Description of Work: complete refaced kitchen cabinets, replaced doors, recessed refrigerator back 8inches. This company was out of Joshua,Tx when I used them. I want to make sure this rating is for the same people! The owners first name was J C |And if you will call me I will pull my invoice and give specific address and telephone #'s. I just want to make sure we are on the same page with this company because they solicited me previously to pay my fees for Angie's list if I would send in a rating for them! I avoided their request since I knew my rating would be poor!! I would give them an F; but, I could Only go buy the Good references they presented.

They were good. We spent a few thousand dollars on their services. It was a good experience because they did it within our budget and pretty much what we wanted. They were flexible. We tried to call them to do another job but they never called us back. We would use them again if they called us back.
Description of Work: We used Unique Construction Concepts for doing a couple of different projects for us. They installed cabinetry in our kitchen and a couple of other things around the house.

I love my kitchen. Unique Construction Concepts did a fabulous job. There are some aspects of them that were just fabulous. JC Hill is extremely talented. My one and only negative feed about him is he might tend to forget some things sometimes. I get to the point where I was never home because he has complete access to my house, I had to leave notes in the kitchen" we need to do this, when are we doing this? When is this coming up?" The biggest thing I better say is, we had been without our washing machine for 3 or 4 days because we were doing the floors. The washing machine got put back on Thursday afternoon and we were leaving Friday morning to go to my son's out of town wedding so I had a lot of laundry to do before the wedding. I had to get all these laundry done Thursday night, this was the night when the tornado is hitting North Texas, one of the guys who installed the washing machine reversed the water line, he put the hot water on the cold and the cold on hot. My husband has some disability so there is no way to change it out, I had no clue to change it out so I called JC. He lives 45 minutes away from me at good time and I called him. He drove the 45 minutes on a good day, it's probably more like an hour and a half to get to my house to change out the water line so that I can get my laundry done.
Description of Work: They remodeled my entire kitchen. They gutted it, we moved walls and we moved electricity.

