I decided to go with them because they were the cheapest I could find. They were super reliable, had good customer service and great employees. Everyone was really friendly and professional.

80 percent of it was good. 20 percent of it I didn't care for was scheduling, you had to work around their schedule and not your own.

From our first contact with the sales representative, every aspect of our move was handled very professionally. They delivered one unit to our home prior to our putting our home on the market so we could "declutter" the home. That unit was put in storage in their local warehouse for several months until we sold our home. During that time, we needed to access the unit to add more items. All they required was 48 hour notice for them to retrieve the unit from the storage warehouse and place it in an easily-accessible location at the warehouse and there was no fee for this service. This was very helpful! When we sold our home, they delivered a second unit for the rest of our items. They then delivered the two units to our new location, about 1300 miles away. We placed the two units in storage for 2-3 months in the new location while our new home was being finished. Again, we needed to access the units to remove a few items and, again, this was no problem for them. When we opened the two units, we found that, as promised, the items had not shifted and everything was in good shape. (Of course, we had tied down the items quite well.) When we were ready, the two pods were delivered to our new home. Every part of the move went well and we felt that the price was fair. (They even loaned us 20 high-quality blankets with each unit.) This is a particularly good method if you need to store your belongings for a longer period of time. Kudos to 1-800 Pack Rat! I would definitely recommend them to my friends.

An unauthorized payment was charged to my credit card December 14th, 10 days before it was due. I was charged again on December 22nd. They were only supposed to charge me once. They refunded the money after I complained to the BBB. I had made a payment the previous month but I did not authorize any automatic billing. When I called to ask about the billing issue and they sent me an e-mail with a phone number to call. When I called the phone number in the e-mail, I was advised to call another number. When I called the 2nd number, it was an answering machine. I was just getting the run around and it hindered my Christmas shopping abilities. I made the complaint to the BBB on December 28th and someone finally contacted me via e-mail about the charges. The complaint was closed January 16th after they issued the refund. I also was advised that I would be provided with boxes for my move and they showed up without them. So at the last minute I had to go out and purchase boxes. The actual move from Houston to Raleigh went ok.

I moved out of the country for a couple of years in November 2010. I called several storage places in Austin and Jeff Slanker at 1800PackRat gave me the best deal for the service offered (climate controlled, drop-off and haul-away so no rental truck needed), on top of good reviews I'd read. They dropped the container off in front of my house at the specified time. The container was clean and water tight - we had a huge rainstorm while it was parked in front of my house. I loaded up my belongings, making sure things were packed level and left the country, hoping it was hauled off on time. My brother drove by to check and they had it off the street a couple of hours after they said it would be gone. I have since been into the container three times to put in or take out items. Each time they bring the container out into the parking lot for me to access when it's convenient for me. The container has a padlock on it, only I have the key. Twice it was waiting for me as planned, the third time the warehouse guys hadn't gotten the memo but they pulled it out for me while I waited. It was pretty fast considering the amount of containers they're dealing with. All of my belongings appear in good shape, no leaks or other issues. Automatic monthly billing removes another headache. I'm happy with the service. Tip: make a label with your name on it and put it on the container door. If there is more than one container in the parking lot and they have similar padlocks, you'll have to try them all.

The price shown is per month, per container. It went wonderfully! The people that answer the phone are pleasant and are very helpful. Bob who was the delivery driver, was really pleasant and professional. Gary who is the warehouse manager, went out of his way to schedule the second pick up of the container when they were already booked for that week. They are some of the most pleasant people I have ever worked with. They had the best prices around!
