They came in this house and did the check and we added some extra insulation. They did that for me here. They get an A; they're good. They were on time, price was reasonable, and they certainly worked hard. They did a really good job. It took a day for the work to be completed.

They're excellent. We've used them for years. We had a part that burned out in our air conditioner and they came out and fixed it. There was no charge because we have a contract with them. The majority of their employees do a great job. They're a good company. They're a big company so it seems like it's easier for them to get someone out there. They'll get there that day. We've never really had to wait for them that I can recall.

The Tom's technicians found parts that needed to be replaced. The parts were ordered and installed, but it became obvious that there was a more serious problem with the motor. Because of the estimated cost to replace the motor, we elected instead to purchase a totally new unit. Within an amazingly short time, the new unit was delivered and installed by technicians who were friendly, genuine and efficient. We have used both Tom's Mechanical and Tom's Plumbing in the past and have always been pleased.
Description of Work: We initially called for repairs to our garden room's heating and A/C unit.

It's a contract for every year, I think this year it's about $225. They have a really good service. They've done work for us before in addition to our checkups and they give us a discount since we're contract members, but it kind of works expensive. The techs are very professional and friendly and they will spend time and let you know what is going on with your system.

Everything went according to plan, the install team was professional and were very mindful of keeping the work area clean and safe. My job took about four days to complete and the installers were on time every day and always courteous. I've had the system for about a year now, and have saved a LOT of money! I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! Arrived home today and learned my spouse had Tom's Mechanical work on an A/C unit. The repairman was on time and diagnosed the issue as a small bug in the contactor, which he simply cleaned and re-installed. The repairmen then up-sold her on a surge protectors for both our two-stage units. Total bill came to $547 for roughly 30 minutes of labor and two surge protectors that cost approximately, $100 combined. The repairman failed to mention, until presenting the bill, that to install the surge protector on the second unit, he would have to charge a second $76 diagnostic fee. I understand the cost to run a business and make a profit, but this isn't right. All fees should have been disclosed prior to service being performed. We've used Tom's once before and didn't have this issue, but question if we'll ever use them again.

Tom's Mechanical knocked it out of the park. Their tech tested the unit, quickly identified the problem, worked with the home office to identify that the part (capacitor) was under warranty (also gave the date for the warranty expiration for the whole unit...which he wrote, in pen inside the unit along with other info..for future reference). He firmly recommended that more was not needed and this would solve the problem. The office scheduled the appointment in a timely manner. The technician showed up on time. The technician was friendly, communicated specifically the results of his triage and test, demonstrating thorough review, and did it in a very understandable way. Professional, friendly, and competent. We had another "top" AC Service/Repair company come out (also listed as top on Angie's list) and recommended replacement of the unit. This company did not identify any warranty, nor provide the due diligence of isolating the fault and making it clear that the capacitor was the only problem and easily solved. It was easy to book this appointment and technician showed up as scheduled. However, the price point to replace the unit, prompted us to get a second opinion - VERY GLAD WE DID and that we called TOM's MECHANICAL.

The air from our central A/C unit started being too warm on Sunday afternoon. We stuck it out through the night and my husband called Tom's first thing Monday morning. They answered immediately and said a tech would be here between 2 and 5pm. The repairman arrived promptly at 2pm. Hubby had run an errand, so I showed the repairman the unit and repeated that we thought it was something with the condenser fan motor. He had me turn the unit on, checked it out and advised me he thought it was the capacitor. I went back inside (hey, it's HOT in Arlington in late June.) In the meantime, hubby arrived home and spoke to him and when he came, inside hubby let me know it was the capacitor. The repair was completed and paid for in less than 30 minutes. (My husband called a different company first, they took his number and said they would have someone call him back, but that company did not call back until around 11am. By that time we had the appointment with Tom's.) We are very satisfied and would use Tom's again

We had Tom's Mechanical out after having another well known company out to check the system. The first company said the system needed to be replaced and didn't offer any other solutions. Charlie quickly diagnosed the issue as a bad capacitor and fixed it quickly. He also checked the coolant level and found it to be a little low so he added that as well. He was very friendly and was appropriately surprised when we told them another company had recommended a whole new unit at a cost of $6,000. We had used Tom's Mechanical once in the past and certainly regret the attempt to stray this time around. This seems to be a solid, reputable company. We will be using them for any issues we have in the future. Highly Recommended!

Scheduling the appointment was easy and they had many available times. The service technician was able to come early that day. Carl was very professional and was willing to investigate the problems we had with one of our AC units. The cost of the services was very reasonable. I would definitely call Tom's again. Ken was the sales rep who came to the house to give me a bid. He was very professional and did a good job discussing options with me. He also looked at an issue with our other AC unit. His bid included having a service technician resolve the issue (which I think had to do with the blower speed). The installation team was very professional and did a good job on the installation. There was a small problem with a pinched wire that required another service tech to come out to replace the wire. The people at Tom's worked with us to have the tech here after we got home from work.
Description of Work: I had to have one of my two AC units replaced (it had a good life of 18 years). Tom's installed a new unit in the attic and a heat pump outside.