Our kitchen flooded under the cabinets and under the linoleum floor in December 2012. Insurance paid for remodel, within limits, and provided us with a very detailed estimate. I contacted three companies for estimates, and Unique Construction Concepts came back with the most reasonable one. They offered an Angie's List discount, which was nice. My husband and I did most of the demolition, removing half of the cabinetry and countertops, the dishwasher (which had caused the flooding), and all of the linoleum floor. Signed the contract 3/7/13. Work began Monday 3/26/13 with cabinet installation. The cabinet installers (Pancho and Miguel) were great. They arrived promptly at 8am, and were done by 8:40. Several lower units arrived without backs, which I thought very odd. Some had backs, and some didn't, and I was told that was just they way they usually did things, putting backs only on the sections that held the sink and adjacent cabinetry. When I expressed my displeasure, JC brought plywood. They cut it and stained it here and installed backs. Tuesday and Wednesday (3/27-28), Cane (who seemed quite experienced, in spite of his young age) and Josh (who was admittedly very inexperienced, and learning on the job) came and installed the countertops and edging. They installed the countertops using water-based glue, which didn't work very well. In spite of leaving heavy tools and bricks on the counters for days, spots continued to bulge up. This was the first time they had used it, and they hoped it would work well and decrease the strong odor that comes with using oil-based glue. They put the sink in and hooked up the dishwasher, stove, washer and dryer. They were supposed to return Friday, 3/29, when the floor tile was supposed to arrive, but the tile store ran into a delay in delivery. In the meantime, we discovered that the water taps were not turned on. When we fixed that, we found that the hot and cold water faucets were switched on the sink and on the clothes washer. Also, the dishwasher drain hose was improperly installed, causing it to not drain properly. My husband and I fixed all of that. Cane and Josh worked Tuesday 4/2 thru Friday 4/5 on installing the tile floor and finishing up the countertops. Cane came back on Saturday 4/6 to touch up and clean up. They left lots of trash loose in our trash and recycling carts, left my mop and bucket a mess, ruined one of my good dish towels, left several spots of dripped grout drying on the tiles, and left the garage (their main work area) a mess, in spite if mopping it. They also left a layer of silt/grime in the bottom of my new SS sink that was nearly impossible to get off. Cane came back again Friday, 4/12, but forgot his tools. Came back Friday, 4/19, to re-do the countertop trim by the fridge (which was installed rather crookedly by Josh), get rid of some bulges in the countertop, and fix up some caulking along the backsplashes. He didn't do a very good job and rushed out, so I called JC. JC came by later that day and re-did the caulking. I paid JC the final installment of the bill at that time. JC said he would come back the next week and install a transition between the carpet and the kitchen tile, but he must have forgotten because I never heard from him again. It wasn't in the contract, so I didn't push it, and don't really mind. JC and crew did some things that went above and beyond. When he as about to haul away all of the demolition debris we had piled on our back porch, I asked him if he would also take away an old dog house we had back there. He agreed, and I didn't realize he would take the time to break it down first, and that it was much more of a job than I thought it would be. He also hauled off the large bundle of extra insulation we had leftover. Also, JC said that he didn't realize the countertops we picked out were "premium" quality, and they cost much more than he anticipated. He did not, however, charge us any extra. I was also impressed with the beautiful countertop edging they installed. It is rounded wood and stained to match the cabinetry. I gave them a C on punctuality because they often arrived late in the morning. Only the cabinet installers arrived early (8am). I really expected Cane and Josh to follow suit. The late start meant they were here until late in the evening. Since we were without a kitchen, we ate out a lot, and often had to push them out of the door so that we could leave. I gave them a C on professionalism because of the way they were lackadaisical about their hours, used one of my good towels without permission (and never told me) to wipe up black caulk (and yet asked me every time they wanted to use some paper towels), and often left the area a mess at the end of the day. They used my things on a regular basis, instead of providing their own bucket, mop, shop towels, etc. The As on price and quality is because we got a lot of good quality for the price we paid. The A on responsiveness is due to JC being easy to contact and taking care of whatever we needed. He also got back to me quickly when I contacted him by email from Angie's List. All in all, the kitchen came out beautifully. We still have to seal the tile, as Cane assured me that this did not need to be done, but JC affirmed my thought that it should be done, but left it up to us. I have since been told by others that this must be done to prevent staining. All of the problems we had were pretty petty, and were balanced by the positive things, and the fact that we have a beautiful kitchen that is much more useful to us, thanks to the wonderfully designed cabinetry and the sturdy tile floor.

