from above: $1245.00 -The outlets in the house look like they have ever never been changed out and the few I tested had very loose connections. If you would like them changed out then it would cost $16 each as long as there was no furniture in the way Thank You!

very reasonable. I highly recommend A-One.by my house to do at least some of the things I needed. I was having a hard time finding an electrician until I contact A-One Electric. Karen responded in about 5 minutes to my contact information provided through the A-One website. She asked what I needed done and said that she was going out of town the next day but would see if she could get by later in the day. She called me at work and I met her at my house in the late afternoon. She completed everything that I needed done! Karen is very, very competent and willing to take on just about anything! One of my tasks required a new part which she had on her truck. I can't say enough about good things about Karen at A-One. And, the cost for everything was very reasonable. I highly recommend A-One!

Had to call several times to get scheduled. She did tell me she was finishing up a big job with a local sorority. Once scheduled, she did arrive on agreed upon date and time. Job was done correctly. The only "negative" with this contractor was that I thought cost was on high side considering what needed to be done was simple replacements and nothing "newly installed" AND we were repeat customers. Also, I paid for a "2-man electrician crew"; however, I believe Karen was the only electrician, and her assistant was not a certified (? correct terminology) electrician or apprentice. I commented on price with Karen (after my wife had already paid her). Karen said she thought it was a fair price for the work peformed and even commented that I paid her this rate in the past. I didn't argue as I did not have any evidence of what I paid her before nor what the going rate is for a certified electrician in Austin along with a non-certified assistant. She did offer to refund $45--which I did not take. Anyway, I like Karen a lot and hemmed and hawed about writing this review, but I kept getting reminders from Angie's List to submit my review and I had to be honest about what I feel about the job. Please note that Karen DOES do quality work and we've never had to have her come back due to any errors on her part.

Hi [member name removed], I am confused on how you can write such a negative and positive review at the same time which could possibly bring my rating down. We have worked together hanging these same chandeliers many times over the years and each time we hang them we have to find out what height you want them, take out links of chain, shorten the wire, and find the parts to hang them with. A couple of your chandeliers are bigger then I am height wise and twice the width of me. These are not that simple to hang because of all the adjustments and the need for 2 people to be on 1 ladder just to get them hung. New construction is always easier. With your lights It took 2 people to hang them and what makes you think that my helper is not an apprentice, his age? He has been working with me for almost 2 years. He was a carpenter in the past but is now an electrical apprentice. Besides, I would never put anyone on a job that I didn't think would do a good job. That is why you have kept hiring me I thought. In reference to the scheduling, you told me before you went back to Hawaii that you had bought a house and you needed these things done. I told you to call me when you got back which you did. I told you I have been very busy and that I needed to finish up some jobs because school was getting ready to start and people had to get these things done before then. You told me that was no problem that you were not in a hurry. I tried to keep you informed but maybe I didn't do a good enough job. For that I am sorry. I will make it a point to do better for my future customers. Just remember, I always put emergencies first in front of non emergency jobs. Last but not least, the bill. We worked 4 1/2 hrs. I did not charge a trip charge or the $165 / hr that most companies do. I showed up when I said I would when a lot of the companies these days don't and whether or not you thought my helper was licensed should not make a difference. When I go to the doctor and only get to see a nurse practitioner, I get charged the same. As long as the job is done properly it shouldn't matter. In reference to being a long time customer, this is true and I thank you for all the business. This doesn't mean that I am worth less just because I have known you for a while. You don't charge your long term patients less do you? I didn't get a break when I saw you professionally either even though I have known you for a long time. I wouldn't expect to pay less either. Business is business and we all have bills to pay. I am sorry that you feel ripped off. That's the last thing I would want to do. I really have enjoyed getting to know you and think your family is great. I wish you all the best and hope your and your family get settled back into Austin quickly. If I can help you in any way please feel free to call. I hope there are no hard feelings. Sincerely Karen

I called Karen the Thursday prior to her coming by to see if she was available. I explained my issue and she told me that she was really busy, but gave me a couple of things that I could try myself to see if I could fix it on my own. Before I could call her back the next week to tell her that I was unsuccessful she called me to see how it went and if I was available she would come by and check it out. She was there in 20 minutes checked it out told me what the problem was and what my options are. When I asked what I owed her she said that she was in the neighborhood and since I was in the same situation as when she came I didn't owe her anything. It's nice to know that there are still honest professionals in the trades. I cant remember ever having someone call me back to follow-up, then come by and not charge me. She's done work for us in the past and has always done top notch work. She doesn't cut corners and always does a great job. Honest, caring, professional and fair are descriptions of Karen and her business.