I came home yesterday, 10/27/2015, to water damage outside of my a/c unit closet. Water had gotten underneath my wood laminate floor, which, if you know anything about wood laminate, that damage is irreversible. Condensation, which links from the a/c into the main sewage drain was overflowing. Upset, I contacted Tom's Mechanical, believing it was related to the a/c pvc pipe...well, it was not. Still, one of Tom's Mechanic's Lead Technicians came out, conducted a diagnostic, and as he explained the problem (plumbing), the stress of just more issue finally hit me and I could not stop crying. I can normally weather a lot, but laminate flooring is a bear to repair, so all I saw was that not only do I need to submit an insurance claim for the damages, I would also have to call a plumber. Because he human and not made of stone, the Lead Tech was able to blow out the main sewage drain fairly easily and resolved at least this headache. I feel bad because I don't normally breakdown in front of people, but he was very considerate.

I believe it was about three years ago, so don't remember all the details except the following. We have two air conditioning units, one for upstairs and one for downstairs, the originals in this late 1970's house. The upstairs stopped working. The service provider came and said the system was old and we probably needed a new one, but none-the-less he would make the repairs he could but didn't guarantee how long it would last. There weren't any extra chargers to the basic service we paid for. Well, his repairs have seen us through three hot Texas summers and the unit is still working fine. He was honest and competent, so would definitely recommend him to anyone.

I have a home warranty contract on the house. The company that came out through the warranty service wanted to charge me $1900 in additional uncovered expenses. I called Tom's to come out to give me an independent estimate on the work without telling them of the prior estimate. The diagnostician came out on time, was knowledgable and courteous professional. He quoted me a price $400 less than the other company and explained each charge without me even asking. He made sure I understood the work that was to be done and scheduled the work for me. He was an absolute pleasure to work with. The work was done on time and as expected by another professional courteous person. Great experience.

I setup a meeting for a sales call as my 16 year old unit had to have Freon added the last 2 years. The unit was recharged in the spring and I could tell it was not going to make it through the summer as it was already not cooling well. The sales person showed up at a convenient time for me and was on time. The sales guy did not try to up sell me to some really expensive unit. My furnace and fan appeared in good shape so I decided to just replace the condenser unit and evaporator coil. He gave me the option of getting a dual phase compressor (I think that is what it is called), which was about $300 higher. It would not have any benefit with my older furnace / fan unit as it was not variable speed to work with the upgraded condensing unit. However, I could get the condensing unit now and if I had to replace the furnace in the next several years I could upgrade to take advantage of the upgraded condensing unit. For the $300 difference, I said that it sounded good to me and I would have a more efficient setup in the future (more on this story later). The service guys showed up the morning of installation within 30 minutes of the time I was given. They unloaded everything and got to work in the attic on a 100+ degree day. All went well until they were almost done in the attic and one of the workers stepped off the platform and through the ceiling. Fortunately only his foot came through and nobody was hurt. However, it did leave about a 2' x 3' hole in my ceiling. They did patch the sheetrock hole and cut insulation board to cover the hole in the attic. The sales guy called promptly and told me the service guy had called him. The sales guy setup a contractor to call me to fix the ceiling. They came out a couple days later and fixed the sheetrock. The contractor that was used did a good job repairing the ceiling and cleaning up. They were going to come back the next day to paint, but I told them I would take care of it as I already had matching paint. Although some people would ding the company for causing a hole in the ceiling, I feel accidents happen and I actually give the company credit for fixing the issue quickly without me having to hassle them. Now for the only complaint which caused the "B" for quality. When the guys got ready to install the condenser outside, the guy said something about it being the wrong one. They double checked part numbers to make sure they had the correct unit and it was what was on the service order. After a discussion with the sales guy, they determined the model of the unit the sales guy sold me didn't actually have a dual phase compressor. The option had been changed to only be on the next model up. They said they would see about getting me the next higher model, but it was now 100+ degrees outside and I wanted AC. It turned out the model they shipped was the right price for that model, but it was just not the dual phase. However, I told the sales guy I would keep the delivered unit as that is what I originally requested before he brought up the different condensing unit. However, I wanted the $300 back that I thought I was paying to get the different compressor. He agreed to the price discount and the service guys continued the install. I know models change on all products, but I would expect the sales guy to actually stay on top of these changes. In the end, I got the type unit I was originally requesting so I am okay with it, but I was just a little annoyed at the time. It took longer for the installation than originally mentioned, but it was really hot so the service guys deserve a break on that part. One last thing to note, the sales guy had mentioned to me that whoever originally installed the unit in the house did not do the plenum correctly. As part of the work, they reworked the plenum. The fan was not changed with this installation, but I can tell the amount of airflow from the duct works has greatly increased. Overall, I have used Tom's multiple times and would not hesitate to use them again. I don't believe they are the cheapest company out there but I have never had a service tech out that didn't seem to know what they were doing. Also, I have never had them doing the pressure selling or trying to up sell to things I don't think I need.