Got a call stating that the job would begin Monday march 25th. Contract labor with JC Hill showed up at 7:30 like they said. No one had a copy of the perposal/contract with them. Mr. Hill told the workers what to do. Just a few hours into the job the workers were coming to me asking what they should do about various items. I asked them what Mr. Hill told them to do, they said he didn't! So I asked them to call him. Then when the plumber showed up to move the shower valve he didn't know what to do either. I had to tell them to call Mr. Hill. This ended day one. On day two My husband took off work for the marble crew to install the shower walls and floor. It was installed but installed wrong. The front end of the shower floor was wider then the back, when we asked why the installer said he squared it with the floor instead of the walls!! My husband was there the entire time, they never asked him if they could cut the flooring to square it up. It was vinyal plank it could have been cut with a utility knife. We called Mr. Hill and he said he would have them come back it toll two days. In the mean time the drywall guys came back to get the bathroom prep work dont inoder to be painted. My husband and I were both working(Mr. Hill the General Contractor, had not been on the job site to see the work since day one)our daughter and elderly parents were there, this was day three. During work I got a call from the glass installers about what they were going to put in our bathroom. I told him we had on our contract(which he didn't have a copy of either or had not spoken to JC Hill about) for a 36" glass wall with enduro glass and a 24" door with enduro glass. He said he would be out to our house to measure. He showed up when only my eldery father and 18 year old daughter was there. He called me and said it would be ordered. The drywall people got finished on Friday the 29. I got home from work and the man was cleaning up. He did a horrible job. I called JC Hill and let him know he said he would be by to look at it and reasurred me it would be fixed. Monday April 1, he came by and picked up the construction trash. Never went in the house to look or even called. On the 2nd the shower enclosure was installed. I had my daughter send me a pic of it, It was sliding shower doors, not what was in our contract. I called JC Hill and he said he would get it corrected. He called me back and said the glass guy spoke with and eldery gentleman and he said sliding doors! This made me very upset. NOT one person ever had a copy of the contract or records from JC Hill on what work was supposed to be completed! No one should have been asking my dad or anyone in my house what they were susppose to do, that is what we were paying JC Hill to do. We finally got the correct enclosure installed(after it had to be ordered again) and we had to have drywall people come out two more times before it looked half decent. I ended up painting myself even though it was in the contract for them to so. A job that was quoted to be finished in three days took almost 6 weeks! I do not reccomend this company. I am not satisfied with the job but wanted it to be over, I have elderly parents that live with me and this is why we hired someone to do the work so it would be done in a timely fashion. So much for that!
Description of Work: remove old tub and wall tiles and install cultured marble shower w/grab bars, 2 corner shelves and one standard inset for soap. one 36" Enduro glass wall and one 24" enduro glass door. Remove old sink and counter top and replace with cultured marble top. Using our faucet. Repair wall behind commode and retexture and paint all walls in bathroom. We were told the job would take 3 days.

He was all fine. There was nothing wrong with him, we just had for as much as we were doing we had to set him out and they could not get there, there was nothing wrong with that. My first impression with them was just fine, everybody was verbal, and they said that they had everything in order, but we just said we would like to go in a different direction. They were right one time, whenever we decided and they got in fast. They were professional.

The project was started on the 5th of March and completed on the 16th. J.C. , Wayne and Austin were great and attentive to the project, being here on time and notified me when they were running late. They were professional, work was done efficiently and they cleaned up after each day they were here. I had some concerns over some areas but Wayne was quick to assure me that they would be addressed and finished to my satisfaction. The bathroom now has more storage space than before and I will be able to place a nice cabinet in there of my choosing. The laundry area was enlarged just enough that when I have to replace my washing machine I can place a standard one there. I have a small one that came with the condo and it was a tight fit in the beginning but now I have ample space for the newer styles. Installation of my water heater was done by Kurt and he was great, he even took care of a leak under my kitchen sink, forever grateful-THANKS! The last day the team was here to finish up the small details and complete the remodel the final phase was the clean up of my concrete floors. I was truly amazed that these guys were able to completely return the flooring back to a clean floor., You would never had known they had been here or that there had been a project done. I definitely would recommend this company and I have already discussed more remodeling with J.C. sometime this fall.
Description of Work: Downstairs bathroom/laundry room combo remodeled. Removal of existing vanity and commode, new tile, texture, painting, new water heater. Relocation of electric outlets, light switch and thermostat. I provided vanity, faucet, mirror and lights. All were installed by this company.

This was the 2nd project completed in my home by JC Hill's team. Ceilings in the bedrooms were very "wavy" - Wayne did a great job in hanging the new crown molding. He said it was a challenge, but he worked with it and it looks really nice. The front room had a poorly match joint right over the back door creating an eyesore. Wayne pulled down the entire wall of molding, recut and moved the joint. The eyesore is completely gone. He was very meticulous and clean. I would definitely recommend this company for more projects.

Unique Concepts is not the contractor chosen, but the estimate was fair, and the owner was very professional and had some good ideas. One of the reasons we chose the other one was a closer location to our home in Arlington. However, we would definitely recommend Unique Concepts as a consideration for your remodeling project.