Hi [removed member name], I'm so glad you were able to get it fixed and not have to go broke doing it. I know that I get into situations that I wish someone would just give me suggestions to help me out and I am always grateful for the advise. I figure if some helps me out, I should return the favor and if we all would just give a little then the world would be a happier place. I am here if you ever need me. Thank you for calling me to begin with and thank you for such a nice review. Have a great rest of the summer. Karen

Karen did a remarkable job as usual. It was easy to talk to her and to set up a convenient time for her to come over. I told her about the extreme weight of this new light fixture and she brought an appropriate bracket and mounted it to the ceiling beams. She showed me what she was doing to reassure me that the lights will not fall on us. The new lights look beautiful. Karen also easily removed the broken light bulb from our hall ceiling light that I couldn't remove.. Two years ago when every day was at least 100 degrees, Karen installed the wiring for our new swimming pool as well as added outlets to our deck. We have had no problems with them. We also had her look at our old chandelier that was made in Czechoslovakia. Other electricians said that they could not find the parts that they needed to fix it due its age and where it was made. The sockets where some of the lights screwed in were broken. Karen asked if she could take it home to work on it and we gladly let her. A week later, she brought it over and it looked brand new. It was all polished and all of the lights worked. She said that she contacted antique stores and was able to cheaply purchase the needed sockets. Karen even gave us 2 extra sockets if we ever need them. She only charged 50 dollars. We were thrilled! We thought that it could never be fixed. We recommend Karen to anyone that needs an electrician. She is personable, knowledgeable, efficient and has reasonable rates.
Description of Work: Removed our ceiling light fixture in the kitchen and installed a very heavy new one. Special bracket was needed due to the weight of the fixture. Also, removed a broken bulb that was stuck in a ceiling light in the hall.

Karen and her assistant arrived on time as planned. She performed all this work, shortened a couple of cable cords for me to use in my electronics closet, and did everything in a quick, professional manner. I've worked with her before; so, when I needed to run out and get something, I didn't worry about leaving them working at the house.
Description of Work: Replaced the thermostat, switched 2 light fixtures, fixed the light and fan switch in the master bedroom, installed electric outlets, installed cable outlets and trouble shot the fussy GFCI outlets in my kitchen.

I didn't bother to call Karen back after she gave me such an outrageous bid. When the job had been finished, she called me asking when she was supposed to start. Never use an electrician without getting several bids. A person like Karen could cost you a lot of money! My total job with Karen would have cost over $3,600 when I paid $1,625.
Description of Work: Karen is one of the most unreasonable people I have ever worked with. I needed a separate electrical panel set for a guest house and called Karen for a bid. She came in at $3,185 for PART of the work, while another Master Electrician came in at $1,625 for ALL of the work. When I didn't award the job to her, she became irate and verbally abusive over the phone and in text messages. She even had the nerve to send me a bill for a service call, when I simply had her bid a job. She could never tell me why I should have paid over twice the amount of money to have her do PART of the job! Look in her response for a legitimate reason of why she should be paid twice as much for identical work. Also, look at her negative reviews. They involve more complex jobs that left customers with similar complaints. Bottom line, if you need a light bulb changed and don't care how much it costs, Karen is your girl. If you are considering using Karen for your electrical job, call several electrical professionals and seek competitive bids for your job.

