1st Choice Energy

Do NOT hire 1st Choice Energy. They improperly designed and installed an HVAC system at my house that caused thousands of dollars in water damage including mold. The owner has denied all responsibility and his insurance doesn’t even cover mold claims. Now I am having to sue him since he doesn’t have proper insurance and he won’t pay for the damages. Do not hire an HVAC contractor unless they have mold coverage in their insurance.

Prompt response, energy audit completed within time specified, and report available that evening.

I called to ask about insulation for my attic and he said they used fiberglass. I asked why they used fiberglass over cellulose and he said that it was cheaper and cellulose caught on fire and had pests. It is confusing enough trying to learn about insulation without having people lie to you. He admitted he was lying about the fire hazards and pests but then told me another lie about health hazards. The cost quote I had on cellulose was much less than a fiberglass quote so I believe his cost statement may have been a lie also. His price was in the ball-park as another fiberglass quote I had received. I have not decided if I will use fiberglass or cellulose but I know I will not do business with this company after he flat out lied to me.

Not sure how we can ever say enough good things about David and his crew at 1st Choice. We highly recommend them :) We live in an older home that needed a new a/c & also wanted to take advantage of the rebates being offered by the City of Austin for doing the home energy performance package. We originally hired another company that had a lower bid - big mistake - you get what you pay for!! It took that company almost 6 months coming out at least 2-3x a month to work on our house & could never get below 40% leakage. David and his crew came in to clean up the mess and got us below 10% leakage in 1 day - AMAZING! They are informative, efficient and best of all David really knows what he's doing and has a great relationship with the folks at Austin Energy which is extremely important if you're thinking about applying for rebates.

I can do the in-house work myself without going to the attic. This will avoid contractors costs.