I liked them fine; the person I worked with is a very creative guy who had a lot of good ideas. He is very talented as far as his handiwork.
Description of Work: I used Unique Construction Concepts to add approximately a 1,000 square foot screened-in suite off my upstairs master bedroom.
it took a little longer than estimated and there were some minor problems that were quickly rectified. it cost us a little more than expected. the specific items we wanted were a little higher than we expected, but not a significant amount. labor charges were as stated. they were here when they said the would and worked a full day each day. they cleaned up any mess each day. they hauled off all trash. jc and his crew did all the work except, cutting the countertop and making and installing the new mirror. they did a very good job.
Description of Work: took out old bathtub and suround, toilet, counter top, large double sided mirror, two sinks , plumbing and carpet in master bath. also took out old carpet in master bedroom and two closets. put in new tile in portion of master bath, built a bathtub surround, installed new bathtub, toilet, italian marble top, new double sidded mirror, new sinks and all needed plumbing with new faucets, etc. and new carpet & padding in rest of master bath, bedroom and closets. we had selected all items to be installed prior to the bidding, so the bid was specific on the items we wanted, down to model numbers, sizes and colors.

We knew we wanted our old wallpaper taken off but didn't quite know what to do with the wall after that! When Unique Construction Concepts came to take a first look at our kitchen he immediately started coming up with some ideas for the wall treatment. What I love about this company is we always knew the decision was always ours to make. Our kitchen doesn't look the same and I can't believe in a few days I feel like I'm in a new house! The kitchen turned out awesome and we used all the ideas he presented. I will definitely use them in the future and would recommend them to anyone!

We have been more than pleased with the work done and are looking to use this company again in the near future. J.C. is very easy to talk to, he explains the project in detail and has always given us a fair price. I am a stay at home mom and have always felt very comfortable with them in my house and around my child. Everything that's been done has been of the greatest quality and we have been very pleased.
Description of Work: This is my third time to use this company. Below are the different things we have had done. 1. We had a pipe bust in our garage apartment last winter. J.C. (owner of the company) tore everything out down to the studs. Repaired plumbing, put in sheetrock, flooring, light fixtures, basically built back our garage apartment from scratch. During this process he also had to take down our one garage door which he repaired and he also put up a new 2nd garage door. 2. The second thing we had done was the outside of our house painted. We have a unique wood siding that required every plank to be caulked before it was primed and painted. 3. The third project took place in Dec 2011 and was replacing all the light fixtures in the kitchen including moving the electrical and filling in holes in the sheetrock, adding texture, etc. These projects have varied in cost from $500 to $5,000.