It seems that there was a misunderstanding. I talked to your partner on the phone many times giving advice and explaining how to do things. He finally had me go to Spicewood Texas to look at the service you needed because Pedernales Electric told you that you had to install another service and it needed to be done now. I went out there and you and your partner told me about getting a rock saw and where and how you needed to move things out of the way. I was also given a date on when it should be completed. You wanted to get it done within the time limit that the electric company gave you so I gave you my card to give to them in case something happened so you could show that it was going to be taken care of by a licensed electrician. I then sent you an estimate and your partner and I talked on the phone about it. I was told that the price was what he expected and set the date to get it done again. In another conversation your partner started talking about having someone dig the trench and I said that was fine that we could work together. We never talked about a change in price after that because he needed to talk to the other guy and get back to me to confirm but that he would probably dig the trench. At that point I said to let me know when the trench was dug and we could go out there and build the service. I never heard from anyone by the week we had originally set up and I had been sick so the next week I called to see what was up. I wasn't really able to talk much since I was hoarse. This is when I was told that I was never hired and how high my estimate was and other rude things. I mentioned that I had already bought the materials and that I wouldn't have done that if I hadn't been told to do the job. I don't mind someone else doing a job but I would appreciate the courtesy of cancelling with me instead of letting me buy the supplies and leaving me hanging. I felt that the drive to Spicewood Texas for your bid, the time on the phone giving you advice, and the failure to cancel or inform me of the change in job status warrants a bill of some kind since I had spent at least 8 hours of my time dealing with your job not to mention the threat of taking me to court and charging me lawyers’ fees if I didn't take back my invoice for $125. In reference to me costing twice as much as the other person, I don't know what size service he put in or if he was even licensed but my cost included parts for an overhead service, trenching through rock, running pipe and wire from one house to another, disconnecting the illegal power and wire you had powering up the other house and hooking up the new power. It also included the travel time for 3 people to travel about 2 hours just to get to and from Spicewood Texas. I am glad you were able to get someone cheaper and I am sorry that you have so much anger over this issue that you feel you needed to try to ruin someone’s reputation. I never claimed to be the cheapest person but I am not usually the highest either. I have been doing this work for about 30 years and I have seen people do work for almost free just to get the job and the quality of work leaves little to be desired. I can only guarantee that my work is quality work that I stand behind as people who actually use me attest to. Those people’s jobs include such things as hundreds of service upgrades along with kitchen and bathroom remodels, and repairs, not just small jobs. I couldn’t have stayed in business this long just changing light bulb. As people say, “You Get What You Pay For”.

Karen came out and she really knows her stuff. She had to pull off my panel and check all the switches. She was very systematic and got to the root of the problem. She was first-class and I would recommend her to anyone who has electrical needs.

Merry Christmas. Thank you for a great review, I'm really glad you got it out. I believe that someone who is willing and able to do simple things shouldn't have to pay for something that simple. We should all be willing to teach and learn from others to make life easier. Have a great New Year and I'm hear if you ever need me again. Thanks for calling and trusting in me to help. Karen was great and I will definately use her again if I need an electrician!
Description of Work: I called several electricians and Karen was the only one who called me back promptly. Two of the other electricians did not call me back for a few days. One said my job was too small for them to be interested in doing the work for me. She gave me a rough estimate over the phone that sounded reasonable. She squeezed me into the schedule the very next day at four pm. She was on time and very professional. She installed three ceiling fans quickly and efficently and even replaced one of the ceiling fans junction box, as the one that was there was not the right one for the spot. She came prepared with everything she needed, even for the unexpected repair on the fan box in the ceiling. She had a great sense of humor and easy to deal with. Her price was fair and she did a great job. I will absolutely use her again. I have shared her name with two friends and would feel confident in giving her name to a client that needed electrical work on their home.

Hi Member, I hope your fans are stilling working out for you. Thank you for the great recommendation. The appreciation for the work I do is a big plus in the job. The biggest thrill I get from doing electrical work is seeing the joy on peoples face when they finally get what they want. Thank you for all that and I hope you had a Merry Christmas. Karen

Kitchen lights started flickering Saturday night, then power in the kitchen went out altogether along with power in the backyard and in the garage on that same side of the house. Austin Energy came out on Sunday and found that power was coming into the house ok and told me that an electrician should be called. Karen returned my call first thing Monday morning and said that she could be here around noon. At exactly 12 noon she showed up with her assistant and they painstakingly tracked down the problem (eventually traced to loose wiring in a wall switch that was not even that close to the kitchen) and repaired it. They worked quickly and efficiently and they were both a pleasure to be around. Karen even stuck around after the job was completed to answer all my questions about the general safety of the wiring in my house. Karen was apologetic about the cost of the repair since it did take them well over two hours to go through all the places where the bad wiring might've been found, but I actually thought the cost was quite fair. She will most definitely get all of my electrical business from now on. Once again a company more than lived up to all of their excellent reviews. I'm a very satisfied customer.
Description of Work: Restored electrical power to one side of the house. Checked junction boxes and tightened up some loose wiring.