J.C. and his general factotum Doug came to start this huge project the Monday, November 14. I had not completely cleared out both rooms (kitchen and dining room), but they were very gracious and said they would go to another short-term project and come back the following day. It was actually Wednesday when they were able to return, but that was good for the completion of my part (relocating 36 years' of stuff). Because our house was built in 1946, and J.C. did find lead paint in the walls and window sills, the entire area had to be sealed off from the rest of the house, including sealing the hvac vents. He is certified for lead abatement and was careful to fulfill all EPA requirements, which added to my cost, but that's the deal. Doug worked Wednesday through Saturday, ripping out cabinets and interiors of walls, as well as building the closet for the water heater. We had to give up our bathroom window for the placement of the water heater closet and venting. They left the water heater and washer/dryer in place as long as possible for my convenience. J.C.'s plumber, Curt, removed the old water heater and installed the new one in the closet. We were without water for only a few hours. Curt also moved the plumbing for the sink about a foot and relocated the water supply lines for the washer a couple of feet. That may not sound like much, but the man spent hours in the crawlspace under the kitchen floor. In spite of a few issues with the old galvanized pipe, he was able to complete all the work in a day, working until at least 7 p.m. that evening. J.C. and his electrician, Mark, repaired or replaced wiring as needed and installed lights and relocated a switch that had been in the wall that was removed. J.C. was very creative in designing my laundry closet for my stacked front-loading washer and dryer. In order for my exterior door to open to at least 90 degrees, but still install a full-sized door in the closet, the closet has a sort of bump-out for the door (see the photo), and an access panel in the sidewall of the closet for maintenance purposes. Once all the reconfiguration work was done, drywall hung and the new window in place, J.C. and Doug took a break for the Ikea cabinet installers to do their deal. Then, Doug returned, painted and installed the new flooring, and Curt came and installed the new gas range and J.C. installed the fridge. After countertops were installed (by another provider), Curt returned and installed dishwasher, sink and faucet, water purifier with faucet, and hooked up the icemaker. Doug installed a glass tile backsplash, and J.C. and his son came the next day and grouted it (12/23, I think). This week, J.C. came back and installed the new range hood, replaced a bad light switch, cleaned up odds and ends and hauled off all the construction debris. With the holidays, I spent about 3 1/2 weeks washing dishes in the bathroom, but the new kitchen made it worthwhile. J.C., Doug, Curt and Mark were very good to work with, trying to inconvenience us as little as possible . Doug was a special pleasure, which is good, because he was there just about every day of this project. J.C. seems like a family friend by now. I will certainly use them again. J.C.'s pricing is very reasonable, in spite of the EPA, he listens to the homeowner, resolves problems creatively and has a great bunch of associates.
Description of Work: Gutted kitchen, replacing wall between kitchen and dining room with stub wall and moving water heater to its own exterior closet (which his crew built), installed drywall on all exterior walls, relocated plumbing, created laundry closet, installed new flooring in kitchen and dining room, installed new appliances, lights, sink, crown molding, baseboard, glass tile backsplash, did minor electrical repair as necessary, textured and painted, replaced yucky garden window with beautiful casement window and replaced hardware on exterior door.
We had a hard time finding a contractor because none of our friends had good experiences in the past. We found J.C. online and he promptly arrived the next day to review the damage and work up a quote. He got the quote to us the following day and provided quite a few references on his website. He was very courteous and seemed knowledgeable about the job. His quote was very reasonable and his no nonsense approach was refreshing. He came when he said he was going to come, did what he said he was going to do, and finished in a timely manner. He did 98% of the work himself ( a real "jack of all trades") and the days that he had other guys come he was here to manage the work and make sure everything was done correctly. We were so thankful to find someone honest and knowledgeable about what needed to be done and were very happy with his work. We actually have him here again now painting the outside of our house.
Description of Work: During the freeze in February a pipe burst in our garage apartment. Water ran all day and ruined the bathroom, sheet rock in half of the upstairs and downstairs. J.C. removed the damaged sheet rock, insulation, and everything down to the studs. He replaced all sheet rock and insulation. He also replaced the shower in the bathroom, put in a new vanity, light fixtures, faucets, etc. He laid flooring in the apartment and put OSB on the walls in the garage. He painted the ceiling of the garage, and all of the upstairs apartment. He also did extensive plumbing repairs and added a valve to shut off water just to the garage and a drain so that we could drain the water from the pipes. During the repair he removed both garage doors and reinstalled them adding a new garage door opener.

JC's crew came Saturday morning, worked until dark and returned Monday morning to complete the job, covering the house and detached garage with Atlas Landmark Slate shingles. The crew worked quickly and seemed to enjoy working with each other. When they cleaned up, we couldn't even tell they had been here, and the roof looks great. In fact, it looks more like it did when I moved in--sort of a cottage look. JC makes good suggestions, is friendly, professional, shows up on time and calls when he's on his way or can't make it. I look forward to using him for additional projects and handyman jobs. It is also comforting that he is licensed.
Description of Work: After getting bids from two other roofing sources, I settled on JC Hill of Breason Inc. We discussed several projects, but replacing my roof with Class 4 shingles was my first priority, so that's what we did. Our house was built around 1946, is about 1250 sf, plus a detached single garage, and the roof has a pretty steep pitch (about 10, I think). JC worked with me on color and selecting the right shingle to meet State Farm's requirements.