Hello Member. I hope you had a Merry Christmas and I'm sorry for such a late response, I've been pretty busy. I do want to thank you for a great review no matter how long it takes me. I think it's important to let people know how they feel. It was a pleasure working with you especially since you were patient with us. You have many junction boxes in your house that we wanted to make sure they were safe and that takes time. I hope all is well and stays that way :) I hope you have a safe a happy New Year. This is the second job I've had Karen do and both have been stellar, hence writing a review. This was for running a new circuit (requiring access to the tiny attic of doom and the crawl space of ick - places I hate to go) to my garage, installing a dusk/dawn light and a new outlet and switch. When Karen came to see the light I bought she advised against it as it was a kind that would run hot and the bulbs tend to burn fast. I really appreciated the advice. She offered to get one for me. She did and it was very similar but better. The install was smooth and everything looks and works great. Everything was cleaned up after as well. Plus they did a great job positioning the light so as to not blind the neighbors. I've also had Karen rewire a very poorly installed dryer plug, that too was awesome (and she also fixed a mistake made by the first electrician I hired for some work). Overall I've been really impressed with Karen's work. She's really nice, personable and professional. I'm so glad a friend told me about her!

With all the good ratings Karen received on Angie's, we decided to give her a call. We were in need of an electrician to rewire our less than 1600 sq ft 1950s house in order to get it up to code and safe. We called and spoke to Karen at length to discuss our needs.Explained that all the sheetrock would be removed from all walls, allowing for easy access for the work to be done. Right away she gave us her ballpark of $17K, but said to email her a drawing with what work we would need done and the rough placement of any outlets/switches... Karen emailed back 2 days later with her bid of $20K! She mentioned it would be a little more expensive because of some things the City would require (hardwired smoke detectors, each appliance required it's own circuit...). All this without even looking at the house. I have since called SEVERAL other MASTER electricians who have come onsite to inspect the property and provided much more extensive estimates, all of which were not over $10K. I felt Karen was more concerned with providing me a general contractor's contact info than she was with doing the work. I was very disappointed in the exchanges I had with Karen and would expect a professional to inform me if she was unwilling/unable to do the scope of worked we discussed. I'm sure Karen will provide some excuse as she has with many other reviews, but feel it is unfortunate that she has such great ratings and would feel it is acceptable to provide such bad customer service.

I'm sorry you think so little of someone who explained to you that I was very busy and didn't have much time at that point. I at least spent a long time on the phone explaining the process of rewiring, working with the City of Austin, and pulling permits. I did call you back but instead of you returning my call, you decided to take your frustrations out by trying to damage someones reputation. I waited for your call but since I did not receive one and I was busy, I assumed you were just price shopping. Also, according to your hand scratched drawing, I came up with a price of $20K to rewire your entire house which is what you said you wanted. I'm sorry my price was different than other people. It happens. It doesn't make me a bad company, it's just an estimate. I have good ratings because I do everything I can to help people and because I am human, I obviously can't. Also, when I perform the work, it is safe and up to code. Not everyone can say that. I'm sorry I didn't meet your expectations but in reality, I never did any work for you and you were the one that never returned my call,so, why are you so mad? Karen Karen

As always, Karen came to my rescue. She has done great work for for me in the past at a rental house. I always planned to write a review because her work was so excellent but I never seemed to get here. This time I swore I was going to do the right thing. Karen has always responded quickly to my calls and given me good service. She is bright, talented, funny and extremely professional. This job was a true booger-bear that had her climbing all over house, attic and yard trying to track down what needed to be done. It took hours in sweltering heat but she kept on plugging until she had the job done. I know I probably would have paid far more to another company for the amount and quality of work she did. Karen will always be the first one I will call for my electrical work and the first one I recommend to my family and friends.
Description of Work: I called Karen to do the electrical work advisede in a house inspection I had done. It included capping electrical wires, installing boxes in the attic, GIF outlets in several rooms and outside, undoing crazy electrical work done by previous owner, etc.
